Hound of Hades #5
Hell Bent
When humans start showing up dead after visiting Manhattan’s hottest new club, Mal’s mission seems simple enough: find whatever supernatural critter is responsible, and show them the consequences of intruding on Hades’s territory. Mal isn’t complaining—between moving in with Bastian and dealing with the fallout of Melinoë’s attack, she could use an easy job.
But the more she investigates, the less simple it becomes... because someone wanted Mal to find out about these deaths. Someone with the power to command creatures that even the gods fear. Someone with a plan that could tear apart the divine and mortal realms alike—a plan that is missing only its final piece: Mal herself.
Mal would never betray Hades. At least that’s what she always thought. But everyone has their price... and somebody may have found hers.

My subjective rating and review standards aren’t likely to be useful to other readers--how would it help anyone else to see that I rated a book 5 stars because I read it at the exact right time in my life, or 2 stars because it used a popular trope I dislike?--and I’m not comfortable with the idea of readers and even authors taking them as objective measurements, or worse, constructive criticism. I now track my reading privately, but send out monthly book recommendations through my mailing list at https://www.zoecannon.com/newsletter. My old ratings and reviews are still here, but don’t take them as anything other than personal reactions. I may not see messages and friend requests. **
Zoe Cannon may or may not be a supervillain out to conquer the world through writing. When not writing, she can be found perfecting her schemes for world domination, plotting against her archenemies, and staying up too late reading a book. Her secret lair is rumored to be located somewhere in southern New Hampshire.

I absolutely love the concept of this series and Hell Bent Book #5 is another fantastic addition!!
The story is engaging and has plenty of twists and turns I couldn’t see coming. As always I love the MC Mal she is fierce strong and despite her denial she loves the small group of people in her life and the evolution is fascinating.
Lissa is a Guardian of Hades his priestess normally a God would have multiple but without ruining anything for you things get dire and she is the only one left making her stronger then even she realizes. She is shy and awkward at the beginning of the series and very uncomfortable with the outside world. She has moments of great strength and self confidence as she bears the mantle of high priestess and as a person in the outside world she grows in self confidence as well a bit more slowly because it is outside her comfort zone but she does. She has complete faith in Mal and learns to be brave despite her reservations.
Sebastian is a complicated character with his own agendas. You can never tell what he is going to do next but one thing has become clear he will put Mal first when it comes down to it. I really enjoy the slow burn between Sebastian and Mal it feels natural given her reticense to form relationships. I love that despite her belief she doesn't care about anyone she clearly does.
Absolutely love the story arc of this series. The characters continue to evolve and never cease to surprise me. Mal our MC never ceases to try to find a way to preserve all sides as she continues to walk the line of a devoted Marked of Hades and unwitting friend and ally to those that need her.
If you haven't read this series... Get it! Binge it and find an awesome new Author 😎
I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen to Mal, Sebastian the rest of the gang and you will love this book... I received this book as an ARC from the author for an honest review.
