If you’re not used to history and archaeology, this book will push you. It has a great amount of story. It is quite well-done and helpful in the study of Daniel, Ezra-Nehemiah, Esther, and peripherally other biblical books.

This is a readable survey with lots of obscure information related to the Persian Empire and the Hebrew Bible. It provides a readable resource for the historical background for a critical timeframe in Jewish history. The numerous maps, illustrations, extensive indexes, and bibliography add to its usefulness to the biblical scholar.
