A collection of short stories gathered from the far reaches of the Space Team Universe. Some of these stories have been available elsewhere over the past few months, while others are new for this collection. The spectacular tales of space adventure you'll find within its pages are:
"Dead Men Don't Get Paid" Undead detective, Dan Deadman, has a problem. He has a number of them, in fact. He's missing an arm. He needs money to repair his broken window. Someone has opened a portal to the hell-like Malwhere in a nightclub, filling the place with slavering flesh-eating monsters. Fortunately, Dan's diminutive house guest, Artur, has a plan to help him fix at least one of these problems, but like everything else in Dan's afterlife, nothing quite works out the way it should. A brand new Dan Deadman Space Detective adventure, set in the aftermath of "Dial D for Deadman".
Space Team: The Holiday Special Die Hard meets The Nativity in Space! It's Space Christmas Eve, and all through the space station not a creature was stirring except a load of evil space pirates who're trying to kidnap a very special newborn baby so it can be eaten by their pirate king. They hadn't counted on Cal Carver and the Space Team, though, who happen to be on the station for some much needed R & R. Originally published in December 2016 as a standalone short story.
The Last Bounty Once the baddest bounty hunter in the galaxy, all Konto Garr wants these days is a quiet family life with the woman he loves, and the respect of Deenia, the step-daughter who hates his guts. But when Deenia is taken hostage, Konto must employ all his skills to mount a death-defying rescue mission. With a terrorist-filled station between him and the hostages, and an infuriatingly upbeat boy from Deenia’s class for company, Konto's talents will be stretched to their limit as he goes after the most important bounty of his life—his daughter. Originally published as part of the comedy scifi anthology, "Pew Pew - Sex, Guns, Spaceships... Oh My!"
Death Comes to Carverville - A Tobey Maguire Mystery Former Hollywood actor, Tobey Maguire, now spends his days as an imaginary construct inside the subconscious of Space Team's Cal Carver, only ever called upon when Cal is knocked unconscious. But when a murderer starts to stalk the corridors of Cal's mind, Tobey Maguire - accompanied by a wise-cracking racist squirrel only he can see or hear - must turn detective and unmask the killer before the imaginary inhabitants of Cal's head are picked off one by one, leaving Cal completely brain dead. The first ever solo Tobey Maguire adventure, written just for this collection.
Nun Shall Pass Former Nun, Ronda Sallas, is on a mission to save her son, Narp, from himself. And also from some evil Xandrie gangsters who have tricked him into helping them steal a weapon of mass destruction. Mostly from them, actually. Fortunately, Ronda's time at the convent has left her more than capable to deal with a few dozen gangsters, but when an Anti-Nun strips her of her precognition powers, things suddenly become more difficult. First published in "The Expanding Universe - Volume 2" anthology.
Splurt Home Alone An all-new short solo adventure starring everyone's favorite adorable green blob, Splurt.

A collection of short (totally fonking bizarre) stories.
All my favorite characters are here, even Toby McGuire who gets his own story. I hope Miz doesn't find out. I can't imagine Lauren or Mech would be thrilled either. Splurt will be cool with it cause that's just the kind of guy/thing he is. Of course you've got to read this collection, or you have to admit I'm the bigger fan..neener neener neener!!!
I really enjoyed this brief journey through the Space Team universe. It was really fun to learn more about Ronda Sallas, to see what Splurt really thinks of his crew mates and, celebrate Kroyshuk with the team.
While I likeed all six stories, my top two were "Dead Men Don't Get Paid" and "Splurt Home Alone". These stories showcased two of my favorite characters, Artur, and Splurt respectively.
An essential part of the space team universe, this collection of shorts fleshes out the other stories that that go un noticed. Children taken hostage, what Toby McGuire gets up to when Cals not around, Space Christmas, it's all there, and more.
It was just as funny and intelligent as the rest of the books, and I had a great time with it. I normally listen to the audio books, and I found Phil Throngs voice in my head while I was reading this ebook. Go get yourself a copy.
Barry is somewhat weird.. (but in a good way) and his stories are also weird, and funny and clever. A science fiction story with Toby Macquire and Morgan Freeman is all of those attributes and more in one of his short stories. It's not "To Kill a Mockingbird" but then what is? If you want fun, interesting science fiction reads, get hooked on Barry's books and you won't be disappointed.
I enjoyed this collection of short stories from the Space Team universe. The Dan Deadman story was great tie-in with the first novel in that series, and the Splurt-focused short story might be the best one of the bunch (although I'm biased because Splurt is one of my favorite characters). Overall, it's definitely worth a read if you're a fan of Barry Hutchison's work.
Really enjoyed these funny short stories, especially hearing more about Konto Garr (that glorious, mysterious bamston), the Tobey Maguire mystery and of course a little more of a look behind the veneer of Cal Carver.
Pro-tip: read while wearing a spacesuit for extra emersion.
Additional pro-tip: Not on public transport. Those suits are too big for rush hour.
A collection of SPACE TEAM short stories that delivers exactly what I was looking for: goofy space humor. The Splurt-Home Alone story, for example, is hilariously macabre as it uses the typical Hutchison device of taking a well known pop story (in this case the movie “Home Alone”) and turns it on its head. I always though little Kevin should end up serving out his childhood in juvie for murder.
A cool collection of space stories in the world of Cal Carver. They're all really good but I especially enjoyed Splurt Home Alone and The Last Bounty. I've read some of them in anthologies etc. but it's nice to have them all in one place to read again.
There are a few repeat stories for those who are already fully read up on Hutchinson. But don’t be FED up with Hutchinson. It’s still worth the read while waiting for a new, true Space Team or Deadman story.
Deadman, last bounty and nun shall pass we're awesome. Couldn't make it through the tobey Maguire story. Maybe it picked up towards the end? Still waiting for bug episode 2.
Fun collection of short stories with not just the Space Team, but some of the supporting characters as well. Where else can you read about Tobey Maguire in what has to be described as a dreamlike world?
I'm only rating this 4 stars because the first two stories were just ok, but the latter stories learning about some of the funniest side characters were epic. Great stuff and I'm glad GA put this into their series!
Collection of short stories from the Space Team universe. All are very good, the last bounty is probably the best and Konto Carr would be good in his own series.
Think Guardians of the Galaxy but funnier. Definitely a respite from reality. If you need to relax and unwind from your life do it in a hammock with a Space Team book.
Mr. Hutchison worries me a bit. His stories are funny but make me wonder what the actual fonk is wrong with him at the same time. All’s well, I’m sure.
Another great book from one of my absolute fav authors. Absolutely loved these short stories and I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with Cal, Deadman and the rest of the gang!!! Pure Gold!
