Hers #3

Hers, Unleashed

Rate this book
Hot. Obedient. And he wants to be hers. What could possibly go wrong?

Silenian security guard Kaitlyn Bennett has won the proverbial lottery. A male hybrid matching all her fantasies has chosen her from thousands of other women. For three months, he will be her personal sex toy—a dream come true made possible by the planet’s new legislation.

Roth is in desperate need of a hideout, and becoming a sex pet on Silenia is the perfect way to disappear. All he has to do is entertain his beautiful human Mistress until his enemies give up the search—and be paid for the pleasure. What could go wrong?

As it turns out, a lot. The Traditionalists on Silenia have had enough of the new order, and Kaitlyn and Roth end up fighting side-by-side against the rising crime. Roth discovers he enjoys his new role, almost as much as he enjoys being the object of Kaitlyn’s desires…

But as Roth’s time on Silenia comes to an end he has to decide which he wants more: his money or the woman of his dreams. And when disaster strikes, is the bond between Kaitlyn and Roth strong enough to save Silenia, or will his secret be the end of them all…?

Note to reader: This is a dystopian science fiction romance featuring action, suspense and steamy love scenes between the main characters. It’s part of a series but can be read as a standalone. If you enjoy hot scifi romance where human women lust after beefy alien males, this might be the book for you!

My name is Anna, I'm an erotic romance author, and my goal in life is never to have another writer's block. I've been in love with action and futuristic stuff from an early age, whether it's in books, movies, or video games. More recently, I also developed a taste for steamy romances. The stories in my head contain these elements in different combinations and I look forward to putting them all on (virtual) paper - for my own amusement, if nothing else. I live in Germany with my husband, my overactive imagination, and pipe dreams of fortune and glory.

HERS, UNLEASHED is the third book in the Hers series and follows on from Hers, Unbroken, with situations arising following actions and situations in that book, so I would definitely recommend you read at least that one first. Of course, my full recommendation would be to read both, but that's because they're both brilliant.

Roth has escaped one prison in exchange for a voluntary one of three months. He knows Selenia has no interest in his past, so if he can just disappear, he'll be fine. His mistress, Kaitlyn, is a Security Office who lives in one of the underground domes, so he figures he'll be even safer. But what happens when convenience turns into something else?

Oh, I do love these books!!! Anna Adler gives you a nicely rounded story with plenty of steamy moments plus action on the streets. Holly and Chase have a small cameo here, which was great to see. Selenia has changed since Book 2, and Kaitlyn hasn't really questioned any of it too deeply. Meeting Roth, and eventually hearing some of his back story, well, it all changed for her and they both realised the world wasn't perfect.

I read this book in one sitting, one sunny afternoon, and I thoroughly enjoyed every single word and scene. I really can't wait to return to Selenia and see what happens next. Absolutely recommended by me.

So, after reading the first 2 books in the series, I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen in this one.

After pet laws are changed on Silenia so that pets have to be consenting, pets have been harder to come by. Kaitlyn has always wanted a pet, mostly because she has a fantasy of sleeping with an alien, but never thought she would be able to get one as the cost was too high for her. With the new laws she applies and is accepted for her own pet alien for 3 months. A dream come true. Roth is just looking for a place to hide out for 3 months and being a sex pet is a great way to disappear. 3 months of entertaining his Mistress and then he can go off and have his own life. However, not everyone on Silenia is accepting these new pet laws so easily and Kaitlyn and Roth end up fighting side-by-side against the rising crime threat. As more time passes, Roth finds he likes his role and his Mistress, but a secret he's been hiding may destroy all he has come to love.

Overall, I enjoyed this story a little bit more than the previous 2. I think that the thing I enjoyed was that it was consensual. The first 2 books made it clear that pets were forced into their roles because society had convinced the masses that "wild" aliens secretly wanted to be tamed and taken care of by them. In this book, the new order has started and aliens/hybrids have to consent to being a pet and it is for a pre-determined amount of time. Contracts are signed and both sides get something out of it.

Kaitlyn was a good character. She understood what the world was and what it is now, she is actually ashamed because she understands what they had before was wrong and is all for the changes. She's a police officer as well so she is very strong and determined to uphold justice and protect all, including pets. Roth has a tragic backstory and is very surprised that this type of world exists. He is hiding a lot from Kaitlyn, which is how the ending comes about.

The chemistry between Kaitlyn and Roth seems more built on a mutual respect for the other and the others abilities. Roth cares about Kaitlyn because he likes that she has a strong sense of justice. Kaitlyn likes Roth for more than his body. These elements elevate the chemistry between the two leads and makes the story a lot more interesting.

I would read more in this series if there ever is more and I would read this series again. It was interesting.

I received a free ARC from the author and I VOLUNTARILY decided to write a review. I do NOT usually accept ARC... but I was SERIOUSLY looking forward to this book!

In a world of cliffhangers... This is a standalone book... BUT HOPEFULLY you have read the other books in this series.(They are sooo good)
ANNA ADLER does NOT disappoint with her latest release.... HERS UNLEASHED...KAILYN & ROTH.. . .What a dynamic duo !!

I love the main character KAITLYN BENNETT... She is NOT some weak female who needs a male to protect her. KAITLYN is a force ALL by herself. She LOVES being on top of things...hint hint :-)

ADLER has created this fascinating planet 'SILENIA'.....where humans ARE in control of this planet...and what EVERY human wants is their very own PET.... These PETS are 'ALIENS' (from other planets)

Of course there's been a revolution, and the laws have drastically changed....to protect the 'PETS'. Let it be known that NOT everyone can have one of the much sought after. .. and coveted rare pets/ALIENS
BUT . . . . . KAITYN HITS THE JACKPOT !!!!

KAILYN meet ROTH...…… Your NEW PET (oh boy). . . ROTH wants to serve and wear KAILYN'S collar & leash. . . whoa!!! ROTH is NO wimp... ROTH is a hybrid alien. He's a little bit of this, and whole lot of that. ROTH is tall, built, fierce to look at, and ready to serve his mistress in every way (whew)

During the day...KAILYN trains ROTH to help fight corruption side by side with her on Silenia. When they get home, she trains ROTH in other areas. . .yep, she does . . . . .(oh yeah)

I love the way ADLER takes you into the mind of her characters, you see the struggle as well as a deeper relationship and respect developing between both characters. . . . .UNFORTUNATELY, ROTH has DARK secrets..... these secrets could very well DESTROY EVERYTHING. . . . (I hate when that happens).

I'm not a big erotica-fan. Some times I find something good, but most times, it doesn't do much for me. I don't read a lot of sci-fi anymore either. It was one of those genres I read because I didn't know any better, but now that I've discovered all the sub-genres out there, I don't read much classic sci-fi anymore.
So this book doesn't fit into my usual preferances, and neither did book 1, but I picked it up right around the time Anna and I started talking on twitter, for I wanted to impress her, and found her story much more interesting than I would ever expect!

Anna writes erotica, it's true, but her books are so much more than smut. They have intriguing multilayered characters, and interesting stories. And the erotica is hot, which is always a bonus! And her writing is good.
I really do enjoy this series, and seeing how the world of Selinia is evolving!

When it comes to Unleashed, however, I have to admit I had some trouble staying interested. It had a lot of interesting stories, but toward the end it felt like a collection of short stories instead of one big story, and so I lost interest in the last 25% or so.
Of course, that's when one of the story-lines got blown open - hirrhirr - and that was great, but I did have some trouble getting there.

And there was surprisingly little smut in this one. It was actually a little fun, waiting and seeing when it would finally happen. It was a gamble, but for me, it worked!

All in all, I consider this the weakest book in the series so far, but far from a bad one.
I'm really curious to see where the world ends up in the future, and I love that we get to check in on characters we already know.

Disclaimer: I recieved an ARC copy from the author and chose to leave this review. I consider Anna a good friend.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 3 in the Hers series, and I would recommend you read Hers, Untamed and Hers, Unbroken before this one. NOT necessary, just a personal recommendation. It will give you a better picture of just how things have changed in the short time between books.

Roth flees his captors, and finds himself in a different kind of cage, one that will keep him out of the spotlight for 3 months. Kaitlyn is a security officer on Silenia, and put in for a new kind of pet, one that has chosen to be a pet for a fixed period of time, and that would be paid for that time. But as Kaitlyn and Roth find out, the new order of things is not going down too well!

Roth has escaped his previous master, but the new one is very easy on the eye. He just needs to keep his head down, and stay hidden for 3 months for the previous master to give up looking for him. Kaitlyn pushes ALL of Roth's buttons, and then some he didn't know he had, so this wasn't gonna be difficult! Roth found that being a pet, even for a short time, was gonna be great!

Kaitlyn was determined to look after her pet, he was Hers for a time, so she would treat as best she knew how. Taking him to work seemed a good idea at the time, but when they find themselves demoted to clinic duty, Kaitlyn and Roth soon realise the New Order is not pleasing everyone and some people are willing to do anything to get things back on track, or at least to line their pockets.

I liked this a lot, not as much as book 2 though! Can't say why either, since both Roth and Kaitlyn have a say here.

It's well told, with some difficult bits, hence the darker tag. Roth suffered somewhat at the hands of his previous master, and not all is told to you. Some things are insinuated, and you have to put the clues together to get the full picture. Not really sure you do get the TOTAL picture though, I think some things are better left unsaid.

Loved the sexy bits! Loved how Kaitlyn took care of Roth, way before he was allowed to touch her.

Loved that Holly and Chase pop up (from book 2)

These are really great, easy, lazy reads and I did read this one in one sitting.

Recommended for those who like their aliens big and bulky, but really with a heart of gold (or maybe diamonds :-0 )

4 good solid stars

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I always feel conflicted after reading Anna Adler's work, and Hers, Unleashed was no exception. The whole infrastructure of treating sentient beings as pets doesn't sit well with me even though they are being treated well. The similarities to slavery and the potential for abuse leaves me feeling skeeved out.

I do understand, however, that for some, this sort of thing is tied into a submissive/dominant fetishism and power dynamic fantasies, and I can respect that. Because this is erotic fiction and not real life, I am willing to look past it and try to enjoy the story for what it is.

I like that the overwhelmingly unethical practices of the world were changed for this installment of the series. It was nice to see change being enacted.

Despite the afore-mentioned misgivings, the book was well-written. It flowed well and I didn't run into any major typos or grammatical errors. The characters were interesting, and the sexual-tension between Roth and Kaitlyn was searing. Overall, I enjoyed the book… but I will caution that it isn't going to appeal to every reader. It's hard to get past the pet system, but if you can, it's a fun read.

Well written and exciting story full of danger, change and steamy romance

This is the first book I've read by this author and I have to say it totally gripped me with it's unexpected story line. I stayed up waaay too late reading it last night ;) The characters were easily relatable and the plot fast moving with plenty of twists, danger, angst and steam. I loved how strong Kaitlyn was, and yet, how compassionate she was. Roth was fab in so many ways - strong, compliant, alpha and just so sexy. I do not blame Kait for falling hard for him! I loved this story so much I just picked up books 1 and 2 so I can have the whole series. All great fun for me and I highly recommend this story to anyone who's looking for an escape into a totally new universe.

I received a free ARC from the author and this is a voluntary, honest review of the book.

Anna Adler's books were the reason I started searching more into the Alien Romance genre. Hers Unleashed is beautifully written and the plot is something I have not read before. It is engaging and gripping. It was so hard to put the book down and I was able to finish it all in only one day!

There's so much to love about this book, from the way the characters interact, to the action, to the romance, to the sizzling passion! It's just such an enjoyable read and I definitely recommend it to people who are into out-of-the-world romance and looking for something new to read.

Another winner from Ms. Adler!

By way of full disclosure, I've read all of Ms. Adler's books and loved them all. That said, this is an excellent addition to the series. One can actually see her writing improving and maturing with each new story.
The relationship between the H and h, Roth and Kaitlyn, takes some time to develop, and Anna builds it beautifully, while bringing us up to speed on the changes in Silenian society. I very much liked the way she built up trust between them until they become true partners, not just pet and owner/mistress.
Great sex, good action scenes, and a wonderful relationship. What more could you want.
Highly recommended.

Loved the story

I really enjoyed both male and female characters. The story had enough twists and turns to keep me entertained. I couldn't put it down. Even the end was a surprise. This is the best (so far).
