New apartments should come with a trial period...

I've just signed a two-year lease on an apartment I can barely afford.
My job hit a brick wall so I need the place to be perfect to help me get my life back on track. But the first night in, and I already know my neighbor isn't going to make it easy on me.

Tall, sexy, irresistible (and did I mention the British accent?), Shane Logan likes his loud activities…a lot. I can hear everything through the paper-thin walls. I'm about to tell him that in not-so-friendly terms when I realize he isn't just sexy, he's also friendly and eager to be of help.
Maybe having a neighbor like him isn't such a bad idea.
I'm a writer in desperate need of inspiration. Shane so happens to turn into mine. With a deadline approaching fast, his offer to do me a favor turns into two and three. Before I know it, he’s forced his way into my life with the tenacity of a whirlwind.

I can deal with the fact that he's far too loud and far too sexy. But when my dog likes him more than me, I start to get a little suspicious. Soon it becomes clear Shane Logan has secrets.
Plunged into the suspicions surrounding my neighbor, suddenly the only thing I can be sure of is that Shane is fiercely determined to hide the truth about himself.

Remember when I said the lease should have come with a warning?
Well, mine should also have come with a big, red, flashing signal.

Christian prodigal daughter story + romance!

I don’t generally like Christian based books and movies. Mostly because they are a bit too preachy and also they always have some moral and many even have some sort of miracle occur. I suppose that isn’t any more far-fetched than your standard romance where a plain jane or curvy girl ends up with a smart, awesome looking billionaire with tight abs and huge hands.

This book did have all of the above but what I had the most problem with was the fact that I didn’t know it was going to be so much about Church, God, Jesus, Praying, and all the Christian talk until I began reading it. I would have liked to know that going in so I wasn’t surprised. I had a feeling there wasn’t going to be a lot of hot steamy intimacy because of the cover, since it is a rom-com cover and they can go either way with the steamy scenes. So it didn’t bother me that it was a romance without any heat. There was still attraction and growing feelings.

I have to say, I really did end up enjoying this book quite a bit. The author did a great job with the world building and the character development and I was laughing out loud through quite a few parts. Especially scenes with the main character Samantha (a.k.a. Sam) and her mother, and Sam and her dog Sammy.

“That’s the problem with my parents. They’re so sweet you can’t help but trust them with your most private stuff, including your social security number and the state of your dating life. And before you know it, they’ll have you registered on Tinder and Jake from the market booth down the street will be offering you free eggplant in exchange for going out with you. Never mind that Jake’s barely eighteen and his idea of a dinner invitation is splitting the bill at McDonald’s.”
“True story.”

The story centered around Samantha and her dog Sammy. Sam needed some independence from her overly loving Christian parents and got an apartment in New York City. Sam had lost her way and wasn’t sure she believed in God anymore. The apartment is small and the walls are very thin and she was told the building was very quiet. However, her neighbor was always making a lot of noise which sounded like he and a girl were having a good time over and over for long periods.

Sam confronts the neighbor and they end up getting to know each other a bit. His name is Shane and he keeps turning up wherever Sam is, or coming over and doing things for her. Sam is a writer and has been procrastinating on her novel for which she got an advance. Shane offers to take Sammy for walks and give her time to write. Shane does some things that seem sketchy and won’t always answer Sam’s questions so she doesn’t know what to make of him and why he is always around.

I won’t go into more detail because I don’t want to give away any more of the story than the blurb. However, I did enjoy the story overall. It was unpredictable in parts, and I didn’t guess what was going on with Shane until it was revealed, so that is always a plus in my book. The mother was hilarious, especially in text messages. So I would give this a solid 4 stars.

I probably would have given it more if I had known what I was getting into before starting the book. However, then I most likely wouldn’t have read it, because I know what my relationship with God is and I don’t like to hear about christianity outside of church. Though that is just me.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Funniest book I've read in a long, long time. It's a romantic suspense read with a great set of characters. Sexy guy, cute dog. Had me laughing on almost every page. I highly recommend it, particularly if you're looking for a feel-good book.

Samantha is trying to make her way in the world, tired of being dependent on her parents she has moved into an apartment and is trying adulting. After submitting a book idea with a publisher she was offered a deal so she needs to get her book written and submitted before the looming deadline.

Samantha is very easily distracted and her attention seeking dog is not helping her focus. Neither is her neighbour who seems to make a lot of noise that sounds suspiciously like the intimate kind. Honestly, sometimes she thinks he is gonna bang his latest conquest right through their paper thin walls. She has seen him a couple of times and he is annoyingly good looking.

Her neighbour seems to enjoy flirting with her, he can see her obvious interest in him and seems to enjoy making her blush. When Sammy, the very cautious and picky dog, blatantly directs her affections towards Shane, Samantha feels a bit of jealous towards the new connection. She wouldn’t mind being wrapped in Shane’s strong arms too.

When Shane offers to take Sammy out for a few walks Samantha reluctantly agrees to trust someone else with her baby. These small pockets of time turn out to be the most productive writing times she has, maybe that approaching deadline will be met. There is definitely attraction building between Shane and Samantha but he is very secretive about his life, whereas she feels like she has been an open book.

When Samantha’s mum decides to play match maker with Shane and Samantha things take a really interesting turn. I have to say I loved all the text messages between Samantha and her mum, freaking hilarious! Things take a serious turn towards the end of this story so we go from light and easy to a bit of a suspenseful moment so there is a bit of everything in this story. This is a romance story but very light on the steam and more focused on the emotions of a relationship that the physical aspects. Overall I enjoyed this story.

This is story written by JC Reed under the pen name Kate Davis as it is a different type of genre than the usual stories from JC.

This book is long on laughs, a sexy man, and an insecure protagonist that has lost her way in life and her faith.  And we can't forget the spoiled pomeranian!

Samantha has decided she wants to strike out on her own, as most adults should do at some point in their lives.  However, she doesn't expect to meet the sexy British guy living next door.  But he appears to have some secrets that he isn't sharing and it leaves Sam and the reader wondering what in the world could Shane be hiding from us?  The answer was not what I was expecting.

I had a love/hate relationship with Samantha.  I admired her for getting out on her own and away from her parents that seemed to hover over her a lot.  We know they care about her, but I think that says a lot about society today and the involvement of parents in their children's lives.  I'm glad that she has a good relationship with them, but there are times when her mom steps over the line.  Maybe some of it needed to be done, but at the same time how will Samantha be held accountable for not getting things done? I enjoyed watching Samantha work through her faith issues and finding out that maybe she hadn't strayed that far from the path.  It was nice that several people in her life, including the Starbucks barista, were Christens and were able to reinforce that positivity.

I found myself chuckling throughout a lot of the book especially when Samantha's mind is going wild with speculation in regards to Shane.  What was going on in his apartment with all the banging?  Who was this blonde that was hanging around him?  So many possibilities and I think her mind went to all of those options.

You will find a lot of bible verses and discussion about faith and God.  If you do not like to read books that include those things, then this isn't the book for you.  But if you enjoy a good rom-com, then pick up this book soon.

We give this book 4 paws up.

This story was nothing like what I was expecting going into the read. Samantha and her Pomeranian (aptly named Sammy) are quite the characters. Samantha herself is quite special and while she annoyed the ever living crap out of me, I found myself liking her by the time it was all said and done. A couple weird things she was thinking didn't quite sit well with me but I think it was part of her learning and for that I'm thinking I'm ok with it.

I would love to see a romcom where the guy isn't so perfect looking while the girl is fretting over how she looks. That instalust is real y'all. But I suppose if my neighbor was a tall, fit British man who was overly polite and yet clearly with secrets, I would probably be intrigued myself.

There are some truly hilarious moments. Particularly with her mom and their text exchanges. All the autocorrects that I completely understand (if you've never told a client to meet you at the coffee shop across from your orifice you'll know what I mean 😉). And Samantha referencing splitting the bill at a McDonald's being a bad date reminded me of one where the guy split a happy meal with me and then proceeded to lose his car in the parking lot.... but I digress.

What I didn't expect was the Chrisitian faith being such a prominent part of this book. As a person who isn't particularly religious myself, I did groan when this first became apparent. However, it's not overdone or so in your face and for that I appreciate its inclusion.

This is a much more fun read than I expected... even in its eye rolling and groan worthy moments. I did have a lot of fun with Samantha, Sammy and Shane.

Neighbors And Favors is a stand-alone novel by Kate Davis. The most important thing a potential reader should know is that Samantha is a Christian and her religion is a big part of the book. If you don't like religious elements in your story this book will probably not be for you. Personally, my problem laid with something much worse.

You see, the book is relatively short, and yet I lost the account of the times I thought that Shane and Samantha were not meant to be together. I kept thinking of them as two grinds that were supposed to work together, but a little obstacle was causing even friction between them and as result these two wouldn't work out.

There were times where I thought that I should drop the book, but for some reason, I kept going. It has some good twists that somehow manage to explain everything that happened previously in the story. I feel like the relationship between Shane and Samantha was underdeveloped and the role of Shane could have easily been taken by any other (single) man who appeared in the book. In the end, the climax of the book was not as satisfactory as I would have liked and I felt like parts of the story were rushed for the shake of a happy ending. Maybe a follow-up novel/novella would have been a good idea.

Neighbors and Favors is the first book by JC Reed’s pen name, Kate Davis. This is the first book I have read by this author and I sure it won’t be my last. The synopsis is awesome so I will make this fast.

Samantha is finding her way. She just moved out of her parents’ house and living in New York City in her very own apartment with her sassy dog, Sammy. Samantha is writing her first book and has a tight deadline, two weeks to turn in her rough draft. A rough draft of a book she has barely started. What isn’t helping is the banging from coming next door. Loud and annoying banging with some grunts mixed in. She isn’t the type to sit around and deal with it so she goes over to meet her neighbor. Turns out he is a sexy Brit who her dog wants to lick. Traitor.

Shane is new to the building as well and ever since he met Sam he wanted to get to know her. She is funny, feisty, and witty. She also has a cute little dog who needs to get out of the apartment so she can work so he offers to do it for her. For some reason she is hot and cold with him. Can he show her that she can trust him?

I enjoyed Shane and Samantha’s story. It’s funny, mysterious, and cute. If you are looking for a story that is sinful and sexy then this isn’t for you but if you want something light and fun you would like it. Like the author said, it has Christian beliefs. Part of Samantha’s journey is finding her faith again.

Quotes:

“Please don’t feign innocence because it comes across as stupidity.”

“Nonsense. Every trend can be broken and replaced with a new one. It’s a matter of creating demand for a product. You only have to believe in it.”

This was such a cute and fun read, something that I think a lot of us need right about now. I’ve been reading quite a few romance books this year and I’m really sad that it took me so long to get into the genre. And I do have to say that romcoms are my favorite sub genre out of all of romance. What can I say? I like to laugh when I read. Plus I’ve always been a sucker for romcom movies.

Now I, like some other reviewers, didn’t realize that this was a religious book until I started to read it. But it worked in this story and while it’s not my most sought after genre I don’t mine reading it every now and then. There was also some mystery thrown into the story revolving around Shane, which is always a plus when regarding tall and handsome characters. You know, to give him some intrigue and depth.

I found the characters really endearing and I was just thoroughly amused with all of their antics. And honestly, I know it’s a good book when I’m laughing out loud repeatedly throughout the story. Overall this was just the light hearted type of read I’ve been needing lately and I think that a lot of people will really enjoy the book!

Shane a sexy Brit. Samantha Uber Christian.

A writer, a Christian, and a woman trying to come up with something worthy to put on paper.

A muse, a dog walker, and a man who may or may not have given him the wrong impression.

Neighbors and favors is a sweet subtle mystery with a gentle touch of romance with a side of Christian values and beliefs. Not what I usually expect from this author but why not take a chance on something new? I enjoyed this read and hope to see more like this!

This was my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.
Sam & Shane’s story had a little bit of everything in it, so many twists and turns and some that really shocked me as I didn’t see it coming.
Then there are the laughs of which there were plenty. Especially Sam’s parents. I loved them to bits but ever so thankful that they were not mine!!!
I will time and time again take my hat off to an author who can write in a certain character - in this case Sammy the dog - and make them an integral part of the story. I think Kate excelled in this.
I would definitely read more from this author in the future.

Samantha is a writer – or at least she is trying to be. She’s picked up a book deal and has been living off the advance, but her writing prowess has dried up with all of the pressure and expectation that came along with the contract. She also has loving Christian parents who are way up in her business. She loves them to death, but she needs space, so she leases an apartment for 2 years. But the next-door neighbor makes quite a lot of noise and she is forced to confront him on his … erm … sexual escapades that aren’t in any way conducive to her sleep schedule. Her confrontation ends up sparking a friendship of sorts and consequently provides her with a dogwalker. Samantha needs time to get her book written and with her attention-hog of a pup, she is less than successful with her writing endeavors. Her sexy, dimpled neighbor is also proving to be her new muse. He’s surrounded in mystery and constantly dodging questions she has for him. As her feelings for him zigzag from one extreme to the next, each interaction seems to find its way into her book – a fact she has no intention of sharing with him. But just when she seems to make a breakthrough with Shane, everything gets stranger than before, even to the point of placing Samantha in danger. Once the shroud of mystery is dropped, the pieces begin to click into place. Through it all, Samantha struggles to find herself and her misplaced faith. If she’s ever going to make it through this aggravating phase of her life, she’s going to have to obtain help from all sources – her irritatingly evasive and sensual neighbor, her overbearing and meddlesome parents, her best friend, and above all, God. But until she learns to lean on others when needed, she continues to drown in worry.

Shane … he’s difficult to explain because he isn’t exactly what he seems. He’s definitely guarding secrets and up until the end, they could be the worst sort imaginable. There is no way to tell if he’s mixed up in some evil plot or simply the nice guy he seems, unwillingly drawn into something he wanted no part of. It could literally be anything! His tendency to elude certain questions don’t help to stack up his redeeming character traits. The only thing you can really count of with Shane is what you can take at face value – and maybe not even that. What he appears to be is a super nice guy who just happens to be gorgeous and have a fantastic British accent. And he might have a rather rambunctious sex life. At least that’s how it sounds. But for some reason he seems to show up everywhere Samantha is. Literally. Everywhere. And only Shane knows why. It’s almost a bit creepy when you think about it. Rather than straight out asking him – which she wouldn’t anyway – Samantha conjures up all sorts of scenarios and writes them into her book. Her feelings are all over the place and his seem to be as well. One minute he’s the attentive neighbor offering assistance and the next he’s closed off and guarded. Does he even like Sam or is it an act of some sort to cover up whatever is really going on in that apartment? And what’s with the blonde who keeps showing up even though he’s adamant that he doesn’t have a girlfriend? One thing is for sure. Don’t count on discovering the truth until Shane is ready to reveal all.

The first thing I would like to draw attention to is the fact that this is a Christian romance. It’s sweet, it’s clean, it’s a little nutty, it’s only slightly preachy, it’s even got a miniscule amount of suspense tossed in. But it is a Christian romance no matter what way you slice it. If I am being honest, I am a bit miffed that this fact wasn’t disclosed up front. I like to know what I am reading prior to getting into it because there is nothing worse than reading a book and wondering what happened to the book you thought you were going to be reading. And you guys! I can’t tell you how many times I have seen a reviewer give books a 1-star review simply because it was inspirational and not classified as such. They didn’t even rate the book on its own merits, just that one piece of information. So, it is a mistake in my opinion for this book not to come out full disclosure. It’s going to tick some readers off for sure. Not that I don’t understand. With that label, it could also keep others from enjoying it that steered clear due only to the Christian tag. But a book is what it is. The pages don’t lie. If you choose to incorporate certain elements, then you’ve got to label it as such. My opinion. As far as the rating, I am all over the place. As a lover of smut, this book didn’t even come close to fulfilling my inner slut – maybe a 2 if I’m feeling generous. As a clean romance, and little to no heat, I would give it a solid 3 because it met the criteria for such. But as a Christian romance, I’d have to give it a 4. It wasn’t over the top, it was quirky, the characters were likeable, but it absolutely lacked the passionate element I crave. Why can’t you have passion and clean romance in a book? You can. This one just didn’t. Then I had to ask myself how I go about rating it. Do I rate it based on my own preferences? No. I would never do that to a book. I may have my preferences, but I read across several genres, so I tend to rate based on where I am reading at. Do I rate based on what this book claims to be even though it is not entirely accurate? Again, I would have to say no because I do not feel that is what this book truly is. Therefore, I am left with rating this book based on what it is in actuality. A Christian Romcom. So that is where my 4-wing rating comes from.

Despite my difficulty mentioned in the above paragraph, I ended up enjoying this book quite a lot. I did not know what the heck was going on and with the endless quirks of Samantha and her parents, I was unsure what would happen next. Samantha is a bit high strung, is an obsessive pet owner, and has an unhealthy addiction with Starbucks. To the point her dog recognizes the name when it is called out. Her parents are always seeking out that perfect guy for her and trying to play matchmaker – so imagine their glee when Shane enters the picture. And her mother cannot text to save her ever-loving life. Not even joking! One autocorrect mishap after another, with the woman none the wiser of her continual mistakes. It is rather hilarious. Yet at some point one must wonder why she never looks at her phone before hitting send. Honestly. As far as Shane’s secretive life, at one point I had conjured all sorts of possible Shane scenarios much like Samantha did throughout the book. Even their Pastor makes a few appearances, which seemed a bit off even after the explanations are given. There is just a lot going on and not much going on. If that even makes any sense. Probably the oddest detail is that Shane isn’t the slightest bit thrown by Samantha’s parents. He thinks they’re great. Although that probably should have been a red flag from the very beginning. She does finally get her book written but it doesn’t turn out as I had expected it would. The ending and epilogue are just a bit far-fetched as far as likelihood and everyone already on board for the direction headed while Samantha remains clueless … until she isn’t. But either way it works out like I knew it would with the HEA delivered with a cute bow. There are a few moments of heavy in the “come to Jesus” department, but it is done in a way that isn’t over the top. Rather, it’s more from a place of love and concern because her parents and Pastor recognize that she is lost so they try to nudge her in the right direction without being forceful. Her relationship with God, after all, is one she must make for herself. A bit contradictory given the meddling habits of her mother, but appropriate for these characters.

Overall, this book was not what I was expecting, but it ended up entertaining me. My biggest complaint, appropriate labels aside, was the fact that Shane is British and Samantha uses British terms on and off. Sure, her mother is British and she is likely used to some of them, but she is very much American without even a hint of her mother’s accent. I would have preferred that Shane stick to the terminology and Samantha’s character refrained from it. It threw me off at times because it would confuse me as to who was speaking when a word such as “bin” was tossed in. Yes, I know what was meant, but I seemed off when Samantha reverted to the vernacular and I only expected it from Shane. I was most engrossed with Samantha’s raging ability to come up with some of the most off the wall scenarios regarding Shane and his intentions toward her dog. The intensity is ramped up when it appears that her dog likes Shane even more than her. But some of the things she comes up with are borderline looney while still quite funny. With writing comes imagination and I find myself wondering if Ms. Davis had a particular inspiration for Samantha’s character. She reminds me of my friend with hypochondriac tendencies except Samantha is all about her own personal disasters. If it could happen, it would happen and if she can think it up then it is a very real possibility. And her parents? Let’s just say I have a bit of experience with some traits they possessed. *wink* If you are the kind of reader who enjoys clean romance and isn’t a huge fan of passionate moments, then this book will be your cup of tea. And as stated several times, this book contains a strong underlying current of religion. If that is not your style, then do this book a favor and steer clear because it is definitely a fair portion of the content. I wish there could have been a bit more passion because it wouldn’t have hurt the book at all. Initially it looked as though there could be, but it disappeared as quickly as it surfaced. For me, I did not mind the break from the smoking hot attraction I am more commonly accustomed to. But for those of you who seek it out and prefer it, you won’t find that here. Not even a little. Not that I am putting this story down in any way … I just want to be perfectly clear so that readers can make a fair assessment as to if this book would be a good fit for their reading pleasure. Having never experienced Ms. Davis’ work before, I am unable to say if this book is typical of her writing style. But the next time I need a break from the hot and heavy, you can bet she’s one I will go to. I also feel that I have a new author I can recommend in Ms. Davis to my friends and family who tend to be of the more delicate reading constitutions. Let’s just say that “smut” is nowhere in their vocabulary. I am glad to have discovered Ms. Davis. While she may not be for everyone, she will be for me on occasion, and several people I am acquainted with.

Neighbors And Favors is a Christian themed romance book. This is my first read of this genre and I was not a big fan. The story of Shane and Samantha was a nice easy read novel. The role her parents play in the novel is probably reflective of what happens in life; however it did not connect with me.This book is a reflection of the Christian lifestyle. It was interesting to see how the book played out.
Blurb
New apartments should come with a trial period...
I've just signed a two-year lease on an apartment I can barely afford.
My job hit a brick wall so I need the place to be perfect to help me get my life back on track. But the first night in, and I already know my neighbor isn't going to make it easy on me.
Tall, sexy, irresistible (and did I mention the British accent?), Shane Logan likes his loud activities...a lot.
Before I know it, he's forced his way into my life with the tenacity of a whirlwind.

Author Note:
Neighbors And Favors is a light, easy, fun, clean rom-com/romantic suspense, and contains some Christian themes because protagonist is a Christian prodigal daughter. A hilarious and relatable summer read that will make you laugh out
loud.

I'm such a sucker for neighbor romances and was super excited about Neighbors and Favors by author Kate Davis, whom also writes as J.C. Reed in her author romance genre. This is very different as stated than her other books and was happy to be introduced to a new to me author.

This was a quirky and fun read, the story follow quirky and pretty much a paranoid hot mess Samantha, who suspects her neighbor is either a womanizer or up to no good and probably a criminal. They meet under some unusual and hilarious circumstances to where her neighbor Shane, becomes her dog walker so that she cant get her muse back to writer her story. From there comes Samantha super fun and hilarious parents who adore their daughter and seems to come in and out of her life and make it all that much more entertaining.

Shane is a big mystery n the story, Samantha is of course thinking all the wrong things about who he is as a person and sadly embarrassing herself half the time. But it makes for some funny moments and great connection between her and Shane.

In the end I did enjoy some laughs and I have to say I loved the heck out of Samantha parents. The romances was almost not really there, so I was a little bummed about that because I was hoping for some more tension filled smoking hot moments. So this was more of a chick lit adventure with the Christian faith to support her journey. I'm not really one to read books that are particularly religious, so I was a little surprised by this as it wasn't hinted when I first started it. However it didn't pull away from the story-line and guided the characters to understand each other and figure out their paths. Overall I had a great time reading about Samantha, her cute dog and her full of life parents.

Neighbors and Favors was a contemporary romance that promised to be funny, sexy, and entertaining. It was one of those quirky contemporaries with a 20-something who just can’t seem to figure things out. She was a hot mess and couldn’t handle the basics of responsibilities and jobs, couldn’t seem to tell her overbearing parents what she was having problems with, and was trying to do it all on her own. In that way, the book reminded me a lot of Confessions of a Shopaholic and I would definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of those kinds of books.

For me, this book tipped WAYYY too far into Christian romance to be my cup of tea. Nowhere in the description or Goodreads does it hint at being that way, but I would definitely place it in that category and did not enjoy it as much as a result.

If Jesus, having a pastor who remains involved in your family and life, allowing the word into your life into order to better cope, and having the lesson of letting God in when things get to be too much are all things that you embrace and value, then this book is perfect for you.

Even though I did not enjoy the lesson and did not enjoy the book much due to that, I felt it was fair to rate this book higher than my true feelings because it’s possible that the author did not realize when reaching out that it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. I think fans of Christian values, fiction, and contemporary romance will definitely enjoy the book and I definitely recommend it to those readers.

Kate Davis is a new to me author, and I must say that this book was a little different than romance books that I typically read, but I did really enjoy it. I feel like Kate did a great job of creating a romance than I feel focused more on the emotional rather than the physical aspects of a relationship. Kate built a world that you want to be a part of, and while the main characters were great, I think the secondary characters are what made this ok even better!

There were parts of the story that were unpredictable and completely unexpected but in a great way! There was some mystery that I wouldn’t have guessed about, but the text messages from Sam’s mother were gold. The one aspect that I wasn’t aware of before diving in was that this book is a little more on the religious side. That wasn’t something I knew about beforehand so it caught me off guard, however I will say that only added to the story. All in all, this was a fun and cute story!

This is the first time I have read a book by Kate Davis. I hadn't realized this was a Christian heavy book. It didn't make it bad but it definitely felt preachy to me at times and of course there was definitely a parable there. That's not to say I disliked this story. Overall, the story was good.

Samantha is struggling in her journey. She is one of the sheep who has lost her flock. And her annoyingly handsome, new neighbor Shane isn't helping matters. Shane ends up helping Samantha along the way but Shane is hiding something. Their attraction seems to be there but the timing is wrong when Shane has to head back to England.

Like i said, overall this story is good. You watch as Samantha slowly finds her way back into the fold. What happens between her and Shane? Well, you have to one-click to find out.

"This was my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book."

This is not my usual read, with that being said it was an unusual ride for me. I mean it was extremely funny and quirky. The characters were all a little neurotic which I liked. The paranoia was through the roof, which made them interesting and funny. The romance was to me sprinkled in, you know like a dash of something special to make the story more interesting.
They danced around the topic of attraction a little to much for me, but I think that was the point the author was trying to get across. Her message was that love would happen and you had to believe in yourself to get the best out of life.
A quirky read to get you thinking.

The story has secrets, praying, more praying, lots of Christian speak, no heat, and heartbreak.

This is Sam and Shane’s story. Sam moved to the city into an apartment next door to a man that seemed to always have something going on. It sounded like he was always having a good time. After finally meeting him they become sort of friends. Only issue is things surrounding Shane seem weird and he shows up wherever she is all the time. Secrets will get revealed but, in the end, will they build something together or will she just go back home?

I’m a fan of the neighbor romance story. This one didn’t do it for me. None of the characters are likable. Even the dog is a jerk, peeing and pooping everywhere because Samantha can’t be bothered to train her. The best friend resells designer clothing for a profit and the employer is ok with that? It sounded shady. The mom is over the top immersed in Samantha’s life. And then you add in all the religious elements. Why do we need paragraphs about the barista’s faith and back story? This book was everything thrown together with a small romance story thrown in there.

**I received a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest voluntary review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by my source.**

So this book wasn't what I thought it was going to be and that's ok. I just had to curb my expectations a little and get to the crux of what it was meant to be.

I've never really read a book that was rooted in Christianity because I fear they can be preachy. But this wasn't like that at all! Clearly our heroine's faith is important to her, but she wasn't pushy about it at all. It's just something that is ingrained in her character profile and drives her motivations.

So knowing how important her faith is, I quickly learned this wasn't the romance I thought it was going to be. I thought the "favour" aspect of the story would be some sexy time hands-on experience by Shane to give her material for her novel but obviously that isn't the case. And the romance is more subtle than I thought it would be.

I almost wouldn't classify this as a romance persay. It's more like the adventures of an aspiring novelist who uses the mystery of the super cute and nice neighbour next door to write her novel.

I enjoyed this story and the direction it went. It was entertaining, and witty. And that dog...I love that dog...One of the best reads I read in the last few years. It was funny. It was light. It has Christian content, mentions Jesus, our savior, and it has suspense and romance. I loved this story and want to buy the paperback for a reread. Kate Davis is a wonderful writer who knows how to keep the reader entertained.

This was a really cute debut book from this author, there were lots of laugh out loud moments and the suspense of finding out what was really up with Shane and what really goes on in his apartment at night and the struggles that Sam goes through to write her novel, which is past its due date (which I imagine many authors struggle with) and then there is Sammy the dog, who has her own moments in this book.

I have two issues with this book, one being that it takes forever for the romance part of the book to happen and it deals a lot with church (not to say I have an issue with church but maybe there should have been a disclaimer at the start of the book as its not everyones cup of tea).

Overall a really cute read

Samantha is a writer with a deadline who's suffering major writer's block.

After moving into a small NYC apartment with her pup, Sammy, she is feeling the stress to meet her contracts advance deadline. Added to her stress is a sexy, noisy nosy neighbor and her deeply religious helicopter parents.

I was excited for this book. The blurb was promising, but we just didn’t connect.

The beginning is slow, with minimal movement within the story and dialogue. At 25% (which is where I gave up,) I felt like we made almost no progress in getting to know the characters or their relationship.

I also think this book is in the wrong category. In that first 25%, the one thing I did learn was about her religion and family's religious background. This book is categorized as a Contemporary Romance and not a Religious Romance, but with so much emphasis on her religious beliefs and that being a factor in the character's behavior and decisions, I think it is not being branded for the right readers. Or it needs an edit to just the beginning with a good dose of caffeine and cut back on all the parents preaching and surprise Pastor visits.

I think the book does have promise for the right reader, but not someone looking for a contemporary romance.

Neighbors and Favors is a cute, quirky read. I enjoy reading Christian-based books, but when you add a comic factor, it just makes it better. Samantha's journey of rediscovering her faith alongside a sexy British neighbor truly makes for a feel-good book.
