Flying in Love was my first Chalon Linton book and I’ll definitely read more. I enjoyed the writing and I liked the hero. The only major issue I had was that the heroine was frustrating as can be.

I was thrilled to learn that one of my favorite Regency authors was writing a contemporary romance since I love both genres. I knew that with the author's background as a military wife, we would get an authentic story with details that really bring depth. I was not disappointed! Paige and Jake are great together, even with their flaws and mistakes, and I loved seeing how they not only fell in love, but overcame obstacles and supported each other. The tone of the book is definitely emotional and I was able to easily connect to the characters. The California setting was so fun since I live in San Diego, and it was easy to picture them in their environment. There are strong themes of insecurity, trust, family dynamics, and having a relationship with God. I loved that there was a faith element to the story that was tastefully done- no heavy preaching, but genuine and sincere. I'm excited for more sweet contemporary romance from this author... as well as her historicals!

I've read and loved Chalon Linton's historical and Regency romances, so I was excited to hear she had a new contemporary romance series coming out. That it was about Air Force pilots made me want to read it even more--my father was retired Air Force and I also served in the Air Force so I may be a little biased. I'm looking forward to reading all the books in this series.

Paige meets Jake when she's definitely not looking to date anyone, having just broken up with her boyfriend after catching him kissing another woman. Isn't that usually when you find a guy--when you're no longer looking for one? They have a memorable first meet when Jake almost runs over her in the parking lot of the grocery store, which leads to a I-really-want-to-apologize-for-almost-running-you-over-dinner a few hours later. These two are so cute and fun together.

I loved how Paige and Jake weren't perfect people or a perfect couple. Everyone has trials in life and Paige and Jake were no exception. I liked that these characters came across as real and imperfect. Just like real people don't always handle the hard times well--neither did they. Jake had something traumatic happen in his family and Paige was learning how to trust after having a cheating boyfriend and learning a healthier way to deal with a sometimes overbearing mother. I liked seeing their relationship grow from friends, to something more, then came a rough patch or two where they had to learn to talk about the hard things and trust each other. Jake's career as an Air Force pilot where he could be gone for weeks at a time with little communication was something Paige had to learn to deal with if she wanted to be with Jake.

This book made me feel all kinds of emotions and there were a couple of times I wanted to shake some sense into a character. I liked the Christian element in the book and thought it was well done. Having faith in God was mentioned several times as the characters were going through difficulties, but it wasn't overdone. I liked that Jake admitted he was struggling with his relationship with God during his family's difficulty.

Flying in Love started off very strong and I loved the final sentences of the novel. Somewhere in between I got frustrated with the repeated broken promises and mixed signals Paige received.

I'm going to start by saying that I didn't read the synopsis for this book before I dove into reading it. I loved this author's previous books in a different genre and thought this cover is gorgeous and I can't wait to see what she's done with this new genre. As I opened the book, there's a preface from the author about writing this story. I read it and was excited to have a little inkling about what this book would be about. I couldn't set it down. Or rather, I didn't want to set it down. I was heading up camping in the mountains when I started reading so I didn't have nonstop time to read it. But I loved when I curled up with it in the evenings and the still of the mountain night.

This story and these characters were fabulous. There are lots of emotions and family ups and downs. I cried a few different times. I laughed. And I most definitely let out some happy contented sighs while reading Jake and Paige's story.

If you've read other books by this author and are up for a genre change, I suggest trying this new book of hers. If you haven't read her books and enjoy contemporary and military stories, this is one for you.

Paige needs time and healing. Not a new relationship. But something about Jake has her slowly putting her guard down. But his work keeps him out of contact for days and sometimes weeks at a time. Which is perfect for Paige right now. There's some hesitancy on both of their parts for a new relationship. But as a reader you can feel the chemistry and connection between these two. I found myself cheering for them and hoping that Jake would call her soon. Or even for Paige to take that chance and reach out to Jake.

And the emotional moments and family moments...I loved them. I loved how both Paige and Jake had to work through their struggles and sorrows. Sometimes they were so focused on one aspect that they couldn't see the hurt they were causing. But the loving people around them (great secondary characters) helped to encourage and open up their perspectives so that they could find healing and understanding. I'm being very vague. Some of what I'm alluding to is the relationship between Paige and Jake. Some of it is between the main characters and their families. I really loved it!

Content: Clean. Some kissing but nothing further. This book deals with some aspects of military life, death, cancer and some talk about letting God help heal you.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

I was ready and willing to spend more time with the characters in Flying in Love. Unfortunately for me, the book came to an end. I'm sure that Chalon Linton has more fantastic books to write, so I guess I'll just have to be content.

This story has amazing characters. I couldn't help but fall in love with Paige and Jake's story. They are incredibly good and imperfect. Paige has trust issues (for a good reason) and Jake comes to save the day by almost running over her in a parking lot. The truth is that on different occasions they save each other. They develop a "balanced" relationship.

Jake is such a great guy. He is the kind of MC that most women hope they meet and fall in love with someday. He has great values and knows how to treat others. From the moment we meet him, it becomes apparent that he is perfect for Paige. I like to think of his as imperfectly perfect. He is so respectful and kind. He is the kind of man that Paige needs in her life.

Paige has a fantastic best friend and roommate. Everyone needs someone who you can sit down with and watch a Jane Austen movie. Mandy is the great support that provides needed but unwanted advice at times. She holds Paige together when it seems as if her world is crumbling.

I also enjoyed the complicated relationship that Paige has with her mom. Mom and daughter relationships can be complex, but I loved how Chalon Linton illustrates how to treat that relationship. I think she added a great perspective.

I honestly can't say enough good things about this book, so I'll just close by saying that you should read it!

I love the cover for this book. I think it is a fantastic representation of what lies inside and it's also pretty.

This book was character driven which was perfect because Paige and Jake are great characters. The conflict was mostly internal as Paige and Jake deal with their own insecurities and doubts. Family relations are a big part of this book as well. It all seemed very normal and realistic. Their feelings and struggles seemed like those anyone and everyone might experience. I liked that. Both characters show growth and change which is satisfying as a reader.

There are no great climactic, heart pounding moments in this book. It all felt very gentle and sweet which was perfect for me this week when I read it. With the world in so much turmoil right now, gentle and sweet feels really good.

Content: Christian fiction (talk of God, praying, believing), kissing, death

This was a new genre for Linton, who usually works with historical romance, and she did an amazing job. I really liked how you immediately identified with Paige. She starts her journey with an epic fail in her life, one most people can relate to on some scale and then decides how to proceed. She finds she compromised in a lot of areas and you are proud of her for finding out and standing up for herself. I really like how she and Jake build a friendship first and how it is not an Insta love situation. Wonderful book!!
PS Please write a book about Oliver!!

I really loved Jake. He was good and honest. However I didn’t really like Paige’s character. I didn’t always like how her thought process worked, or her actions. Especially at the wedding scene where she flirts a little with someone.

But I did like parts of the novel. It was sweet at times, and I really liked the last scene in the book, especially the last few sentences. I also felt emotional at a certain scene.

In Flying in Love, author Chalon Linton captivates readers with a heartwarming contemporary romance filled with heartbreak, loss, and discovering true love. Handsome and charming air force pilot, Captain Jake Summers, quickly captures speech therapist Paige Hall’s heart, despite her initial reluctance to begin a new relationship. The author’s own background of being a military spouse adds authenticity to the story.

Along with the developing romantic relationship in Flying in Love, the novel focuses on Paige’s struggles to trust again after a previous heartbreak and her strained relationship with her overbearing mother. Author Chalon Linton addresses Jake’s struggle to trust in God, especially during his times of pain and suffering, in a realistic and authentic manner. Any woman who has experienced betrayal from a previous significant other will understand and relate to Paige’s insecurities during her new relationship with Jake.

The author shares the message of God’s love and faithfulness and the power of prayer for comfort and peace. Flying in Love is recommended for readers of contemporary romance.

4.5 stars for this fun but poignant Christian Fiction story set in California. The main characters are both well-developed and at times you may be tempted to think one or both is a little shallow, and I think the ultimate reality is that they are just true to life. Everyone goes through insecurity and trials at some point and usually we don’t deal well with those things in the moment. How we respond comes from trial and error, and lots of times we get that wrong and hurt people as a result. I really loved that this is the beginning of an Air Force pilots series, this one being about a C-17 pilot. We all love a good hero in our books and Jake certainly steps up and becomes a grounding force in Paige’s life. This is not so one-sided though, and Paige’s serves a good counter balance, when the unexpected happens and she needs to give back. Plenty of good conflict to keep the story moving and a sweet ending.

I read an early copy - and this is my honest review.

FLYING IN LOVE is a story about learning when to trust your heart, when to forgive, repairing relationships, and trusting in God. Readers will fall in love with these characters as they try to find their happily-ever-after. Definitely recommended to inspirational romance readers.

This story pulls you right in and endears you to Paige, the heroine, when she finds her boyfriend kissing another woman. I also couldn't help loving her roommate and best friend, Mandy, who is a someone any woman would be lucky to be friends with as she offers comfort and steadiness for Paige, but also gives her a few redirects and honesty when Paige needs it. There's Gavin who tries to win Paige back and then Jake who almost literally runs into her. Paige and Jake are also very close to their families who have their own roles to play as their relationship unfolds. I really liked all the different relationships.

This story reminded me so much of all the insecurities and vulnerabilities of dating, especially when what you want to find is love, marriage, and happily-ever-after with someone who makes you better, but also loves you as you are. Paige had a tough time trying to figure out what went wrong with Gavin, if she was ready to open her heart so quickly after her break-up, and if Jake was the one who would be right for her. I could totally relate with that, as I think all of us can at one point or another. I really liked how the romance slowly built and it was very sweet. Jake is definitely easy to swoon over. I loved the references to Top Gun (a movie I grew up watching) as he's a pilot for the Air Force. Some of the slow build was due to Paige's hesitancy as well as Jake's career, but it was also due to them being careful with each other and wanting to do things right. The inspirational element was present, but lightly woven through the story.

I have just a few complaints. One was that the beginning of the story felt a bit rough with the dialogue and interactions with the characters. It seemed to flow better once the story was going a bit more and there was some tension here and there to drive it. There were places that could have used a bit more development as well. The other thing was I wanted a bit more explanation to Jake's reaction at one point and a bit more discussion towards the end in regards to Paige and the changes she would need to make.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was an enjoyable read that was heartfelt, with great characters, a light inspirational message, and a very sweet romance. I'm looking forward to seeing what this author writes next!

As a fan of clean contemporary novels, I was super excited when I received a copy of Chalon Linton's Flying in Love. The premise of the novel already intrigued me and I looked forward to reading it knowing that it also would be a Christian Contemporary novel. What I did not expect was how deeply this novel would get me personally and the powerful way I found my own thoughts, emotions, and those of people I care about reflected back at me. This novel reached a whole new level of feeling for me and I truly enjoyed it!
Paige has had some ups and downs in life and love, particularly as she catches her boyfriend of ten months cheating on her. This story is told from her perspective as she navigates the changes that moment catalysts for her. I love that the author mentions Paige's reliance on God to move forward and her trust in Him that there must be a different path for her. While that path is definitely not easy, I enjoyed how her faith led her forward throughout the story as well as how it allowed her to heal and love better than before.
I really don't want to give away any spoilers, but I do want to mention that Jake's major trial in this book hit close to home for me and the author did such a beautiful job depicting his grief through Paige's understanding. I cried in this book and I haven't had a good cry while reading a novel for a while.
While I found this book deep and moving, it was also full of humorous moments. I particularly loved the shopping cart scene, the best friend Mandy and their Jane Austen quotes and banter, as well as the realness of it all. I think that's what stuck out to me in this book, it felt so real. While a work of fiction, this novel is full of so much heart readers can't help but feel their own life or those of people they know reflected back at them.
I did enjoy how the story ended though my one wish would have been that it might have been just a bit longer. That didn't bother me enough to lower my rating, it evoked too many emotions in me to be anything less than a five-star rating in my opinion. This book is the start of a new Air Force romance series so maybe (fingers crossed) we will see more of Paige and Jake later on. I am looking forward to more Christian Contemporary novels in this series. I highly recommend Flying in Love!

Flying In Love is one of the sweetest, most sincere, most tender romances I've read in a long time. Skillfully penned, the layered characters take up residence firmly in your heart, and watching these two broken-but-delightful people fall in love will leave that same heart sighing happily. I alternated between grinning and brushing away a few tears ... but mostly grinning. Highly recommended!

Danger Zone

A meet cute that makes me laugh is the perfect way to set the tone for a wonderful story. Paige has been burned recently by a relationship and has no desire to jump into another one, but really...who could resist persistent and sweet Air Force pilot Jake?

This charming tale is driven by fantastic characters, who each have inner demons to battle, while forging ahead down the path to true love, and I just couldn't get enough. Everyone has weaknesses and challenges in life and I love reading about someone else's--going through them myself isn't as fun, hah!

One aspect to this book that I really enjoyed was the relationships with mothers. The dynamic between Paige and her mother was relatable and realistic and I loved how Paige grew and realized some pretty profound things. Jake's relationship with his mom was so tender and heart tugging, and isn't it true that to see how a man will treat you, watch how he treats his mother?

As a child of the '80s, I loved the Top Gun references and kept picturing different scenes from the movie (and characters, too) as I devoured this book. Air Force life sounds difficult, yet rewarding, and this book really brought out the realities of that life.

Why just 4 stars? With as much as I loved this story, it just ended. Ended! I wanted more from this delightfully charming love story.

Content: mild romance; mild Christian elements; mild triggers (death of a loved one)

I loved how Paige and Jake met, it was so fun and that scene is emblazoned in my mind! Legendary first time meeting! What I loved most about Flying in Love was the reality of it. Life is not simple and love is not simple. Both take work and effort but when you accomplish that, the results are beautiful. I thought this book would be all about Paige and her journey, but what is beautiful about it is that it's also about Jake's journey. This emotional and gripping story of real-life issues and love captivated my attention and kept me up for a late night until I finished the very last page! Flying in love is contemporary christian fiction at its best! I received a copy of this book for free, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

What a fun story! This was a contemporary romance about a teacher who just broke up with her boyfriend and a military pilot. They were really suited for each other and strived for a healthy relationship - which I was grateful for. There were a few scenes where the writing wasn't the same as the rest, which was weird, but it was overall written quite well.

Thanks to the publisher for providing the book via NetGalley!

Paige drew me in right from the beginning. We’re right there with her, experiencing the gut wrenching realization that her guy is a lousy guy. Right there as she mourns the relationship and comes to realize who she’s allowed herself to become in the relationship, as she learns what kind of person she’s allowed herself to become in ALL of her relationships.

And then along comes Jake, taking her by surprise just as she’s figuring out how to make some much needed changes. And it’s not perfect. Paige and Jake make mistakes and have misunderstandings and plenty. And then, somehow, everything comes together as they learn to balance the scales.

Okay, okay, I hate retelling reviews too. But this was just such a good character-driven story I can’t seem to help it. I really enjoyed this story and am glad my request via NetGalley was approved! This review is happily given all of my own accord.

Going against her typical historical fiction, author Chalon Linton has written an endearing and sweet contemporary romance that readers will enjoy. Linton has written a love story dealing with hurt, betrayal, and new beginnings. It’s about finding love when least expected and the couple overcoming the obstacles put in their path, including various family dynamics, as well as the military. This is an authentic romance story that readers will easily connect with. Although a bit predictable at times, this is a cute story that readers will appreciate.

I wanted a man who would love me wholly; I also wanted a partner whose faith matched my own. Someone who would open my door, hold my hand, pull me into a hug just because. Someone who wanted to share his life with me.~Paige

As someone who has been through what Paige went through—an unexpected breakup of a long term relationship through no fault of her own—I could totally relate to her. All the emotions, the feeling of betrayal, the questioning of “what went wrong” & “could I have fixed it”, the “why couldn't I keep him”, and the feeling of never wanting to trust a man again sort of things that cause some pretty deep hurts and a bruised heart. Also the lesson of what I call “rebound romance” that rarely ever works out and just adds to the fuel of hurt. For Paige, she quite accidentally meets Captain Jake Summers, an air force pilot and one man who could literally shake her world upside down. Except she's not ready to go there again, if ever! But then he begins to dig under the armor she's put up with his boyish charm & genuineness. Will she allow her heart to be healed or will she close herself off to the one man who could be her “Mr. Forever”?

This isn’t what I call a fluffy romance; it's filled with real life situations that any newly formed relationship can go through and can either destroy, or make it stronger. Linton throws both Paige & Jake in the fire pretty early on and I looked forward to how they handled each one as it came up. I rooted for their love to grow in spite of hard things that came their way. I felt they both handled things in a mature manner & learned to be honest with each other. I also loved when Paige shared with Jake how her strong faith in God had helped through some deep valleys in her life. I also liked seeing her relationship with her family develop and how that played a major role in changing her heart. It was fun to watch all things play out from the sidelines! The only thing I wished was different, what was Jake's faith like? The author didn't make it clear, though we have a few hints he believes in God. I just wanted to know for certain where he stood since Paige said she really wanted a partner whose faith matched her own. That's just my take & probably wouldn't bother some other readers as much.

Anyone who loves contemporary romance with an inspirational thread would enjoy this one. It's not too long or overbearing and has just the right amount of pacing for the romance. I really enjoyed getting to know Paige because of how much I related to her in my own life. I'll be looking for more books by Chalon; her writing is fantastic in my opinion!

Paige Hall’s world comes crashing down when she finds her boyfriend kissing another woman. She thought Gavin might be her forever, but now she’s left with a broken heart and a determination not to get hurt again.
And then she meets Captain Jake Summers, an Air Force pilot who’s kind, hardworking, and just about everything else Paige is looking for in a man. But as they start dating and getting to know each other, Paige finds herself afraid to fall in love, especially with all the challenges life is throwing their way. Will Paige find the courage to love again or will she let Jake fly out of her life, possibly taking her heart with him?
If you enjoy clean, Christian romance, then Flying in Love is the perfect book for you. It’s a sweet, easy read that’s perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. I enjoyed reading about Paige and watching her grapple with her mother and her relationship with Jake. I quite like Linton’s historical romances, but I have say that this contemporary novel might be my favorite book by her yet.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

There are so many great things to love about Chalon Linton's new book, Flying in Love. As a military wife herself, this story hits some really great beats in the emotions of what it means to serve.

Paige Hall gets her heart broken when she catches her boyfriend cheating. She is trying to heal when she meets Captain Jake Summers. He seems almost too good to be true. He's great with children, loves to laugh, and has charm to spare, but Paige takes a chance. She is careful with her feelings and their love story has quite a few twists and turns to it that will keep readers up late to see if they get their happily-ever-after.

The author does a great job in weaving in military life and how transitory it can feel sometimes. Paige and Jake deal with some difficult issues both personally and professionally. The only drawback to the book were the times that Jake treats Paige horribly in front of family and colleagues without a good reason, but then he apologizes in private and she forgives him. I wish that cycle hadn't been introduced because that could be a red flag in many relationships. It sort of took the shine off his hero status for me a bit. Other than that, however, I thought the setting was well-done, the family relationships complicated and realistic, and Paige was very relatable. I'll definitely be looking for the next book from this author.

This is such a fun, light, easy read! I enjoyed it immensely. I had a difficult time putting it down (I finished it in one day!) Paige is a young teacher who has been burned by her ex and not looking for a serious relationship, quite literally gets practically run over by handsome Jake, an Airforce pilot. The two slowly get to know each other, eventually find love, and then learn to build trust and faith when that love is tested. I highly recommend this book!

Certainly different than what I'm used to from this author but I enjoyed it overall. Especially the military aspect of it. I think she's done a fabulous job going from Regency to Contemporary without missing a beat of course!
I've been to California and I've enjoyed visiting it again from Paige's perspective.

When Paige Hall catches her boyfriend cheating on her, she decides she is done with the dating scene. This all changes for Paige when she almost literally has a run-in with Captain Jake Summers while at the grocery store. Jake and Paige click right from the start but with his crazy career and her insecurities left over from her last relationship they hit multiple roadblocks to their HEA.

I fell in love with characters right from the start. From Paige's obsession with all things Jane Austen, to Jake's respect and love for the women in his life there wasn't a single character that I didn't identify with at some point in the story. There are some stories that strike you in the heart and stary with you, and this is one of those.

Chalon Linton has a powerful way of connecting real emotion to her stories. There were many times while reading that I had to sit the book down and just feel the emotions that a scene provoked in me. Paige learning to trust after a heartbreak, her learning to grow to appreciate and understand her mother more. Jake's dedication to his job and his family. These were all so relatable to me that I can't wait to read what Chalon writes next!

I truly loved this book. I could relate so well to the main character as she was a teacher, she'd had her heart broken, and was very wary about giving her heart away again. Paige's insecurities felt so real to me. Readers will feel her vulnerability deeply as she meets a new man who could steal her heart away. Paige was a great character and felt very realistic. She is smart, kind, and a great person. When she meets the handsome pilot Jake Summers, you could feel how hesitant she was to fall in love again. Jake at first seems the perfect man in so many ways. There were a few things that happened that were out of his hands that built conflict between the two characters. Oh, there are things that'll bring out strong emotions in readers. I know I was brought to tears several times and angsty moments are also included. This sweet, clean romance has some moments that bring the sparks out as the romance builds.

This Christian romance explores themes of trusting in God, showing faith, being loyal, and communicating honestly with those you love. Being able to open your heart and take risks is also developed in the plot. I'm excited about this series to learn more about military life. I know there are many sacrifices made by spouses and families. Flying in Love is a great addition to my list of "must-read books" for Summer 2020.
