Patricia Hegarty began working in children's publishing more years ago than she cares to remember and is now Editorial Director at Caterpillar Books and Little Tiger Kids. As an author, the range of subjects has been wide-ranging—pirates, princesses, trees, and bees have all become firm favorites.
A charming book that children will find hysterical. The beautiful illustrations in this book depict the story with warmth and humour. Along with the wonderful humour, told in fun, childish rhyming language, this story also carries some important messages and discussion points about personal space and respect and can be a useful, gentle way of approaching this topic with younger children. Bug is not trying to irritate Bear, he just wants to be his friend and live in his snuggly warm fur. However, Bear is not happy with this and the book deals beautifully with setting boundaries and finds an alternative solution for the Bug which leads to all of the characters being happy. The text in the book is written in a fun, childish font which depicts the characters. It is however, written with a random mixture of upper case and lower case letters which could be confusing for young children so this may be an area to apply some consideration to before using the book. This book is suitable for EYFS and KS1.
Bug Bear is a book which is strongly aimed at younger children (Reception or Year 1 ages). This fun loving book has a creative take on introducing early teaching of personal, social and emotional learning (PSE), where the bug in the story is looking for a new home; he seeks the sink/fur of the bear. However, the bear does not like this and in turn gets very annoyed and upset about it, until a wise owl comes to help. The book uses fun, loving and childish rhyming language to tell its story alongside its bright, colourful and very exciting illustrations.
Good book for bug storytime. Might be too wordy for toddlers. There's a bug, a bear, an owl, and a sloth. The bug is "bugging" the bear and the wise old owl comes up with a solution. The bug can "bug" the sloth. He doesn't mind at all. If I'm not able to read the book it would still work great as part of my bug book display.
Fun writing and illustrations in this book but I don't like the resolution. I feel that it doesn't portray a great moral. It teaches that if we just go to someone and complain our problems will just go away. Picture Book
cute little rhyming story. I enjoyed doing the voices of all the characters while doing a read-aloud. the illustrations are simple and appealing to tots. I didn't care too much for the ending though... feels like they took advantage of the sloth.
A bug wants to take up residence on a bear but he bear is having none of it. So cute and funny and the pictures are simple and clear. loved the other animals too. toddler and up.
Totally cute, but I found that I stumbled on the rhythm of this rhyming book a LOT. That was frustrating. A few more editorial passes and this would have been a great book. The art is adorable.
