It was only supposed to be a fling...

Emma

After my divorce, I was a hot mess. One night after catering a wedding, I ended up escaping reality for a little while with a hot Marine.

Six months later, I discover the EOD tech I'd been emailing for a work project is the same Marine from the wedding. And we'll be working together over the next couple of weeks.

Awkward.

Vince in real life is even more irresistible than the sexy stranger at the wedding.

Too bad it won't work. I have a rule: Don't date men in the military.

For good reason. Actually, two very big ones.

But maybe we can be friends with benefits?

Vince

After a few weeks of training, I'll be on leave — finally home in Newport for the holidays.

When I discover that I'll be spending time with Emma, the caterer from my brother's wedding, I'm intrigued. The one thing I can't resist is a puzzle and her behavior puzzles me.

But when someone breaks into her apartment, my interest grows into more than just a game. I want to protect her. I need to make sure she's safe.

I'm only in town for a short time, and she wants nothing to do with the military.

Can we make something work without it blowing up in our faces, leaving us both as casualties in the explosion?

It all started with a cupcake catastrophe. Vince saved Emma from boisterous children while she was carrying a tray of cupcakes. They hook up the night of Vince’s brother’s wedding. Emma has a wonderful night and sneaks out the next morning leaving no note or phone number.
Vince is a marine staff sergeant. He works with EOD’s (Explosive Ordnance Disposal). As best man for his brother he meets a hot woman and they hook up. She leaves the next morning and he has no way to contact her.
Moving forward six months and Vince is back in his hometown of Newport, Rhode Island. He is participating in some training at the Naval War College. He has been corresponding with a coordinator at the college and setting up some lectures at local schools. He has been texting and writing to Emma for a few weeks. He would love to see Emma again but with his work and career as a Marine it can’t be serious. He lost a good friend to an IED.
Emma comes from a Military family. Her father led a double life cheating on her mother. Emma joined the Navy and got married. Her husband cheated on her and got the other woman pregnant. There are trust issues and military men are not for her.
These two could be more perfect for each other yet they both have issues. Their chemistry is off the charts but can they work things out? Can these two wounded warriors heal each other?
I love books where the settings and characters come alive. You feel like you know them and the richness of the descriptions gives you great imagery. This is what you get with a Lisa Carlisle book. I feel like I could go to Newport, Rhode Island. I would love to see the Naval War College. I so want a tour of the Breakers, an architectural masterpiece built by the Vanderbilt’s. When she describes walking on the beach you can almost smell the salty ocean air.
This was a good book. I enjoyed it.

As a veteran and a military wife for 18 years, this book really resonated with me.

This is the story of Vince and Emma.

Emma, like me, was a veteran and a military wife.  Unfortunately, her marriage was not a good one.  Her first marriage was a very real downside of many military marriages.  It has left her with some understandably huge trust issues and her mantra of never dating a military man again.

Vince is the middle brother of the DeMarchis family.  He is a career Marine.  His job working with explosives, and losing members of his team has made him not want any type of long term, meaningful relationships.

Emma and Vince have an explosively steamy one night stand, and Emma runs after the fact.  Fast forward six months later and they are both in each other's orbit again.  The attraction flies and the more they spend time together, the more their relationship grows beyond the physical.

I could empathize with both Emma and Vince.  Ms. Carlise is able to accurately tell a believable story.  Feelings are relatable and real and that's coming from someone who has experiences like both of her characters!

Emma and Vince

The one-nighter she never does couldn't be the man she's assigned to work with. But, he is. The gorgeous, hot, funny--military man. No way. He's delighted. She, not so much. It was that last one that made it impossible. She did not date military men.

Vince was for sure glad to have a reason to see her again. He planned to find out why she was so resistant to go out with him. They'd had a great time and were good together. Then trouble hit. Someone broke into her apartment. She wasn't hurt but things could have been different. He wasn't going to let that happen.

A reason to be together at work and now to protect her. Time for him to be with her and to convince her not all military men made bad partners.

Could they have a future? Two people who knew about military life. This brother is different but just as strong, hot, and more than any could want. There is steam, emotion, and a great story.

Falling for both brothers is a reader's dream. And just think, there is one more!

Emma was a young woman who had been brought up by a military father who lied to his family and then married a man like her father. She realized she had issues, so when she meets a cute guy at a wedding she is catering she thought she could spend time with him and never see him again. His name was Vince and he was a Demolitions Marine home on leave for his brother's wedding. But 6 months later she is working at the base. organizing the speaking engagements for Vince without knowing it and is shocked when she turns and sees he is the one speaking to her. She insists that she doesn't want to date or get into a relationship, Vince is good with that because he is only there for his training and to spend the holidays with his family. They cannot seem to stay away from each other, but their fears stand in their way, and begins to tell on them both. Romance. Nice storyline. I was given an ARC from the author without obligations. I am providing an honest review.

Very little real drama , too much tell and not enough to show

Based on the description, I was expecting something a little more intense. I read the first book in rhe series and, while it suffered from the same problems, it was sufficiently compelling enough did me to finish it. I was a little leery about this one but the blurb drew me in. Unfortunately it was very deceptive. Forget about the break ins. There is one, and it’s dealt with completely off screen. As is most of the rest of the action. Even the big climax at the end isn’t a climax at all, as neither of the two protagonists are involved at all. This book is almost entirely a “will they, won’t they”.....and way too much of that is vacillating back and forth in internal monologue. If you like a book that meanders around without ever getting too intense (or intense at all), this is probably a good choice for you.

I loved Vince: Book 2 of Anchor Me. Vince had quite a one night stand the day of the wedding. e has not stopped thinking about Emma since. There is no place for a woman in a Marine's life it will only bring her heart ache with all the deployments and the not knowing. He and his siblings saw it in their mother growing up. Emma wants nothing to do with service men, she had enough bad experiences with her father and her ex husband who got another girl pregnant, but a one night stand can't go wrong right? Months later she comes face to face with the Marine who she's been emailing and will be taking to speeches. Imagine her surprise when it’s her one night stand. He looks so much better in his uniform than he did that night in a tux. I loved the story and the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.

Angelo's brother Vince had quite a one night stand the day of Angelo's wedding. So much so, that he has not stopped thinking about Emma since.. That's not like him though, there is no place for a woman in a Marine's life it will only bring her heart ache with all the deployments and the not knowing.....He and his siblings saw it in their mother growing up.

Emma wants nothing to do with service men, she had enough bad experiences with her father and her ex husband who got another girl pregnant, but a one night stand can't go wrong right? Months later she comes face to face with the Marine who she's been emailing and will be taking to speeches and who do you think is in her sites? Man oh man, he looks so much better in his uniform than he did that night in a tux

Does Vince want another go with the woman who has been haunting his dreams and will Emma give Vince a second chance?

I did like this book, I thought it was very sweet, and I really liked Vince. He was so humble and caring and all around a great character. I really liked Emma too, she was a strong individual and was a very hard worker. She was guarded and had wounds from her previous relationship making it hard for her to trust Vince and open up to him, but Vince was very patient with her and showed her how genuine of a guy he really is, which I really liked. Their relationship was really sweet and you could see that they really cared for each other.
I really did enjoy their book, I was hoping for a little more 'pizzazz' if you will, or something in the storyline to make these two characters click even more. I think there were a few opportunities in the book where this could have happened, I think that would have made the story and the characters even better.

Vince is a breathtaking holiday romance with a marine. I didn’t want to set this book down until I read the last page of the book. I was completely captivated from beginning to end. This book has a marvelous plot, wonderful characters, and a breathtaking outcome which I wasn’t expecting. Author Lisa Carlisle continues to show me what an incredible author, storyteller and writer she is with each book that I have read by her so far. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. The chemistry between the main characters is quite undeniably irresistible. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a fun holiday romance to read that has charm and suspense.

I am absolutely loving this series about strong alpha military men and the woman that tame them This is Vince's story

He met a woman and had a one night fling with her at his brothers wedding and then they went their separate ways but now he has been assigned a job in his home town and who will he be working with but non other than Emma his one night fling Now he wants to make it so much more but Emma not so much He has one thing that makes him unsuitable he is military and she doesn't date military After all her military father cheated on her mother and broke her heart and she had her own heart broken by a cheating military man Can Vince convince her that he isn't like the men she has met before and that he is the one for her.

Omg! Another page-turner right from the get-go! I love second chance stories & Ms. Carlisle did NOT disappoint with “VINCE” from the ‘Second Chance Navy SEAL’ Romance series. With a fresh plot, a relatable H/h & great secondary characters, as well as witty dialogue from Vince & Emma, they still have chemistry but is it enough to work out after all these years, this second time around? ... I never write spoilers or copy blurbs, and even tho I volunteered to read this, it was without any outside influences & I do buy kindle books whenever I can. So yes, I honestly do recommend this to 18+ adult fans of fiction & can’t wait for more! :D

A Marine you can love and trust!

Enjoyed this story of Vince and Emma. They both had relationship issues, but the heart wants what it wants, and time, trust, and true love can heal old wounds. I hated that Emma let that crappy ex-husband Peter's text add to her insecurities. She shouldn't have even acknowledged his message. Anyway, she and Vince both realized their love for each other was worth pursuing and holding on to. They truly deserve a happy ever after. I am excited to get to Matty's story and watch how quickly he falls for his woman.

I thought that this was a really good read. Vince and Emma are appealing characters that share great chemistry. I found this couple's story very interesting and its high level of emotional turmoil made it very dramatic and engaging. While attraction and desire are not a problem for the pair, big emotional baggage and real life certainly are. I felt that this was an all around excellent romance. I am posting a frank, volitional review.

One night but more

One doesn’t want a relationship and one doesn’t want one with military men....but over the course of this book they both decide they were wrong.

A cute story that intertwined their last experiences and concerns with their personal and professional jobs. The writing was vivid and well developed. The relationships and family dynamics were engaging and had me laughing or cheering for them along the way.

A sweet military romance and series!

Vince and Emma had one unforgettable night after meeting at his brother's wedding that she catered. Now that they are assigned to work together she's fighting her attraction to him and he's ready for something more. When problems arise for Emma with an ex, Vince goes into protective mode. I loved the chemistry between Vince and Emma and how no matter how much she fought it their attraction to each other pulled them together. Great writing and likable characters make this a must read.

Thoroughly enjoyed

Vice is a marine bomb expert. Staying single is what he feels is best with the risks involved in his job. What he doesn't expect is a chance meeting with one of the caterers at his brother's wedding. What happens is a night neither can forget. What they don't expect is to see each other again at work.
