4.5 stars.
I absolutely love this book!

The first half, I read so fast because I wanted to know what happened next.
The second half, is like a treat, a long and sweet epilogue for Immortal Guardians series especially for Ami and Marcus. Then near the end we’ve got a glimpse of a potential another fabulous new series. ❤️

So, why I didn’t give 5 stars?
Well, eventhought this is a stand alone and you’ll got a complete story for H/h, you do need to read Ami and Marcus story here and Seth story here . And if you fancy time travel story, you can read about Marcus’s childhood more in this fabulous book to really enjoy this book.

There you go, quite a few list, probably is better if you should start reading Immortal Guardians and The Gifted Ones series first! ❤️
See, what I mean? 😘😂

However, if you want to start to read a new SciFi Romance series, start from this one, because there were important part of that new series here and the next heroine appears in this book. And when Ms. Duvall tease us with book #2?
I want that book, now! 😀

So, go read this one and it doesn’t cost much either! 😘

❤️❤️❤️

Ami’s brother story everyone!
Yes, yes, he is an alien! Don’t worry the heroine is a human girl ❤️.
If you read Seth’s book, you got a glimpse of this H/h 😉.

I haven't read Immortal Guardians series, but still didn't have trouble following this story.
It's a lovely cross-over between Paranormal and SF romance.
Both MCs were acting and a logical way and I didn't have any problems with what they did and thought.
I must admit that I was a little troubled with hero's naivety.... OK, he's a prince from an advanced powerful race, but he just hurl himself into trouble alone to save his sister without thinking that he can be overpowered, if not with ability than with numbers! And so he's snatched by evil humans and tortured for 3 years!
Also, I don't know why in so many SF romance the technologically advance race must be a monarchy? And why the hero must be a prince?
One whould think that if they're technologically advanced they would be advanced also culturally...
If you can accept that this is rather good!

Dianne Duvall takes us off planet in her new sci-fi romance series, the Aldebarian Alliance. I listened over the course of two evenings and lost sleep, but it was worth it and left me with a serious book-hangover.

While this is a spinoff of the Immortal Guardians series (one of my faves), it holds its own as a new series and perfect for new listeners.

Our story opens with two tales and perspectives. Taelon is from a galaxy far-far away who sets out to find his sister, after she mysteriously disappeared. The second is from Lisa, a financially strapped college student, who does odd research studies for money. She takes part in a new study involving psychics at the Anomalous Cognition Research Institute. The two will soon find themselves prisoners in a secret government facility.

Intense, addictive and brilliant, I quickly slipped into the story. Duvall shared both Lisa and Taelon’s backgrounds as she slowly moved them both into danger and unites them.

The story takes place on and off planet Earth and oh boy; it was filled with suspenseful moments, unexpected twists and reveals for fans of Duvall’s Immortal Guardian series. I held my breath and worried about both Lisa and Taelon, especially after they escaped the government compound.

The romance was sweet and involved some unusual circumstances and obstacles. I enjoyed their dynamics and their chemistry. His endearments and slang made me laugh and swoon. Lisa is brave, quick-thinking, and I cheered for her often.

I find myself tongue tied to avoid spoilers; even as I want to scream, listen now! So go grab it!

Kirsten Potter narrated and did such a wonderful job with both characters as she enhanced the tale from suspense to tender moments.

The storyline and overall plot for the series ARC has me giddy. I want more and frankly; I want it now! Duvall has promised another Immortal Guardian novel while I wait, but I seriously hope we see the next audiobook soon! This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

A blend of sci-fi and paranormal?! Absolutely LOVED this unique story! Taelon is searching for his sister and learns she’s being held captive on Earth, he plans to rescue her and return to their planet. It doesn’t quite work out the way he’s planned and for almost three years he’s horrifically tortured and used for medical experiments by “doctors” on Earth. While he is in this facility, he hears a woman’s voice in his head and they begin to “speak” to each other. The two of them plan their escape and promise to save the other if one of them finds a way out. It’s a race for survival, as they slowly learn more about each other and the shocking facts about what happened to Lisa in the facility as well.
“He shook his head. “You’re making me revisit my opinion of Earthlings,” he admitted,

Her lips turned up in a faint smile. “Then we’re even. Because you’re making me see aliens in a whole new light.”
I didn’t even realized there is an entire previous series that I should have read before this one, but missing those stories didn’t hamper my reading enjoyment. Kirsten Potter did a wonder job as narrator.

Highly recommended for readers who like sci-fi, vampires, aliens, and two beings struggling to survive together. Intelligent, kind, and supportive, I loved these two together. It’s a slow burn for their relationship...but there is also something else that binds them together.

Note - This series apparently is connected to the author's Immortal Guardians series, which I have not read. Although several side characters appear to have been in that prior series, I did not feel lost in the intersection of these two series.

The Lasaran is an engaging mix of sci-fi and paranormal romance. The story starts with a sci-fi element in the prologue, introducing Taelon (H) as an alien prince who is journeying to Earth in search of his missing younger sister. Taelon and his family fear that she's dead, but are hopeful she may have survived, even as they believe she would at least have suffered torture. They are prepared to attack Earth in retribution, but Taelon wants to scout the area first to see if he can find her on his own. Taelon's people look human so this is not an alieny looking alien romance.

The story then switches to Lisa (h), a college student who's trying to pick up the pieces of her life after losing both of her parents. She joins a paid study researching psychics that ends up endangering her and altering her entire life. Though, she does meet Taelon because of this dark turn and the two find an instant sense of connection and trust in the face of huge odds. The romance is sweet with an insta feel to it, while still creating a genuine bond between them, which contrasts with the loads of suspense and gut-wrenching peril. Written in third person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and I don't believe either was a virgin but I don't recall seeing a mention of H's history, only a brief reference to h's.

I loved the elements of culture clash and culture teaching that occurs, for example Taelon's people don't allow for unbonded males and females to have physical contact and females are very protected on their world. Babies are also uncommon due to a virus that affected their females. There's no language barrier though. The telepathic elements were also really neat and the paranormal world building aspect was fascinating, even if it wasn't as big of a part of Lisa and Taelon's story. Lisa and Taelon were caring and protective of each other despite the trauma before their meeting, they were such good characters at their core that didn't let what had happened to them destroy them. Both were resourceful, open to listening to others, and surprisingly competent in completely crazy circumstances.

A good chunk of the book is Taelon and Lisa alone, figuring out what and where is safe and whether Taelon is still able to search for his sister (there is a resolution to this plot line by the end just FYI). While they build their relationship, they're doing so in a highly pressurized situation. Not all scenes are them racing from someone or to something, there are lighter moments, but their situation is complicated by what's been done to them (see triggers at the end if needed). There's also steam and it is explicit. Some of the steam is limited to more of fooling around because of their physical conditions, but there are several scenes of them being physically intimate in addition to the ones of them strengthening their emotional intimacy.

Supporting characters are critical in this book because some are involved in helping to rescue Taelon and Lisa, some are in question, some are supportive once they reach safety, and others are just worried about where they are and what's happening to them. There were many side characters, though it didn't get too confusing for me because not all were on page for long. Several were connected to the prior series mentioned above so would probably be appealing cameos for readers of that series. A couple side characters are children and they were precious and adorable and the scenes of them with adults were extra cute.

The darker parts of this book were not to my taste and I struggled at times. The writing was excellent and flowed so well, I couldn't put this book down even when I was horrified over what the characters had gone through. There was an easiness to the story even in the harder moments, I don't know if that makes sense. Some facets of the world weren't explained in as much depth though and some situations were glossed over a bit. The pacing was very fast, which isn't a complaint, but might be too fast for some readers.

I've tried to avoid big spoilers through this review. The majority of the book does take place on Earth. Some of the book also takes place in space among other alien species too (which presumably show up later in the series as well or maybe in a future series). I felt like this book didn't have a true climax, but rather ebbs and flows in terms of the main characters' well-being and happiness since danger presented itself on multiple fronts. An event does take place closer to the end that sets up scenarios for other books in the series. The ending is HEA/HFN though with them in love, bonded, and ready to settle into their new life together. I did wish for an epilogue in the future highlighting what Lisa was doing and more of a slice of life, though the last chapters were adorable and had a very loving feel.

Sci-Fi is not a genre I gravitate towards, but I decided to make an exception for The Lasaran.  You see, this is a spinoff of the Immortal Guardian series.  Having read a few of the Immortal Guardian books (I really need to catch up on it) I was eager to see what Duvall was bringing to the table with this new series.

Now there’s no need to read the Immortal Guardian books prior to starting this series, as it can stand on its own. However, I must warn you once you read this book you will be tempted to read the books from the Immortal Guardian series. The story introduces Taleon of Lasara who is preparing for a mission to earth to find is sister Amariska.  In book one of the Immortal Guardian series the reader was introduced to Amariska and received her full story in the second book.  Taleon upon reaching Earth was captured and subjected to a myriad of torturous experiments. Lisa, a graduate student seeking to earn additional funds to help make ends meet too part in several research studies. The latest one involved a study of psychic talents. During a round of testing Lisa was rendered unconscious, with her waking eight months later to find herself in a strange and precarious situation. The one thing giving her hope was her psychic link to the man being held prisoner in another section of the facility.

Wow! What a ride. The Lasaran took the reader on a journey filled with romance, intrigue and humour. Some events noted here coincided with incidents which occurred in the Immortal Guardian series. Majority of the story took place on earth with the reader being treated to suspenseful moments and unexpected twists.

I enjoyed getting to know Taleon and Lisa. Lisa turned out to resilient, smart and brave, the kind of heroine I enjoy reading about. I loved the chemistry between these two and their lively interactions. Their romance despite its complicated nature was sweet and downright adorable.

I chose to listen to the audio version which I have done for all the books I have read for Duvall.  Kristen Potter is her narrator of choice, and I can see why. She breathes life into the story.

Overall, The Lasaran was a great start to the Aldebarian Alliance series.  I recommend this to fans of Immortal Guardian series and lovers of sci-fi romance.

What an absolutely delightful book!!!
Let me be honest, it was that beautiful cover that Intrigued me at first. And I’m so soooo glad I found this.
From start to end it was a fantastically written book.
Aliens, immortals, vampires, gifted ones, adorable babies and truly brave hero heroine!
I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’m keeping my review simple.
There were so many hilarious scenes and so many emotional ones. I enjoyed both. Just when I was like ‘ and they lived happily ever after’ boom! That twist I wasn’t expecting. But it completely captured my attention...again.
I will definitely read the whole series and more from this author.
Completely safe with a(www)dorable hero.
If you like action and twists filled sci-fi romance you have to read this!

I didn't realize that this was a spin off of the Immortal Guardians series. So it was a pleasant surprise that a lot of the same characters show up. But it was like looking at the IGs from the other side of the looking glass as you fall down the rabbit hole.

Lisa needs to pay for her classes so she signs up for different drug trials and one of them is run by a clandestine branch of the government. Their looking for true psychic talent. Lisa had no idea what she was really signing up for.
While scared and confused she makes contact with another 'patient' named Taelon. What she doesn't know (but the reader does) is that Taelon isn't human. He's here to find his sister Amaristka (sp?).
If you know who this character is from IG, then this book is for you. If you don't, then I doubt you'd enjoy it as much. Or maybe it will be doubly mysterious??
My only complaint is that they fell in love almost instantly and I would have liked a little less certainty about feelings.

Anyways, This one is a lot of fun and was hard to put down. I listened to the audio and Kristen Potter (DD's usual choice) does a fabulous job.

safety is good

At the end there's a brief excerpt from book 2 and i am so looking forward to it!

Such a shame. There was a lot of potential but the book failed for me on many points.

I’ll talk general first. I’m not a fan of insta love. And I just didn’t feel it when they confessed it to each other. The second was the story back tracked on itself a lot. It say one thing and then turn around and do something contradictory without acknowledging it.

SPOILERS AGEAD

Specifically, I’ll start with a basic example. They stop before having sex because he’s worried about the baby and her. Then shortly there after they would have had sex without acknowledging the pregnancy problem or what they thought, and would have done the deed if not interrupted with no menu of why they hadn’t done it before.

But here’s the big one for me. We are told that Larsians don’t touch in advance of having a life mate primarily for population control. Then we learn there is a virus that has sterilized much of the female population. Our main guy said the last time he’s seen a baby is his sister (who is 50 earth years). So why haven’t the laws changed as now they are facing under population. We learn both these contradictory facts early in the book. We don’t get a flimsy excuse for why those two facts can exist together until the end of the book. So the entire time I’m reading I can’t believe this author has such a huge plot hole.

Anyway, there are other smaller ones. I just felt this book wasn’t fleshed our well.

While I root for nice guys to win, I also found myself not endeared to this one. I rolled my eyes a lot and probably because of the insta love I didn’t buy.

Will I read more? Probably as it ties to the other series. But I’ll give it one more book in this series before I give up.

I READ THE KINDLE EDITION AND I LISTEN TO THE AUDIBLE EDITION NARRATED BY KIRSTEN POTTER!!

If I could give the Lasaran 10 Stars I would. The story stars out with Prince Taelon of Lasara going to find his sister Amiriska know as Ami in the Immortal Guardians World. Ami was captured and tortured on Earth for months before she was found by Seth and David the heads of the IG's.

Taelon is captured and tortured for 3 years on an Earth Military Base. He hears a voice of a sad women Lisa who is also, being held on the Military base in Texas. The two communicate telepathically. This is the beginning of a profound love.

The Lasaran Aldebarian Alliance series is a perfect marriage to the Immortal Guardian series. It was such joy when Ami gets reunited with her brother Taelon. The story moves fast, there is action, happiness, sadness. I was crying when Ami was able to see her parents and introduce them to Adera her baby daughter. Its a moving scene in the story. The love between Taelon and Lisa an all they go through to escape there torturers' is heart rendering.

I must say that I recommend anyone reading The Lasaran first read The Immortal Guardian series. It can stand alone, but it is so much more rewarding to understand the back story and the characters that are from the IG series.

I also, listen to it on audible. As usual Kirsten Potter is Amazing as the narrator!! I just love this first book in a new series.

So apparently we’re supposed to believe that Lasaran’s are basically humans but have a utopia planet with no violence (but they have an armada/army and all the men are basasses) who are “more advanced socially than humans” (literal quote from the book) but men and women aren’t allowed to touch in public/have sex before marriage? Uh huh yeah right. Also- it’s a completely hetero world on both sides with no same sex relationships described as being normal on either side and only het couples ever talked about. Also- women are “protected,” “don’t have to fight,” “stay at home.” Not that there’s anything wrong with women wanting that, but to write it into your supposedly utopian human like society is bullshit. Oh and lest you think it’s an equal society, women can’t have sex before bonding so men don’t either and everyone is a virgin and abstinence only. No- the author explicitly describes how Taelon fucked around on other planets but he is upset that his sister has done it w one human dude. His sister legit walks in on him about to fuck Lisa and they’re sure as shit not bonded yet but gets upset that Ami puts her hand on Marcus’ (her partner) knee. That ain’t no socially advanced society. Also- there’s a servant class who conditioned out of having emotions?? That doesn’t read as more advanced socially so wtf is this author trying to say. Anyway- mediocre plot. I hated that this woman is artificially inseminated while in a coma by an alien and only freaks out for like five minutes when she thinks the alien is like the Alien movie alien but totes cool and happy about it when he’s a hot muscley guy. I’m gonna be honest here- if i woke up from a coma and found out i was 7 months pregnant, found out aliens exist, found out immortals are on earth and have to break out of a military complex i am not handling that with any kind of dignity. I’m getting the fuck out and then I’m seriously considering abortion. Then we get to the part where she’s like “yeah I’ll go to space w you, be a princess and lose all my rights because love and hot sex triumphs all right.” This just ended and i immediately pictured them 2 years down the road and he’s cheating on her and she’s angry and disgruntled and ready to head back home to earth.

Again- mediocre, dumb in some parts, not funny, not witty, no interesting action.

OH AND ALSO- NO TOUCHING FEMALES BULL APPLIES TO MOTHERFUCKING BABIES. And i don’t mean sexually touching like Lisa asks one of the male Lasarans to hold her child and he freaks about it. I’m done i can’t keep thinking about how mad this makes me

DNF'd. Too campy. I need a little bit of edge to at least one of the characters, but nope. This was insta love ~ lust ~ something that just set my teeth on edge. I'm in the minority here, but if you like your science fiction romance to have some sci fi in it, this ain't it.

So I guess I lot of my issue with this comes down to expectations. This was NOT what I was expecting from this book. I thought this was going to be a sci-fi space adventure type of book. ...It was not.

Taelon is an alien from a planet a distance 13 months away. He travels to Earth to find and rescue his sister. Lisa is a psychic on Earth who is Without giving too much away, vampires play a large role in this story, so there is also a major fantasy/paranormal aspect to this whole book as well, which I wasn't anticipating really. So it was high on the paranormal and low on the science.

So beyond the plot that I wasn't expecting, I had a few other issues with the book, like that Taleon is a distant alien that exactly resembles humans. Rally? And the romance between Taleon and Lisa happened so quickly it felt very superficial. The dialogue felt unrealistic and OTT at times, so just overall, kind of shallow.

The first half was thrilling, the second half boring ass bonus content. This is so hard for me to rate because I really did like it, and was on the edge of my seat for a while there! But then our two protagonists meet and thus begins the snooze fest that was underdeveloped romantic bliss. I needed tension, and all I got were happy people. Love happy people irl but in this case, in this book, made me a very bored girl.

The thing that irks me the most is that had there been a single interpersonal conflict between T and L it could have made for a much more interesting second half while simultaneously adding a bit more depth to their yes man personas. I’m honestly surprise I finished, I was that bored.

Overall, if you’re cruising for a low tension easy read, this is your pony. If you’re looking for something a bit more stimulating, read the first half and call it a day. Cause that shit really was fun.

(4.5 stars) I love that Dianne Duvall is expanding the Immortal Guardians’ world with Ami’s family. Can’t wait for more!! ‘The Segonian’ is up next. Now, I’m anxious to reread ‘Death of Darkness’.

7 Mar 2020:
😃 sounds good! Anxiously awaiting what author says is a spin-off of her Immortal Guardians.

“The Lasaran is the first book in my new sci-fi romance series—Aldebarian Alliance. When I gave my Street Team a sneak peek, some asked if this is a spin-off of my Immortal Guardians series. It is. But if you're new to my work, you don't have to read my Immortal Guardians series to enjoy this one.

If you're an Immortal Guardians fan, don't worry. I plan to release my next Immortal Guardians book later this year. Until then, I think you'll enjoy seeing a few familiar faces in this one.” (Dianne Duvall’s blog)

I enjoyed the story and the meeting of old friends from the Immortal Guardians series. My main niggle was that The Lasaran mostly played out on good old Earth.

I wanted more space time instead of the long time both MC's spend at the motel. But that's simply my issue. The writing was amazing, like always. This was once again just an issue of different expectations.

If you like the Immortal Guardians you will probably like The Lasaran.

Tightly written, action packed, and with awesome character development, the author really outdid her previous great works with this one. Fantastic doesn't even begin to describe it! In this spinoff to her Immortal Guardians (IG) series you'll get to revisit old friends and meet some new ones who are, literally, out of this world. Also, we're moving from not just paranormal, but to sci-fi crissover - which she handles exceedingly well.

While reading the previous books from her IG series is recommended, because they are just that good, it isn't necessary. But, I encourage you to read them anyway because you'll understand the back story much better.

The Lasaran introduces you to the Immortal Guardians and then takes you on a trip across the galaxy to the planet of Lasara. Along the way you'll meet a bunch of really cool paranormal and new alien beings, which then sets the stage for THIS series - The Aldebarian Alliance.

In this one our h/H, Lisa and Taelon, meet under awful circumstances, both having been held prisoner and experimented on. Their escape, from the labs they're held in, brings about a sweet romance, even as they struggle to stay free from those hunting them.

Taelon arrived on Earth to search for his sister, Amiriska (Ami), who we meet, briefly, in the 1st book of the IG series, with the 2nd book focused on her (I'll list all IG books at the bottom). Lisa was taken after performing in a "research study" on psychic talents. She is the missing "Gifted One" Seth, the leader of the Immortal Guardians, was searching for in the previous IG story, Death of Darkness. Again, no worries if you haven't read the others, you'll be fine as things are explained throughout.

Romance, action, danger, heated passion, long-awaited family reunions, sweet babies and toddlers, paranormal abilities, sci-fi space travel - it's all yours in this excellent addition to Dianne Duvall's writings. Don't miss out on this exceptional series of adventures.

I cannot wait for the release of the next book in this series, The Segonian. There is a sample of it at the end of The Lasaran. After reading, what I believe is the 1st chapter, I was left wanting to stomp my feet in frustration of having to wait for it, lol!

Immortal Guardians series:
1. Darkness Dawns
2. Night Reigns
3. Phantom Shadows
4. Darkness Rises
5. Night Unbound
6. Shadows Strike
7. Blade of Darkness
8. Awaken the Darkness
9. Death of Darkness

Did not finish at 75%. At this point, the story seems like it should have ended. They’ve achieved their objectives, met their friends and allies, everyone is healed, and they have confessed their love. What else is there!? I just don’t have any more curiosity about them. The book felt like manufactured drama after the first pert. I’m just not invested. Too much is solved and no mysteries remain at this point.

You know the advice to writers to outline the book with important scenes!? Well, it feels like the author outlined the events that needed to happen at the start of the book but didn’t really think about how to write the connecting bits. It jumps between characters and situations in a very confusing way in the very beginning.

Re-read Oct 2023 - So much better now that I have read all the Immortal Guardians books.

Jan 2021 - This was my first book by Duvall and while I'm certain some scenes would have had a deeper meaning if I'd read the Immortal Guardians series, I found I could follow and enjoy this story just fine. It starts off with a bang and while the middle did lag a little, it ended with excitement and a tease of what is to come next. I loved the sci-fi elements, I loved this world Duvall has created and I look forward to continuing on with the next book. Definitely recommend if you enjoy steam with your sci-fi, and I'd absolutely recommend the audio version. The narrator did a great job.

I was not expecting what happened at the end of the book, and to be honest, I don't think I'm going to be a fan of how things will turn out in the next few books of this series.

Fabulous! A stay up all night to finish read! LOVED this one to pieces!

Now, having said all of that. I have read the entire Immortal Guardians series by this author. This book starts a spin off from that series. I truly think that readers will need to read at least books 1,2 and 9 of the IG series in order to best follow what is going on in this book. The world building and lore that has taken place in the previous series is difficult to condense into background information for this book. Plus, this book gives us more history as to what has been happening on Earth with the vampire virus.

It is a great paranormal/alien read--hands down! Lots of action. Steamy romance after a slow burn. Lots of characters from the previous series pop up in this one. I just think an first pick up of this author the reader will be confused for a bit about what is going on.

This book was teased at the end of Death of Darkness. I squealed when I read the end of that book. Lasaran takes us back a month or so from the end of Death of Darkness and gives us Taelon and Lisa's story. I can't express enough how gripping this story was. I needed to know where these two would land. I LOVED learning more about Tealon and Ami's family. All the space scenes. This could be a movie!

Great job! And the peek at the next book in the series---whew!!! I can't wait to add it to my TBR!

Just when I thought the book was wrapping up, I noticed I was around 75%.... Entering on, the late book plot! I didn't mind it. I actually liked it better. It also set up the next book in the series, which I will absolutely be getting into. Audio was well done, though I did find the narrator seemed to be at a different age than the FMC and I kept getting confused. I also think this would be a fantastic duet narration because the MMC voice wasn't nearly what my head canon imagined it to be.
