Gwen Ryland knows two things about the men pursuing her through the Rocky Mountains: they’re holding her brother hostage…and they won’t stop until they catch her, too. Now Gwen’s life depends on the man who once broke her friend’s heart—former army ranger Caden O’Callaghan. But can they figure out what the men want in time to save her brother…and Gwen?

The hair-raising opening scene grabbed my attention and the action and suspense kept me riveted all the way through. And it all takes place in the mountain wilderness which adds an extra thrill.
While it's not marked as a series, this is the third book featuring the O'Callaghan brothers (and there's one more to go! Hopefully that means a fourth novel is in the works.) Griffin and Tory (Christmas Witness Pursuit) get to play supporting roles towards the end of this one which was a fun surprise. Dreamy sighing over these cowboy brothers. Each book reads as a standalone, so no worries if you haven't read any of the other books.
Edge-of-your-seat suspense and romance on the run makes Hostage Rescue a pure delight. I'm definitely a happy fan-girling reader!
The situation in this one was in a word...hokey. A lot of the time, the conversations and decisions that took place were bordering on being silly and so I couldn’t really feel any tension for the characters or take anything seriously.
However, I do appreciate the fact that at the end there is a mentioned period of two months wherein the characters DO talk and get to know each other as friends before their HEA. As such, it was a nice little addition, and so overall an okay romance.
Great read. This author never disappoints, and the book had plenty of suspense and action to keep me reading. This is the third in her mini series about the O'Callahan brothers, and I enjoyed it
This story kept me engaged from the first few paragraphs when th heroine nearly loses her life y'all my off a cliff while hiking with her brother. Caden to the rescue. Evil men pursue them all through the story . What happened to the brother and why are these men after her?
I just discovered this author's work this year and I am a fan! This is most excellent suspense. Two people in the Colorado mountains running from killers without let up. Phew! My kind of book. Now I'm off to read more of Harris's work.
While hiking with her brother, Aaron, Gwen Ryland is shoved off a cliff and Aaron is kidnapped by two assailants. Caden O’ Callaghan, also out hiking, hears Gwen scream and goes to investigate. From there things go downhill. Gwen has a sprained ankle and suddenly, they are being pursued. The action rarely lets up and the circumstances get very frightening. All against a backstory that has Gwen and Caden on opposite sides of a wedding gone wrong. Many years ago, Caden and Cammie, best friend of Gwen, called it off just before the event. Even as Gwen and Caden sort through their present difficulties and past differences, they both rely on God to make something good out of the situation they find themselves in. Can they stop fighting their attraction and make sense of the journey they are on? With lots of tension and believable scenarios, Ms. Harris gives us another great story about one of the O’ Callaghan brothers. And we get to visit the scenic wilderness where their ranch is located. *I received a complimentary e-copy from the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Gwen Ryland and her brother have gone for a hike in the Rocky Mountains. They are having a great day of brother/sister competition until they are blindsided by an attack by two masked men. The two men kidnap Gwen’s brother and leave her stranded and wounded on the side of a cliff. She’s conscious and knows her ankle is injured and that whoever these men were, they are going to come back for her! She has got to get a plan to get off the mountain! Former Armer Ranger Caden O’Callaghan does a lone camp out just to get away from everyone and everything. He heard the commotion going on up above him and quickly grabbed his field glasses to assess what was happening. When he saw the woman go over the edge and land, all of his training kicked in and he was in high gear planning her rescue! Good hing he was still in excellent physical shape and maybe even better was the fact that he ALWAYS kept a gun with him! He made his way as quickly as he could to the woman in distress. It was difficult to know which one of them was more relieved that he got to her and knew what to do. That is . . . Until the locked eyes on each other and realized they had a HISTORY and NOT in a good way! Caden was engaged to Gwen’s Best Friend and called the Wedding OFF the night of the Rehearsal! Gwen (who was the Maid of Honor) told him off and had continued to hold him accountable for all these years! They were stunned when they recognized each other.
Harris uses this scenario as the backdrop for the rest of the story. Gwen continues to be in severe pain with her ankle. The only way out is up! He is an expert in logistics. His plan for escape makes for interesting and entertaining reading! Can the two of them overlook their past and work together in order to get out of this alive? Harris has written an action-packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of our seat! Her writing is so descriptive that readers will feel like they are climbing the mountain and fleeing their pursuers! She has characters that are the perfect fits for this story. Her use of nature itself makes it almost seem as if it is a character in the story. The plot is fast paced and will keep you entertained. I highly recommend this book!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I used to read Harlequin books in my younger years. My mother-in-law bought me several for Christmas this past year, they finally made it into the rotation, so I thought I would take a break for a quick, sappy story. What I like about these books is that if you have the time, you could finish it in a day... excellent "beach" material.
So this was an "inspirational romance", so there was some God & bible verbiage. It wasn't excessive. The story was the usual Harlequin "formula", so you know how it would end.... happily ever after.
The story spans 2 -3 days. It was a good plot & story that moved at a quick pace. The last chapter ties it all up when the conflicts are resolved.
Anyways.... I was surprised that with Harlequin Publishing's resources there were several typos/errors. I've come to expect these typos with those that self publish, because authors can't afford a proofreader, editor, etc. But with a large publishing company, I expected zero errors. Unfortunately, for the past 10 years, I've been proofreading/editing my husband's writing, so I never read without a red pen in my hand (sometimes it takes the joy out of reading). So, I found errors on pages 55, 127, 177, 216.
Several of these were included in my Christmas basket, & I don't think I'm ready to read another one right away. Someday...
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Hostage Rescue. I always enjoy Lisa's books. This is an excellent example of her work. The story is well written, full of action, and full of faith. I know you are going to love this one.
Prosecutor Gwen Ryland and her brother are hiking in the mountains. She is taking photos trying to unwind from a bad case. Two masked men ran up behind her and holds her. Her brother goes after the man holding her and she falls into the canyon. She is rescued by a man she had come to hate.
Former Army Ranger Caden O'Callaghan hears a scream and runs to help. He sees two mask men abduct a third man. The man yells to save his sister that had been thrown over the edge. Caden sets out to find the girl. He finds her but realizes she is the woman who accused him of breaking her best friends heart. Will she let him help her?
A journey to find help, find her brother, and the men who had kidnapped him. These two broken souls must fight the mountain, rapids, and killers. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; even in these trying times. It's a good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
Hostage Rescue by Lisa Harris is the third book in her O’Callaghan Brothers’ series. This story starts off with an adrenaline-rush chase through the Rocky Mountains. Gwen Ryland is now being chased by the masked men who kidnapped her brother on the trail and pushed her over the edge of a cliff. Former army ranger, Caden O’Callaghan, hears the scream and goes to investigate. Putting himself right in the middle of the danger. Caden must use all his skills to get Gwen safely out of the mountains. Gwen was my kind of heroine. She wasn’t a fainting, crying wimp. She was able to able to look at the situation and help Caden figure out a solution. Just as Gwen hoped that her faith would always be strong no matter the situation, we struggle with the same issues. I love how Lisa always works faith and trust in God into her edge-of-your-seat adventures!
I received this book from the author for my honest review.
Another fast paced action packed book by Lisa Harris. This is the third book in the O’Callaghan Brothers series. Gwen Ryland finds herself injured and running for her life in the Rocky Mountains. Caden O’Callaghan, a not so great blast from her past, comes to her rescue and the two embark on quite the adventure. As usual, Lisa Harris does a great job of writing the characters and helping the reader to get to know them in a real and personal way. Harris’ description of the setting makes you feel as if your right there in the Rocky Mountains with them. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the 4th Callaghan brother. I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed are completely my own.
Rocky Mountains! Danger! A former army ranger turned rancher! Kidnapping! White water rapids! What's not to like about Hostage Rescue? Lisa Harris has written another great book about one of the O'Callaghan brothers! Gwen Ryland is hiking with her brother when someone tries to kill her! Even though Gwen told him off the last time he saw her, Caden can't leave her alone in the wilderness! You will keep turning pages in this suspenseful book full of danger! I recommend Hostage Rescue to anyone who enjoys suspense! I received an advance copy of Hostage Rescue from the author. This is my honest opinion.
This a great story to read. For Lisa brings together two people with a past history that have to trust each other despite it. Gwen Ryland is scared to trust. Caden O'Callaghan has never admitted to what really happened due to a sense of honour. This was a great book to read. For it's about relying on each other despite the past. It's a great book full of suspense and just the right amount of romance. I like how Lisa has them hesitant because of the past. They don't just jump into things which is a nice change. Lisa does a excellent job with this book. I like how she ends this book. For it answers some of the unknown. It's definitely worth a read. J
This is the third book in the O'Callaghan Brothers series. This story is action packed and full of suspense! Gwen Ryland is hiking in the Rocky Mountains with her brother when they are attacked by two masked men. She gets pushed off the side of the mountain and her brother kidnapped. Hunky Cade O'Callaghan is a former Army Ranger and is enjoying a solo camping trip when he hears Gwen's scream, and goes to her aid. It turns out that Gwen and Cade had known each other when Cade was engaged to her best friend, Cammie. In fact, Gwen thinks Cade left Cammie at the alter.
This book takes off running as Gwen and her brother enjoy a hike in a canyon when he is kidnapped, and she is attacked by two masked men. Former Army Ranger Caden O’Callaghan comes to Gwen's rescue, but can they escape the attacks of the masked men, danger, bullets, and so much more as they attempt to reach safety and rescue Gwen's brother? An edge-of-your-seat story with plenty of twists and turns each step of the way--to the end. A clean romantic suspense that kept me turning pages to the end!
I didn't realize this was from a series because it wasn't clearly marked on the book cover, so being presented with clearly-previously-introduced characters jarred me a bit. Sure enough, the end of the book shows two other previous books in the series, and I see there's a fourth one too.
I thought Gwen and Caden were a good couple, and really enjoyed their intense story. The only real issue for me was that Gwen's "best friend" relationship was very very distant, so that kind of loyalty was a hard sell for me. She definitely was long overdue to outgrow it.
When Gwen is pushed over the edge of a cliff, Caden is the lone chance she has to survive. He saves her, only to be tracked by the perps while working their way downriver on a raft that two men shared with them. Caden & Gwen escape again, only to be picked up by a stranger who delivers them back to the perps. They escape a third time and are recaptured once again. The book ended much too abruptly but was a good read anyway.
Lisa Harris has done it again with Hostage Rescue. This book is an amazing book to see more into the Callahan brothers. This book is no exception to action and romance. Gripping from start to finish. I didn't want to put the book down. I can not wait for the next book looking into the Callahan brothers lives.
This novel has so much action in it that I wondered how the main characters survived. Of course, there is some romance too. Being in a mountainous area with a nasty felon is not a good scenario for the main characters. The author's writing is good, and she keeps the story moving so the reader can enjoy it.
Hostage Rescue is a sweet romance with plenty of action and believable characters. A ruggedly handsome hero who puts himself in danger to save the heroine keeps the story interesting.
I thoroughly loved the suspense. Two masked men separate a brother and sister on a hiking trek. but she is saved by an acquaintance. Every time they think all is safe trouble still follows them.
I liked this story was moving quickly. I couldn’t put the book down. I was totally pulled in . Love of site specific info- rafting and safe room details were great additions. What happens next?
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are believable and interesting. The.suspense is enough to make you want to turn the page and find out what happens next. I definitely recommend this book.
The storyline was good and I really enjoyed the entire book. The best part the love stuff came at the end of the book, which made this one so good because the story came first.
