The return of Granite

This is my 17th book too. I am looking forward to the next one. I love how Ginny Dye weaves one story into another and keeps me wanting to read the next story., the next weave. I am not one to read books in a series, but Ginny's books have me hooked. Ms. Dye hasn't reached my lifetime yet, but I'm feeling more and more like a Bregdan Woman. The struggle goes on.

Ginny Dye continues to amaze me! I never would have bet that I would still be anxiously awaiting #17 of the Bregdan Chronicle series -- I thought it would fade or be repetitive -- NOT so! Again, I had a hard time putting this new installment down until I finished! I checked my progress at one point, concerned that I would be almost at the end of the book -- I didn't want it to end! I was only in the middle ;-) So much had happened, I had enjoyed learning new history, I had loved spending time with favorite characters and meeting new ones, and the author sent me looking for more details about historical events she included in this book.

An unexpected historical event provided a timeliness the author couldn't have foreseen -- a flu outbreak was an important plot element in this book. I'm sure other readers will join me in being comforted that we are doing our best, like the people at Cromwell Farms did with their flu outbreak! I will be interested to see if the friends who requested your generous offer of Book #1 have read and loved your books like I do.....

I have read all 16 of her books and this was one of the best. there are no "disasters" or major challenges, it covers ore intently the horrific situation of black people during this period in our nations history. When we look at the Black Lives Matter issues today, we see that the same prejudices still are with us they are just differently shown. The book also focuses on the right of women to vote and highlights the positive things that women did to get us this invaluable right. All really well done. I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one.

Loved the book. Never ending story of joys, strides, and tragedies.

Highly recommended series of stories that show our history that can't be forgotten. Very well related to the world we now have.

As always I loved this book/ series. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. This book made me cry, at times with very sad tears and then with very happy tears. I feel bad for the characters sometimes because the author likes to include bits of history in the story as a direct experience of one or more of the characters. I swear between them all they have been through more major tragedies than any probability dictates for any small group pf people. Part of me just wants them all to settle and have a happy life! But the author is trying to show the major events, and mostly history records the really bad stuff. But she also builds on the dreams, the hopeful, they way things could have been, which really gets me thinking.

Awesome - can’t wait to read #18!

The story is not polarized to the South. It spans reality and the historical facts mirror those unfolding today - with hope for the future.

I absolutely love Ginny’s books!

From the very first book I was pulled into not only the history, but the story that has been woven around that history. I have checked on quite a few of the historical things she writes about and I found them to be true. I am amazed at the things I did not know and probably would never have learned without having read these books. I’m on the 18th book now in the series and I will finish out as many as she has written and then go onto other stories that she has written. She has risen to the top of my list as an author and is among my favorites.

Renewed by Dawn

I have read every book in this series up and through this one. I loved them all!
Carrie and family embrace life on the plantation, far away from dangerous riots. The riots, in several cities, resulted in grave injury or even death for too many friends...even some family members..
Carrie, a doctor, is glad to be home again. She left the city behind, knowing that the KKK is murdering families and any whites who help blacks.
What will it take to have renewal and a fresh Dawn???

With each book I have wait and anticipate the joys and lives of friends I met through Ginny in The Bregdan Chronicles. Thank you for never disappointing and for your love of writing. I look forward to #18 this summer.
It is when I finish one of these stories I wish I could be patient and wait until the series ends and start reading #1 through to the end. Then I would be able to finish one and start the next without a waiting period. But then I would miss the joy of the wait.
Have a great summer, Ginny, and stay well in this time of safe distancing. 2020, we had such high hopes for you and you, 2020, have been memorable thus far.

Decent read, but I'm disappointed that Peter didn't make it to Peshtigo. I knew where the author was going as soon as she mentioned it, but then she kept him in Chicago. Sigh. Peshtigo and the fire tornado would have been a much better story. Also, the Granite story line was weird and I hate that she called the new horse Granite. Even if it is a reincarnation - give the new baby some kind of derivative name. That was a little creepy.

From page one these books pull you in and are like visits with cherished friends. I never fail to learn something from these tales and this one was no exception. Of course, there is always the history coming to life but this edition had more.

The United States is in turmoil and chaos as I write this in 2020. This book made me realize that this has always been the case. The people who lived in 1871 got through their challenges and we will too.

Can't wait for the next book!

RENEWED BY DAWN: another wonderful visit to Cromwell

I have been reading this series from the beginning, and have reviewed several of the books. All of them are wonderful, even the ones I didn
t write a review for. This one, though, has moved me more than some of the others. In the middle of a pandemic, we all need renewing. Thanks for this encouraging and hopeful book. It is especially needed right now.

Faith Hope and Love

I love the way this book and all the other chronicles embody the hardships and struggle to hope again! We each face those struggles! It's clear that we must CHOOSE hope! If that hope we choose is engulfed in love, the love of others, then hope is indeed rewarded in sheer joy! The Bregdan Chronicles are well worth reading, and the journey they take us through our own sorrows into joy!

Another beautifully portrayed slice of life in the 18th century.

I love the characters in this recap of life lived long ago in the south. As I found with all prior books the characters become so real you look forward to what will become of them and their family. What a great slice of history along with a realistic portrayal of live lived during the times. Can't wait for the next book!

Family is growing

As this family has grown by leaps and bounds, I find myself totally immersed in finding out what the future holds for them all. This Bregdan Chronicles has certainly held me captive throughout these 17 books. I love historical fiction and have stopped a few times to check Dye’s research through my own research of facts and she is spot on. I love how she interweaves the everyday lives of her characters into an actual historical event.

Historical Fiction comes alive in each and every one of the Brendan Chronicles. Start with the first book and continue reading all of the chronicles. You will be captivated by the history in each one. Thank you, Ms Dyer, for all your research that made the history, both good and bad, come alive during this time period.

I enjoyed reading this series. As I mentioned earlier in a review the books capture the Civil War/slavery era very well. These stories would make for a very interesting and educational TV series. I for one would certainly watch it! But.......if they bake one more batch of cookies I think I might scream!

Renewed By Dawn

Renewed by dawn was another great book by Ginny Dye. She is masterful in keeping your attention. I have read every book she has written up to this point in the Brigdon Chronicles historical fiction series. It is a delight to be able to read these books every day I wish for continued success in being able to continue to write for many years to come.

Courage and Hope

While it is hard sometimes to keep all the characters in the book straight, the author does a wonderful job of reminding you, the reader, their story and how they fit into the lives of everyone at the Cromwell Plantation. Stories of sorrow and hope as America fights its way through hate and prejudice.

Light drives out darkness

As Ginny reminds us you can't change history. I'm old enough to remember being in Maryland and Virginia seeing signs Whites Only and Colored Only on bathrooms and water fountains. That was just the tip of the issues. These books should be read so we remember and don't repeat the evil.

I regret that though the author's proofreading has improved, there were several errors in the last third of this book. That said, the story progressed well and coming from the Chicago area made that chapter very interesting.

One of the best Historical Fiction series around.

The way she writes makes these characters come to life. You feel like you are part of the family. When you are done, you can’t wait till she writes the next book.

Joy is Expected!

Many things happened in this book, but nothing earth shaking. It was more like an additional predictable chapter. I am looking forward to more excitement in the next book.
