BLAY AND QHUINNN!!!!!

Okay, I have to say, this is a book written for the BDB fans. The only reason I enjoyed this so much was because Blay and Qhuinn are my babies and I wanted to see them happy. Do we see them happy? Yes. But we also get 400+ pages of them being really really sad.

This book really explores Blay and Qhuinn and the hurt and heartbreak they've experienced and experience again because of what occurs in this book. We do get a lot of Zsadist in here, which warmed my heart so much. Zsadist is there for Blay and Qhuinn and offers them support and guidance through the grief they experience. I loved seeing so much of Zsadist and we also got so much of Qhuinn's babies and the other children living in the mansion. This was just such a treat because we got to see the characters all just living and interacting with one another.

Did this add anything to the overall series? Not really. The ending did drag a bit, but the reason I just loved reading it so much was because it was just a heartwarming (and sad) look into the lives of our favorite characters. Nothing is added to the overall plot of the series or the new villain in the main books, but it was a nice chance for some characters to heal and find happiness.

This book is really only for fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series who felt that Quinn and Blay got shortchanged on their book. If you meet this criteria, you will love this book. If you don't meet the criteria I listed, you are probably way more sane than those of us who do. Congratulations.

This book takes place over a short timespan and there is a snow storm, a death, a few injuries, and some Zsadism.

True?

That's all I can tell you without spoiling.

This series has deeply disappointed me for the last few years and I'm sorry to say this book is no different. There will be spoilers ahead.

...

...

...

Luhcas dies in this book. Could someone please explain to me what the point was of bringing his character into this series? He has had absolutely no role in the plot whatsoever. He was brought in in Lover at Last, had a couple of scenes in The Shadows when he was feeling suicidal and then the last we saw of him, he was starting the recovery process. I am aware that people can relapse, but there was absolutely no character development, no indication of this in previous books, it's just completely out of the blue. I'd have expected a character arc, to actually see his pov, but it was absent. He dies off page about halfway through the book with no build-up. It just seems to me that Ward killed him off because she didn't know what to do with him, in which case why bring him in to the story at all? And why kill a character off in an optional Christmas special?

This was a real missed opportunity to write about a character living with a disability, something she has done well in the past. Such a shame. There are so many characters in this series that have suffered and undergone beautiful transformation, to be honest this felt like a cop out. I feel like Ward shies away from anything emotional or difficult in her writing lately leaving it feeling flat.

The whole book suffers from telling rather than showing, with many events and conversations being alluded to rather then shown. It results in a complete lack of emotion for me. Really I found the whole story very boring. There was a lot of filler and considering the entire plot revolved around Luhcas's death and Qhuinn and Blay getting mated and nothing else, I think it could have been handled in a short novella rather than a whole book. It just dragged on, with Ward spending pages rehashing the events of previous books to bulk it up. There was no real story.

If you thought The Chosen was the last of Qhuinn behaving like a lunatic, you're surely mistaken as he decides to beat Lassiter to a pulp in this book. That guy has some serious anger issues.

There are several chapters with the pov of a couple of new characters that I couldn't care less about. I hate it when Ward does this. There are so many characters we never see anymore, instead we get to read about people we don't care about.

There are various characters that pop-up in this book but they're a bit like furniture, always in the background, never having much of a substantial role. I miss the days when there was character development and intrigue in the other Brother's lives. A brief check-in and a bit of childish banter is all we get now from the Brothers. Ward seems out of ideas for where to take her characters. Z does have a pov in this story but only for the first half and it basically just goes over his past again, there's no new material. There's also a scene where he sings 'staying alive' at one point, yes really.

As usual all of the characters speak exactly the same, indistinguishable from each other, including the Bastards. Balthazar has dialogue in this book which is completely out of character; he's completely lost the Old Way of speaking. As I've said in other reviews, her characters have lost their originality and become like cardboard. The writing is at an all time-low. Here's an example: 'As Qhuinn zipped up a Mount Everest–worthy parka from his hips to his chinny-chin-chin, he felt like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.' Really?!

Then there's this little gem: 'A swimming pool you could stage Olympic trials in, a pool house that could shelter a family of six, and half a dozen modern sculptures the size of SUVs. All of which were the colors of Lassiter’s collection of zebra tights: Neon pink, acid yellow, kryptonite green.' And this: 'His eyes were glowing yellow, not black like when he was going to go off at someone.' From Qhuinn's pov no less. Apparently Ward has forgotten that Qhuinn is supposed to be colour blind. There are countless examples: 'He looked into Lyric’s beautiful pale green eyes' etc. Where's the continuity?

I'm pretty tired of hearing 'my love' as a term of endearment, it's used for every couple now, pick something else! Ward just can't write romance anymore, this book was just too cheesy at times. Ahem. Like this: "Did I say that out loud? For real? Oopsy. You want to spank me for being a naughty boy? Please? Commmmme onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn." So much of the dialogue felt like it was between two children not grown adults. It's like reading about a bunch of frat boys.

If I'm not mistaken, the entire prologue in this book is straight up copied from the beginning of Lover at Last, so you're paying to read the same material again.

Lastly but not least: The sex scenes are so terribly written, it actually made me cringe. Nothing sexy about it. No mention of lube either. That's gotta hurt.

To conclude: Don't bother. It has very little story and adds nothing to the BDB world save for the death of a side character that felt much like an afterthought. Cheesy dialogue, cringey sex scenes, ridiculous errors and both the first chapter and epilogue from the pov of characters we don't even know. This isn't the same Ward that wrote Lover Awakened that's for sure.

As soon as I heard that JR ward was coming out with a book about Blay and Qhuinn finally having their mating ceremony I put it on every friggin list I had ! This is one of my all time fave couples from the black dagger Brotherhood! Their road to love was full of pain and almost didn't happen. I love how Ward has written a love story that was beautiful with depth of emotion and true honest love. I don't read alot of m/m romance but the one's I do are exceptional. I want what I want from any great romance. I want love and passion that takes your breath away because its so raw and authentic. Those behind closed doors converisons that lovers have after mind blowing sex that was more then about connecting physically but a connecting of the souls where the world could've burned down around them and all that mattered was the love they have between them. This book had me crying on and off because theirs alot going on and my emotions were all over the place. Jr ward's characters feel like family to me, after all these years so when their hurting so am I ! Blay and qhuinn are in it for the long haul so I don't worry about them anymore but Zsadist still raw and in pain from his abuse still cuts me like a knife! I have always hoped that between his mate and daughter that the ghosts of the past would finally be put to rest and would haunt this warrior no more. But what he endured and those who abused him have left such deep scars. I sometimes wonder if all the love in the world would ever be enough to silence the past and honestly if that had happened to any of us I'm sure like zsadist we'd be just as fucked up. JR ward is a unique and fabulous storyteller and this book like every other book in this series is fantastic. Until next time Luv's💗💋

This novella is about Blay and Quinn. There is a personal tragedy but with the help of Zsadist and Lassiter, it ends up hopeful instead of heartbreaking.

It is Christmas time and a blizzard is coming. The brothers all have to stay in and protect their homes from the elements. After the storm, despite close calls, they are all okay except for one.

Besides the main storyline, we also meet two human girls. Their father’s BMW is stuck in the snow and the only way to get it out will be with the help of a tow guy in the form of Quinn. Yet things don’t go the way they should.

I found A Warm Heart in Winter to be quite a tear-jerker in parts. Yet, as I mentioned earlier, it's hopeful too. J. R. Ward is doing a great job at making me love Lassiter more with every book.

I do have one request and it's that I would like to see these two young human girls show up in later books.

Cliffhanger: No

As someone who's been BDB-fatigued this was a nice refresher of sorts, a nice circling back. Why it worked for me is probably because it focused on one of the OG/legacy couples and it felt like a coming home. I used to be a diehard Qhuay fan so to see them finally have their mating ceremony was a nice treat for their fans. I didn't even realize they weren't mated, I thought they already were this whole time. Qhuinn has been on my shit list ever since The Chosen and I didn't think I would be able to look passed my feelings enough to enjoy this but I did. Oh he's still a hot tempered idiot but I'm glad he got the closure he did . And Blay was Blay, perfect as always, if not still a little too quick to forgive Qhuinn for his selfish explosive moments but that's a gripe for another time. The one thing I will say I did feel was a little forced was Zsadist's part in this story. And I say this while completely adoring seeing him again and I ain't even complaining about it! Diehard Z fan right here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ But from context point of view, . That being said, Ward made an excellent point of circling back to how Z is still coping and struggling with his past trauma and how he still has slip up moments. His scenes with Bella and Mary were wonderful example of that. I loved seeing that because it was so consistent and realistic. It was a nice continuation and "check in" of how he's doing. This is what Ward really excels at, she's the strongest when she's writing about her original characters, it's like the back of her hand and you can see it in the writing. I wish this consistency, slow development and depth would happen with her new characters as well.

Lassiter's role in this was also great. I love when we get to see his vulnerable/serious side. I forget about it cause he tends to be used for comedic jokes so much. And please can we finally get our Phury/Cormia baby?!!!! I'M TIRED OF WAITING. I want a revisit.

Even though Qhuinn and Blay are a mated couple living within the Brotherhood mansion, they’ve never gone through the official mating ceremony, nor have they felt the urge to do so given how beautiful their unofficial one was. But Qhuinn is a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and it’s something they all have done. When he faces a life threatening situation and suffers a tragedy, Qhuinn must confront his painful past and family history in order to embrace an unshackled future.

I’d forgotten how ugly Qhuinn’s family was to him before he found the Brotherhood and just how important Blay was to his mental salvation. The fact that he could forgive his blood brother Luchas for his role in running him away from his family speaks volumes about the man. Their relationship is precious and it was heartwarming to see them together, though heavily laden with guilt and forgiveness. But the real heart of the story belongs to Blay and Qhuinn’s relationship, how they express themselves with each other and are co-parenting Qhuinn’s twins. It doesn’t hurt that they are one of my favorites in the series.

The story begins with an unusual interaction that puzzled me until the end of the story where it all makes sense and ties together. I loved the focus on family and those relationships, even beyond Qhuinn & Blay, though theirs is the most compelling. There are some powerful moments involving Zsadist (Z) and Lassiter, the Fallen Angel and successor to the Scribe Virgin, too. It’s a moving story made even more impactful by the exceptional narration of Jim Frangione whose storytelling skills can’t be overemphasized. He just hits the right tones at the right moments so you capture absolutely everything. I will always listen to this series and enjoyed everything about this story!

Audiobook: ***4 Stars***
Story: ***5*** Stars***

It's been 84 years... Ugh, wrong movie, Simone! It's been eight-point-five years since I've read a book in this universe (guess which one! #protipp: I don't count the skim-reading that was book #12) and what can I say? Eight-point-five years and seven-point-five-five-five skipped books later and I still love the whole bunch, especially my favorites Qhuinn and Blay of course... I'm a bit baffled myself at how much, to be honest.

I can't even say it was perfect in every way - probably far from it - so call me sentimental, nostalgic or whatever, but being back in this world gave me all the warm and fuzzies. Loved it!

I wish I could have given this book a higher rating. I love Quinn and Blay, they are among my favorite characters of this series and I loved reading more about them. The same with Zhadist. However, despite the fact that there were moments that I really enjoyed in this story, there were many others that just dragged on and bored me. I am just too impatient for all the descriptions and unnecessary details here.

Overall, is a beautiful story, but still there were things that bothered me:

Firstly, I am confused as to why we are getting a “proper and official” mating ceremony now instead of getting it back when they first got mated in their book. To me they have been “officially” mated since their book, it was a sock to me that apparently it wasn’t a “proper” mating, why did they do it half way the first time then? Makes no sense to me, is this an American thing?

Lastly, I truly think that the character of Luchas has been a great wasted opportunity.
His story could have been deeply emotive and meaningful if explored properly, instead Luchas ended up being utilitarian. Had his situation been explored in previos installments deeply and critically, we would have had a developed and rounded character with an impact of its own in this novela. Instead, he feels superficial and detached, only there to further Quinn’s story, which considering the importance of his situation, it is very disappointing.

The good and the bad ended up in a tie, so 3 stars it is.

P.S.: I feel like this series wants to be progressive and current, but to me it is still pretty old-fashion. Personally, I would like to see actual feminism and self-awareness, as in shown through the characters actions, thoughts and way of living, not just by superficially halfway telling us about it.

*Pre read*

If the 'catastrophic event' means Layla dying then I'm here for it. Otherwise I'm good.

Also, after reading The Chosen and Blood Fury (just the Saxton and Rhun part), I'll say that Blay got the short end of the stick.
Rhun is a waaaaay better lover than Qhuinn. So double thumbs up for Saxton.

*after read*

....

*SPOILERS*

You’ve been warned.

Um, Ward? What the fuck?

Let me sum up this book for ya.

So. There was a storm. Luchas dead (suicide). Qhuinn and Blay had their mating ceremony. Some Zhadist on this too. I think Ward added Z because he is one of the most popular brothers. Cause really there was no reason for him to be a focus on this book too.

Other than that? Nothing else happened! Did this book happened over the course of two weeks? Usually her books cover months sometimes a year or two... but since other than Luchas dying, there was no other significant thing happened in this book. Nothing at all.

ALSO what is up with her writing style during the last books? Putting # (hashtags) and LOL. Umm. These are centuries old vampires yet they talk like my 11 year old sister.

That first sex scene with Blay and Qhuinn was so cringe too. It felt forced and idk.. just didn’t sit right with me. So basically Qhuinn was stabbed during a fight, comes back home, Blay sees him without his shirt on (after surgery) then all Blay could think about was sex? Really????

I’m not sure if I grew up and don’t like this series anymore or Ward just doesn’t have it anymore. If you compare her old books to the recent one, you’ll see a big difference. Like two very different person wrote the books.

A love story like no other!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a tightknit group of men and their family, extended or just a member of the brotherhood. Their connections are intense and their bonds are strengthened through experiences.
Many of the stories are deep and fierce. These men are fighting for the greater good and can be vicious in one moment; emotional and loving the next. Oftentimes you’re literally holding your breath from one page to the next.
In this new release, Ward delivers a story that is raw and intense, bouncing your emotions from profound sadness to extreme delight. This story is a love story and it’s one like none other you have experienced.
Yes, this is a series and through the series, you get to know these people intensely, so I would recommend reading one or two books before this one so that you can appreciate the gift Ward has brought us.
The Black Dagger Brotherhood lives on and it’s truly making a mark in the literary world. Bravo!
Family, reconnecting, sharing joy, and love for each other. That's what Christmas and the holidays are all about. Not everyone comes from a family or a home where that happens for them. Some come from broken desolate places and are only able to find that love in the here-and-now.
A Warm Heart in WinterA Warm Heart in Winter encompasses all that for me. It's a wonderful look into the Brotherhood during the holiday season, but it's also a look into Z and Qhuinn. How the broken can be healed with personal love, yet still have lingering issues that don't just magically disappear. It's real. It's work. It's love.
I cried throughout this read. Its therapy via printed pages. Thank you to J.R. Ward for acknowledging that even with a happily ever after trauma takes time to heal and people are a forever work in progress.
Mixed in the "real" are some beautifully poignant moments that make A Warm Heart in Winter a stand out in the series. Whatever holidays you celebrate, I wish you love.
If you're a BDB fan, you really don't want to miss this novella and why would you when the primary focus is Blay and Qhuinn?
To be fair, while Blay and Qhuinn is the main focus, there is plenty of attention paid to several other characters and it makes the story feel more well rounded.
The story starts off with Qhuinn helping out some human girls and getting into some trouble. It amps up a lot of feelings. It also reveals what a close relationship that is continuing to develop between Qhuinn and Z.
It doesn't help when a huge snowstorm hits and causes some serious havoc at the mansion. It was surprising how much damage was inflicted. Unfortunately, a pretty horrific event also occurred that I was equally surprised about...and saddened.
And I can not mention how badass Wrath is...I LOVE everything he does.
We get to see a more serious side of Lassiter (another surprise). I did love how intertwined everything was. It made the story deeper and more intense.
Z gives Qhuinn the kick he sorely needed and we find out another surprise. I loved how it brought things full circle.
The ending is everything we hoped it would be. And Bitty is the sweetest thing ever!
Well, this one had me swinging back in forth between like and 'Not so Much'.
It was good but not great.
The ending was quite the twist and I really loved that part!
I didn't see that coming till I was close to the end and that I loved.
I've been wondering how Ms. Ward was going to deal with . And this definitely dealt with that. But honestly, it felt like a 'cop out'. Like she couldn't come up with a better solution.
Anyway, there is a Lot of Tears, angst, drama etc. from various characters. Some very sexy steamy scenes. And, my favorite, a very interesting twist or two.
Quite frankly, I think those twist is what really made this worth reading.
And I AM a devout BDB lover. Soooo, I hate to say it, but yep. 3.75 is the best I can give this one.
3'5 Estrellas. No sabía muy bien como calificar a éste relato de la Hermandad. Lo primero porque no lo considero relato corto, tiene la extensión de una novela. Y lo siguiente, porque Qhuinn me ha parecido siempre un grano en el culo.
Sí, Qhuinn nunca se ganó mis simpatías ni le perdoné todo lo que le hizo a Blay. Todos los intentos de Ward por redimirle, darle protagonismo o convertirlo en un héroe, para mí no han funcionado; no puedo con éste personaje.
Pero como tengo un cariño y un ansia muy grande con ésta serie, si quiero continuarla me veo obligada a leerlo. Y me ha gustado sí, la Ward sigue guardándose cosas en la manga, pero también se ha pasado cuatro pueblos con la trama cuando podría haber solucionado una de las historias.
Habiendo pasado tres años y medio desde las redadas de los restrictores y muchas historias de amor dentro de la mansión de la Hermandad, J. R. Ward nos trae "A Warm Heart in Winter", un relato corto (que no es tal relato) para leer en época navideña.
En éste caso el relato está centrado en la pareja favorita de Ward, Qhuinn y Blay (o más bien en su ojito derecho). Dejando algo de historia secundaria para Zsadist (a quien prefiero mil veces).
Aunque hace tiempo que el romance de Qhuinn y Blay tuvo su protagonismo, ha pasado el tiempo y no han tenido una ceremonia de apareamiento. Se está acercando el crudo invierno y parece que es el mejor momento para celebrarlo con toda la Hermandad presente.
Pero algo ocurre durante una nevada atroz, que dejará a todos los personajes aislados y confinados dentro de la mansión de la Hermandad. Una tragedia que nadie preveía, y que alejará a Qhuinn y Blay, en mi opinión sin motivo y para autocompadecerse. Dados los acontecimientos de final del libro, dicha tragedia me ha parecido un desperdicio y Ward podría haberse inventado algo mejor, por eso le bajé nota.
Aún así siempre es un placer volver a leer mi serie favorita. Y cada libro avanza más en el romance de todas las parejas y es maravilloso verlos con todos sus retoños mientras la vida sigue.
Como siempre, el libro me ha dejado con ganas de más, sobre todo con unos de los siguientes protagonistas, Balthazar y... ¿Devina? ¡¡¡¿en serio?!!! ¡¿Qué broma pesada es ésta, Ward?!
This brings back many of the popular characters but I loved that it focused on my true favorites Blay and Quinn, and also Zhadist.
I will admit that I was disappointed in Blay and Quinn's first book, Lover at Last, because I felt their story was overshadowed by so many other stories and characters, and we got more angst than couple time with them. But in this one, I was thrilled to see more of Blay and Quinn and their passion, their bond, and the family they have made together with the twins, Layla, and Xcor. There are challenges and realizations. There are scares, emotional events, regrets, grief, and some fears. And a winter storm has the potential to cause damage. But these two stand by each other even when they are not sure how they can truly help.
I just love these two so much. They are could not be more different in appearance and style, but their connection born of friendship and built on trust, understanding, and love is simply beautiful and passionate. And this book gives them all the respect and support that they are due. I truly felt like this is finally Quinn and Blay's well-deserved happily-ever-after.
And Z will always hold a special place in my heart. He is the brother with the most demons and self-worth issues and I love seeing him with Bella and Nalla. But he is a man (well a vamp) who still struggles at times with those old scars and issues. But he has so much to offer even when he has a hard time seeing it. I enjoyed his contributions to this story so much.
And Lassiter still intrigues, me especially as he is stepping into his new role. And some of his scenes are also so significant. He can bring comic relief, but he also has big responsibilities.
Luchas, Quinn's brother who has been through so much, is also featured.
There are often new characters this author brings in and I spend time trying to figure out how they fit into the big picture. And the ones that were woven into this story that did not seem to truly fit, make sense in the end.
This is no doubt a true BDB book, but with a winter/holiday backdrop. It brings us the characters and multiple points of view (but not too many to overwhelm). There are conflicts and situations that will test the characters and provide opportunities where they will have to work together. There are some surprises and danger. And there is the brotherhood, friendship, and loyalty that this group excels at. But I felt like there were also more opportunities for meaningful conversations, self-actualization, personal growth, and just more emotional content in this one. It also really lets Quinn and Blay shine. It shows the depth of their mate bond and how they are willing to do whatever needed to make the other truly happy.
Circumstances for all of them will never be perfect due to the nature of their existences and threats, but there was a little bit of perfect in this one for sure. It really did touch my heart in so many ways and I finally feel like Quinn and Blay got what they deserved this time. And it also made me love Z and Lassiter even more too.
I've always had a soft spot for Qhuinn and Blay so I could have read 1,000 more pages.
Qhuinn definitely still has the 'act before thinking' gene, but I feel like Blay has really grounded him for the better and I just love them as a couple!
I've always loved Z and his role in this book just confirmed it once again. And Lassiter never disappoints. Two big thumbs up!
I stopped reading this series a few years ago but had to come back cuz Qhuinn is my love. I had low expectations tbh but I ended up really loving this one. Lots of emotions and feelings and it was finally the ending that Blay and Qhuinn should have had in the first place. I absolutely love these two and the added moments with Z and Qhuinn's friendship were equally lovely.
As much as I looove Blay & Qhuinn and was excited about their story (again), this book was a little too sad/depressing and not what I wanted in a holiday BDB book. It’s great if you want an emotional winter read though!
This book (as well as many of the recent BDB releases) have been so disappointing to me. This used to be my favorite series. I have autographed hard copies of the earlier books because I loved them so much. It’s been years since I wanted to own a new BDB book.
After reading this book, I started wondering if maybe I’ve just outgrown the series - like maybe the series has always been like this and I’m the one who changed. So, after finishing this book, I went back to read the first book in the series again (Dark Lover) for comparison. The writing difference was like comparing night and day. Dark Lover is still as awesome as I remembered it, and the new books are like a fast food version of the originals.
So what is so different? The original books were 90% plot and story building with intrigue, mystery, backstory, and lots of characters (human, vampire and lesser) using POVs from each, etc. The sex scenes and romance were also present and important to the story, but it all made sense in the plot and felt like it belonged.
The new books are more like a cheesy porn with a whole lot of melodrama and sentimental drivel and very little story. I’ve started to think that Ward just copies and pastes the sex scenes from one book to the next now because they all seem the same. I skip those parts as soon as they start to have that same cookie cutter feel. The characters are sex obsessed and are often thinking about it, talking about it or making sexual Innuendos if they aren’t actually doing it. They moon over each in a sickly sweet way that just seems like fluffy filler.
This particular book took two of my favorite characters - Qhuinn and Zsadist - and almost ruined them for me. Zsadist, the darkest, most dangerous and most broken vampire in the bunch, was turned into an emotionally sensitive sappy therapist in this installment. I didn’t even recognize him. And Qhuinn was reduced to a lovesick puppy in a cheesy porn.
Additionally, Qhuinn isn’t allowed to mourn a death in his family for even a week before Blaylock takes it personally and thinks their relationship is over. It’s ridiculous. There is really no other plot and no substance to this book at all.
It seems to me like Ward has chosen quantity over quality. She churns out multiple books per year these days, but the quality is nothing like it used to be. It’s so disappointing because I know how good her books can be. I think I’m just going to reread the old books and skip the new ones from now on.
First Impressions
This is a holiday novella (although the length I would consider this a full length novel) and this is where we get a feature of Blay and Qhuinn together and seeing them work towards having their mating ceremony, including some other delights with the brotherhood enjoyed the winter holiday together and I had a BLAST with this book, it was everything I could have hoped for and more. And the ironic thing is I haven’t read their first book (yeah shame on me but I know Qhuinn is an ass in that book haha so I have been putting it off). But I was really intrigued by this one and when I was browsing my libby catalog, I just had a moment where I wanted to read it. I have really neglected this series, I really need to get back to it. I just love this world that this author creates. I have been really intrigued by this one and when I jumped into it I knew that it would be well worth the read and it definitely was. Even if you haven’t read Qhuinn and Blay’s book, I was totally fine as you see them in their HEA and there were some things that I didn’t know about, however, I catch on quickly, so it worked well for me.
Summary
A Warm Heart in Winter, begins with seeing the young pair working on their responsibilities to the brotherhood and the King, we see Qhuinn rescues a pair of girls and get injured, we see his recovery and the way that Blay and Qhuinn’s relationship get pushed to the limits when a tragedy hits the brotherhood but most especially Qhuinn who is having to face the mistakes of the past and what he has lost and seeing Blay be his core of strength. We see the delights and depths to Lassiter, we see a winter storm hit the mansion and the dangers that a simple storm can do to put the people they love at risk, and we see the depths of love Blay and Qhuinn have for each other and how that love will become more solidified through the conflicts that they will have to face and overcome…
What I Loved
There was so much I deeply loved and I will try not to reveal too much as there is a major event that happens in this book that is a primary focual point of the book that really pushes Qhuinn and Blay’s relationship. I will say that I was charmed by the winter holiday scene, I loved seeing all my favorite couples enjoying their HEA and seeing them happy with their mates and children. There is a sense of family and warmth that permeates the story and will win its way into your heart. There is also a gratifying feeling of sewing the way that they support each other and are willing to fight for each other. We see more depths to Zsadist and seeing a different side to him that we haven’t seen much before. I loved him being so honest about his past and struggles and working his way towards healing and reflecting his journey onto another brother that is suffering and needs his firm assistance and making him face up to the pain before it festers. The romance between Blay and Qhuinn is utterly delightful and I just adored seeing them together and really having to work together and face the challenges that need to overcome. I will see that sad part to this story really broke my heart and man this author had me crying BUCKETS …..,the raw emotion that is portrayed so well just spoke straight to my heart. J.R. Ward definitely works her magic on this one and you won’t be disappointed.
What I Struggled With
There wasn’t much honestly…I loved everything about this one…it was sadder though than I expected in moments but the story was such a win and won my heart!
The Narration
This is a great author that narrates the BDB so well, he tends to work great with the paranormal works and I really felt he gave the perfect voice for Blay and Qhuinn especially.
Overall View
This was a great addition to a power-packed series and I fell in love quickly with this installment, it’s packed with edgy thrills, deep riveting emotion, and characters bound to make you fall in love with them all over again.
This still remains my favorite series ... the BDB just resonate with me and tick all the boxes. While I am somewhat old school and love the original team my love for Blay & Qhuinn is strong. This was a beautiful story of redemption, forgiveness and love. If you’re a fan, you’ll certainly enjoy this.
After finishing the book I understand why what happened with Luchas happened, but it still made me sad. I would've liked to see a relationship between him and Qhuinn.
Blay and Qhuinn are one of my favorite couples in this series, although, like many I was very unhappy with the way he behaved in Layla and Xcor's story. Regardless, I love their love story and how they are with each other.
Good story.
