Two brothers.
One running from justice.
The other running from himself.

MARBELLA, SPAIN, 1985. A time of excesses, greed and deceit. A place of corruption, betrayal and violence.

Two brothers cross paths after a decade apart. Eddie Lawson - the Falklands War veteran tormented by his past and desperate for solace. Charlie, his older sibling - a villain on the run, living the high life with the rest of his crew but all too aware that the heavy hand of justice is but one misstep away.

Can the two brothers reconcile their differences and rekindle their childhood bond to save each other from a litany of threats? Or will the dark temptations of The Costa del Crime be the end of them and everyone they care about?

Damian Vargas is an emerging author of action thrillers with a vein of dark humor.

Damian is a self-exiled Brit, living and working in Spain on the Costa del Sol. A child of the 1970s and 1980s, he was brought up on an entertainment diet of intrepid adventure novels, gritty crime dramas, epic war stories, and low-budget British science fiction television.

Experiencing everyday life in southern Spain opened Damian’s eyes to the dark underworld that occurs (mostly) beyond the view of the annual influx of holidaymakers. These regular criminal goings-on’s, coupled with the rich tapestry of life and stunning locations on ‘The Costa del Crime’, sparked a deep desire to write dark and fast-paced action and thriller stories. Six Hard Days in Andalusia was the first of these and was followed by the prequel, Den Of Snakes. These were followed in August 2021 by his new historical suspense thriller, The Dark Place.

His motto is “Wisdom Comes To Those Who Stray”, he has a love for indie/punk rock in dank seedy venues, a fascination with the number 27, and harbors an intense dislike of spiders. He once met Mark Zuckerberg when he was barely even a billionaire, and David Hasselhoff, while dressed up as Ron Burgundy from the film, Anchorman. David was a tad confused by this.

65-2020. I liked the authors first book better, but this has many of the qualities of “Six Days...” I was put off a bit by all the dialogue in slang English, as it made me feel like I was translating all the time. The plot was snappy, though, and the mayhem and action was quick and plentiful. Several twists and turns in the plot, and some surprises. Start with Six Days in Andalucia, and then find your way here.

Fabulous

Den Of Snakes was a fabulously brisk trip through the seedy dark underworld made so fascinating with rich descriptions here.
Quirky characters and stunning scenery make way for rich capers, plot twists and fast action.
I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

After watching Damian Vargas on Luke Richardson’s Books and and Beer You Tube channel I decided to read this and I was not disappointed at all. Lots of exciting twists and turns played out in the beautiful Costa del Sol (or Costa del crime as it was once known). A proper good crime story, plenty of excitement

A fast action packed novel set in the 70s & 80s giving a great illustration of life on the Costa Del Crime as it came to be known.

I would have given this book the full five stars but it is let down a bit by poor proof reading in places.

I thought that this was a good, engaging, light read. The story transported me to the eighties and provided an interesting take on British criminals misbehaving in Spain.

My first read of Vargas. I really enjoyed the novel as it’s about the bad guys having a lot of bad luck. A thriller right to end which I wouldn’t have expected.

Book 69 - Damian Vargas - Den of Snakes

Next free eBook that was sent to me was this gangster tale. A group of British ex-pats trying to go straight on the Costa Del Sol by buying big in the hotel business.

Two brothers..reunited...one adopted...ex military...the other older...former crook trying to put together one last deal that will ensure all the ducking and diving are in the past.

Even if I could ignore the bad language, the whole things reads like a bad Guy Ritchie novel.... stereotypes one and all ...from the brothers-at-odds to the throwing money around to stay one step ahead of the law...it is awful.

The typical shootout towards the end brings about the big ‘twist’ which I saw coming a mile off like a train roaring through a tunnel.

Really really poor...will not be trying any of his other free books...awful.
