As a beginner, Korean sentences might look like random combinations of words and phrases. But that is not true! Once you find the patterns hidden in sentences, learning Korean becomes much easier and even more fun. This book includes 100 common sentence patterns that are essential for beginners and each pattern is accompanied by 11 example sentences. What do we mean by “patterns“? “Patterns” in this book refer to set phrases and common groups of words that often go together in Korean. By studying sentence patterns, you can form your own Korean sentences more confidently and naturally! Here are 5 tips about how to make the most of the book! -Practice speaking the sentences repeatedly so that you can get familiar with each sentence pattern. -Sentences written in Korean are arranged on the left side of a page and those in English are on the right side. We recommend you cover one of the two sides with a piece of paper or your hand and test your understanding! - Study words with the index. - In the index, you can find all the vocabulary words used! In fact, this book is also very useful to study words and practice making sentences with them. - Use the QR codes! - There is a QR code for each pattern with which you can check the native speaker's pronunciation easily. You can of course download all the audio files at talktomeinkorean.com/audio. - The dorky 11th example sentence - Every 11th example sentence is a bonus one which will (hopefully) make you grin while studying. Look at the cute illustration attached to the 11th sentence! How could you not smile?
Really an good companion for anyone starting to learn Korean. For every idiom there are many examples, some of which can really be used in every day life. If you use the TTMIK platform to learn, you will recognize the idioms of the book from the (free!) lessons: the book does in fact build on those lessons and provide more examples, which are great.
Mind, you don't really need to learn all of them. My suggestion is to play the audio file of a lesson, in continuous loop, and walk through the examples, writing some down, maybe learning a couple of new words. Having all the time the authors pronouncing helps a lot understanding it.
Graphically speaking, I like it: the pages are very simple but at the same time, highlight important concepts and words. Nicely colored.
At the beginning of the book there is an introduction to hangul. It is mandatory to be able to read and write in Korean, but you probably need a video lesson on that, as you need to hear it. Still, I love the way they teach you the order of strokes.
Really suggested for beginners, just like all the material from TTMIK.
더 연습하고 싶어요! (I want to practice more!) Ok this one is awesome. It's just what it says it is, and there are QR codes on each page to links of audio for each one and you can hear how it sounds! Also love that this one doesn't have romanization. I'm really trying to practice more on focusing on the 한글 and getting my tongue used to the sounds and the grammar rules! We think it's hard but we forget there are countless words in English where if you step back you're like 'Wait, what?' I applaud anyone who learns English as a second language and I hope if I ever get a chance to talk with a native Korean speaker they will be pleased with my hopefully pretty good pronunciation.
Undoubtedly the best book I've used in my studies so far. Learned more about grammar and usage in the context of vocabulary than studying it alone. I love the TTMIK program!
