One hundred grumpy animals offer up sass, disses, and verbal abuse in this webcomic collection. Some of these pages would make good t-shirts, others are just a bit too corny or on-the-nose.
The adult language makes this picture book unsuitable for children, but if you look around there is a "family friendly" version available.
There are notes in the back to identify the animals and explain the jokes. For example one joke that didn't work for me was "I'm just like you except I'm a little otter," has the note: "Otter sounds like hotter." Fortunately, jokes that don't work are relatively rare here. Unfortunately, the notes are not in the same order as the pages of the book or even in alphabetical order by animal, so good luck finding the explanation when you do want it.
I can’t say enough about how funny this book is. The cartoon drawings of a hundred animals are captioned with the funniest statements. I have four favorites: the stingray, the sloth, the puffer fish, and the donkey.
I can see how some might not recognize some of the animals (I’d never heard of a Quokka before) or understand the caption unless they have a little background knowledge. Not to worry, though; the author included two pages of notes in the back. However, the list isn’t in order of appearance, and some of the explanations repeat the caption.
Nevertheless, this book is still a great pick-me-up when you’re feeling a little stressed.
This is a quick, fun read full of cute illustrations of animals and a lot of laughs. If you like animal memes, enjoy puns, and don't mind swearing, this book is for you.
Also, make sure you check out the "Notes" section at the end of the book; it added some bonus laughs to the illustrations in the book for me.
If you do mind swearing and are thinking about a book for children, try the family version, Grumpy Goose on the Loose. This one is specifically grumpy animals for kids.
This came to me in a pile of children's boox, but it is definitely not for kids. It's pages of single animal cartoons with captions. The one I liked best was a coiled snake: "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands." Unhappily for this reader, most of the captions include either four-letter words and/or very suggestive or explicit text. Very much not to my liking.
An offbeat and fun collection of animal jokes for adults. I'll admit there were a few I didn't get. Fortunately, there are explanatory notes in the back. Unfortunately, they seem to be in random order.
Rather disappointing. At most there is a slight chuckle from one or two. I feel like only the funniest pages are shown online, and then the rest are not very good or interesting.
