Jude Tanner came from a humble background. He couldn't believe he was now the owner of a Thoroughbred racehorse. He obviously hoped his colt would be a contender on the road to the Kentucky Derby, but it still surprised him when it actually happened. It was surreal that his dreams were coming true. There were only a few more races before the Derby, and if Mister Everything did well, he had a shot.
What was even better was that Jude seemed to have found his lady luck. He was smitten with a young woman he met in Louisiana and one hundred percent convinced that she was the one.
Until she ghosted him. They were only together during that one weekend—two days spent getting to know each other. And then she was gone. He thought he'd never see her again, but then he found out that patience was the key.
Brooke St. James is a USA Today bestselling author and Amazon Kindle All-Star. She writes contemporary romance novels with Christian and inspirational themes and happy endings. She was born and raised in south Louisiana but has had the opportunity to travel and live throughout the U.S. An avid reader, writer, audio book addict, and fan of all things artistic, Brooke constantly has her hands in some creative activity. She's currently back home in Louisiana enjoying life with her husband, children, and two lazy dogs.
Team St. James!! I just love her writing style. No matter what her characters do, she always has such fun and interesting information allowing her readers to immerse themselves in her books. I'm so happy we get a book 7!!
More Intense Than Other St. James Books, But Still a Good Read
I've grown accustomed to Brooke St. James' writing: sweet and fast-moving, with occasional errors (3 to 4 per novel), all of which I correct with a Note. Most of the characters fall in love quickly and marry before moving in together, and a subsequent pregnancy or child is the only evidence of the happy couple having what she might call "marital relations" with no indication of problems. In Lost & Found, however, an attempted sexual assault takes place. The woman, Andy, who is intended for the Tanner (Jude) in the Tanner Family series, successfully fights off her attacker (who is too drunk to put up a good fight) but can't bring herself to tell anyone or have any contact with a man, including Jude himself, for a long time. Jude is patient, however, and all's well that ends well, in true St. James style.
I like that St. James stretches her formula to include an attempted crime against a major character and a realistic depiction of her traumatized response. Shutting out everyone who reminds her of her attempted assault is something many victims or near-victims do in the wake of an attack. Of course, one person being shut out is Jude, so St. James returns to form and depicts his frustration with her neglect in a conversation with his wise Uncle Ezekiel (Kiss & Tell),who advises patience based on Scripture. He waits a while, then emails her at work to invite her o the Kentucky Derby, in which his horse , Mister Everything (Me & mister Everything), is running. This being a Brooke St. James novel, guess which horse wins?
I can't say that I "enjoyed" Lost & Found (another puzzling title), but I found it to be absorbing and a fun read. Looking ahead, I want to read the next Tanner Family novel!
(5+ stars) - God writes straight with crooked lines
[POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING: The story contains a scene where a guy tries to force himself on someone - it's written fairly discreetly with minimal detail, but this is to advise any readers who are sensitive or suffering PTSD]
I love Brooke's slice of life romances! Her characters are always so interesting & relatable. This book is certainly no different, though its plot IS a little different, more serious in some respects, yet uplifting not heavy.
Jude meets Andy while on a chartered fishing trip in the Gulf. He is interested in her & invites her to join him and his family at the Louisiana Derby when his horse races. Things are looking really promising when they part, but then something happens & she blows him off.
The story is written so believably. I've been in a similar situation to Andy, though it was just a guy determined to hug & kiss me, not trying for more (yet? who knows what he was thinking), and I had a difficult time getting away from him. It does mess with your head just like that, & I ended up breaking up with my boyfriend of the time, even though he wasn't there when it happened, in part because of how he reacted, & I was feeling so negative on guys in general after that.
So I especially enjoyed Jude & Andy's happily-ever-after because it was like seeing that episode in my life rewritten with a happy ending instead
*Clean romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic beyond trigger warning above *Religion: mention of praying to God for discernment, totally organic to the story
What I like: these books are quick, easy reads that don’t have a lot of drama or common tropes. They are Christian books that incorporate a Christian lifestyle without being preachy about it. I also liked how in this one the MCs spent time on the phone getting to know each other although (all of these conversations were “off camera”)
What I dislike: The third person writing is very stilted and full of manspaining one example, “‘They're big today, J-Bo,’ she said. She was talking to Jacob, and Jude deduced that this must be his nickname.”
I also don’t like the fast paced relationships (in this one they knew each other for 2 days!), and in this one the pacing seemed off. It would have made more sense to have the conflict later on the book the way it was I ended up skimming the end.
I liked it but with the caveat of not being satisfied with the resolution of the assault and especially her brother’s reaction to it. I was so extremely angry with him, and the injustice of how much she suffered after what happened just made my blood boil, but not only does her attacker get off scot free, but her brother gets what? A stern conversation, we can imply? So he tosses her a little apology? How do I know that he’s even begun to understand how wrong he was in his response? The thing is, he’s not even a half-decent brother. Any half-decent brother would at least have enough protectiveness to be infuriated. I was actually more angry at him than the attacker. Because you never know what to expect from a stranger, but from a brother, his behavior was pure betrayal and no less.

All of this author's books are insta love, pretty easy going reads.
Trigger warning (attempted sexual assault)
-Spoiler- . . . . But this one includes a scene where the main female wakes up to a man kissing her. He doesn't stop when she says No to him. She hast to fight him off. She escapes and runs to her brother, who brushes it off because he says his friend was drunk and that he probably thought she was his girlfriend. After that she hides what happened from EVERYONE. Then only tells the main male later on. He seems upset but, then the subject is changed and that's the last we hear about it. I was bothered by this. There was no resolution, no consequences, no accountability. The main female seems to be fine after a few good cries. For those who have experienced something like this..... it is something that stays with them. There needs to be closure, therapy, something... I just couldn't get past this and enjoy the book. This author writes very surface level romances that don't get deep. It's more of a telling so, taking on topics like this, is a bad idea. In my opinion.
I’ve never read a book about horse racing before. I must say I got all caught up in the romance and excitement of it all. I loved seeing Andy go from fishing nature girl to classy hat wearing Derby girl. The story was fun and serious at parts. I totally understood the reasons for her ghosting him. This was a believable story. Very real. A really enjoyable read with a happy ending. Rating: PG, clean and wholesome but includes a violent adult situation.
Jude and Andy meet when he and some friends rent a fishing guide to go fishing. He is in the area for a horse race. They are shocked to see Andy is a girl. They had a good time and click. He invites her to that race. Things happen at her brother 's house after he dropped her off and it gets crazy then. They have a lot of ups and downs but the family is there for him. They end up going to another race. Love this story and the family.
I connected with this story on a personal level. I understood her plight. Yet she worked through it much like I did and moved on with her life. She did not become the victim, she did not become a survivor, she lived her life. I appreciate the pace of this story, giving acknowledgment to the facts yet not dwelling on it as the storyline it's a love story, that's the storyline.
This novel had a lot of up and down moments for me. One moment, I was completely sure I wouldn't keep reading it; but then in the next second, something would grab my attention enough to pull me back in.
The overall story line was impeccable, I just could not stay hooked 100%. Definitely worth the read; however, because in the right hands this novel could be amazing.
I am enjoying this series and this is my favorite book in the series so far. I loved the topic and felt a liking to the characters. The story is believable and things do not always go perfectly for the characters which makes the story authentic. I am always eagerly awaiting Brooke’s next book!
I've read every book by Brooke St. James. I have enjoyed every single one - easily reading them in one sitting. Enjoyable and relatable characters that make the read breeze by.
The horse and Jude are both winners! I always enjoy books by this author. I have really enjoyed all the books about the Tanner family and am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for book seven!
I loved this one! Andy and June were just too cute together! Love this whole series and esp. like that most of the same families are in each one! One more special touch having the strong family bond.
This is a very enjoyable and exciting story about Jude Tanner. This whole family is very interesting and amazing. They have a very good family relationship and depend on God. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I loved this delightful story of a small town Louisiana girl, who meets Jude while acting as the guys fishing guide. Have waiting for Jude's story and it was so good! Left me smiling.
Found by coincidence and found in His great timing. Jude found Andrea (Andy) by rod and reel. Found her again at a winning horse race. Another addition to the Tanner Family saga.
I really, really enjoyed this story. Makes me want to go to the horse races or fishing! These two had awesome chemistry and this is a really sweet, clean romance.
Trying to figure out what to day. It seems rushed in a eay, not sure it holds up to the power of the previous books. On one hand it's a good book but than something is off.
