When Alric sets out to uncover the truth about his past, he never expects the world to answer back with magic, monsters, and nightmares brought to life. Thrust into a realm where legends breathe and danger lurks in every shadow, he encounters creatures he was never meant to believe in—and secrets his family tried to bury.
As dark forces close in and his demon-possessed cousin stands in his path, Alric is forced to fight not only for survival, but for his soul. With a family legacy steeped in corruption and bloodshed, the line between good and evil blurs—and choosing a side may cost him everything.
The Tales of Elhaanai is a thrilling young adult fantasy packed with relentless action, sweeping adventure, and devastating twists. Winner of the 2022 New York State Indie Author Project, this epic tale will drag you into its world—and refuse to let go until the final page.
It could be said Nicole Thomas was born with a book in her hand. Reading has always been her favorite pastime, whether a physical copy or an eBook, she is never far from a current read. That love led to her creating a world where anything is possible with enough faith.
This twisty fantasy tale dove right into the action and never stopped with the curveballs. Queen Devona (all sorts of evil) kills her own brother and sends an assassin after her sister in law, Alanna, who is pregnant with his heir. But when Alana manages to find Wleia in time and perform a spell to switch the soul of her baby in the womb with one who had been lost, she foils the plan. (Cool twist!) Alric and Elainea are born with magical gifts. One is the future prince of Elhanaai. This epic tale had a little bit of everything. Court politics, twisted spells, a determined captain of the guard, manipulations and poison attempts… the twists keep coming and wow does it ever go out on a bang. Bring me book two!
Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.
Alone after her husband has been killed, pregnant High Priestess and Queen of Elhaanai, Alanna Bear-Claw is pursued by her evil sister-in-law who wants to be Queen and her son to be the heir. Running for her life she is cornered by men who have been sent to kill her. She is shot with an arrow and left to bleed out. But she is determined to save her unborn child’s life.
In a state and bleeding, she comes across a widow, Wleia who is pregnant with twins and asks for her help. Alanna can see things others can’t and she can see that the woman has lost one of her unborn children. She asks the woman if she can perform a magical ritual that will swap the dead child for her unborn son who is the true heir to the kingdom. However, in doing so she knows that this will kill her.
Sixteen years later Wleia has to tell her son, Alric that he is not her real child and that he is the heir to Elhaanai and the act that his mother did to save him. She also gives him instructions that were left for him for when he turns sixteen on how to take back his kingdom, though his ‘twin’ sister Elainea will have to play a part in securing his true heritage too.
Tales of Elhaanai is a mystical, fantasy novel that had hints of Games of Thrones with the setting, family rivalries, and bitter battles.
The book opens with Alanna being cornered by the men who have been sent to kill her, then it moves back six months, and then it jumps forward sixteen years. This was all done in a short period of time and I would have liked to have explored Alanna’s life with her husband and his murder more than it was.
The world-building was hit and miss. Parts were done amazing and came across strong, such as when Alric sets off to take back his throne, whilst others especially at the beginning it was hard to get a sense of where and when the book was set.
The ‘twins’ Prince Alric and Elainea for me held the story, being brought up together, with little money and away from prying eyes the pair worked well together and learning to use their magical gifts which come to them when they are sixteen.
If you like fantasy books which include jealousy, rivalry, revenge, and coming of age then this book is perfect for you.
First of all, I received this book from the author for free in exchange for an honest review! Thank you so much! Ok, I mean. Holy Cow. This book deserves like, a hundred stars, not just five! I loved it so so much. It was a masterfully written tale, fusing together a Lord of The Rings-like journey with Marvel-esque superpowers and a Christ-like redemption story. This book was written flawlessly, it is definitely one of my top five favorite books ever. And don't even get me started on the cliffhanger, ok? My jaw LITERALLY dropped when I read it, and I was like OMG WHAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!! Anyway, please, please read this book, it was truly amazing! I don't gravitate toward the fantasy genre, but this cover hooked me right away. Once I started reading, it was hard to put down. I loved the story from the beginning. From the eerie prologue-esque feeling of Chapters One through Three that opened the door to the story of Alric and Elainea, to Akronius's redemptive arc and the baptism scene. (A powerful and incredibly descriptive moment in the story that kind of took my breath away.) The villains were perfectly villainous, but at the same time I found myself pitying them, which I think is the mark of a writer who knows her characters well. And I loved the faith message -- the deeply rooted certainty in the main characters' spirits that they were fighting for more than themselves. Well done, Nicole. I look forward to reading more!
Power, betrayal, intrigue and magic, all in a quest to reclaim a kingdom, complete with twists and a lot of backstabbing ASOIAF style.
For a mere 130 pages, Tales of Elhaanai manages to deliver all the above mentioned and more.
It starts with a bang and keeps on moving, at a very fast pace, plunging the reader into a highly entertaining and practically unputdownable tale.
'The desire for power is the root of all evil and betrayal is the currency to get and keep it, by any means necessary. The one with the most strength and faith, be they good or evil, will be the victor. Join Alric and his family as they walk the path to destiny.'
High Priestess and Queen of Elhaanai, Alanna Bear-Claw dies while trying to save her unborn son, Aldric. More exactly, she dies while performing a magical spell that swaps her unborn son with the dead unborn child in the womb of another woman. And 16 years later, that woman will confess to a child she grew as her own, that he is not only the son of another, but also the rightful heir of an usurped throne. That is how Aldric's journey will start, on a quest alongside his family. To not only reclaim a throne but also become the hero he was meant to be.
The plot is downright fabulous. The magic is intriguing and the themes are great. I never saw lots of the twist coming and that end was awesome with a capital A. I absolutely loved all of these!
Then why a 3 star you ask? Because of the execution. The wordbuilding is confusing at times and very sparse at others. Both background and setting are not quite enough to allow the reader a proper understanding of world and whereabouts. And the POV shifts are not always clear. All this could be due to the shorter page count and fast pace, as well as the larger amount of characters we get to meet, but it does detract from the tale.
All in all, Tales of Elhaanai is a fast paced action filled adventure that may appeal to any YA fan out there. And I'm looking forward to the sequel.

*Huge thanks to the author for the review copy. All thoughts are my own.*
Oh where to start! Tales of Elhaanai is a fantastic beginning to an adult fantasy series that I'll be definitely following! The story gripped me from the first pages to the point that I finished in one sitting (which I haven't done in quite a while!).
First of all, the author is an amazing storyteller. She manages to immediately pull you into a fast paced story full of plot twists, kingdoms, magic, quests, adventure, and basically everything I love about fantasy books. And then the CHARACTERS! From Alanna Bear Claw to King Kaison, I was intrigued by every single one of them.
Speaking of characters, when I started reading Tales of Elhaanai, I thought it would only focus on Alric (the hero of this story), but we get to hang around with so many of them. One of my favorites is Wleia (Alric's mom) since she is wise & fierceless, I just really liked her! Devona was also another character I enjoyed reading about, her evilness had no end and she's the true embodiment of a classic villain.
Tales of Elhanaai is well worth the read. And though it is a comparatively short read, it carries a big world I cannot wait to explore. ✨
This is a short book and a quick read with an atmosphere reminiscent of fairy tales. Tales of Elhaanai begins with action and the plot never slows down, propelling the reader forward. Pregnant Queen Alaana is dying from wounds sustained as she escapes a coup staged by her sister-in-law. When a stranger comes to her aid, Alaana realizes an answer to her prayers; one of the twins the women carries has died in the womb. Alaana can save the son still in her womb by switching him with the dead son the woman carries.
Sixteen years later the woman, Wleia, shares the truth of his identity with Alaana’s son Alaric and his “twin sister” Elainea. Since they are each strong in different magics, they are eventually, sent on a journey to the Oracle Shama so he can teach them how to use their gifts.
A second plot line revolves around the man who killed Alaana, Akronius, who has a life-changing experience and becomes instrumental in the twins’ pursuit of Alaric’s birth right.
I enjoyed the quick pacing of the story but thought the characters could have profited from a slightly slower pace to allow them some time to develop. The twins go to Shama to be trained in their gifts but soon after Akronius arrives, they leave Shama to travel back home with no real evidence any training had taken place.
The “evil” characters are compellingly evil, with all betraying and plotting against one another, while they grow as pawns of an unnamed evil.
Ms. Thomas tends to take her readers into everyone’s head so be prepared for some head hopping. But if you like stories of light versus darkness in worlds filled with magic, with clear cut heroes and villains, Tales of Elhaanai will delight you.
Wow! Tales of Elhaanai does not disappoint! Thomas weaves an intricate story of betrayal, suspense, fantasy and magic. From the beginning I was drawn into the Alaric's story. All of the characters in this tale pulled great emotion from me as I read. The fierceness of a mothers love. The anger at betrayal by family members, and the wonder for someone who has changed their ways to help others. I felt all of those and more and cannot wait to read the rest of the series. This is a beautifully written book and I highly recommend!
I thought this was an enjoyable, sci-fi, Christian, and lovable book. The world of Elhaanai is a place the characters are built upon and I liked how there were a few Christian references intertwined into a sci-fi story. I am looking forward to the sequel to see where the siblings wind up and how they prevail.
The fantasy lover in me absolutely adored this book! What a creative and engaging story. The author draws you in from the first page with ominous and gripping words as one of the main characters, Alanna, struggles with her eminent death. Alanna is pregnant and carrying the kingdom's heir but her sister-in-law, Devona, already has a son and is determined he become king. If you're catching major Game of Thrones vibes here, you're spot on!
The story progresses with a really intense transfer of life (loved this scene!) and twins are born possessing magical powers. Could one of the twins, Alric, be the long lost heir? Will he be able to claim his throne? The characters in this book are all well-developed. Wleia is the unsung hero in my mind, and braver than all. There are elements of magic thrown in between the twists and betrayal. Just a fantastic story overall and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
Nicole Thomas brings us a short fantasy novel with lots of twists and turns. The story follows Alric and Elainea, "twins" even though they have different mothers thanks to a magic spell performed before they were born. Alric is the heir of the throne of Elhaanai but he doesn't find out until the age of 16, when his birth mother tells him the truth about his origins and sends him and Elainea on a quest to claim what is rightfully his. Together with his sister, they also learn to control their magic gifts. I enjoyed the extensive use of magic in the novel and the poetic tone of the writer. The ending leaves a few open ends which will probably be clarified in the sequel, The Prophecy.
This book grabs you from the first sentence and never lets you go. It is fast paced and filled with action, character development, politics for Power of the Thrones, back-stabbing, abilities beyond belief, dark wizardry, twists, shocks and also…faith. Faith is a central theme to this story. Who has it. Who doesn’t have it. Woven into the tapestry of everyone and everything. You cannot read this without feeling some of the author’s own faith being incorporated into this world and characters.
Nicole Thomas does an amazing job in never letting you get lost with too many characters like the Game of Thrones series. She leaves you guessing at every turn. And it is so entertaining. And the book ends where you are just begging for more. I rate this book a full 5 Stars and can’t imagine anyone who enjoys the Fantasy genre not enjoying this book. I will be waiting anxiously for the next book from this wonderful author.
I think I need to start taking more time in learning about a book before reading it. This is like the third time I read a book, only to find out it had an open end. Thankfully the next one is supposed to be released at the end of this month. It was a great story and kept me reading and captivated. I look forward to the sequel. It is a great fantasy story with characters to love and characters to hate and a twist at the end that you don’t exactly see coming. Well done!
This is a fabulous tale filled with treachery, friendship, faith, humility... It's dark and it's light at the same time. Parts will make you cringe, smile, and even tear up. Author Nicole is brilliant!
If you love tales of King's, magic, and good vs evil, this well thought out story is just what you need.
Tales Of Elhaanai is a captivating fantasy with elements of dark fantasy, which helps illustrate the fight between light and darkness which the book focuses on. The story was so intricate and well told. It drew me in from the start and held my attention the whole way through. The characters were compelling as well. I became totally invested in each of their rolls and individual stories, even that of the antagonists. I loved reading the way they evolved and progressed, whether for the better or the worse. The magic system was well crafted too. I liked how magic was viewed as gifts and how it could be unlocked at the right time and shared between multiple people and beings. I loved the Biblical and faith elements interwoven throughout the tale. They aren't things that are very common in modern fiction. It was refreshing to see and beautifully done. The ending completely surprised me and left me wanting to read more. I'm afraid to jump into book two, though, because if this book ended on such twist and a cliffhanger, I'm not sure it would be safe to start the next book until the third one is out!
Needless to say, I enjoyed this book a lot and am looking forward to returning to the world of Elhaanai!
It was a gripping read. Once I caught the rhythm of the story I was hooked. It was full of adventure, love, sacrifice and betrayal. Phenomenal characters Wleia, Devona, Alric, Elainea, David, Akronius and many more. I enjoyed it.
I was given a reader copy of this book to review. This is a beautiful, descriptive story that grabs you right from the first page. 5/5 stars. Wow, just a beautifully written book!
OK, I have to confess up front that my perception of this book underwent a total change just minutes before sitting down to write this review! I’ll tell you why in a moment…
First let me say what I was going to say. This is a delightful fantasy tale of two youngsters blessed with special gifts who set out to reclaim a throne. The plot is well worked out, with nail-biting twists and turns, unexpected developments, and a fascinating cliffhanger at the end. The characters are distinctive and well portrayed, both ‘good’ and ‘bad’—and (an important criterion for me) they can and do change as the story progresses. I particularly liked how one bad character undergoes a transformation en route, discovering the love of the One and having his entire role in the story reversed.
On the fantasy front there’s a carefully developed system of paranormal ‘gifts’ or abilities that certain people have, which goes beyond the well-worn stereotypes. The world-building, however, is minimal; the action takes place in what I would call a generic medieval fantasy world. But from a Christian standpoint there are constant reminders of Biblical truth both in the dialogue and the plot, without intrusive sermonising or theologising. And there is an overall warmth to the book’s atmosphere, despite the unavoidable dark scenes where the evil opposition plans and implements its strategies.
Right. So what was this revelation that changed my whole perception of the book? Basically it was the discovery, after checking the details on Amazon and Goodreads, that this is not, as I had assumed, a children’s or young teenagers’ book. No age range is given in the description, so I have to assume the target audience includes adults as well.
That immediately cancelled all the allowances I had been making as I read the story. The rapid jumping from one scene to another. The overt descriptions of people’s characters and motivations (‘telling’ rather than ‘showing’). The way action was frequently preferred to reflection. The brevity of description when one action sequence rapidly followed another, and the absence of the more extended explanations for what was being done that one would expect in an adult novel. All of the above would be perfectly acceptable in a children’s or young teenagers’ story; but not in a book intended for more mature readers.
As a children’s story I would have given this five stars. But as an adult novel my immediate reaction was that it doesn’t rate more than three. However, on further reflection I’ve decided that since the target audience is not restricted but includes both children and adults, it would not be fair to rate it strictly as an adult novel. I have therefore split the difference and given it four stars.
I can nevertheless wholeheartedly recommend this book for children and younger teenagers who enjoy fantasy fiction with plenty of action, warmth, and a strong Christian worldview!
A thrilling, adventurous, and fast paced fantasy. Get ready to take a ride!
The book starts off at a fast clip, and doesn't slow down at all. We meet Alanna Bear-Claw, Queen of Elhaanai, as she's literally running for her life, pregnant with an unborn son, who is meant to be the heir of the throne. We find out that her husband, King Kaison, was killed, and Alanna is being chased to her death due to the evil sister-in-law who is bound and determined to let her son rise to the throne.
The story then proceeds to fill you in briefly about what's going on, and what's next. We meet Wleia, who happens upon Alanna in her final moments, and we see magic take place as Alanna transitions into death. Wleia has now been put onto a mission, and she has to help prepare the heir of the throne to reclaim what's been stolen.
Born as a twin, Alric and his twin sister Elainea go on a quest to find out how Alric can reclaim his throne, and seek to refine their magical powers so that they will be prepared for whatever battle that comes their way. In their quest, he meets Akronius who was initially sent to kill Alric, but after a turn of events, the three of them, plus a wolf pup, face incredible obstacles into reclaiming the kingdom of Elhaanai. All sorts of dark magic awaits them, including Lady Devona, the evil sister-in-law (Aunt) of Alric, and her ever increasingly menacing son, King David.
The plot of the story is very good, but I got a lot of Children of Blood and Bone and Children of Virtue and Vengeance vibes from this. Seeing that this is a fantasy book, the level of detail, world building, and character development is very scant. Fantasy books in itself is heavy in detail, where you can place yourself right in the adventure, tasting, touching, seeing, experiencing the whole fantasy world with the characters. This fantasy novel does not allow the reader to be really immersed in the storyline because its too short and much is not explained, like the magic system, and there are so many details that are not available that it detracts from the story.
Although I am looking forward to the next installment of this novel, I hope that the next book fills in the details that were missing in the first book. However, I will say that I did not want to put this book down, but I had so many questions and so many details were not filled in that it took away from the enjoyment I had while reading. Overall, I rate this book a 3.5.
Thank you to the author Nicole Patrice Thomas for gifting me a copy of her book in exchange for a fair and honest opinion.
A powerful priestess queen and her king husband have been betrayed by their own family. Darkness descends upon Elhaanai.
A spell is cast, an unborn heir is hidden, an epic journey unfolds.
Lady Devona, cunning and ambitious, must force her only son to become the man she needs to him to be, to assume the throne she stole, and she will use any means necessary. Even if she must rely on darkness to do so. But her greed may just be her undoing.
Wleia has watched them grow, these twins blessed by The One, and now she must face what all mothers must; their leaving. The twins must seek the Oracle, explore their gifts, and come to rely upon one another to survive.
Akronius. Vicious soldier, wielded by Lady Devona as her most powerful weapon. Commanded to track and kill the rightful heir, finds his way to a small farm, and a motherly woman welcoming him. It is in this atmosphere that change begins to seep into his soul, light breaking apart the darkness that has so long gripped him. Akronius must return to his Mistress empty handed, thus forfeiting his one life. But Devona holds power no longer, and evil stalks the castles shadows.
Nicole Thomas has written a strong breakout fantasy, and one which I am positive I’ll be revisiting. I particularly loved the wisdom of Wleia, and the fact that Thomas did not treat a motherly figure as a means to an end, but rather made her a large part of the story. Akronius is, by far, my favorite character, and I *may* have shed a tear at his salvation. We are all a little bit of Akronius, we all need The One to deliver our burdened souls. I enjoyed the journey of the twins, the side characters I have not mentioned (oh my goodness, that mountain collapse scene...!), and the little bit of world building that could be caught between the lines of an epic fantasy.
4.5 stars from me. I would LOVE to see more of the world building, character development and the exploration of the magic system & the dichotomy of good & evil. (Though I fully realize this would make a short fantasy book substantially longer.)
Thank you to the author, for writing a new favorite book.
(This book was purchased by the reviewer and reflects my own honest thoughts and opinions.)

It's raining where I live, I'm sitting in my balcony with a cup of tea writing this review and hearing the clash of the clouds which reminds me of a very specific scene from this book. Relax! I'm not giving away the best scene because the book ends on a cliffhanger. I'm miserable because I can't know what happened. So, if I am going down, I am taking you guys with me! Drama! _______ The book is about a false Queen desperate to rule. A lust for power that could destroy the entire kingdom. An ancient evil is spreading, moving behind the scenes and Alric is running out of time to stop it. Using dark magic in an attempt to take control of the throne, Devona, the kings sister is caught in her own snare when a spell results in more than she can handle and her own son pays the price. ________ The book Tales of Elhaania is my favourite now. This book is so much more than what I expected it to be, from the cover to the plot, the character development, the scene setup and every little thing about this book is just perfect. Soon when my mind was engrossed and I started to pace with the book a sudden twist just blew my mind. Then, there were twist and turns after every 3-4 pages which were making me go crazy. I no longer have nails! Every now and then my mind used to go " wait, what! Really?! I didn't see that coming!". This proves that the plot is well put together which is why I was able to sail smoothly throughout. Coming to talk about the characters, they are all well shaped. My personal favourite is the wolf. The book made me learn so many things but above all, how powerful jealousy can be and how it can make you betray your own blood. _______ All in all the, the journey of me reading this wonderful book was worth and it deserved a place on my favourites section of my bookshelf. One shouldn't just pass on such a book. I highly recommend you Tales of Elhaania.
Book Name: Tales Of Elhaanai Author: Nicole Patrice Thomas Genre: Fantasy Fiction
This is a story of a jealous power hungry sister who conspires to overthrow and eliminate her King brother Kaison, his wife Alanna and their unborn child to ensure the power remains with her and her son David. The kingdom of Elhaanai witnesses the most gruesome tale of betrayal, magical powers. Conspiracies , repentance and absolution.
Devona the sister of the King Kaisan captures him and orders the soldiers to kill Alanna . She is chased by the soldiers and before she can use her powers to shield herself from their arrows, she is hit by one. Assuming she is dead, soldiers leave but she survives only to ensure her unborn son will live on. She finds refuge in a nearby village and a women named Wleia comes to her rescue. Wleia brings up the heir to throne ” prince Alric” along with her own daughter ” Elainea” as siblings. The siblings have magical power but they need to hone their skills further to usurp the thrown in good time.
An exceptionally well written story of good vs. evil, this an engrossing read. I was totally consumed by the story. I am in love with all the characters of this book but the siblings, Akronius and Wleia really touch your heart, not to forget the wolf. In fact all the characters remain with you even when you are done reading. It isn’t only the story that’s captivating but the writing is absolutely astounding. It is just impossible to believe that this is the author’s first book. I am totally taken by surprise and in a very good way.
Highly, recommended!! An absolutely beautiful book, like a breath of fresh air.
I love the mythology and magic incorporated into this story. In many ways, it is reminiscent of Star Wars and the Jedi while maintaining a Christian identify for those who have the eyes to see it. With themes of sacrifice, love, and obedience this story will be enjoyed by families with middle grade to middle school readers.
For the author, I have two points if criticism for this fantasy. While the names of the characters work for the genre, half of the names begin with “A” and sound far too similar to each other. Younger readers, I am sure, will have a hard time keeping track if who is who. I found myself getting confused, especially between Akronius and Alcherist. The second point of criticism is length. As a fantasy novel, the work could have done deeper in world and character development. The lore, I think, works, but the evil characters need more motivation power. I wonder what in their past got them to this point.
Time is also an issue in this story. On some level, it feels like weeks for the Alric and Elainea adventure, yet during that time a lot happened in the greater world to give me the impression that this could easily have been months, if not years. In other words, keeping with the Star Wars parallel, Luke’s time with Yoda on Dagobah clearly takes a long time. We see his struggles with the dark side and mastering his powers. I wish I could have seen that with Alric and Elainea with their training. It felt glossed over.
Nonetheless, this is clearly a book intended for a younger audience. I would lean more toward a 4 1/2, rather than a 5 for the reasons I mentioned. Still, this is a very engaging and imaginative story and I look forward to reading more, especially with that cliff hanger!
Tales of Elhaanai by Nicole Patrice Thomas is the start of a fantasy adventure series where greed and corruption have taken hold of a realm through the use of dark and powerful magic.
A baby is switched at birth and a corrupt queen takes over the reign of Elhaanai through the use of dark forces. Devona however finds that through her own greed and misuse of dark magic her wish for a stronger son backfires on her.
Alric always assumed he was a normal boy, with a mother who loved him and a twin who annoyed and teased him. When the siblings come of age they learn the truth of his parentage and what they must do to bring light back into the darkness of the realm.
With the help of a powerful oracle and a man who has a change of heart can the reign of Devona be overthrown and the kingdom be returned to its rightful heir?
This is a short, faced paced story told from multiple perspectives. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author told this story and how the cliffhanger leaves the book wide open for the continuation of the series. Be careful what you wish for comes to mind for many aspects of this story. Greed is a powerful force that only seems to lead to misery and kindness, love and true devotion can turn even the coldest hearts to goodness.
I’d highly recommend this story to those who enjoy fantasy, magic, good versus evil and a story told over a series of books. I am eager to see what comes next in this fantasy adventure.
I saw the cover to this book on Instagram and I was instantly intrigued. Reading more about it I saw it was definitely one I wanted to give a go. This is a tale of good and evil, of the powers of light and the powers of darkness. Devona starts out as the puppet master who kicks off the domino effect of evil that will travel through the kingdom with the murder of the king (her brother) and his queen. Thomas intertwines her own faith and a bit of fantasy to take us on this mysterious adventure where the control of evil is constantly changing hands. For me this showed that doing what was so obviously wrong to get ahead could cost you more than you more than you imagined. I have no doubts that Devona told herself a hundred times she should never have put into motion all the evil she unleashed, because she was better off when she was just the kings sister. We watch as (Prince) Alric and his sister Elainea discover their own power and learn the truth of their birth. Which is a mystery you will find out when you read the book! One of my favorite characters was Akronius, the man covered in the blood of his sins. Seeing a change in such a monstrous character was a nice thing to see. It shows there is hope for anyone who is willing to admit wrong and change. There is a huge twist at the end making the second a must read!
I received this book for an honest review for an author. Thank you!
Tales of Elhaanai is the first book in series, The Elhaanai. Tales of Elhaanai by Nicole Thomas is a story about magic, secrets, betrayals, family, and redemption. Tales of Elhaanai begins with a betrayal, a jealous sister who wants the thrown and for that, she kills her own brother and she wants to kill her sister-in-law, Alanna who was pregnant and carrying the kingdom’s heir. But Alanna, with her magical powers, managed to save her unborn child Alaric and to let him in good hands with Wleia.
Alaric and Elaina, the daughter of Wleia, grown-up as twins and they were a real family and their bound was strong and beautiful. After their sixteen birthday, they found out that Alaric isn’t really her brother and he is the prince of Elhaanai. Alaric decided to usurp the throne and for that, they need to learn more about their powers and for that, they began their journey.
Tales of Elhaanai was a great fantasy. My favorite character was Wleia, because she was kind and she was a great mother for her children. I liked the relationship between Elaina and Alaric. Tales of Elhaanai by Nicole Thomes is easy to read and engaging.
It takes a lot for a fiction book to grab my attention because I'm so used to reading non-fiction these days that if I'm going to "escape", I need the escape to be worth it. NICOLE DELIVERED FROM PAGE 1!!!!! She captured my attention from the very first chapter of this book! I am normally the kind of person who will read a chapter or two each day, but I couldn't put this down. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next! Her descriptive writing makes you feel like you're right there with each character, living in the moment, experiencing the danger and suspense. The contrast between good and evil is absolutely phenomenal, and the reality of betrayal from the ones closest to us is something everyone can relate to in some way. As I read the book, I imagined what it would be like to see this on a movie screen. :-) The suspense of waiting to see what happens next is too much... I can't wait for the next book!!!!!!!
Summary: The storyline revolves around Kaison who is a king, married to Alanna and they are soon expecting. Evil sister of Kaison doesn't want his child to conquer, she is evil and dreadly! He had the crown she wanted, she had the heir. Both were willing to give their all for what they wanted. Neither could have predicted the outcome.
My Opinion: I picked this book because I wad so much intrigued by the cover and title. This is a fast paced story of power and evil mind. I got to know about the powerful Elhaanai, a place that's dark and magical, after each and every page, the storyline gets more intense and darker. Honestly, the way tension starts building between the characters, the way things merge into one and when things start making more sense, it's when I realized the purpose of the book and storyline, it's much more deep and unique than I thought. It's a very fast paced read and I'm sure it's a book you haven't read before, it's a must try on read. Please note, it's not a usual typical historical - fantasy read, it's so much more than that.
Good and Bad: I liked the idea of the story, the central theme is amazing and I loved how intense and entertaining it is from thr very first page till the last one!
My favorites from the book:
For me, best part is the writing and concept, I liked the idea and the author's imagination skills to make things appear dramatically yet natural. It's so adventurous.
Target Audience: Curious readers will love it so much.
What to expect: Drama, adventure and thrill.
Final verdict: It's a multi genre book which is meant for all, go for it.
I am rendered speechless. I do not have words to express how wonderful this story is. It pulls you in with it’s tragedies from the start, but leaves a glimmer of hope that blooms throughout the rest of the way and then leaves you waiting for more. I need to see how this story ends and will be checking to see if it is already written! The villains are spectacular and east to hate, and the redemption of Akronius is inspiring and emotional. I also enjoyed seeing Devona’s end. As for, Alric, Elaenia, and Wleia, what can I say, I was completely swept off my feet. There is so much fantasy and spirituality here. The one negative I have is that the cover does not do it justice. I loved this and 100% recommend.
