I was curious about this series so I picked up the prequel novella. I thought this novella worked well to give a feel for the main character, side character and the world. And at the same time it just wasn't really gripping me. I didn't really feel like I got a good feel for who the main character was even though I understood her role in this world and the type of work she did.
Her interactions with Zev felt pretty typical and I didn't really liked how he sort of forced her to work together. She didn't have as much initiative and control over the situation and I wanted to see more of what type of person she was and what she does stand up for and care about. Maybe the first book is more compelling as it's a longer story, but I am not sure sure if I want to give it a try as this prequel didn't really convince me. I did like the unique types of magic we saw in in this book, so the world building has promise
When I read the first volume of the series, I felt like I was missing something. I understand better now. I strongly recommend you to get into this volume 0.5 before starting the series.
Rory has a new job: transporting a shipment from point A to point B. But it’s a shady job and she doesn’t know exactly what she’ll be doing. But the pay is good and she can pay off her debt and finally be free. When she discovers what’s in her safe, she’s faced with a choice: do the right thing or finish the mission and get the money back.
It’s also in this volume that our heroine meets Zev, this sexy man I can’t wait to find out more about! This little story is a good introduction to the series and I can’t wait to read volume 2 now!
This is a good jump off to a new series. I still want to know more about these two main characters and this world and back story, but I’ve read this author before, and she always delivers. This was a shorter novella that introduces the character of Rory and Zev. Rory is a transporter of Arcane/Magical items and the magic we’ve seen Rory wield so far is mostly defensive. I am looking forward to how this series and characters develop. This is an action packed novella, with the attempted kidnapping of a kid and quite a bit of violence, but not overly gory. The author achieved her goal with getting this series on my must read list. Great start.
A very interesting and enjoyable read. Magic to the fore whether controlled by the 'Guild' or off the grid. A cleverly crafted story with a number of completely different characters including the heroine who does jobs for hire as required by her Guild masters. Quite a gripping storyline with twists and turns surrounding the safety of one boy who appears to be a gifted soul but is wanted by each side for his potential. It is a prequel novella for the main series and the continuing story should make for very interesting read.
It’s a quick novella, but sets the background for the Transporter series. Action packed, but the characters’ personalities are already coming clear. Well written.
This book is heavy on action. Along the way, it gives us a snapshot of the MC's character. We also get a fragmentary introduction to the world she inhabits. Both are interesting enough that I want to ride along with her. On to book 1.
