The Omega War is over, but conflict continues. The Peacemaker-enforced ceasefire brought an end to the hostilities, but the Mercenary Guild’s moratorium on new contracts has given the other guilds time—and freedom—to redress long-standing grievances. It has also led to a mindset of “while the cat’s away, the mice will play,” and many are taking liberties they would have not normally. On Earth, the Golden Horde continues to rebuild, because Sansar Enkh has a good idea of what’s coming. In addition to rebuilding her forces, she knows the Humans will need all the advanced tech they can get their hands on, so she sends Captain Markus “Spartan” Nicolos to search the home world of the SalSha for remnants of Kahraman tech. The mission is a two-pronged one, as the SalSha leader Thorb needs to return to the world of his birth to recruit new pilots for his war-depleted bomber wing. He also needs to stop along the way at Capital Planet in hopes of getting the SalSha recognized as a mercenary race. Nothing is as it seems, though, and forces are jockeying in the shadows for power, through all means possible—both legal and not. The team of Spartan and Thorb leave Earth heavily armed and armored…but will it be enough?

Spartan is back! We left Spartan in possession of a nifty little fleet and now we enjoy him live again, having arrived on Earth and dealing with Sansar, explaining to her who was crewing the new horde ships.. At the same time, we have Thorb, who tries to get the Salsha recognized as a mercenary race and not only a client race of humanity and who is planning to relocate part of his race on Earth. And both come together as Sansar sends them where all began (see the Golden Horde for more details), the home system of the Salsha, where the Horde got stuck at the beginning of the Revelations Cycle…. Trigar. Their mission: to recover any ancient technology left, and for Thorb, the prince of the Salsha, to get as many of his kind as he can to get to Earth and be uplifted. There are 2 planets in Trigar: The homeworld of the Salsha… a water world and a desert world. Spartan will check the desert world, Thorb the water world. And of course, nothing will work as planned and we are in for a very enjoying ride, with good characterization, good fights, interesting mysteries. The book doesn’t advance the timeline much, as it is set roughly at the same time as Storm Clouds (but ends a bit after Storm Cloud ends, due to the vagaries of travel) but it gives us some more inkling about the Galactic Union as a whole and we get to meet the first female member of an otherwise well-known species… Really enjoyable read, awesome universe, can’t wait for the next!
Another fantastic book in The Four Horsemen universe by Chris Kennedy publishing. The Guild Wars series pick right up where the Omega War series ended and It has taken off running immediately. You definitely want to read this one and pick up The first one is well. I can absolutely guarantee that there is not one bad book in the entire universe.
