“We can choose to stay in our cages or break free from the past.”
“The only thing that evil needs to win is that good people stand by and do nothing.”
Filled with action packed pages I’ve come to expect, this author brings clarity and reality to every scene as well as showcasing the most challenging of topics in existence, the goodness of will, a stimulus for kindness, a necessity to fight evil.. A roll of imagination and creativity, Yanez outdoes himself with each and every premise. A truly brilliant writer! From the moment you read the 1st paragraph you’re thrown into a roller coaster ride. It has entertaining and lots of fun scenarios, as well as sharp, emotive moments. With an extremely commercial concept, not only is it an alien invasion story, but it also includes a mystery and intrigue drama, with ancient alien relics and multiple alien species to up the action sequences. And if that weren't enough, it includes moments of laugh-out-loud levity as well as emotionally compelling characters, with a fabulous AI! Well worth reading, difficult to put down. Can’t wait to read Traitor #10!

Crusade - a review by Rosemary Kenny

*slight spoilers*
The incredible Forsaken Mercenary series, (that just keeps getting exponentially better and better) by Masters of the Universe of Military Science Fiction, Jonathan Yanez and Steve Collier, reaches its 9th fantastic episode in Crusade.

Extremely enhanced, yet still endearingly human in his foibles, the focus, (and narrative) is on dynamic ex-Intel Corps, now W.O.L.F team leader, Daniel Hunt.

Ancient Relics of alien origin, have been gathered and one or more must now be used as bargaining chips to get backup for their latest mission, even though they don't necessarily trust their new ally.

With Jax still missing and Angel having also vanished while trying to find him, things are getting pretty stressful to say the least, for the Hero of Mars. Luckily he has X, (his recently removed neural implant), Al, his sarky, sassy A.I., (who now has a humanoid casing for her super-intellect, which can also be projected as a hologram), Cassie his girlfriend and wolf companion and protector, Butch to help get the job done.

What happens when the team go to free Jax?
Where is Angel?
Who doesn't make it through the battle with the sand warriors?
When does Daniel hope to take a step back from active duty?
Why doesn't this turn out as he expected?

A gritty all-action Military Space Opera, with aliens, monsters, mind control, deadly mutants, danger - and laughs a-plenty, thanks to the witty interaction between the characters we've come to both know and love, make Crusade, by Jonathan Yanez and Steve Collier, a sure 5-star winner.

The gates have opened...

And the demons rise. Angel is back but not too sound. Now to go get Jax and tame the beast within. Laine is a great assist on this mission but it takes a toll on her. Demon monkeys? Gotta read about this!

Cassie sees a chance to become her own person, with no manipulation from Julian so she takes off for the moon for help in this. And away from Daniel so all will have to adjust for a short time.

Alerna reveals more about the virus and the Pack says a final goodbye to one of their own before heading out to see some sand worms and sand soldiers created by Ammit. Some fun stuff in this one as well as some serious battles! And yes, Al still lacks focus at times (holo dating ha!) but retains that rich snarkiness you gotta love. 😉
Zoe Valentine is back in the fight and I'm going on for more in "Traitor" so see ya there!

I think this is my favorite now

They have to help Cassie and still need to find Jax and Angel, but there's so much to do. First, get the ship from GG, pay the price for it, keep the sword hidden, then become mercenary turned monster hunters...aliens really, but human legends nonetheless, monsters fits the Bill. I like them as monster hunters. We lose another great fighter; it cuts deep within the group, gain a mouthy, arrogant but sometimes funny, AI, meet up with Zoe again, who has a surprise and Alerna warns about the coming darkness. Can't wait for the next episode in this epic saga.

Thrilling

These books keep you wanting more! You have a close group of friends that you trust explicitly that are like family. You need to protect them while fighting an uphill battle of good vs evil. You have to accept help from others, but can you trust them? Most have failed you before, costing lives of your “family”. Your pushed to the breaking point over and over, but if you fail, will humanity survive? Will you survive?!

Another for the collection

It's getting exciting now as we start to see more behind the curtains and what humanity will have to face.
Great page turner and also a bit more of a heart feeling one

Daniel and his crew have their work cut out for them. After getting the relics they needed, only to have to separate them so no one gets to much power their work has only begun. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat as to what will happen next.

We see trouble in high places…

When it looks like the simple job of “monster hunter” will become routine, all hell breaks loose. Book 10 will answer more of this saga.
