The Groundskeeper - a review by Rosemary Kenny

With grave-robbing, zombies, an evil witch, ghouls, a psychic, a disgraced priest and angry villagers, the wow-factor of this story of 'everyday' village life, by Mistress of Magic,
Tanya R. Taylor, was never going to go below 100%!

When eleven graves are robbed in a single night and the only occupant of the house in the church's grounds is the eponymous groundskeeper, he's unsurprisingly not believed by the police, when he says he doesn't know anything about it and heard nothing either. Unable to cope with the notoriety he resigns and leaves soon afterwards. Needless to say, the police get nowhere with the investigation and the angry villagers are ready to lynch somebody!
Things that go bump in the night soon become all too horribly real for the new groundskeeper, when he's visited by one of the former residents and gets the shock of his life when, after seeing maggots in the guy' back, he goes outside - only to face worse horrors, in scenes worthy of The Exorcist, Night of the Living Dead and books by other fine authors in the genre.
Enter local amateur psychic and dreadful revelations follow thick and fast, leading to a satisfying and horrific conclusion - you'll never feel the same way about 'peaceful' country churchyards ever again!

Like a little creepy (not a lot)? This is the book for you. Graves are being dug up and no remains in the caskets. That is just the start of the creepy. The culprit is the creepy. Read it for yourself and see. I read it in a day, could not put it down and lots of creepy is not my thing.

You can read this book by itself even though part of a series. My first in this series and i followed the story line just fine and would probably have not known it was part of a series except for the title.

Definitely will be catching up on the others.

Author has a writing style that just makes it feel real and you are there. One reason why I read and follow her.

This book was given to ma as an ARC and this is my honest and freely given review.

Pastor McPhee is shocked when he sees dug up graves in his cemetery. Not only have they been dug up but the bodies are missing. He calls the local police in to look for the grave robber. The story the groundskeeper tells them is not a normal story of events. He has seen strange happenings that can’t be explained. The police have no clues to go on. Going by the groundskeeper’s story, they talk to a local physic named Mira Cullen. She agrees to help but she needs to go to the church first. Mira can see dead people. She sees their spirits inhabited by demons and the actual bodies are deeper in the ground. There are demonic forces at work here and it is connected to the church. I expected the story to take a little longer to be solved. But it was still eerie.

I had no idea what this book was going to be about, but I thought the title sounded interesting. Also, I was obviously not familiar with the series or I surely would have had a hint. Since I don't know if anyone will read this review who hasn't already read the first 7 books in the series, I will make this short and to the point.

The story is a bit bizarre. The small town and the townsfolk seem pretty ordinary, but when strange things start happening, everyone is confused. At first nobody wants to believe that what has happened is anything more than the work of some kind of depraved criminals. But there are no valid clues to be found until the police chief authorizes the use of a psychic to help find some...which she does!

Summary

Mathew was happy to become the Church’s groundskeeper. He enjoyed keeping the gravestones clean of weeds and to pay respects to the deceased. One day, graves were disturbed and bodies were missing!

As the police’s investigation became more and more odd, the name of the town’s doctor and mystic popped up. They decided to ask for her help.

More and more disturbing situations appeared and blood spilled….

Conclusion

I was pulled into the story as I wanted to know the truth behind the incidents. This was book 8 of the Cornelius Saga.

The book has 11 graves robbed and the bodies missing, plus there is a psychic, a witch, demonic activity, infidelity, and murder!!! The book grabs your attention and keeps you wanting to read to find out more.

If you are into the paranormal, then this is a must-read book.

This is another installment in the Cornelius saga, and as always, Tanya R. Taylor does not disappoint.

The Groundskeeper by Tanya R. Taylor is a great story. It is the type of story that you would read on Halloween! It is full of ghosts, witches, graves and paranormal happenings. It will keep you turning pages.

The plot and characters are well developed. I received this book as a gift and I always review every story that I read. I highly recommend this one!

The Groundskeeper

A touch of creepy, a touch of evil and a huge problem are all part of this book. This book is the beginning of a series which appears to be interesting. The characters seem to be unique, the plot moves along and the story is intriguing. Glad I am reading and reviewing this book.

These stories are getting better and better as you go along. I never even thought for one minute who the evil doer was, nor how they were connected. Amazing writing ability to the author. Kudos

Fantastic read. Do you believe in witchery, ghosts? This book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the start. If you get a little spooked I’d advise not to read after dark! A definite must read

This was a good old-fashioned scary story. Graveyards and demons - what more would you want when people are desecrating the church grounds? Some things are just not as they appear. I enjoyed the Caribbean flavor of the story.

This was my first read and did not know what to expect. It was very interesting once you get into the story and the different people involved and how the police had to call a psychic. Well worth reading

The story started out good and creepy. The descriptions of the desecration of the cemetary were great. Then we were introduced to what I thought were the main characters. Turns out this was an episode in a series that carries on the story.

This was a nice afternoon break. Not an in-depth book by any means, but interesting just the same.

Interesting characters took me on a creepy journey. It ended a little too abruptly for my liking, but if you are into the supernatural, I'm sure you will like this book.

Creepy and excellent story. I feel Mira's section a little rushed to solve the mystery but the book was still enjoyable.
