This novel was previously published under Rachel McClellan and includes new content.
Rachel lives in New Hampshire, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she's not in her writing lair, she's partying with her husband and four children. Her love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was…
The Devil is book #4 in a series and cannot be read standalone. It's written first person, from both Lucian and Eve's point of view, allowing us to get a real insight into the characters and their motivations. The story is fast-paced with lots of "mini-battles" on the way to the big showdown. And even that didn't go as expected and threw further twists into the story.
My attention was readily held by the book, the writing flows so well and it was easy to follow the action. It wasn't until I read the "End of Book Stuff" that I discovered Liam, LLona and May feature in a separate series. I have to admire how well the author wrote these characters into this book, I picked up everything I needed to know without their being an enormous information dump.
The Devil Series is a great urban fantasy series. It's suitable for mature teens through to adults and will leave you wanting to read the rest of the author's books!
Just as everyone else has said... what an awesome ending to this series (maybe?). I'm not sure why but I get the feeling this isn't really the end.
The thing that really draws me to this book in particular versus the others in the series, is the thought process of "afterlife". Where do you go when you pass? Where do you believe you go? I thought the interpretation of what happens after that the author gave was so intriguing! It probably doesn't really stand out to others.. being this is fiction and all.. but I really grasped on to that.
Also I'm really surprised I liked the ending. Not gonna lie.
I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say to me personally it was mostly happy? Happyish? That might not be a word, whatevs. I usually like a HEA, this was more like a H lol. Like I've already said though, I have a feeling it's not the end!
An excellent finale to a series that literally just kept getting better and better. I wasn’t 100% on board even after The Devil’s Angel (Book 2), but I was fully invested in the undeniably charming characters and couldn’t resist seeing how things would finally play out. I’m glad I stuck with it because The Devil really put a neat bow on things. Not sure if I’ll be checking out the companion series or not, but it’s been a couple days since I finished this book and already I can’t stop thinking about Eve and sweet, sweet Lucien.
100% SPOILER FREE REVIEW This seems to be the final book in the series, although it’s hinted that the author may return to it later on. What are Eve and Lucian up to now? The battles they face, include: dealing with ridding the world of the mess Boaz and “the President” brought upon it. We do learn who or what the president truly is. They also take on - Lucifer himself, the necklaces true meaning, and attempting to finally rid the world of the “Devils” threatening to return to the earthy realm. But can they be successful in all of the battles, and will they all survive? There is plenty of action, along with plenty of dialogue, this is another layered read , where I felt there was too much time was spent reciting the same things over and over, while leaving out parts that should have been explained in more depth. With all of that said - this is good read, but as a lot goes on, it’s hard to keep up with in various places, and some of the events that took place were missing the believability that came with books 1 & 2. In my personal opinion there was something lacking for me, much like book 3 (again just my personal opinion). **** I do however definitely recommend this series to anyone who loves layered paranormal reads, with a lot of awesome, relatable characters, ranging from Vampires and Witches to Vykins and Auran’s and many things in between. This series was definitely worth reading. I was excited and surprised to find out that Llona, Liam and May are part of “the fractured light series” as I read Book 1 long ago and loved it, but didn’t remember them. I will be returning to that series. Another series connected to this plays on the devastating effects of Bodian Dynamics experiments and takes place several hundred years into the Future is the “Original series” book 1 is Escape To Eden. I will definitely check that out when I have the time. https://www.amazon.com/Devil-Book-4-e...
Pretty stoked about this book! The finale in the series and it really did have a lot to wrap up, and threw a lot of other adventures and side-quests into the plot as well! I loved the introduction of some characters that are more deeply involved (Llona, Liam) as well as the overall plotline introducing more Supernatural types. Definitely some twists and turns that I didn't expect , and it's good to see some old villains still sticking around as well as new ones! I liked so definitely feel like there could possibly be a spin-off story here with the whole multi-dimensional thing. I don't particularly like Henry's character, as the books have progressed he seems a bit whiny and know-all with not much balls behind him haha. Overall a good read, the best in the series. I like the character development (as always I feel like we could have a bit more of the emotional romance side of the relationship between Lucien and Eve, as it always feels a bit rushed!), and the storyline and the finish up was satisfying, if not unexpected.
The end of the series does not disappoint I have to say.
When I read the first book, so much happened in it I thought it couldn't be possible that there was more to be told.
How wrong was I?
Lucien is full of pain and anger. Eve is gone. And with the spell she cast on herself no one can find her.
The 'President' is making things harder for supernatural - especially the Auras. Who - in fact ate just the people to call on for help.
After rescuing a Fury from Lianes torture, the characters of Llona and Liam are introduced and they're welcomed. Their magic help find Eve who's living as as 'Reina' in New Orleans.
It's a race against the Presidents men and Lucien and friends to get Eve to remember. And the President - who is in fact Erebus - has had a head start by sending in werewolves and had one date Eve.
The fight scenes are well written. The characters are built well and their growth is viable. Relationships are made, shaken, broken, mended, ended, reshaped.....
I'd love a novella to just tie off everything and to give everything the final HEA that those who finally survived deserve.
Pretty good series tbh. stick with it if you decide to pick it up.
This whole series has been wonderful to read, there was so many different characters and supernaturals. There was vampires, witches, lycans, demons, furies, auroas, and more. I was hooked from the first few pages and fell in love with Eve and Lucien. Finally we met the Devil and the big fight was on, I was not let down at all and there was plenty of bloody action. I did wish some people found more peace than they were left with and I wanted to know what happened to some characters, hopefully Rachel will write another one or a spin off. It was well written and the story was just full of creativity, you can tell Rachel put so much into her work. This was my first time reading her work so I can't wait to see what else she has done. I don't read to many YA books but but this is an author I will following ands reading for a long time to come. Thank you for the wonderful time😉
Great ending to a great line of books! love the story with all these how great It flowed and it didn't seemed rushed like beginning and then bang we are in love.. no her first book was eve past and the middle was his story. Great to see his pov in these as well and to hear from both sides going forward in the last books.
Although I would of liked to see more of their ending, maybe some in to their future and where they went. Also if Morning Star ever asked for anything in return.. but I guess she may write a new line to answer this Or she may of already.. can't wait to start the other to see what happened with liam and his lovely light of his life and also may!
I find the series refreshing for my need for the supernatural novels and this series has it all. Romantic overture with twisted demons, which pray upon others. To main characters holding down the demented evil around them, one a witch and another a vampire. Yes their are other novels with the same storyline. But, this just had a little likeable storytelling by author Rachel McClellan that I found myself getting the next installment in the series. Worthy read for the supernatural off the wall readers.
I really love the series, and it took me a few days of "you really do want to know what happens" before I could finish it, because I am so in love with all of the characters and I just didn't want to let them go.
When I started back, as always I couldn't put it down. I just had to finish. The character development was amazing, and I didn't find any of the scenes lacking. I just wish it wasn't the end, because I love these characters.
I am having a bittersweet moment with this series ending. And I think that there was a few places that could be expanded on later. I really love May and Llona and everyone from Fractured Light so I hope they get another story in the future too!
I don't like spoilers so I will try not to give any but still review. Some parts of this book were missing the believability that books 1 & 2 had to them which is the reason I was hooked on the series. While I still really enjoyed the read there was just something lacking for me. I truly enjoyed this entire series, but I do wish there was a little more to the ending. I can't say much more than that without giving away spoilers. I recommend this series to anyone who loves layered paranormal read.
4.5 Stars! Is it really over? Say it isn't so... I loved this book and series. I got very attached to the characters and I'm so sad, I will miss Eve and Lucien and Henry and Charlie and all the rest of the group. What an epic journey. The as were my first books from this author but I'll definitely be looking her up to see what other goodies she has for my consumption.
I’ve finished this series and would definitely recommend for those who enjoy supernatural stories. Great addictive stories! You can easily picture each character in your mind and the struggles they face.
Action, adventure, love and magic.I really loved this series it was wonderful and beautiful without smut.I rated it a five I would have rated it higher if possible!
Wow wow wow - what a stunningly powerful read. Eve and Lucien manage to get themselves into even more mad and dangerous situations but their love acts as a shining light to aid them through the pain and horror! Truly brilliant end to the series! Loved it and can't recommend it highly enough!
Epic Battle between dark and light and a great wrap up for the series. I enjoyed this series and the characters. I will check out other books from this author in the future.
I have really enjoyed this book and series. I would recommend it. I don’t tell what is in the books I read. That’s for you to read and find out. Off to the next book.
I really enjoyed this series and getting to know the characters. There are plenty of ups and downs with lots of twists and turns. The relationships between them characters is ever developing. Lots of supernatural activity.
I just realized I jumped into this series reading book 4 first. Yeah I know not smart. Although this was a series I was able to jump right in and enjoy a well written book that just got better and better. Eve castes a spell to take away her memory but when Lucien finally tracks her down with the help of some new friends it sets off a series of life altering events. The question remains what will the group as a whole need to do to ensure they are ready and able to win their lives and freedom. It may be a high price. The story is filled with action and intrigue and all things magical, loads of paranormal characters wrecking havoc for the gang. They are about to face the fight of a lifetime. Eve will need to dig deep to ensure everyone is safe.
Great characters, loads of action and intrigue. Love all of the magic and the supernaturals that blend well in this well written adventure. Now I have to go back and read the rest of the series. . . .shaking my head.
This is a must read, if you read he first 3 of this series or just love a good paranormal series. Eve and Lucien are back, but of course, things are not easy for them. Eve can't get over the death and destruction she caused. Even with Lucien by her side, Eve decides she needs time to heal...alone. Casting a spell on herself, Eve forgets everything, including her love for Lucien.
Something with a lot of dark power is on the hunt or the necklace that made Eve evil. Time is running out, Lucien needs to find her and make her remember. The oldest powers will clash, who will be able to tame what they need? Who won't make it out alive??
I absolutely love May! She is full of spunk, snark, & piss & vinegar. I can't wait to read about her story. I hope it's on KU because I don't read anything not on it. It just wouldn't make sense especially since the Rouen Chronicles & this series are KU. Ok I get a little upset every time Eve assumes she has to be the one to sacrifice her life for everyone else. Did she ever think she at least owed it to the others to ask their opinion? Show some respect Eve. And don't get me started on Liane! That girl is as two faced as Sable! At least she finally got what was coming to her. And Eve grew a backbone about it & didn't feel bad about it.Overall great fight scenes, that lasted a long time!
I read all the books to this series in one sitting. Day after day the books were finished. But with this one I didn't want to finish the story of the strongest witch and her good friends. Expect fighting, rage and much more. I loved that the author mentioned Eden in all the books because if you read any of her other books. She also made a series called original which is about DNA anyways if you loved this series you will definitely love that one also well. As at the end of the book the series collated together. That couldn't have made me happier. Now to read that series again.
