A gambit for love, a half-baked revenge plot; one hot Seattle summer…
Arnie
One minute I’m minding my own business enjoying the sunshine, next I’m wearing my iced coffee.
I’m going to teach Tobias Barrington a thing or two; first: you don’t always get what you want. I have no idea what the second is, I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Falling in love with Tobias is not on the list.
Tobias
I've never forgotten Arnie Ferguson, or the night we had together. When I find him again, I want to get to know him—as more than a friend.
I may come from a wealthy family; but I know better than most that money can’t buy happiness. But brash, socially awkward Arnie Ferguson makes me think happiness is possible when you let your heart choose.
Feinted Love is a first person, dual POV, following Arnie Ferguson and Tobias Barrington as they do their best to awkwardly fall in love. No cliff hanger, HEA guaranteed. Heat level, 3+.

I thought I had reviewed this when I read it in November, but I can't find the review anywhere. Not on Goodreads...and not on LibraryThing...so I guess that's what I get for trying to think and it's always better late than never. Arnie and Tobias belong together...it just took them half the book to discover what I knew from the start. Fate is a strange critter sometimes doing unexpected things like dumping coffee on you to get your attention. Revenge has absolutely no heart or soul and when it occupies space, in your heart and brain, you don't seem to have room for anything else and usually don't show your best side. Then when your thoughts turn over and over while confusing you to no end, and "THE ONE" comes crashing their way into your heart...what can you do but give in? I loved Tobias and Arnie. They are wonderfully entertaining while trying to avoid one another but knowing it just isn't working out like that. Arnie thinks Tobias does not acknowledge him because he is not super rich like his family is. With the help, (which is questionable), of his best friend he comes up with the perfect, {which is also questionable), plan to finally take advantage of his degree and finally let him leave the coffee shop where he currently works. What Arnie could never expect was where his new job takes him. Fate has a few more surprises for our two guys. Another great story by Elle Keaton that will touch your heart and make you want to meet more of the characters in this series.
This book earns 4 stars on vibes alone. Honestly, I don’t have much to say—it was cute, short, and low-angst, with both MCs being absolutely adorable.
It features a sort of second-chance romance between two guys who aren’t thrilled with their current lives, a hilariously failed revenge plot, and plenty of snarky banter.
RTC but this one is on me. It was super sweet and I can definitely see the appeal, it’s just read like YA and I don’t really like YA, so it was really hard for me to get into the book because of that.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
Cute! This was so cute. I was smiling and giggling most of the time. Loved the second chance romance and all of the secondary cast was great fun. I would love to see them again and look forward to more Crimes of the Heart!
This was a quirky and fun story and was an enjoyable way to pass a winter afternoon.
The storyline of revenge was a bit too…silly (not sure that’s the right word) for me to love it, but the characters were cute and you definitely rooted for them to find their way to their happy ever after.
Still, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series as I really do love this author.
< ARC provided by GRR and this is my honest review >
I was given a free arc copy from the author for review.
It pains me to rate a book this low and I almost never do. I glanced at the other ratings and I'm kinda flabbergasted. Perhaps I am the wrong audience. I didn't see a YA warning on it when I signed up but it definitely should have one. I couldn't hack the immaturity. I knew they were in college but yikes. I wanted to mark DNF by like 40% and had to power through. I did enjoy the last 20% and thats why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.
Aside from the immaturity, I felt no connection to the characters and didn't really care if they ended up together. They didn't have any chemistry.
I thought the plot was weak. They hookup years ago and both are secretly so enamored by that one night yet they never bother to attempt to speak???? Then while they are pretty much back together Arnie is still hatching this revenge plot. It was just too ridiculous and petty by that point.
Then we have Tobias who is so weak under his father's thumb and his excuses were weak. Letting on like he's being all sacrificial to help his sister. Even she thought that was dumb. Then the excuse of waiting a year for his inheritance. I couldn't help but think you're a popular, successful man, go get another job to take care of yourself for that year if you're so unhappy there.
For me the worse part was Arnie being insecure all the time. All the self loathing was annoying and then jumping to conclusions and making a irrational backup plan when he didn't hear from Tobias for a few hours. Then acting like a petulant child to his mom. With some unnatural jealousy and weird possessiveness that was selfish and creepy.
None of the side characters grabbed my attention either and I hated Charley so this is a series I'm going to be leaving here.
I will say the best part was Olivia letting her husband have it lol.

DNF. I tried to to read this book twice. I just couldn’t get through it. I found Arnie so immature and obnoxious that I wasn’t surprised he couldn’t get a better job even though he has a college degree. I got tired of him constantly repeating the same thing over and over.
This was cute. Very slice-of-life. The plot was thin--even the MC seemed to think so--but it was an entertaining read all the same. I did enjoy Arnie's personality and Tobias' acceptance of him as he was. As a writer, I want to say that the book would have benefited greatly from another round of edits. There were inconsistencies that bugged me (example: the book opens on "freshman year of college" and then the events of that chapter are referred to as having happened in high school later), but not so much that they ruined the reading experience.
This was a so so read for me as there were things I enjoyed and then one or two that lowered that level. I highly recommend really paying attention when reading Arnie's POV as he thinks and talks a little all over the place. It's endearing but also confusing in places and I wasn't too sure on his plan to set the world to rights by interacting with Tobias, his first and the time from which he considers his life not going to plan. He is very out there and quirky and you can understand why Tobias is drawn to him. They are very sweet when together and both are obviously attracted to each other. It's funny how both seem to think they need an elaborate plan to get into each others lives when all they had to do was talk. They both have a fair bit going on elsewhere in their lives and I liked how they both stepped up to offer support to each other even with how little time they'd been reconnected. There is a good cast of characters, especially Tobias's best friend and Arnie's mum who definitely offer some light relief. I especially enjoyed when Arnie's mum took him shopping, now there's a lady with no personal boundaries! Tobias's father on the other hand is truly horrible and brings the lighter tone back down to earth. Overall, Feinted Love is a good story. It just took me a while to get into it and get to grips with Arnie's ramblings. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Veronica – ☆☆☆☆ Arnie and Tobias are from two different worlds. Tobias comes from a wealthy family and is working for his father’s successful real estate business. Arnie isn’t using his college degree, is working at a coffee shop, and living in a tiny apartment with his best mate, Duff.
Arnie bumps into Tobias and decides his life went awry when he first met Tobias seven years ago. He decides he needs to get some sort of revenge to even the scales. Initially I found this whole get even scheme cringeworthy, but it quickly becomes a source of entertainment as it is apparent that Arnie’s hair-brained scheme won’t work. Then we meet Tobias and he is a lovely guy who is a bit quiet and shy, hates his job, and just wants to write screenplays and date Arnie.
Arnie is intelligent, awkward, and delightful. I felt like his brain is always on and it was thoroughly entertaining seeing life from his point of view. Tobias’ calmer personality works well with Arnie and it was so enjoyable being with the two of them as they fell in love. It is also pretty hot on occasion.
Feinted Love is what you would call a feel-good romance and I found it totally charming. I loved it. Four stars from me.

After seven years Arnie still needs to get back to Tobias like Operation: Teach Tobias Barrington a Lesson. In his eyes, Tobias, who comes from money, treated him badly back when they were seventeen.
Envy and jealousy are running through Arnie’s veins, he’s honest about it. Tobias can't get Arnie out of his mind. Running into him, literally, he can't believe his luck. Arnie tries to set up a date and Tobias tries to set up a date... both with help from their friends both with different goals. Arnie has to admit Tobias isn't whom he thought he was.
An adorable, sparkling, uplifting story, a bit chaotic, and that had its charm. With a lot of silliness. Two guys who were meant to be together, opposite in every way. The drive to the diner was hilarious, I was snorting and laughing loud. Both their families had a side story
An uplifting quite adorable narrative, with a contagious sparkling vibe. I loved it!

This was a sweet book that does not take itself too seriously.
I quite enjoyed Arnie and Tobias's story, though, it was kind of ridiculous sometimes.
One hookup 7 years ago. Secret pining for each other. Arnie finding exuses for his not so stellar life and Tobias finally taking his life into his hands.
The story was somewhat simple and Arnie's behavious is immature but the characters made up for it! Arnie is this overly dramatic, lively person with limited social skills and a revenge plan. His view on his life is a bit pathetic and I didn't actually like it. But it seemed like he grew a lot through the book. Tobias is a very shy guy, trapped in the family business and huge crush on Arnie. He tries to follow his dreams and with Arnie he gathers courage to do so.
Overall, it was a nice and enjoyable story, though the plot was weird and the chemistry wqs lacking.
This is a fun and humorous book, with a great cast of unique and quirky characters. Arnie, in particular, is so wonderfully weird. Which I mean in the best way! His half-baked revenge plan to get back at Tobias was just the cutest. He was so intent on making Tobias pay that it made him oblivious to the fact that he just wanted to be with him. And Tobias is simply the sweetest person ever. I adored how unsure he was of trying to get Arnie to notice him in the beginning. And everything he did from then on out had me go full on heart eyes.
I really enjoyed this book. Arnie was funny and often downright silly, but he had a tender heart. Tobias wanted nothing more than to take care of that heart. There was chaos surrounding these men, but their love story proceeded without the angst I expected. I laughed a lot, and I smiled even more, as I watched Arnie and Tobias fall quickly for each other. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series, which might possibly break my heart. But for now, I'll just sit back and feel pleased about the happy ending achieved by Arnie and Tobias.
I really enjoyed both characters in this book. They were sweet and each quirky in their own way, and I think they worked really well together. What didn’t work for me was each of their plans. I was confused by what each of them was “plotting” and how they expected it to work, and I never felt like it was truly explained well. I will continue the series, as I felt like the side characters were fun and I’m interested in their stories, but this one just missed the mark a little for me.
The cover I saw was NOT this dramatic 😂 it was more comic and cutesy which drew me in. Arnie’s character fits that vibe and I enjoyed his journey as he stumbled over his words and into love (teehee cheesy).
Bit disappointed in this one, was confused for the first half as Tobias was plotting to get Arnie back, but not quite sure what Arnie was plotting ..getting Tobias back , then dumping him I think . The MCs themselves were quite sweet even though came over as immature !!
Not the book for me. Honestly, it took everything I had to not DNF this book.
Recap: Arnie is the poor kid who feels slighted by Tobias, the rich kid, for something that happened seven years ago. Seems like a long time to hold on to a one-night-stand gone wrong; they reunite thanks to a run-in and a spilled coffee. Arnie plots to seek revenge on Tobias and ends up falling for him instead. Tobias, the misunderstood rich boy liked, still likes, and wants Arnie. Two awkward men navigate their dynamic and the story ends with a HEA.
The side characters were okay, but the MCs had quite a bit of nonsensical rambling that made it difficult to follow the story.
Why I didn't love this one: Arnie annoyed the ever-loving crap out of me. I get it, he's a younf twenty-something, but he whines and acts like a preteen. What college-aged kid throws the equivalent of a toddler tantrum because their parent is dating and planning to remarry? Ugh, I just couldn't stand him. And unfortunately, he is the reason I dislike the book.
My struggle? I like Tobias. He was popular because of his money and well-meaning outgoing best friend, but he was awkward AF, and had his own drama at home. Had it not been for the other MC, I would have enjoyed this book.
I rarely read NA, but decided to check this one out anyway.
The book just really did not work for me. I wasn't really feeling any of the characters but especially did not care for Arnie. The entire premise of the book basically became redundant pretty early on, yet Arnie still decided to go forward with his nonsensical revenge plan, despite even acknowledging himself it was ridiculous. The way he kept acting was so immature and a lot of his inner ramblings were kind of incoherent.
Overall the whole story was often disjointed and didn't progress naturally / flow at all.
I'm not super intrigued about the other characters who are going to be MCs in the other books, so maybe I'll just let this series be.
I don’t understand. The book started out ok. One night stand, both guys really like the other guy and then….nothing. It took them SEVEN YEARS to even try and do anything about it. One guys pissed the other guy feels guilty. FOR SEVEN YEARS. I mean, come on. And it’s boring. Arnie is dull dull dull and Tobias ain’t much better. The side characters are unremarkable but I’m sure they’re getting their own book. It’s just bleah…
It might just be my impression but I felt I was reading new adult, usually something I avoid, except I do like the author so my opinion is utterly subjective. Arnie was annoying at times and Tobias was wish-washy but I guess it was because they were such young characters. The writing itself is excellent.
I completely blanked on the title for this when I saw crime was expecting a read outside my normal but haha its just a lovely light-hearted romamce read that I super enjoyed! Arnie's plan made me giggle at its flaws but it ends up perfect as he gets his man or well they get each other :)
I just couldn't get into this one, not particularly liking any of the characters didn't help me at all, I found Arnie a selfish, whiny little boy and Tobias like a limp rag. I gave up around 40% I think.
This was a surprisingly amusing book that started off with a lie but instead of going wrong it went right and just made for an amazing time!
Arnie and Tobias met once, years ago, at a house party at Tobias's house. The two hooked up but when the party ended on a disastrous note they split. Being from vastly different social circles they never see each other again.....until Tobias literally runs into Arnie, spilling his coffee everywhere, before running off again. So starts the most amusing 'revenge' plan ever!
Tobias has money through his family and runs in rich circles, it he doesn't really do what he wants to. Yes, he is aware that can sound very poor little rich boy, it Tobias wants to step away from his controlling family. As long as his sister is still under the same roof as his parents he is sticking around, but a bit more of his soul is dying every day. Tobias hates working for his father, hates the business he has been roped into, and isn't good at it. He dreams of more and those dreams start to take shape when he runs into Arnie, the one who got away. Tobias never found Arnie again after their one time but has always remembered him, so he decides to concoct a plan to make Arnie jealous and ask him out. Which is sort of a terrible idea, it amazingly sort of works.
Arnie decides that ever wrong decision in his life started with sleeping with Tobias. He plans to get revenge on the man by getting some new clothes (which look great anyway), getting a job that actually uses his degree (which he always wanted to do but hadn't gotten out from the coffee shop yet), and asking Tobias out on a date with his dazzling new standing. As was pointed out Arnie's plan seemed to be more impressing Tobias than anything, but he couldn't possibly being doing that when he wanted revenge. So Arnie sets out to get his life on a new path (the one he always wanted) and get romantic revenge....because that's normal.
As you can see each man's plan is a little ridiculous and out there, but they both work. That is of course because they are both trying to get each others attention and honestly it is hilarious and adorable. Getting to know Arnie starts giving Tobias the courage to make decisions for himself in life and separate himself from his poisonous family. Meanwhile, trying to get 'revenge' in Tobias helps Arnie step out of his comfort zone to get things in life he had always wanted, and also maybe realize just what romantic feelings he has. It is a weird journey for them to get together but it all works and the drama along the way is more amusing than angsty. A very fun book and a promise for more from the series!
