Busy Thoughts Before Bed is an amazingly helpful resource for everyone to own, whether you're a businessman or a lawyer, a construction worker or a student, an accountant or a homeschooling mother. It will help you to organize your thoughts, “get everything down,” and finally be able to go to sleep and not have to feel like you’ve forgotten something or you’re not ready for the coming day.

Personally for me, it’s been a great comfort to know that I have this little book that I can fall back to when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed. It’s got topical verses from Scripture near the beginning, from verses promoting rest to ones concerning worry and anxiety and the author also adds some insightful commentary and annotations after each one. Personally, some of these verses have helped a lot. I’ve had panic attacks in the past, all of which were at night, and back then I didn’t have much to ground me (I have a Bible but no verses written out that I could access anytime). This book gave me comfort that if I ever needed any reassurance again, it would be there for me, whispering softly not to be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6-7).

Anyway, after the topical verses comes a little section with 9 tips on resting well. These are good, gentle, and practical reminders for all of us to take care of ourselves and our wellbeing.

The rest of the book consists of 100 days’ worth (or should I say nights’ worth?) of writing/journaling/drawing space (whichever you prefer) to get your creative ideas down onto paper (e.g. “Propose a plan about inclusivity presentations to boss?” or “Possible things to bring on the surprise road trip this weekend 1) Picnic supplies for lunch 2) Bug spray for the hike 3) Audiobooks for the kids”), “to do” list templates, and an area to get any stressful thoughts out (we all know we all have too much of those these days, don’t we?) This book encourages you to first let go of all the pressures of the day and the worries of tomorrow, second focus on what’s most important, and third let your mind wander free as you write jot fun ideas you have or doodle entire pages full of flowers (yes, I actually did that). It’s a pretty light book and easy to bring with you anywhere you might need it and it’s also got a super beautiful cover and high-quality pages that don’t bleed through. I love placing this on a table near my bed or even under my pillow or something like that, and knowing that it’s there just in case I think of something I don’t want to forget and need to write it down really quick or for when I could use some encouragement is a great feeling.

As the author wrote, this book is dedicated “to all those people struggling to find rest." It would also make a perfect birthday present or stocking stuffer to a friend or relative in need! I honestly think that every household in America would do well to have at least one copy of a book like this in their homes.

Many thanks to the author for the free review copy! I am beyond grateful. Please note that all opinions expressed are completely my own and I was not required to provide a positive review ☺️ I won't be forgetting about this book anytime soon and there’s a good chance I’ll be purchasing a copy (or copies) of this in the future to gift friends and family who need it.
