Sweet like a Hallmark romance

I feel like I could just jump right into this cover and walk these lavender fields--gorgeous! There's something so comforting about a deserving couple finding a second chance at love and what better place to find it than at a farming convention in Minnesota.

Hilary is a widow and Dane is a broken-hearted man, yet their easy, casual, and gradual relationship brings as much solace to the soul as a bowl of bubbling tomato soup with a hot and melty grilled cheese sandwich to dip in it. This is the type of small town, heartwarming, Hallmarky romance that speaks to the heart and makes me feel like there's not a care in the world.

This story is a great new start to a series that has me interested in returning to. Even old scars can heal and I can't wait to see what's in store in Book 2.

Content: mild romance

Love, Lies and Lavender: A Sweet, Small-Town Romance (Blueberry Point Romance Book 1)

By D. E Malone
This book was like watching a cute hallmark movie! Could almost see it, which was pretty cool, it goes to show how great her writing is. Hilary & Dane both had scars and things to work through. Really enjoyed the plot and the journey, most of all the ending was very ovely!!

This was a cute and fun book to read.

Hilary does not want to be at the conference. Her heart isn't into fulfilling her late husband's dream and her sister-in-law has bailed on her. She is alone in a different part of the world and doesn't want to socialize.

Dane is a great romantic interest. He is fun and easy-going. He doesn't agree to present at the conference thinking he would fall in love, but sometimes love isn't something you can plan for. It was a sweet romance with friends finding love. It didn't feel rushed even though the conference lasted one week.

This is a book that makes the perfect summer book. It is easy to read and is a sweet romance.

Love, Lies and Lavender was so darn good that I stayed up way too late finishing it last night!!! This is a story of two lovely people taking a second chance at romance and it will really pull at your heart! I definitely felt the connection between the characters here and there wasn’t any unnecessary drama. The setting descriptions really transported me.

It is a quick (under 200 pages) sweet read that I highly recommend this clean romance to anyone who is a fan of a Hallmark movies because it gave me all the adorable small town vibes!!
I’ve included the full synopsis in the comments!

Sweet, sweet,sweet! Very entertaining !

Several nights ago my husband and I sat down to see if it was possible to plan a trip to California for the winter holidays. After all, we retired to rural Missouri ,3 years ago, with the thought of finally being able to travel like we wanted to. We bought a new travel trailer, and a used pick-up to pull it with. Somewhere along the line we picked up two rescue dogs supposed to be mid-sized beagle mixes. Surprise! They can kiss my forehead standing on their hind legs, they get car sick going into town, and like many rescues have issues that make them not quite suitable to travel. Then the pandemic happened and all thoughts of travel were curtailed. Now the cost of gas combined with kennel fees for the dogs makes taking a trip more than once a year very difficult. I have to say, it has been very depressing for the last two years.

To battle my winter travel blues, I began to read more. I discovered a love for books that feature small towns where everyone knows your name in places I have always wanted to travel to. Love, Lies and Lavender by D. E Malone is such a novel. It is a second chance romance that takes place first in Minnesota but also includes Oregon and Idaho. D.E Malone not only brings the beauty of small town Minnesota to your living room, she exposes us to many different lifestyles and businesses associated with small farm businesses. Her word paintings were so vivid, I felt at times that I was standing on the shore of the great lakes, walking through lavender fields in Oregon, or staying at a B&B in Idaho.
The characters are so well-developed they seem real enough to be my neighbors. And I love the fact that the romance involved people who were not 20 something millenials! Though still younger than us retirees, Dane and Hillary were old enough to know that committed relationships take some work. You have to want it enough to fight for it.
This is a sweet romance with the only love making being some stolen, steamy kisses, in some romantic places. Dean goes out of his way to bring the romance ,with picnics and quiet, private meals. Ah! To be courted like that again! It just melted my heart. I might like my romance novels with just a pinch more spice but it takes real craftsmanship to be able to illustrate the discovery of your soul-mate and the sexual tension that occurs in the beginning of a relationship using only words and no explicit sex scenes. There is nothing to get in the way of the well thought out plot. DE Malone has that talent.
So a trip to California for Christmas may be off the table but with writers like Ms. Malone, I am able to take a road trip without the cost of gas! Maybe I will take my Kindle out to the travel trailer and pretend it is parked on Sunset Beach in California at Christmas time!

I loved getting to visit the Blueberry Point Inn, and found myself completely wrapped up in this beautiful story. Love, Lies and Lavender is a heartwarming, sweet romance that speaks to the importance of grieving, learning how to move on, and trusting your heart with a second chance at love. Dane and Hilary have both been mending broken hearts for vastly different reasons, and both have been carrying the scars ever since. When they both end up attending the same small farming conference, sparks are soon flying between them. With how much they both have to overcome, a romance seems at times almost unattainable. However, sometimes life works in ways that we never could have seen coming, and I think readers everywhere are going to love this beautiful romance that tugs at the heartstrings, and reminds us all of the important things in life.

D.E. Malone is an extremely gifted storyteller, and the setting truly comes to life on the page. While reading this one, I had a clear picture in my head of the Blueberry Point Inn, and both Hilary and Dane's family farms, and I felt like I was right there experiencing everything along with the characters. One of my absolute pet peeves in reading romance books is insta-love, and I was a little worried about the time line of this one when I first started reading it. However, I absolutely loved the way that Hilary and Dane's relationship is written, and I think the author did a fantastic job of making it seem not only swoon worthy, but also completely realistic and believable. This is a pretty impressive feat in today's romance novels, and I truly adored each and every page.

I had a hard time accepting Jorie's character for the first part, but she quickly grew on me, and I thought her character was a great addition to the plot points about grief and the non linear timeline towards healing and moving on. I honestly think this is one of those stories that has a little something for everyone, and the writing was truly phenomenal. I loved Hilary and Dane's budding romance, I loved the setting, I enjoyed the tough themes that are tackled throughout, and I can't wait for a second visit to the gorgeous Blueberry Point Inn.

This book is perfect for any fans of sweet romance, and it's definitely being added to my favorites list in this category. I'm really wanting to go back and read the author's previous sweet romance series now, as I've heard it contains some characters that are also present in this series.

Final Rating: 4/5.

Thanks so much to D. E. Malone for allowing me to advance read this!

Hilary is in the beautiful, Minnesota Northwoods for a small business conference. Alone. She wasn't supposed to be alone, but when her sister-in-law misses her flight it seems destined for Hilary to strike out on her own. With anxiety sky high, she meets lavender farmer Dane, and a mother-daughter team at the airport, for an uncomfortable ride back to the inn the conference is held at. Dane closed off his heart after his ex-wife betrayed him and trampled it. And as much as he wants to, he's worried about trusting another woman, even Hilary. As Dane and Hilary grow closer over the course of the conference, talk soon moves from her goal of fulfilling her late husband's dream to open a bed & breakfast beside an orchard, to something more intimate. But when her sister-in-law shows up halfway through, it looks like Hilary and Dane's chances of finding love once again are dashed.

This was a sweet, fun novel. I loved that it took place in the Northwoods and we got to spend some time on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I've been there twice and it was absolutely beautiful. I think the author did a great job of capturing the atmosphere. I related to Hilary a lot in her being shy, her anxiety, and not taking compliments well.

Hilary and her sister-in-law, Jorie, are in the process of opening up a bed and breakfast. In preparation, Jorie registers them for a farm conference. However, her father becomes ill and she cannot attend leaving Hilary to attend alone. Hilary is resentful. Jorie is the one who wants a B&B. It was her dream along with her brother Will, Hilary’s late husband. While at the conference she meet Dane, one of the presenters and owner of a lavender farm in Oregon. They hit it off right away, but then Jorie shows up midway through the conference and is openly unhappy about their budding romance. Will Hilary have the courage to stand up for herself and live her own life?

This is a clean, sweet romance. There are no curse words and no sex scenes. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance.

I was thrilled when I heard that D.E. Malone had a new series out...a spin-off of Hearts in Hendricks series! It was fun to see some of the characters I fell in love with and meet a few new faces as well.

Hilary and Dane both have sad stories from their pasts and watching them shyly work through their internal struggles kept me reading late in the night.

Great start to a new series

Loved being back in Hendricks. I didn't realize Darcy and Sean would be a part of this series too. It was a fun surprise. I loved Hilary and Dane. They were so cute and just had this natural gravitational pull to each other. It was fun reading their story and how they faced their challenges. I was frustrated with Hilary and Jorie a lot, but glad they finally figured things out.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this cute, lighthearted contemporary romance. The second chance love story is fun without any annoying and dumb obstacles like weird misunderstandings that happen so often in these types of books. It was just a good love story of finding each other.

Well done characters, descriptions are enough to visualize the scene without bogging down the story.

The emotions and moods came through in the actions and interactions even when the emotions themselves were not described.

I would be lying if I said I didn't love this book

Love, Lies, and Lavender is such a beautiful and heartwarming story by D.E. Malone. Hilary is really reserved at the start, especially when her sister in law Jorie is running behind for a conference at Blueberry Pointe Lodge. I struggled a little with their dynamic between Hilary and Jorie, but as the story went on it worked so well and I loved them!

D.E. Malone did such a great job on this story I could practically smell the lavender through my phone and feel the breezes as I read. It was very intriguing and kept me going. I laughed quite a few times at the different characters personalities, and I cried like a baby at a few spots.

I love how this story showed that just because two things don't seem like they should go together, they may turn out very beautiful and even delicious.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next ones

Having read D.E. Malone's books in her Hearts in Hendricks series, I was excited to read the first book in her new spin-off, Blueberry Point Romance, series. I enjoyed the same setting, a small tourist town along the North Shore of Lake Superior, as well as appearances of a few of the same characters.

With Malone's new series comes new characters. It was fun watching Hilary and Dane get to know each other in "Love, Lies, and Lavender" when they travel from out of state and meet at a small farms conference in Hendricks. Even though both of them had been hurt in the past, they were willing to give love a second chance--with each other. But first they must deal with an interfering sister-in-law, fear of getting too serious too quickly, Hilary's misgivings about her small business, and the trials of a long distance relationship, Will they overcome these obstacles to find true love?

Good clean romance/woman's fiction about second chances for a widow and a cheated-on groom, who meet at a farming convention to find instant attraction. This story is nicely written with well-developed characters and return characters from the authors previous books which makes it nice. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I’ve always loved a good sweet romance story and this one is great. He runs a lavender farm and she is in the process of opening a bed and breakfast on an apple orchard. They live 500 miles apart and happen to meet at a small business conference. It’s a fun, quick read with good character development.

This book is full of angst ,laughter love. I loved how much DE Malone used Lavender as much as possible. The idea of lavender in syrups and apple pies is intriguing. Great story about losing someone and getting a second chance at love.

3/5 story Steam/intimacy 1/5

This is a sweet 2nd chance innocent (chaste) romance without religious overtones.

A Minnesota resort on the scenic Northern shores of Lake Superior is the setting for a sustainable farming conference where Hilary and Dane meet. Hilary, a 31 y/o widow (no children) from Idaho meets tall, handsome Oregon lavender farmer & conference presenter Dane.

With an attraction from their first meeting, the main characters spend time getting to know each other at the conference as well as negotiate their readiness to love again and the obstacle of a 5 hour distance between their homes. Additionally Hilary’s sister-in-law is very triggered by the budding romance and attempts to quash their efforts to be together.

Following 2 years of grief and reliance on close family members, it took awhile for Hilary to find her voice to advocate for her own happiness. Hilary is torn; she seeks to redefine her own hopes and aspirations without disappointing family. This was a sensitively written novel illuminating the personal and interpersonal challenges survivors have in turning the page to the next chapter of life.

Spoilers below.

Notes: M/F, slow burn, chaste romance (kissing), friends to lovers, young widow, farm setting, small town, divorced cinnamon roll MMC.
