Part human, part dragon, a teen is caught in a war she barely understands. Entire realms depend on her ability to master her newly discovered magic.
I didn’t believe in magic until I was abducted and transported to Zilferia, a planet filled with creatures thought to be mythical. Amazingly, I discovered I am one such creature—part human, part dragon. Prophecy labels me a savior, but it also puts a target on my back. The Dragon Hunters, a bloodthirsty set of renegades, will stop at nothing to wipe me out. If I die, the entire realms will be crushed.
Am I ill-prepared for this challenge? Yes. Will I let that stop me? Never.

This series was such a welcome surprise. Not only does it have exceptional world building. Several realms. Each with very different cultures, ecosystems, and societies. That right there is my favorite part. Also on the positive side, the characters are quite relatable, complex, and likable. I was heavily engrossed in each book, finishing most of them in one sitting. Plenty of plot twists, and well built relationships. Definitely worth the read.
I tend to have more than one book at a time. This book however, totally threw me off my reading regimen. It grabbed my attention and insisted I read it to its fruition. It feels like a hunger games retell but the author added her own nuances to this to make it entirely her own tale. The games themselves are just a fraction of the real threats these characters face. This intriguing storyline being captured within this authors great world building, needless to say the next in this series is already plotted out in my reading plan. Now to catch up where this book put me behind with. First earth
Second in this series, this picks up the storyline beautifully. More characters are added into the mix, making this even more complex. The MC shows growth in maturity while still maintaining her youthfulness. The threats just keep coming and the action makes it very hard to put this book down for a break! All alliances are trying to unite but the danger just keeps advancing. Love how complex this is! Quagon
Book three continues Crystals quest perfectly. The realm of Quagon sounds breathtaking, and the enhancements that Crystal and Nathan go through could be pictured perfectly. There is so much uncertainty as to who belongs with who and even more characters get added into the mystery. The younger prince of Quagon seems noble and yet still retains a pure innocence about him. Two more supporting characters make their debut in the epilogue which truly keeps the readers guessing as to the direction that book four will take. Very enjoyable series so far.
I recieved these books as part of an ARC program I signed up for. Here's my thoughts-
Book 1, Crystal Dragon - Dragons, magic, magical and mythical creatures, far away magical lands.... This series starter has all the magic you could want for in a book! Looking forward to book 2!
Book 2, Crystal Hope - This book continues on from Book 1 and finds Crystal and Nathan together again facing magic....again! The story flows seamlessly from the first book through the second, easy to read, pretty fast paced and a definite page turner! Book 3 has a lot to live up to!
Book 3, Crystal Lies - Katie has done it again with this 3rd book in the Crystal Dragon series. Once again the story flows seamlessly through the previous books and into this one. The characters Crystal and Nathan are the best of friends, looking to each other for support and encouragement. Can't wait to see where the next book takes us!
Ms. Cherry and I are active authors in the Indie Fantasy Addicts facebook group, and holy smokes am I thrilled that we met there! I presently have a TBR the size of Mount Rushmore but I set them all aside to read the first 3 books of this series - and I am blown away! The world-building! The plot twists! Also, a huge bonus for me - MERMAIDS! If you were to smoosh Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and The Hunger Games all together, you'd have a small notion of the fantastic world lurking inside this series. And - zoinkies! - there were two new characters introduced in the epilogue! I'm very much looking forward to continuing with this series and all of Ms. Cherry's books.
Book 1, Crystal Dragon Book 2, Crystal Hope Book 3, Crystal Lies
Are you looking for that novel that sucks you in deeply and emotionally? This is it. The major world building and characters take you out of this world and into not just one story but many within one. Katie has truly captured the importance of building a world gradually and not to overload you with everything at once.
I’ve fallen deeply and passionately with each character in their own way some with distain and others with love. I cannot wait for the next in this series that should be rereleased at the end of June.
Crystal Dragon Saga includes the first 3 books in the series. A teen girl who was living a normal life and doesn't believe magic is real until she is abducted and transported to a different land where she discovers she is part human part dragon along with being a princess. There are varied magical creatures in this story, powerful enemies and strong friendships. Love this series so far. I highly recommend. Great Job Katie Cherry. This is a voluntary review. Available on Amazon
What an amazing story! I can't wait to read the rest of this series. It is packed with lots of adventure and very strong characters. It definitely kept me up reading when I should have been sleeping! It is clean with some violence so a recommended read for all to enjoy.
I stumbled across these books in a group I'm in, and the description sounded so good! I love the world building in these books. We as the reader get to experience different cultures, people, and societies. Along with the world building, the development of the characters is great! I really liked the MC.
I loved the way she took us on a journey to multiple realms in search of her long lost family. Along the way we learned about acceptance and unconditional love. A true gem!
Not just world building, but several worlds. Crystal and Nathan have many adventures and have many battles to face also. I can't wait to see how the story goes.
I didn’t finish this book. I didn’t even finish the first book. It was a struggle getting as far as I did, and I was falling asleep reading it.
So, on to the problems I had with it...
The writing is odd.
Crystal got mad at Vlad for leaving them alone and eventually at the mercy of the bunnies, but her reaction of blowing up at him for doing so was super childish. She was warned not to go to the forest, and in the very next page she goes to the forest. She was warned, she almost died, and then she blew up at Vlad for getting mad at her for going to the forest. Irritating.
All of the contestants for the games speak the same language. How? How is the language the same, especially if they are from different worlds?
The animosity between Crystal and Vlad is ridiculous. It feels very forced.
The baby dragon the Crystal found wants milk more than meat...? Last I checked, dragons are reptiles. Not mammals. I mean, it’s the author’s world, she can do whatever she wants. It just threw me off. And she named it...Eric...? Good way to disguise that it’s a dragon, I suppose...
Random perspective shift to the hawk in the first book. I jumped to the back of the book, and there are more random character shifts there too.
Why is everything in this world deadly, and kills by putting people to sleep? First the bunnies, now a tree. Crystal and her companions are always being rescued from these deadly things in the forest.
Crystal fought a giant cat, got injured on the shoulder, and passed out from blood loss after. The average human has 4.5-5.5 liters of blood in their body. To pass out from blood loss, you need to lose 30-40% of blood. So Crystal would have had to lose 1.35-1.65 liters of blood. That’s a lot of blood. The only description of her injuries was that she lost a good chunk of muscle and skin. Where on the shoulder was she injured? Obviously the injuries didn’t hit the artery in the shoulder, or she would have died quickly from that. She must not have lost enough blood for it to be obvious, because the members of her group didn’t know she was hurt, nor did they notice her injuries (even though Crystal could look down at it and see how badly she had been hurt). So she’s prideful for not telling them she’s hurt, they’re blind for not noticing torn clothes or blood on the ground or blood on the clothes, and this book is really silly.
The book needs more descriptions. The Soho people? I only know that they have magic and can make themselves invisible. Oh, and the leader is really handsome.
This book just wasn’t for me. I didn’t like the world, the characters, the plot...everything just felt...silly. Maybe it would be better for a younger audience.
Received as an ARC, I am giving my honest review. This story will grab your attention right from the beginning with a treasonous plot to steal the Dragon family's newborn children. One is taken by a long time friend, who is indeed a traitor. The other two are magically hidden and taken to other realms to grow, until they are ready to fufill the prophecy. Their parents are desperate to find their children, and have created a contest to find out which children have certain abilities. What happens next will have you reading well into the night as you enter a world filled with magic, wizards, unearthly creatures, dragons, and danger around every corner. Will the prophecy be revealed as a missing daughter is found? The enemy lies in wait, their chance to overtake the worlds in sight But there are forces to be awoken, as Princess Crystal's true self becomes known, and she takes the fight to win into her heart. Be ready for many twists and turns, nail biting action, breath holding suspense, emotionally charged moments and the need to read more.
Loved the story, hated the scattershot writing. Too many quick scenes with random characters, it was almost too hard to keep track of the storyline. The romantic threesome was a bit offputting, not to mention the constant interests in Crystal. An hour after meeting her, and with no reason, he changes his life. Really? I could see it once, but it's nearly constant. Jealousy and romantic thoughts shortly after professing love to someone else. The story is more a romantic confusion than a tale of magic and coming to terms with it. I'm just glad the constant frequency of sleep ended after the first book. Sleep, injection to knock them out, passing out (even directly after an adrenaline rush), etc. Crystal spent more time trying to get her bearings after waking up than anything else. So many characters to keep track of, especially when we see from their eyes in the story. It needs some sort of transition, especially when the chapter starts with no indication of who the character is we're seeing through. Overall, loved the story. I just wish there were more of it in the 3 book set.
This was a unique story. It has a lot of action and drama with suspense throughout it. Crystal is a bit hard to connect with. At times she seems so strong and brave then other times she is annoying and so very weak. She tends to be hard-headed and doesn’t always listen. Nathan is a great character. He is loyal and strong. The story is well written and is definitely worth reading.
Crystal Hope I have started this book but wasn’t really able to finish. I read about halfway and while I love the story itself the characters are what drive me nuts. They just went through a huge ordeal and then they are suckered in to tricks. They don’t think and that is not something you would think would happen. The writing is beautiful and I would have loved to finish but just can’t seem to get past that one issue for me.
If you like fingernails on a chalkboard, this is the book for you
Crystal is whiny and wishy-washy and super gullible. She's not a hero worth rooting for. Not one of the supporting characters ever encourages her to grow up. She's given adult jobs and acts like a preschooler.
The author switches verb tenses constantly, often in the middle of the paragraph. Also within one paragraph, there is bouncing between first and third person. This makes the sorry story line even more painful to follow. A good editing job may move this book from painful to read to boring.
I'm writing this review after having only read book 1, in the interest of timeliness (although I have every intention of finishing the series & may update my review as needed once I do) — the main attraction for these books is the worldbuilding, no doubt. I found character dialogue often felt a little artificial, and the narrative style is sometimes a little too tell–instead–of–show for my taste, but there's a solid, enjoyable story within that, for sure.
The sample was kinda good so my daughter and I decided to buy the triology. Let me say it's hard not to puke a little it's so cheesey. Feels like it's taking forever to finish. So many inconsistencies and cliches. We don't like the MC at all, she's so phony. Also in the second or third book the author decides to mix all the characters up and add more and we get to follow all of them. Kinda hoping they all get killed here. We:re not done yet but feel like we payed for it so we gotta read it.
The writing is stilted and robotic , the characters lack depth and perception , a shame really as the storyline at first seemed good , but honestly a ten year old child could have written this as the written words just don’t gel together and flow as a story should , maybe others might find it ok but sorry poorly written and not good !
This book set has a wonderful story that has imagination and depth that leaves you wanting more. It has wonderful characters who enchant the reader and the story entwines every character into the story with love, amusement, and intrigue. I love Crystal and Nathan and all of their stories together. I hope to read the rest of this series soon.
I struggled to finish these. The story didn't really make sense and while the premise was interesting their motivations weren't convincing. Which was a pity as the different worlds were well thought out and the conflict was there.
This book has been full of suspense from the first chapter. Hard to put down. Lots of characters you get to know and love! Story line moves very quickly, never a full moment. Overall great books, can't wait to see what's next!
I love all the characters in this series, some more than others. The descriptions are very well written. I wish i could go to these places and meet the people and creatures. I think it would be great as a movie series or tv series
My Grand Daughter enjoyed reading each book. The way each book brought you closer to ... well, you will have to find out for yourself. Well written for any age.
DNF, It started with a lot of manacle dialog but I went on to find I had zero connection with the story. I'll try again another time but for now, I'm putting it down.
