This review was originally posted on Addicted To RomanceI received this book for free from Berkley Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Reckless Road is the latest edition in the Torpedo Ink series by Feehan. And I will admit that I was super nervous about this book, especially considering the certain "kink" that was contained in the previous book in the series and I had no clue where this author would take this book but "whew" thank goodness we found something normal ...normal for Christine Feehan that is. LOL In Reckless Road we have a story where we see more of our Torpedo Ink club and I am always fascinated in seeing how Feehan has been able to build this series yet also connect it to the previous series she has done. But I also found this one to be so unique from beginning to end that held my attention from beginning to end.

Our Hero "Player" is one that has certain psychic gifts where his mental capabilities are put at risk but he has talents the like of which his brothers can't comprehend and at times don't delve into and Player tends to keep it more private. But when his mind is almost shattered and he can barely think straight and barely makes it to the clubhouse in one piece, he finds a beautiful woman who breathes music in every movement, a woman of grace with a talent of belldancing and of Middle Eastern descent. After sharing a beautiful night together, not just of sex but of connecting on a deeper level, Player makes a mistake and shatters Zyah's heart. And now Player will have to get his humble boots on and make restitution to Zyah and prove to her he is genuine in his caring of her. But both their pasts will come together in a way neither expect but Player may have to make a difficult choice ....his brothers or the woman he loves.

In Reckless Road I had such a fascinating time with and my goodness I love seeing the beautiful representation here with a Middle Eastern heroine. I rarely see that in romance and loved it in this book. Zyah is such a beautiful heroine both inside and out and her sweet spirit is addicting, she just draws you in but she does stand her ground with Player but not too much. I appreciated that she didn't force this "groveling" for too long, it actually had a well balanced feel to the story in how relatable it felt. Feehan really works her magic with this story in conveying this romance and the more connecting variables between Player and Zyah.

Series: Torpedo Ink #5
Rating: 2 stars - it was ok

Gedeon “Player” Lazaroff is one of Torpedo Ink’s calmest members. Little rattles him, except when his gift of illusions gets the better of him. One night on the verge of losing it he meets Zyah, a beautiful woman who seduces him with every move and word. Now he just has to convince her to give a chance.

While this series started out pretty good, I feel with each book it gets more repetitive and lacking in story. It had some interesting ideas but just fell flat in the end. Nothing stood out in this book and it will quickly be forgotten.

I liked Player and Zyah, for the most part. They both had interesting abilities, especially Player with his illusions. But their relationship quickly became repetitive and slightly boring. I ended up skimming parts of it because of this.

Overall, this book was just ok. Nothing stands out and it will quickly be forgotten. Feehan’s books have felt very repetitive for a while now and it's possible this will be the last book I read of hers.

Trigger warning:
- Human Trafficking, victims and discussed
- Rape, victims and discussed
- Pedophilia, victims and discussed
- Torture, flashbacks and discussions
- Attempted suicide, mentioned briefly
- Elder abuse

Reckless Road continues the story of the men of Torpedo Ink. I love this series and was excited for this entry. Player hasn't been a huge focus before and I was interested in his story. His psychic talent is fascinating and Reckless Road blends every element about the club I have come to love!

There are parallel plots to Reckless road: old people are being beaten and robbed and the club has stepped in to protect a few; Player's illusions are creating a dangerous alternate reality that could kill everyone. The love story follows both plots and is woven in perfectly. I loved Player and Zyah. Zyah is very grounded and far too kind to everyone. She cares so deeply about people, and she has her own gifts. She thought Player was her soulmate, but then he crushed her. Player loved Zyah from the moment they met, but he pushed her away because he was in danger. God save us all from men who think they know what's best.

Reckless Road is a long book at 480 pages, but it never felt long to me. Its scorching hot, danger filled, and touchingly romantic. Readers who enjoy a touch of the mystical in their romance will delight in Reckless Road and its unique love story.

Hot and spicy plot and characters🔥

The complexity of this plot was off the charts, the intrigue alone is to die for. Wow OMG, I simply cannot believe how fierce this storyline was. This book kept me up all night. Let's talk about the raging laughter at the banter with Jackson and His wife.. I was happy to revisit these two. All in all this book rocks and it has every spices one will indulge in. 🔥💞😊👏

Much better than the previous book, which I hated. Amazon actually refunded my money!
Reckless Road is bit confusing in parts, and still too much repetition about the horrors the Ink went through. However there were actual plots, and some wonderful new characters. I'm looking at you Amat!
There was was also some delightful time spent with Hannah Drake Harrington, her husband Jonas, and the small shop and tea room, The Floating Hat, that Hannah owned in Sea Haven. (Now I guess I have to go back and reread Feehan's Drake Sisters series. Oh no! Quelle horreur! Can't wait)
Also fun to see who's story is going to be told next in the series. I am always wrong in my guesses.
This wasn't an ARC, but I wanted to pass on this I enjoyed this much more than Desolation Road, for which I had taken the time to write a very negative review.
I'm pleased I gave this series another chance, I enjoyed this ride with Torpedo Ink.

Each one of these books I read makes me love these guys and their women more. Player and Zyah are certainly no different. When scorching love scenes, tearful moments of shame and pain and absolute adoration from these men make each one of these books imprint on your heart.

Third time is not the charm. I have previously read 'Judgment Road' and 'Vengeance Road' of the Torpedo Ink Series, and very much like them—I am unable to find anything worth mentioning. It’s a very repetitive, drawn out story with uninteresting characters whose chemistry was non-existent and a boring plot that had me yawning more than once. It fell flat to me and because of that I was unable to connect with this novel. The only mildly interesting bit was the psychic abilities that each MC member has. Besides that, there is nothing that truly stands out and it wasn’t worth more of my time and energy to complete this.

Reckless Road is the fifth book in Torpedo Ink series and it’s a great edition to to the Torpedo storyline. The focus of the story was in the main couple and brilliantly weaved in the myriad of characters in the Caspar community.

The scene in the Floating Hat tea shop between Preacher and Sabelia was hilarious, watching these two spar had me laughing out loud.

Gedeon “Player” Lazaroff has a unique psychic gift of being able to weave illusions. Zyah Gamal has her own natural gift, a deep connection with Gaia wherein she can connect with the essence of a person. Zyah compliments Player on many levels, wherein he, like all the Torpedo Ink members, survived a horrific childhood of violent rapes, torture, and beatings by pedophiles, Zyah was raised by loving parents and grandparents. It is her empathy and gift that connects Zyah and Player on a soul deep level.

Zyah wanted “someone to love her, not just need her.” Player needed someone to see him, without judgment, not even his Torpedo brothers and sisters knew the true depth of his brokenness. It was refreshing to read about a couple wherein the female was whole and traumatized, whose emotions and feelings were organic and healing.

There were steamy sex scenes but not gratuitous, the connection between this couple was based on love and respect for each other.

Very highly recommended!

Romantic, Sexy, Psychic Twinkle, and a Sci Fi Twist

Reckless Road is a beautiful, and touching love story. Player and Zhay's connection was immediate. But, Player makes mistakes like his fellow Torpedo Ink brothers when they find women willing to accept them the way they are. I loved how Player went to work and immediately started making amends to Zhay. Part of Player's issue along with PTSD, is he doesn't believe he brings the same value to the team as his brothers, and sisters. Add in the secrets he keeps that his illusions can become reality, and kill. His nightmares of childhood abuse have taken on the appearance of the White Rabbit/Sorbacov. Even in death Sorbacov still haunts Player. Zhay's a wonderful character, and assists, and brings Player a degree of peace during the nightmares by being psychically linked. She has an affinity to the earth, and can tell when someone is telling the truth or lying. She's soft, without any hard edges, caring, loving, stubborn when she wronged, and won't allow anyone to mistreat her. Their sexual chemistry is off the chart. Very sexy!

There's a group of robbers that are targeting the elderly in Casper, and Sea Haven, and Zhay's grandmother unfortunately is attacked, beaten, and robbed. Why do the robbers keep returning to Mama Anat's house? What are they looking for? This is Player's way in to make amends to Zhay by watching out for her grandmother, and Mama Anat helps Player view himself differently, and admonishes him to fight for Zhay's love.

There's an unexpected Sci Fi twist to the story that I really enjoyed. We see old friends, and meet new ones, and maybe a possible love interest for Preacher..

An enchanting addition to this really phenom series! Player is such an unexpected character as he bucks the norm from other Torpedo Ink characters. Scarred and wounded in ways that separates him from the others, he's been hiding the truth about his abilities from the others since he was five. This truth forces him to be apart from the others and their feeling safest with each other mentality. Meeting Zyah when he is at the burn out threshold that skates the danger line, he awakens to the belief that she was a dream. Finding out that she was real and not the night time dream gift from the others is shattering when he realizes he made her cry.

Not knowing the depth of Player's crash, Zyah thought they had a real connection and had put herself completely out their during their night together. Getting handed money and shoved out the door undermines her confidence in her own abilities. Her family and gifts are supposed to lead her towards her destined mate and happiness, but she should have known not to trust someone who's name is Player.

Thrust together due to circumstance, Zyah is determined to ignore Player but danger forces them into close proximity and only Zyah can help put Player back together when he's almost killed protecting her and her grandmother from intruders. Zyah's family history, Player's torment, and supporting character stories all make for a great addition to the Torpedo Ink series. I loved that we got to see Hannah from the original, Drake Sisters series, and where she has landed, which also teasing more of Preacher's story. Lana, finding her path, and getting to see Alena restaurant were also great teasers of more to come.

These characters and their crazy history, are really interesting and fun to read. Each new addition to the series is a jump at the front of my reading list favorite!

Reckless Road by Christine Feehan is the newest edition in the Torpedo Ink series and it was classic Feehan story that I love and enjoy. Gedeon “Player” Lazaroff is returning home from a job and is holding on by a thread and thinks he’s in the clear, when he finds a beautiful woman in his bedroom. Talking to Zyah soothes his mind and they really connect so they spend a beautiful night together. Player makes a mistake in dismissing her thinking she’s a dream and now will do what it takes to get her to forgive him.

Zyah has returned to Sea Haven to take care of her grandmother and does a friend a favor and goes to a party at the Torpedo Inc clubhouse. When she meets Player she also feels a connection and opens herself up to him completely. Then he tells her to go. She’s ready to chalk Player off as a bad mistake but she wants to help him when he saves her life. As he recovers they spend more time together and it becomes a struggle for both of them to find some balance. When they stumble upon a big mystery they need to figure it out and find themselves in danger. With the help of his brothers and a few of the locals, Player makes inroads with Zyah, and it shows her how much he really cares for her and not for what she can do for him.

What I liked best about Reckless Road was the storyline itself and how all the brothers and townspeople got involved in this one. There were dual stories happening at the same time and the main characters had their hands full with so much to deal with at once. There was a nice balance to each of their developments and some added humor that involved Sheriff Jonas Harrington and his wife Hannah. The main characters love story didn’t involve any kink except for their supernatural powers they each possess. I was a little nervous to read the new story after the last release and felt a relief to see that it was ‘normal’ for a paranormal Feehan story. I thoroughly enjoyed this story especially the heroine. She was a strong woman who knew her strengths, very loyal and compassionate with her grandmother and her new friends. She is definitely going to keep Player on his toes for sure. Feehan continues to set more in place with each new story and developing a good foundation for the Torpedo Ink series. Reckless Road was full of intrigue and danger, family, romance and a dose of humor to make this a good read.

Zyah is just at the party to be a designated driver so she gets permission to use one of the vacant bedrooms to practice her belly dancing. So when Player walks in and asks her to stay and talk with him, she does. They end up doing a lot more than talking and afterward when he gives her a handful of cash and tells her to leave, she's hurt and humiliated.

Zyah is not a hooker like Player thought she was so she's more than a little disgusted with him and herself and hopes to never see him. But he knows he made a huge mistake with her, he had been awake for three days and didn't realize what he was doing. So the next day he has his friends helping track her down so he can make things right and hopes that Zyah will give him another chance. He and his friends find out that Zyah had come to her grandmother's home after men broke in and threatened her grandmother and beat her up so now Zyah was looking for a new job closer to her grandmother so she could be there to take care of her.

There were several break-ins and assaults in that town but Zyah and her grandmother didn't understand why the burglars came back to her grandmother's house more than once. They must be getting faulty information about what she could have in her home from someone. Because Player wants to keep Zyah safe, he's there when another break-in happens at Zyah's home and he's able to stop it but not before he gets really hurt. Zyah and another member of his club come and are able to help heal him with their psychic gifts but it takes weeks for him to get better and in that time something strange starts to happen to him because he builds bombs in his head that can become real when he doesn't have tight control over his psychic gifts.

While Zyah and Player are slowly getting closer and getting to know one another a lot better, they have to deal with something strange happening and someone being able to spy on them in a weird way. Then they find out that someone in the community is helping the burglars and I had that wrong. I didn't realize who it was until it was revealed. All the members of Torpedo Ink had horrible childhoods but that brought them a lot closer now. So they all gather around to help Player, Zyah, and her grandmother. I really liked this book and will definitely be reading more books as they come out. I would recommend reading this series in order since there are so many characters and storylines going on.

Player and Zyah's story is tied to the energies of the earth. When barefoot, Zyah can tell when someone is lying and can learn things about another person's life. Player's psychic gift is the ability to create an alternate reality using illusion. If he holds the illusion too long, Player gets migraines and his mind fractures. It is on such a night he meets Zyah. She is practicing belly dancing in his room at the clubhouse. He opens his bedroom door, smells the Middle Eastern scents, sees the candlelight flickering, and hears the sound of Middle Eastern music and tickling bells. Somehow Zyah eases his migraine and heals his fractured mind. Thinking the whole evening was a dream, Player rudely pushes Zyah off his bed and tells her she was well worth the money his brothers paid her. To add insult to her humiliation, he gives Zyah a thousand dollar tip, which she leaves on his dresser.

The characterization of the protagonists is superbly accomplished. Even the reappearance of the Torpedo Ink brothers and sisters, coupled with their wives and children, added a sense of harmony -- completeness -- to the story. Mama Anat, Zyah's grandmother, was an anchor to Zyah during the conflicts in her life. The plot was typical romance, but the subplots kept the interest of the story focused for this reader. The mystery of what gang was robbing the elderly and beating them up was just as intriguing as Player's illusion of a mystery bomb he's building. The descriptions were so real the reader could imagine being there in the story. The pacing kept pace with the tension and atmosphere of the novel. The adult scenes were hot but not kinky like the first books in the series. There is adult language and some of the triggers are child abuse and torture, rape and elder abuse.

Amazing Book

I have followed the Torpedo Ink series since the very first book came out and each and every one of them have been 5+*** reads. Reckless Road was no different. This author has always brought the men and women of Torpedo Ink MC to life and breaks my heart with what they have been through every time.

This is Player's story. As with all Torpedo Ink MC, Player has a special ability but along with that comes danger. Then one night when he was near breaking and his head ready to explode a beautiful woman was in his room so he had to decide after the best and most intense night of his life if Ayah was real or one of his illusions. Thinking she had to be an illusion he had said some things that broke her heart. Now it is his mission to have Ayah see how much he loves her and needs her in his life. She heals not only his head but his soul as well.

Their intense connection was epic and their story was mind boggling. I have always loved how these men and women were always there to protect the innocent each with their own special abilities. I always look forward to see what this author has in store next for Torpedo Ink MC.

4.25 stars--RECKLESS ROAD is the fifth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult TORPEDO INK erotic, paranormal, MC romance series, a spin off from the author’s Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series which in turn is a spin off from the Drake Sisters series. This is Gedeon ‘Player’ Lazaroff, and Zyah Gamal’s story line. RECKLESS ROAD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: RECKLESS ROAD contains scenes, and makes reference to voyeurism, graphic violence, rape, murder, torture, child prostitution, and abuse against children, women and men, and may not be suitable for more sensitive readers. The violence is a part of the history and lives of the Torpedo Ink crews. The eighteen original Torpedo Ink members are the sole survivors of a Russian pedophile ring, and as such work towards rescuing children and women in similar situations.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Zyah and Player) RECKLESS ROAD follows in the aftermath of Player’s return to the Torpedo Ink compound following a recent road trip. With the ability to create lifelike illusions, Player’s mind continues to fracture, and his own grip on reality begins to falter. Believing his ‘brothers’ have procured him the services of an exotic dancer, Player indulges for one night, only to discover the woman, Zyah Gamal is no wh*re but his fated mate. Hoping to make amends, Player enlists the help of his Torpedo Ink family but all is not well in the seaside town of Caspar when a series of home invasions escalates, and Zyah and her grandmother have been targeted on more than one occasion. With the Torpedo Ink members keeping watch over Zyah and Mama Ant, Player is ambushed, and spends his recovery with Zyah and her grandmother but the psychic fall-out of his injury worsens, and threatens the people he knows and loves. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Zyah and Player, and the potential fall-out as Player’s mind continues to deteriorate, and the break in reveals a familiar pattern and foe.

Gedeon ‘Player’ Lazaroff believes his psychic gifts have caused more heartache and pain than have done any good for his brothers and sisters in Torpedo Ink. As the fall-out of his psychic gift continue to haunt and further destroy what’s left of his mind, Player will get some much needed healing and help from the woman with whom he is falling in love. Zyah Gamal moved to Caspar in an effort to be closer to her beloved grandmother but Zyah never expected to fall for a man who would break her heart, a man who is broken both inside and out. Time spent with Player reveals a man whose tortured past continues to inflict wounds that refuse to heal.

The relationship between Player and Zyah begins as a one night stand that quickly spirals out of control. Believing she had found the man that called to her heart, Zyah would be pushed aside by a man whose demons rode very close to the surface. Player never expected to find his own happily ever after but making amends to Zyah is about to push our hero over the edge. The $ex scenes are erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful powerful and energetic secondary and supporting characters move of whom we have met throughout the previous series or two. We are introduced to Zyah’s grandmother Mama Anat, as well as Hannah Drake ’s (Sea Haven series) assistant Sabelia. The requisite evil has many faces.

RECKLESS ROAD, like the previous instalments, continues to focus on the graphic details, rape, torture and abuse inflicted upon the characters as children, children trained to be killers and assassins. The PTSD and constant reminders push at the members of Torpedo Ink, leaving guilt, grief and loss in its’ wake.

RECKLESS ROAD is a story of family, relationships, secrets and lies; of pain, tragedy and heart break; of betrayal, vengeance, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic, dark, staggering and raw; the romance is edgy ; the characters are broken, wounded, and tragic.

Love this story and what it adds to the Torpedo Ink series.
We start off learning why Player was so quiet in previous books, come to know his psychic gifts and what happens with them when he is tired, has used them too long and migraines begin. We meet the heroine, Zyah, who has amazing psychic gifts herself. We learn she can sooth Player, distract him, and help him control his overwrought abilities and the danger they can bring to innocent people and those he cares about…a danger he has never told the Torpedo ink members. And yes, we see Player, exhausted and a bit delusional fall back onto the code Czar instilled in them for their safety and insult Zyah in the most insulting way a man can.

What follows is a beautifully written paranormal tale of a journey to love, through the use of psychic gifts and connection as they try to solve his psychic chaos that’s putting everyone in danger. At the same time reality takes Torpedo Ink on a hunt for thieves and murderers!
Zyah’s a strong woman who’s always known love and must learn what it’s like to love a man who has broken and tortured soul. Player’s a man who doesn’t know love or know how receive it. It’s an emotional must read- must experience story! Just know it includes a “I can’t believe Christine did that to him” plot twist!

My heart breaks for Player as this story reveals what his childhood was like. How Sorbacov separated him, made him fear failure, the guilt he carried for his actions. How he used his gifts to make the others happy, even if it tortured him. However, what was more heart breaking was how we see Player try to convince Destroyer he belongs with the Torpedo Ink family, deserved his spot with them; how he soothed Zyah, telling her that the facts had to be shared and discovered before judgement was passed… yet he denies himself the worthiness of both. A man set apart. The self-imposed distance he keeps to protect those he cares about, those he loves but feels different from. Those he has killed with and killed for. He's a man driven to protect others no matter what it means for him.

The fact that Zyah doesn’t reject him or judge him makes him feel more shame. He wasn’t worthy of her. Her grandmother, Mama Anat is a driving force to move him forward, with wise words and a kind heart. She grows to be special to him and all of Torpedo Ink as they become part of their lives.

How he proves he’s ready to move forward is definitely an enjoyable part of this must read story … Love the lessons he learns through SeaHaven friends and even the advice from his Sisters. This book is full of strong intelligent women! Love their addition to the plot that helps Zyah and Player move along the road to a Happily Ever After.

As their relationship grows, Player and Zyah follow their psychic connection to try and solve what’s disrupting his gifts, making him a danger to everyone. His issues finally force him to tell Czar the secrets he’s kept. I hope the reaction from Czar and the other members of Torpedo Ink, who also point out how many times he saved them, take away his guilt. Close the distance and his feeling of odd man out. Especially since bringing Zyah and Mama Anat into the fold, extending friendship to others, he's brought the best gift to Torpedo Ink so far.

They both learn that being open to giving and receiving love, happily, includes the hot sex and help they can give each other, too. That its the key to being partners on all parts of their lives...they have someone to move forward with.

They spend so much time looking for clues in his past to solve his psychic issues, they almost miss the true danger staring them in the face! Oh the revelations that come from it when they figure it out! And Torpedo Ink, along with law enforcement from Sea Haven close in and deliver karma to those threatening the elderly in Caspar and Sea Haven. Bringing action and the teamwork they do so well!

As usual, one member finding love brings more to the rest of the club, too. But I believe more so in this journey... I love how Zyah, Mama Anat, and the community of Sea Haven (some favorites!) and Caspar help the members of Torpedo Ink understand more of their new normal. The moments of humor and bonding between them all are so well written! The events that move the plot reminds us how special Sea Haven is and shows how Caspar is beginning to become not just a place to exist but a home for these tortured souls. I can’t wait to revisit this series and see where they go from here!

When hearing all the teasers for this book about Alice in Wonderland, I was wondering how the plot was going to play out as I'm not that big of a fan of AIW. It turns out I absolutely loved the plot/story line (which shouldn't be a surprise that's why Christine's a favorite author).

With Player's (Hero) "mess up" in the beginning of the story plus his realization that Zyah (heroine) is "the one", Player was desperate to redeem himself. Thankfully he went to Hannah (from Drake sisters series) for help rather than his brother and sisters of Torpedo Ink (even though they are all learning and getting a little better at the relationship thing). As always I loved the hilarious banter between all the characters!! The way they all were with Anat (Zyah's grandmother) was so heartwarming. I also loved that both Zyah and Anat were wonderful strong woman that didn't take bull from anyone but also had an open heart and mind to accept and understand others.

I loved the connection between Player and Zyah ...the way she could help him by healing and easing his mind. For some reason their connection reminded me alot of Jackson and Elle (my favorite couple Drake sisters series). This connection helped make them into such a wonderful strong couple willing to understand, compromise, and give each other what they needed.

Such a great ending....loved how the mystery was solved as it had me worried there for a minute (especially for Anat). So glad Torpedo Ink has more family to love them and for them to love!! Great addition to the series!!

(4.5) Be still my heart. Player in Hannah's shop had me in swoons, tears and laughter. The interactions with all were priceless I absolutely loved our big, tortured motorcycle guys watching out for the elderly, their gentleness and protectiveness. Player has layers to him we never knew, and the guilt this man carries. Oh my. Zyah brought tranquility, strength, intelligence and love to this series. My one issue is we all know Jacksons and Deverau from her Sea Haven Series and they are no push over, so I am having a little bit of trouble believing they are not seeing through some of the happenings with the club. This is a Christine Feehan novel so it had the non stop hot and steamy and then some. This is also her darker series in that all of the characters have endured beatings, whippings, abuse, sexual, physical and mental when the were children and teens. It is beyond gut wrenching, but the worse part is several levels of this goes on everyday all over the world. This series is about surviving, hoping and loving, At the end of her book Christine puts organizations and numbers you can reach out to help with, or reach out for help. Thank you for the arc, I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Okay.

This was a good addition to the Torpedo Ink series in the sense that both the hero and heroine are people of sense and their relationship does not come across as toxic as some of the HEAs in previous books in this series. Don’t get me wrong, this is still incredibly dark romance with potentially very triggering explicit child abuse content repeated multiple times. There is also explicit elder abuse content as well. So, despite this book being “lighter” and less toxic in terms of the relationship, it still needs to be approached with a lot of care if you may be at all susceptible these triggers.

The premise is that Player is an illusionist who can create entire alternate reality scenes to help his fellow Torpedo Ink members evade capture. However, this skill takes a heavy toll on his mental health, which is only salved by the mysterious Zyah, whom he randomly meets one night whilst dealing with the aftermath of sustaining an illusion for a long time. When Player accidentally blows his chance with Zyah, he gets another opportunity to win her back when he discovers that she and her beloved grandmother are in danger.

This is probably my least favorite series that this author is writing right now, for the mere fact that I find it the darkest in general and the one with the most toxic heroes. I was a little disappointed when I discovered that the main character of this was going to be Player rather than one of the more popular, more pressing characters from the first 4 books in the series. Player was very much a far adjacent side character in previous books so while I was excited about a new book by CF, I wasn’t thrilled it was Player. However, I quite liked this. Yes the endless descriptions of child torture and child abuse in every form imaginable was very difficult to read and repeated a little to the point of being gratuitous, but the actual story itself, the love story between Player and Zyah, the relationship between the Torpedo Ink family and Amat, Zyah’s grandmother, the siblinghood of their shared common experience??? It was absolutely gorgeous and I was here for it. I think Player and Zyah had great communication. Like you’d expect from a CF book, it was very spicy, but it also wasn’t too much. Plot wasn’t sacrificed just because it was an erotic romance. I found this very readable, with limited dragging in the plot. I look forward as usual to whatever this author has coming out next.

This book literally felt like filler. Nothing was done to advance the very thin persisting plot that threads this series together. Player has been less of a background character and more of a name on a list of bikers. The story was boring, I think about a third of the book Player is in bed with a head wound. There was an entire chapter where he was shopping at a witchy version of bath and bodyworks for lotion to massage her feet and bath bombs. The ONLY thing this book has done was bring Maestro, Mechanic, Preacher and Transporter more into the foreground, but those guys don’t have a book coming up. It’s just Savage and Master up next and Master is still a shadow hovering in the background. Poor planning on the authors part. Also Destroyer is just the new Savage. Same personality. Rinse. Repeat.
The robbers angle ended too abruptly with very little payoff. You knew who the snitch was from the get go. At the same time where we’re any of the other characters? Was Player whose recovering from being shot in the head the only one working on this? You’d think at least one other member would be doing some detective work. Nope. Y’all have the money, buy code more computers. They LET robbers hurt more people by just their suspicious inaction.
Then there was the EVIL DRAWING with its EVIL EYES emanating malice. Turned out it was just a stupid portal to her cousin and I guess he’d been watching them bang? Ok on that subject can we talk about inappropriate times and places to have sex? Like in your grandmas house after she was just robbed and beaten so badly she is in a wheelchair? Or all that sexy for play in front of grandma and the cop? Who gets off on doing sexy things in front of their grandma? Don’t answer that, please. I don’t want to hear about anyone’s sexcapades around their close blood relatives. I might 🤮
I Will NOT be reading another Feehan series. This shit is boring and at this point a serious exercise in masochism.

Reckless Road
Torpedo Ink Series Book 5
Release Date: February 9, 2021
Review Copy Provided by the Publisher

Where to start with this one? First, I DNF’d this book. It was...weird. If I’m being honest, I think I would have enjoyed it if I smoked a joint or had some shrooms before reading it. It was that kind of weird. The whole white rabbit running around and other Alice in Wonderland references made me roll my eyes more than once. The heroine, Zyah, could connect with people’s thoughts when she took her shoes off and put her bare feet on the ground. You see why I think being stoned would have been beneficial? Honestly, I can’t even talk about the characters or their chemistry because I couldn’t get past this other crazy stuff. This book was nutters even for paranormal romance standards, in my opinion.

I’ve liked the other books in the series, but this one was just not my jam.

There are time that in this series the guys come off as not good and while it started out that way for Player, he quickly remedied that for Zyah. I really liked that Player came clean with his actions to the club and his brothers and sisters and wanted them all to help him find Zyah and get into her good graces.

Things were rocky at the start, but then with Zyah having to take care of Player it helped, she saw him when he was vulnerable and could see a different side of him and how far he went to protect her before he was hurt. From there things were pretty good, they just had to figure out what was going on in town with all the "oldies" getting robbed and beaten up. Even that was fairly easy to see what was going on. I was more interested in what was going on with Player's mind and his bomb buildilng skills. It seemed like it was being built up a lot, then that angle of the story fizzled out at the end. Very underwhelming. I was glad that things with Player and Zyah ended on a high note, both deserve the happiness.

On a side note, I loved the scenes with Player and Hannah Drake Harrington. Player wasn't sure about Hannah, but he went ahead and trusted her to great success.

Player know he is beyond exhaustion, he knows that the probability of making mistakes is a reality in this state, he doesn’t know that worst mistake he’s ever made will result. Arriving home and find the beautifully seductive Zyah in his room, making the fatal error of assuming she is a gift from his brothers. Player knows it will be a long road back to her heart

Zyah, believed completely that her gift would lead her to the one man. Player destroys her trust in her gift, her judgment and her trust in him. Her grandmother’s health is now first priority.

Reckless Road is one of the best examples of Ms. Feehan’s ability to weave an emotional, funny, intensely sensual story. We see the fun of the I nterfence of his well meaning siblings to help him redeem himself with Zyah, the softer side of Savage and Destroyer is revealed, a sense of community with Sea Haven and Caspar evolves with the shear fun of Hannah Drake. Her antics and wisdom add another layer of family for all the Torpedo Ink members. You also have the ever present teaser hints of coming stories sprinkled in to make her fans mark their calendars for the next installment.

Another brilliantly written installment to the Torpedo Ink series.

I picked the first book up in a bookstore because I wanted to read something I don’t usually go for, and a book about a biker club certainly fit the bill. I was pleasantly surprised with the fantasy element in this series too. It isn’t too central that it changes the genre of the novel, and the use of the powers is subtle so it’s a nice addition to the storyline. This book stands out for me from the others, as Player’s ‘gift’ is so unusual. It was quite cool imagery (obviously not for him) to imagine the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland running around the room, and the Caterpillar blowing smoke rings around peoples’ head. I read this book in 2 days (don’t you just love a weekend?) and I just really wish there were more I could read. We also got to learn more about what the club endured as children, and it is just as horrifying as I thought; you can understand the ways the characters are undeniably screwed up because of their individual experiences.
You should definitely check out this series—be warned though, it has its raunchy moments and although the abuse doesn’t go into too much detail, it can be quite upsetting to think about. Deffo for no one under 18.

"Came in begging us to look at the security tape after the part. Wanted to see if his dream girl was real."

This was unfortunately disappointing.
I love the series so much and I guess I created such high expectations each time and I got disappointed this time.

Why I found this unlikable compared to the others, I find the plotline very slow and dull.
It felt like there wasn't much going on. Half of the book we were in Zyah's room and the thing going on in Player's head made up like 10% of the ending only.
When I felt like it could be so much more.
I didn't get the romance I wanted, it was popping in here and there.

I do still enjoy the dark fantasy paranormal of the book.
I love seeing more personality, humour and teasing among the other characters.
More dialogue and scenes which only made me want Christine Feehan to write everyone's storyline.
Especially Preacher and Destroyer.

He flashed her a smile. He'd been told more than once he had a 'killer ' smile and could melt the panties off a woman if he tried. He was trying now."

Being a huge fan of this series, I was excited to learn more about Player as a character. Each of the men in this series are truly gone for their woman, so I was curious what kind of woman could handle him and his visions.

Zyah as a character was lovely. I enjoyed her strength and independence starting out. She was successful in her own right, but was ready to live a simpler life. So when she meets Player at a party, she is dancing to calm herself in his bedroom. He mistakes her for a dream, because she is calming his mind.

Both characters have powers, and those powers work in tandem in an unexpected way for me. This book was fun, but a bit harder for me to connect to than the last few. I still enjoyed it, and as always, the steam factor is sky high!

Zyah and Player are perfect. From the first moment they met they were completely in sync.
I loved that CF brought in characters from previous series. Made it all come together as one. I wasn't sure if I'd like the Alice in Wonderland feel but I was pleasantly surprised. Can't wait for the next one.

I wish somebody could explain to me why I keep reading this series. It's so bad. Maybe so bad it's good? Not really, but I'll go with that for lack of another explanation. It's definitely different, definitely for readers who like dark romance - no meet cutes here, and definitely crazy plot point on top of crazy plot point. You'll need to read the prior books. Book 1 is technically the last book in Feehan's Sisters of the Heart series instead of Torpedo Ink #1. If I'm being fair, though, this one was significantly better than the last few books of the series. I'll give it 3, because why not?

Fantastic. One of the best so far in the series. I didn’t want it to end.
