Her moment of triumph was finally at hand. Or at least that’s what Daisy thought before everything flipped on its axis and went to straight to hell. But that was par for the course in Daisy’s life, and she was becoming somewhat accustomed to expecting the unexpected. This, however, took it to a whole different level. One far worse than she would ever have thought possible.

With her home in jeopardy, her loved ones in harm’s way, and her plans for all of their survival in doubt, Daisy once more found herself forced to step up and take charge, fighting the hard battle she so desperately wanted nothing to do with.

Unfortunately, the alien forces that had devastated her planet seemed to be much more of a threat than she had ever realized, and if she didn’t move quickly, whatever fleeting victories she had achieved in the past would soon be negated by her losses in the near future.

With a rag-tag team of scrappy survivors, Daisy reluctantly set out on what was her most difficult and audacious effort yet. But if she somehow succeeded, she might just save not only her own world, but others’ worlds as well.

Daisy's Gambit
The Clockwork Chimera, Book 3
By: Scott Baron
Narrated by: Vivienne Leheny
This series gets better and better! Love the new book cover design too! The androids, two types of aliens, humans, and enhanced humans are in it for the prize, Earth! So much action, friendships deceit, planning, and suspense goes into the war. Loss and grief, love and hugs. This is a witty, charming, never dull book where the androids are often more human than the people!
The end was a "Wow!" moment.😁
The narration was too notch!

Publisher’s Description: With a rag-tag team of scrappy survivors, Daisy reluctantly set out on what was her most difficult and audacious effort yet. But if she somehow succeeded, she might just save not only her own world, but others’ worlds as well.

Review: This picks up where Daisy left off, being an asshat. Maybe we just accept that Daisy will never change from being a self-centered arse and enjoy the story.

So that’s what I did. And, amazingly, the Sun broke over the mountains and I was splashed with color and warmth. The supporting caste in this rendition really pushes this novel to greater heights. Joshua, Freya, Craaxiit and even the deranged AI’s round out some pretty well developed characters. Daisy/Sarah/Biggusdickus….not so much.

Thankfully, Biggus, is in a coma for most of the novel so cheers all around and I am buying. Yay! Sarah you just can never get away from as she is adjunct to Daisy’s consciousness and plies the dialogue with patterned responses. So just when you think this stoopid romance is done for, Biggusdickus suddenly wakes up with his twinkle and smirky wink still intact and Daisy loves him more because his AI unit is burnt out, so that means he’s a real human she can hump without having sybian thoughts.

The ending promises some interesting adventures with Freya but then we find ourselves suddenly back where we started. Fug. Still a good time was had reading this as the movement is non-stop.

Scott Baron (author) and Vivienne Leheny (narrator) bring the third exciting audiobook in “The Clockwork Chimera” series to our listening ears in “Daisy’s Gambit”. Here the listener gets the pleasure of tagging along with Daisy and her rather odd team of helpers (AI, human, and alien) while they attempt to save to world and much more. The series has something for everyone to keeping them engaged, along with great storytelling and narration. There are spaceships, lunar bases, time travel and aliens blended together in a compelling story; all in about ten hours of audio. If you are one who likes a good space opera with elements of dystopian or apocalyptic genre thrown in, you will do good to not only pick up this audiobook, but the entire ongoing series.

The audiobook opens in the middle of a firefight where the previous book left off. We have many of the same characters and we welcome a few new additions as well. Sarah, Freya, and Vincent along with many AI counterparts are here to take back what was theirs. In the first couple of chapters, the author does a good job of providing prologue details which help the listener put thing into context. The team is still battling the hostel Chithid forces and needs to protect themselves from the powerful alien loyalist groups. The team needs to work with Earth’s computer systems that were not infected during the first assault while also trying to get to Colorado which becomes quite the journey. Daisy will need to lead all her forces to prevent the Earth falling completely into the enemy’s hands, or destroy it trying to save it. Daisy utilizes her newly gained weapon which was genetically engineered just for her; I’m jealous. As the story unfolds, we see there are so many lies and so much distrust across all the characters that everyone questions everyone else’s actions and motives, yet they still understand there is a single objective that must be reached. The team’s hope of victory often changes to despair and then to not knowing their next moves as the story progresses. It is quite an emotional rollercoaster of a listen and you will feel a part of it along the way. Victory at such a cost is not something that is usually welcomed nor desired. If the early computer systems cannot be fixed, all hope may be lost.

What I like about Mr. Baron’s writing is the deep character development and consistent nature of those characters across the series. Although characters grow and change, their personalities remain the same throughout. I find his research and use of rather unique weapons and technology to be better than other works I have listened too. I find his ability to inject pop-culture references and slight retorts welcomed for an overall darker themed tale. The use of the two battling forces reminds me of Star Wars with the rebel and the alliance parties fighting for their respective sides, here in this story we have the rebels and the loyalists. Mr. Baron also does a good job of developing the worlds the listener is taken too in the audiobook. I felt the scenes are well described and there are quite a few of them.

Switching to the audiobook’s narration, I can say that I have been enjoying Vivienne Leheny professional quality and consistency along with a few of the audio effects she adds. Her voice is smooth and enjoyable to listen to. She does a good job of voicing the many human and non-human characters. Here again, she is very consistent with the voicing and inflections of the characters as the series grows. I do not recall any noticeable artifacts with the audio such as swallowing, background noise, etc. Just clean and crisp professionally produced material.

For parents and younger listeners, this audiobook, along with the previous ones in the series, contain a fair amount of vulgar language. There are also some rather dark themes and graphic violence which may not be appropriate for younger listeners. This series is more for mature audiences as it also contains some adult subject matter found nearer the end of the book. If any of these easily offend you, I would recommend you not listen to the series.

In summary, the audiobook continues to be a bit darker than Mr. Baron’s “Dragon Mage” series, yet it feels like there is more depth and complexity to the story. I enjoy the author’s story telling abilities along with his capacity to keep a consistent plot line over the books released thus far. The narration was clean, but it does have some special effects which I know a few people do not enjoy in their audiobooks. Again, if you are looking for a science fiction story with a dystopian bend, I would suggestion you give this audiobook a listen.

Another Fantastic Story

Daisy’s Gambit, the third book in The Clockwork Chimera series starts off where the last book left off (obviously). There is a little bit of a reminder of everything that happened but not enough to completely side track the story. Baron jumps right into this one – taking Daisy into the heart of Montana in search of one of the missile silos.

As with the first two books in this series – this one starts off fast and never lets off of the gas pedal. Baron is able to weave in really great storytelling into the action scenes and each action scene allows the story to progress along and you don’t feel like you’re gasping for breath either. Every time I think that he’s going to let up he doesn’t, but he also allows the reader to prepare for it when there is a slight lull.

I couldn’t have predicted where this book was going to go even if I’d tried. Baron completely shocked me with Daisy’s Gambit and I loved every minute of it. He was able to pull the wool over my eyes and I’m okay with that. The ending was awesome and I would be happy if it ended here (but I know it doesn’t). I like when a book like this has a real ending even though the series is still going.

Overall, a really enjoyable book and probably my favorite in the series. Similar to Baron’s other series but different enough to feel new. The thing that really shines in every Baron book I’ve read is his characters. He’s able to write them so they jump off the page. Daisy is great, she’s feisty, smart, and thinks on her feet. She’s a great protagonist and easily one of my favorite characters.

The narration by Vivienne Leheny really shines in the third book – allowing her to voice more characters along with the ones that we’re already familiar with. She’s the perfect voice for Daisy and really helps this already great book shine brighter.

My original plan was to take a break and read something else for a bit.

Suffice it to say, I just bought the next two books and will probably spend the rest of the day with them.

I am well and truly hooked! (And thank god Scott put all of these out at the same time, or I'd be dying for more).

We continue Daisys epic quest to save the Earth, and let me tell ya it's not easy. But somehow, with Murphy against them, they prevail!

I don't know why but I always thought something was wrong with Joshua, like he was infected in a different way. But I guess that was wrong, and I was very very heartbroken when he was gone. Joshua was an amazing character.

But he still didn't beat Freya. I love Freya, she's absolutely adorable and even smarter than Daisy, I swear!

Anddd while I could definitely go on and on, I really want to get to the next book now. Go buy it. It's great.

I've really been enjoying this series and every book is better than the previous one. This book is the icing on the cake for me, well, so far anyway.

A great story, well told. Action-packed, easy to read and to follow. The characters come into their own. They know who they are, what they are doing, and where they should be. needless to say that things do not quite work out as planned. Very sad in places. These parts may rip your heart to pieces if you are an emotional soul, like me.

The humour is excellent, and had me giggling out loud. There's a little (sorry, a HUGE) excitable star emerges from the shadows. Fantastic!

I received Book Three and Book Two when I purchased Book One, as part of a special deal. I voluntarily read and have honestly reviewed all three books. All opinions are my own. I have purchased the rest of this series as I want to find out what happens next.

Full witty Daisy is back! That's better. The last remaining genetically enhanced humans face off against the Ra'az alongside their cyborg and unlikely alien Allies.

Brilliant chapter of the story, full of action and some hilarious characters. I won't say too much but I've been waiting for a certain something to join the fight, and it did. 👌🏻 and it worked, so well.

"smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast"- Ace Rimmer (Red Dwarf)

Gambit opens with all the pieces coming together and being in place for the big battle to take back the planet. Get in- get out- and don't die. Sounds simple enough right?! I don't see what can go wrong with that plan.

For once Murphy had not made an unplanned and destructive appearance. Just kidding his finger prints are all over this!

For me personally- I love this. It ticks all the boxes for what I want to read just for fun. Epic battles, giant explosions, strong leader, funny aliens, a clear bad guy, and sarcasm. With the added bonus of vampire swords with perfect names, well dressed Mad Hatter's, and a weird craving I have for talking toasters! I'm spoiled now for regular series with strict on sale releases- binge reading is the only way to go

I was hoping fir more Freya in this book, and it was delivered, albeit very late in the book. Just like the previous books, this one was constant excitement. The reader is able to get attached to the characters (Jonathan, Franklin, Craaxit just to name a few) and feel for their circumstances. Like the last book, only very few punctuation mistakes, but very well edited. I'm looking forward to continuing the adventures of Daisy, Freya, and all the rest!

The third book was far more entertaining than the first two combined. There were a lot of twists and turns and actions. Then the ending was crazy just to close it off. Though a few things dragged on for a moment or two, overall, it was much better. The reason it's not a five-star because there are a few moments in the story that are contrived or straight up a Deus Ex Machina. Besides those grips, the story was fun and entraining, and I look forward to the next entry.

The third instalment in the Clockwork Chimera series. Daisy is leading a revolution and looking to save her planet. We meet some new characters, human, cyborg, alien and AI alike. Daisy's character develops and becomes more likeable. She's becoming more emotionally intelligent and facing some of her prejudice. Chapters are short, fast-paced, and the story moves along quickly. An expected cliffhanger taking us into part 4.

Good book

A great continuation of a good series well thought out and plausible, not the best in the series so far which was book 1 . But a good read nonetheless of

Summary: This book was fun, good space opera, but lots of aspects that were a bit flimsy and if over thought would make it unreadable, as it was Daisy is super intelligent, super dexterous, super strong, but has the wisdom of a 2 year old - it makes for a fun story. Book 2 similar theme summed up as fun but stupid, easy to read so I'll keep going with the series. Book 3 - more of the same, getting really annoyed and put off by Daisy perfection

Plotline: Contrived in places but yes moves nicely with an overall purpose

Premise: the overall aim of the premise works but some of the details are off. Book 2 we learn more and not all good

Writing: simple quick the user is right in the action with Daisy. No great depth to the characters though

Ending: Nice completion all set up for book 2 ... book 3 ... book 4

Pace: Never a dull moment!

Oopsie, Daisy!

Author Scott Baron packs a walloping, rolicking good time into this brilliantly written volume. There is something in here for just about everyone. Cool tech, martial arts, meditation, creative engineering, fascinating relationships, and even parenting tips, not to mention fancy piloting and space marine antics are all blended into a dynamic and fast-paced sci-fi action frenzy.

What more can a reader expect? Rhetorical question. Nothing!

A really fun series!

Highly recommended!

Picked up the first book on a whim (Well actually the audiobook cover sold it for me), and now I've just finished listening to the third book. This series brought me out of my readers slump. I LOVE DAISY. She's my type of heroine.

Edit: The narrator did a GREAT job telling the story too. I think she might well be my favourite so far for audiobooks. Not too dramatic, not too emotional, doesn't sound whiny (but that in part is because none of the characters are whiny imo which I love).

The author has kept this series going in a great storyline . Loved the way this book played out. Sad some if the characters died but not going to ruin it and say who they were. I cannot wait to see how the rest plays out as it shows alot of promise with the foreshadowing. I completely recommend this series and this author as he makes his characters very rounded and each their own.

Daisy and friends are finally able to fight back at the aliens who are controlling earth. Of course it is not always as easy as it sounds. As soon as they have one good plan in place Murphy tends to show his ugly head and change things for the worse. See how Daisy and her friends try to overcome the odds and free Earth from it's oppressors.

Wow!

What an amazing story! Each book just gets better and better. Daisy has helped lead a revolt and managed to destroy the bases of the Raaz and now they are busy trying to build more ships to take the fight to them. Absolutely stunning story and I cannot wait for the next one. The characters are vivid and so interesting.

An epic tale

Third in a series. This book suffers from series syndrome, the cast is too big, their connections unexplained. The intricacies and minutiae of the plot robs it of both pace and tension.
Quite readable buy only if you intend to buy the lot.
