Ver'Dak wants Verillium more than any other world...
Verillium, a small, Class-M planet, wasn't part of any alliance, had little in the way of technology, nothing in the way of riches and had been at war with itself for centuries.
Why, then, had it drawn the interest of the cleverest, wickedest demi-god ever?
The only thing standing in Ver'Dak's way is the daughter of a dead king…
and the Black Zone

Jessil:
Verlin grabbed my hair before I could pull the woman to safety; that's how I ended up being dragged up endless palace steps and thrown onto the floor of Father's study, which Nessil had taken for his own.
"Well, Balver won't take her now—not since she's been in the kitchens for three weeks and available to anybody walking in," Nessil's boots came into view as Verlin held me down, my cheek pressed hard against the new rug on the study floor. My eyes watered from the scent of fresh dyes—Nessil had been quite busy removing evidence of Father's rule.
Wait—he'd said Balver. Lord Balver. Old, bandy-legged and smelly Balver. Nessil had gone looking for the worst possible place for me to serve as a breeder and broodraiser.
"She hid well enough in the kitchens—I say send her back there," Verlin suggested.
"No—she liked it there or she wouldn't have stayed," Nessil pretended to be wise. "Let's give her to the army, instead. As a punishment."
"Sound decision," Verlin grunted, removing his knee from my back. "Stay down, drone; the tappers are on the way."
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
As always Ms Suttle’s latest book is a treat to savour and then savour again. As usual there is a large cast of characters, some new, some familiar old friends, and a conscious effort is required to keep mental track of them and all of their connections. The new big bad is as hideous and overwhelming as his predecessors, a bludgeoning onslaught of nasty. Of course good overcomes evil for now, but at a terrible cost, and the ending is not a cliffhanger per se but a very definite hook for book three.
I've read all of her series from the Blood Destiny and First Ordinance series through to this one and have enjoyed them all. However, if you haven't read these books you should know that this is not a stand-alone book and without knowing the characters, you will be lost. Even those of us who are familiar with these books sometimes need a list of characters. I've liked her books well enough to re-read most of them. Very good entertainment during the pandemic.
Another planet endangered by the half Krell/Liron children. Events continue to as Ver‘dak, a Demi god tries to take over Verillium. She has a lots of friends and descendants of the greatest powers on several planets helping the locals, specifically Jessel the rightful heir on the planet. I had to look at the website to keep the huge cast of new and returning characters in order. In fact, I have read all Connie Suttle’s books and these are not stand alone novels and they are better read in order. That cliff hanger let’s me know there is another in the series coming!
You come with the unpredictable.i can never gust what's coming next or who is connected to whom.
I hope Cyrus family forgive, love and accept him. I think he has given too much for the world and yet he suffers. I was upset with Charles for demanding punishment for losing 2 daughters when the Eye have loss so much.
Connie writes enthralling stories that manage to find multiple plots into a cohesive whole. From the first book of hers I read to this last they never disappoint you
I will never tire or reading Connie's books. Though at times I could use a flow chart to remind me whose who. So many characters and intertwining storylines! It may be a long time between books, but they are so very worth the wait!
Great when I got my head around at the beginning. Soon got the people and plot. Need to read the next book which I haven't got yet. The next book is not available . Looked high and low..This is not good
Love how Connie keeps her characters throughout her stories and developed worlds that keep the pages turning while introducing new characters. Loved it!
Each novel gets better and better . Don't stop writing. Can't wait for volume 3. Be careful not to get Covid-19. Infections are rising right now there in OK.
I bought this direct from the Author's web store. This was very good. A new, to Connie fans, planet, characters and diabolical enemy. Some of our favorites are also taking part in the story. The end was quite a surprise. There seemed to be less angst and the heroine was strong, even in her bad moments. This kept making me think of the Black Rose series. They feel similar but they are different and Black Rose is still a standalone series. To be honest, I felt confused at times. Not to worry though. That just means that it's time for me to do a complete re-read. I have to refresh my memory. 😊
This one was definitely worth the wait. So much has happened in this book. The next generation of power welders are helping to fight against Ver'Dek and his brothers. I can't wait for the next one to see how everything comes together. Connie Suttle always leaves me wanting more. I get a little Sat when I read about 75% of the book because the ending is near. Definitely a must read series and author!
This is another great book by Connie Suttle. I love the way she brings back many of our favorite characters from the Lissaverse. There was the right amount of tension but I wish I already had the next book in the series to see how everything gets resolved. I'm a huge fan!
Cliff hanger! I love them and I hate them. I love them because that means another book is coming and I hate them because that means I have to wait for it. Awesome story, beautifully written.
