Raven may be a shifter, but she's always felt separate from her wolf. She never knew it should be different. Then, a stranger showed up in her hometown, turning her world upside down and recruiting her for the elite Bloodshed Academy.
Everything she's ever known gets challenged, and Raven found herself in impossible situations. Making matters worse was the fact that one of the strongest alphas at school caught her eye. And he made her feel things she didn't understand.
The school may only recruit the best of the best, the strongest in their world, but there was something more about Raven. When push comes to shove, she had to decide if she's willing to fight for what she's come to love ... or run from a life she couldn't quite accept.

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.
My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.
I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.
I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes. I am so pleased that you stopped by my page! Please feel free to follow or contact me at the following pages -
Yeah, this was a roll of the dice. I take longshots sometimes when the mood strikes and this was one. It paid off this time, at least enough that I'll probably get the next in the series.
Raven is a werewolf in some backwater that has a sexist packhole in charge whose son has been given, well, her. So they've been together for a couple years and he treats her like a possession, kind of. I mean, he doesn't order her around so much as he just assumes she'll fall in with his "suggestions". And I hated very much that, at least in the beginning, she did so. I mean, you could totally see why he'd make that assumption. She never said no, never pushed back, and while her internal voice was saying how much she was tired of his whiney demands, she never bothered expressing that at all.
But I liked Raven, mostly, when she wasn't holding herself back. And that picks up nicely once the boys at the academy show up and haul her out of the backwater craphole she starts in. There's mean girls, but also a roommate who becomes a good friend (seriously, half my enjoyment of the story was Jess) and the hot boys are cool without being overbearing or entitled. With Raven, anyway. Rage (that name! sigh) was meh for me because while he was sweet with Raven, he treated every other person at the school who wasn't in his inner clique like crap. I don't think authors always process how much that says about their leads. I mean, his treatment of Ashley was abominable and telling Raven he'd never treat her like that was not actually reassuring. And not because there's any fear that he'd do so with Raven (it was pretty clear that he is sincerely attached even beyond the kinda-tired "true mate bond" and just wouldn't) but because it says volumes about the kind of person he is, really. Because character manifests more in how you treat those you don't need or like than in how you treat your friends and family.
And I didn't like how obvious that main impediment to Raven embracing her inner wolf was, either. Or that Raven wants to . That kind of deliberate limiting is a betrayal of the ties that should have bound them together and that needs some explanation that I find unlikely to be anything like adequate. But then, she is young and doesn't yet have a handle on her world so we'll see.
In the end, this was engaging enough to hold my interest and I'd like to see how it continues. The "year" structure of the series (with each book named after her year at Bloodshed Academy) is more awkward than I think Grey accounted for and that made for a stuttery pace with some really long skips (one chapter starts with "The last six months had been crazy, to say the least. Luckily we got into a pattern.") So this is a decent 3½ stars with enough friction that I can't bring myself to round up. We'll see how the next year does.
A note about Steamy: I mentioned the "true mates" thing above, right? Well, this is college, so that means it's license for the sexy times to roll! There are a handful of explicit sex scenes that were not long or terribly intense but were very much the exuberance of youth without any limiting factors holding them back. Which is actually not a bad way to go. It edged into the higher range of my steam tolerance, but only just because the author only went explicit when relationship-affecting aspects were important. So not a bad thing, I don't think.
I'm honestly a bit irritated that I liked this as much as I did. These are the types of books I read as a teenager and I so thought I was done with it, but it unfortunately doesn't seem to be the case. I definitely liked this book and I'm giving it a 4 only because- I'm not sure to be honest. Just the quality I suppose, but the quality is also why I like this book so I'm not sure how to rate it exactly.
There are undeniably quite a fair amount of flaws but I seem to have overlooked that and despite knowing that and acknowledging it, I can't bring myself to rate it it's quality.
Honestly I enjoyed this. I was uneasy per se, it's 3AM, I was in bed and in the mood for reading something like....this. The mood was set and it was literally calling to me.
I can't bring myself to deny my attraction towards the book, but, let's just say if you read this then you'll know what I mean.
I am desperate for Year Two and I hope there will be more to come cause I'm not sure tbh. That aside, definitely would've read the next book if I had it. But alas, we can't always ge what we want. I will be sure to look out for future instalments.
Raven might have been dating the future alpha of her pack, but inside she felt she does not belong. She is a shifter, yes, but is not in sync with her wolf, nor does she feel compliant or submissive around her boyfriend. When the recruiter from famous academy is about to come, everyone expects her boyfriend to be the one they want - until the recruiters announce their interest in Raven. Coming to the Bloodshed Academy with Cole and Rage might start the biggest adventure of her life - getting to know who she really is. Fast and entertaining read with funny, awkward, cliche, dramatic, and hot scenes, numerous plot twists, and a really hilarious choice of characters. Cole denies every single expectation about vampires with his bubbly personality and over-the-top single-minded focus (ok, maybe two, his ego being one of them). Rage is a love at first sight character, while Damien is a lurking presence just waiting to let us know his strengths, and Raven's teammate is one hell of a kickass girl. There are many hints at the secrets being held just waiting to be uncovered, whether at the academy or in Raven's family. But more than that, I like the challenges Raven has to face, forced to stand up for herself and prove she is capable of handling about everything if she wants to stay alive.
The best part of this book was 100% the character interactions, they were v funny and entertaining.
The problems I had were: basically nothing happened; there were loads unnecessary time jumps - an entire sixth months goes by ??? it could have literally been a week later for all the changes that happened, this also meant that we don't see any friendships developed we're just tole 'yeah we're bffs now' ; and the relationship between the love interests was seriously undeveloped, they avoid each other for sixth months (it literally says they didn't even talk to each other) and then suddenly they're madly in love, I think you can only take the they-can-have-insta-love-because-they're-mates thing so far and this was too much of a reach for me.
I generally try to be kind when reviewing books because I know the author put a lot of effort into it. However, this book might be the worst book I have ever read. The writing style, the character development, the plot (or should I say lack of plot), it is all, for lack of a better word, childish. What was most appalling was the mediocre writing. It was almost like no one had edited or told the author that it was OK to write at a higher level. There is zero development of characters, zero development of plot, everything is rushed. Don’t even get me started on the blatant sexism and higher than thou attitude of our main character. I get some girls are bullies, but the constant slut shaming in this book by supposedly strong female leads is disgusting. Overall, I am highly disappointed and could not bring myself to finish it. I made it to chapter 16 before I had to put it down. Save your money and don’t waste your time with this book.
I think this maybe my favorite book from this author yet!!! Raven has no idea why the prestigious academy has picked her, but she knows that she doesn't want to leave. I absolutely adore Jess, and I can't wait to learn more about this sassy girl. And the guys? Each and every one of them is swoon worthy in their own way. I need more please
1st reread: All I have to say is this is the type of book that is enjoyed the second time you read it. You pick up on SO MANY more details of the pull between Raven and Rage and it's amazing.
And Cole? LOVE HIM.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Call me surprised.
I FLOVED this paranormal, shifter, high YA romance. Raven was fiesty and strong, Rage...I FLOVED him too. Cole was a hoot, Jess was sweet, and Damien was protective.
I like that this isn't a reverse harem (that I do like) but rather a true mate story that also has other guys who love her as a friend. THAT is so rare in these books and so refreshing.
Raven is recruited to Bloodshed Academy where the girls are mean, and her wolf refuses to mesh with her fully. Once they mesh together, the true mate bond shows and things progress.
Really, nothing too exciting happened in this book other than that one fight. But I really found myself enjoying the plot, characters, and fast-paced plot.
From all the reviews this book got I thought it would be better. I feel this book was lacking in depth. There was no real character development at all. I wanted more from the characters, everything felt shallow. It was a short book so everything kind of happened fast, but it just left me disappointed. Not sure why there are so many good reviews, but I’ve read lots of other books that took more time on developing the story and getting me hooked. I also felt that the main character and her mate didn’t get the attention it needed to make it something I even cared about. Don’t read it if you are looking for some to big worth reading.
Raven has spent her whole life being told her place in the back, which is basically only to support her boyfriend, the future alpha, and to never want anything for herself. Well, the human half of Raven may be tolerant of the idea, but her wolf side wants to be free and in charge. When a scout for the elite supernatural academy shows up at her high school graduation, the entire pack is shocked that he came to recruit Raven. Raven has an opportunity to get out of her place in the pack and be something more, that is if she can survive the danger that is Bloodshed Academy.
When I stumbled across this book, I was instantly sold- werewolves mixed with a magical academy, yes please! I am a sucker for both those genres alone, but mixed together I had very high hopes for this story- it also didn't hurt that the cover is so pretty. I am happy to report that Year One was fast and fun, something that I could pick up and completely immerse myself to the drama and world building that the author set up. There was so much going on in the story, be it plot or supernatural creatures, and yet the components all meshed well together. I will admit that there was a romance that I ship hardcore and I only hope for the best in the future books, but that may be wishful on my part. And not only was there romance, there was great friendships that kept me entertained and hoping for more banter and interactions.
The ending was not at all the ending, instead just a pause in all the crazy that Raven has found herself involved in. You better believe that I will be here for the next book as soon as possible, thank goodness it is already out! This series is the perfect choice for anyone who likes werewolves, magical academies, relationship dynamics, mystery and and secrets.
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
Bloodshed Academy: Year One is my first book by Jen and I have she has grabbed my attention. I loved this book so hard, there is just something about a paranormal romance that takes place in an academy where the students aren't guaranteed to survive that pulls my interest.
They are all like welcome to my prestigious academy we hope you survive until graduation. However, between shady staff, students who are complete psychos and evil lurking about are gonna cause for an interesting read. Jen has created a very interesting story that not only kept my interest but completely sucked me in, between the characters and the plot things are very exciting.
Raven is the main character, she is a wolf shifter who doesn't really fit in with her pack and has a little trouble with her wolf. She is the person who seems like everything fine and does what is expected of her but wants more from life than what she has been forced into. Bloodshed is the perfect place for her to learn and grow into a better version of herself, and throughout this book, I was able to see some of that growth.
The other characters are interesting. There is Jess the best friend who is a true ally at a school where most people can't be trusted. Their friendship is adorable and it was really heartwarming to see them have someone that has their back when neither really had that before. As for the guys... I will admit I have no idea if this is a reverse harem. Currently, I have a reverse harem obsession, I want to read rh all the time, and when I read things they could easily be rh so I could be reading into things. I mean, there are three guys, Cole, Rage, and Damien, and you can tell each of them have warmed up to her. The guys have their own little group and they include her she kinda resists, it's cute. I will admit that the guys could be a little cold/harsh to anyone not in the group but a lot of the bitches deserve it. Out of all the guys, Cole is my favorite, the sassy, the snark, and the generally crazy that is him just pulls me in and I want to see more of him.
The plot of Bloodshed Academy Year One is kinda genius. I mean there is a female who grows into her power, female friendship, guys who support and protect but let the girl do her thing. There are secrets, shady staff, and so many easter eggs. I mean I have my theories because certain things were mentioned and I couldn't help but put two and two together. However, I still have questions especially the one about Raven and Cole because something happened earlier in the story and then a fact was mentioned towards the end of the story which has me asking a very important question.
I really did enjoy the story, Jen's characters spoke to me and the story was fascinating, I can't wait to see what Year Two at Bloodshed brings and I hope that the secrets come out and my questions get answered.
What a great start for a new series. This story has shifters, vampires, fae and other supernatural creatures. They live among us and are inconspicuous. You would never know when you were talking to one.
The group of wolf shifters live close together in one neighborhood. The kids go to school with regular humans. They are just normal kids but do tend to stick together. The Alpha's son, Greg is the star baseball pitcher and has his hopes set on admission to Bloodshed Academy. It's the final week of school and the last game. When the recruiter doesn't show, he is mad. All he can hope is that he shows up at graduation. His girlfriend, Raven has no desire to attend Bloodshed Academy. She knows very little about it and wants to break away from Greg. However, the parents won't let them break up. What happens next is a good example of what kids go through with bullying in school. When college starts, it gets worse by the day. The recruiter showed at graduation but things didn't go as planned. Then Raven tried to break up with Greg but he kept calling and texting her.
The author did a great job of making this story feel very real. The relationships are true to life. I can't wait for the next book in the series, thus, I gave it 5 stars.
Raven is graduating and theres a recruit thats coming for her boyfriend. Only the strongest alphas can go to his school. Whe don't understand why they are talking to her. What will she do? What will her pack do? What will her boyfriend do? Who are these guys and why are the girls jeaulous? Will she ever be one with her wolf?

Have you ever finished a book and felt you are in different dimension?
Let me tell you why i picked this book? well its mainly beacuse Cover and i am in mood for supernatural stuff. And when i saw this book i now i need to read it. And i am happy that i did it and now Jen Grey is one of my fav author.
It was a fascinating reading, that kept me busy for straight 5 hour ! If you are in for something supernatural and captivating, this one could be the right book for you!
I did enjoy every of the characters though, they had their flaws, everyone dealing with thier own weakness but its awesome thats what gibe this book a realostic approach.
I dont like Grey , he dnt have a sense of privacy and respect for himself or Raven. He is selfish , moody , childish not even a bit lile Alpha male.
Sometime i dnt even like Rage because he never expressed his love toward Raven. Olny charcter i loved is cole he is just a happy cookie.
It was a lovely quick read, I finished it in a few hours and though I gave it a 4, its not one that I would feel the need to reread any time. But yes i want to read next book in series and wanted to know what happen next , whats the secret behind her origin that necklace and why her mom did that.
I feel like big relevation is going to come in next book.
Honestly i loved this book alot, loved Raven character super sassy and cole is just fun loving guy. This book had everything which you expect from a supernatural book.
ONE CHAOTIC MAGICAL OVERLOAD!!! Greedy gremlins! Jen dropped the bomb and lowered the boom, delivering this brilliantly composed crème de la crème, laying out one riveting storyline and enchanting plot, blasting this hot little number to life spectacularly. Quirky mishaps and surprising happenstance, showcase the taxing trials and pulse racing tribulations, stumbling through the funky twists and crazy turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they never saw coming. Shenanigans, escapades and mayhem rule the roost, rolling with the drama, turmoil, intrigue, underlying threats, spiraling suspense and intense situations, along with a boatload of magic and sass, you have one intoxicating experience. Coiled, knotted and tightly woven, exposing the explosive ups and agonizing downs, grounding in it's simplicity and awe inspiring in it's depth. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuinely relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and depictions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Amazing job Jen, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
I can't help but fall for these characters. Raven begins her story right before graduation in a dead-end relationship with the alpha of her pack. But as the story moves along, she gains strength she never knew resided inside her and discovers secrets about her background she wouldn't have believed had she not discovered them. As we watch her relationship with each of the characters introduced unfold, we discover the layers she has kept hidden as she abided by the teachings she'd received since she was a child.
We're introduced to some fun and fascinating characters, some that make us laugh (Cole comes to mind) and some that make us angry. But the way the story keeps the reader on an emotional rollercoaster makes the reveals taking place throughout that much better. There are some rivalries to keep our eyes on and some moments that make us wonder where Raven might be headed next. There is no obvious line between the good guys and the bad guys, so we don't know which direction each character leans until the situations call for it, which always makes a story more fun.
I'm looking forward to discovering where our heroine takes us in the next book in the series.
This book was kinda stupid. I can’t believe I actually finished it and I’m definitely not reading the next book in the series.
Raven, the h, acted like she was 15 and not 18. None of the characters really acted their age. This book would’ve been a lot more realistic if it took place in high school and not collage.
Honestly I don’t even want to call this book NA cause even though there were sex scenes they were glossed over and really boring. Like where is the ✨Spice✨. The author could’ve just taken the sex scenes out all together and called this YA and gotten the proper audience for it.
Also whenever someone did something bad they kind of just got away with it cause the h is so “nice” and “good”. Yeah I call that being a pushover and boring. She lets her parents get away with giving her a charmed necklace. She even protects Ashley’s image after she tried to kill her. She also stuck around with her douche of a boyfriend for 6 EXTRA MONTHS even after she moved to her new school. Like girl grow a backbone.
How am I supposed to believe this girl is the ultimate Alpha?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A female alpha, whose powers have been suppressed by her mother, for some mysterious reason that is never revealed, takes the spot her boyfriend thought was his at an elite school for supernaturals. What happens next...the usual. She meets her mate and befriends his exclusive bro squad. Mean girls are jealous. They want her head. She dumps her boyfriend, takes off a magic necklace and fights for her life... the end. There are no revelations and no climax. In the last pages, she gets an invitation to join a super secret society. There are more questions than answers, and I don’t care enough about any of the characters to seek answers.
I love paranormal academy stories. And This one is soo good so far. I really like the characters. My favorite I have to admit though is Cole he is hilarious! He and Jess should totally be a thing haha. I also love the fact that there’s fated mates and that it is very rare. Raven found hers which is awesome. As for That ending, it definitely left me wanting more. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Raven’s story. If you are a fan of academy stories, then you’ll enjoy reading this story.
This is a fantastic read, one that once you pick it up you will not be able to put it down. The world building is incredible, the storyline addictive and the characters kick ass! There’s mystery and intrigue, romance and friendship, snark, hilarity and sass and I cannot wait to read the next book!
This book is pretty bad. I couldn’t even get through it. The style of prose reads like a teen wrote it, and it’s extremely clunky at times. The dialogue is unrealistic and awkward; it doesn’t flow organically, at all. The characters are all flat (I wasn’t invested in any of their fates), and the main character seems fairly unintelligent. The ‘romance’ felt like something a 14 year old dreamed up. Sadly, I would not recommend.
Everything about this book was flat and formulaic. There was almost no world building and definitely no real character development or relationship building. All of the trite cliches were present and not well written. This was honestly a waste of time to read and I have no interest in reading anything else written by this author.
Bloodshed Academy is my first book by Jen L. Grey. The blurb is what attracted me, and even though it was an enjoyable read, I was a bit underwhelmed in the end.
Summary: Raven Wright is proud of her shifter heritage, but she’s always felt that something is missing. It may be that she’s a female and was raised to believe a she-wolf couldn’t be ranked or it may be that she’s always felt a disconnect with her inner beast. She’s not sure, but with high school graduation approaching, she’s unsure of where her future will lead. That is, until what she thought was impossible happened. Raven’s world and all she’s known is quickly turned on its ear when a recruiter from the elite school, Bloodshed Academy, offers her a choice she can’t refuse. Bloodshed Academy is an environment Raven never thought existed, but here she is finding herself in all sorts of unexplainable and complicated situations. And the strangely intense chemistry between her and one of the strongest alphas at the school, doesn’t help. Raven has some decisions to make. And fast. Can she succeed in a place where only the strongest survive?
After reading the blurb, I was eager to see what seemed to be a sheltered female wolf rise above the condescension and gender inequality around her and become all that she could be. In a way, some of this did happen, but nothing to the extent that I was thinking or hoping for. Raven was a pretty cool chick. Her struggle with both her faked timidness and her wolf was a draw, because I wanted to see her break free of the chains she’d obviously grown up with. The storyline had a lot of potential, but I don’t feel it was put into action in a way that gave it that little extra oomph I was looking for. I was happy to see the bonds between her and the guys and her and Jess, but every other relationship for her just seemed to flap in the wind. I do believe Gregg should have been handled a lot sooner, and then maybe the scene we got could have been that bit of extra drama. The way it was laid out just didn’t quite connect with me. The same with Rage. I actually felt her relationship progression with Cole and Damien were pretty fluid and natural, but with Rage, that deeper connection was just missing. It was more of a situation that I was told it was there instead of me feeling it. Jess was awesome, and I do hope there is more with her history, circumstances, and romance in future books. As for the storyline, I feel like nothing of consequence was really answered, and so much more could have happened before the would-be villains of book two were revealed. The incident at the end seemed a little forced when things on that front were quiet for much of the book. Not to mention, a major time jump was included and I felt the meat of the story could have been developed during that time instead. Considering her struggle with her wolf bond was a major concern, I think any obstacles that prevented that end should have been resolved in this book. In my opinion, it was not. In the end, I did enjoy this short escape into a different world, but I find myself feeling more confused than satisfied with the story, and left with more questions than when I started. I’m unsure if I’ll be moving on to book two. I want a little more anticipation and action while getting at least some answers. ♡
Raven Wright is shapeshifter about to graduate from high school. Her life has already been laid out for her as everyone expects her to marry the alpha’s son an alpha himself.
Raven’s boyfriend Greg is awaiting an invitation to the very elite Bloodshed Academy. The recruiter is expected to show up at the school the next day. Greg being the self center person that he is so excited about going to the academy.
Raven is not too happy to be starting her life off married to the very popular Greg. Raven would like to go to Bloodshed Academy herself but has been told all her life that only alphas are allowed in and females can not be an alpha.
Raven’s parents seemed to be hiding something from her or about her. What can they be hiding? Raven has this necklace that her mother gave her and must wear at all times. What is up with this necklace?
Imagine everyone's surprise when the recruiter shows up the next day and announces that he is there for Raven and not Greg. Raven’s parents refuse to let her go but have not choice in the matter as there would be dire consequences for anyone who refused. Poor, poor Greg is mortified as he was so looking forward to attending the elite academy.
Raven and her wolf have never been one with each other but she just thought that was the way it was supposed to be until she arrived at the academy and was told other wise. Raven must learn to become one with her wolf and also how to control her shifting. The way her parents act I assume that Raven has a lot of little surprises that she will be learning about her self in the future and I surely hope that I am around for this.
I so enjoy reading academy books with vampires, wolves and fae. I hope to see even more paranormal creatures in future books. Year One kept reminding me of the Twilight saga and the Vampire Diaries. With Cole, Rage, Damien and Greg I kept wondering if we were going to see all the guys fighting over Raven like in Twilight or Vampire Diaries. Well or at least competing for her attention.
Year One has mystery, suspense, romance, great friendships, great characters and awesome world building. Year One is an intense read that kept me glued to the pages wondering what Raven’s parents were keeping secret and wanting to know more about her and her past and about her parent’s past as well.
I kept wondering what is Raven’s full potential? Is there more to Raven than meets the eye? I can’t wait to read the next book Year Two in the Bloodshed Academy series. Year One is a great start to a fantastic new series one in which I am anxiously awaiting more of.
I would recommend Year One to all paranormal fantasy, vampire, wolves and fae fans with an academy setting. Give Year One a shot, one click your copy today!
This book was nothing what I thought it would be it definitely surprised me. It did start kinda slow for me but definitely picked up in the middle and I flew through it! I hated that Raven struggled with not feeling connected to her wolf and I couldn't imagine how that would feel. When she got recruited for the academy its like her life is just starting. Raven faces many challenges and you watch her grow and she stands up and its like she comes into herself. I can't wait too see what happens next in this series.
I devoured this book in one sitting, staying up well after my bedtime. I was hooked from the beginning. The book begins with a young woman who is trapped in an existence she does not want, but no no idea of how to escape. Her only hope is that her boyfriend is accepted into the school for alphas, so at least she will get some freedom to find herself. Life does not go as expected and she is the one going to school. Raven is drawn to the three strongest makes in the whole school. She makes a best friend, finds out she was being caged in a sense, finds true love, loyal friends and a place she feels she belongs. My question is she really free? Only the next book will shine light on that question. I can't wait.
An exciting new adventure for a beautiful young shifter that has a lot to work out in her self and her other An Alpha that is a douche add 3 bad boy to the mix oh and an outcast Fae the rocks and you have an amazing story Oh and it must ROCK course CALLIE KILT decided she was gunna steal it must be sad she couldn't come up with her own works
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
