My phone rings. ‘The project has been put back for two weeks.’ My first thought is disappointment, then it hits me. I look up and smile. ‘Thank you,’ I mouth. I message my wife… ‘The project’s been cancelled… do you want to walk the Camino Portugués?’ I wait. Minutes seem like hours. My phone buzzes and flashes. ‘We haven’t done any training,’ comes the reply. My phone buzzes and flashes a second time. ‘I need some new trainers.’ Again it buzzes. ‘Let’s do it.’
When opportunity knocks, adventure isn’t far behind. Graeme Harvey, author of Adventures on ‘The Way’ and Running the ‘Highway to Hell’, invites you to join him and his wife Kirsty on a short journey through Portugal and Spain following the pilgrimage route of the Camino Portugués from Porto to the fabled Santiago de Compostella. It’s a pilgrim’s progress of chance meetings, wine, new friends, more wine, and making the most of every moment.
A quick, enjoyable enough read which gives a good account of the Camino Portugues. A nice trip down memory lane having done a section of that Way last year. Has given me the goo to go back to Galicia!
I love a travel destination book that puts the reader's feet on the ground, and this one does it perfectly. After two Camino Frances walks, I intend to do the Caminho Portuguese next and this book was an excellent starting point. It's filled with wonderful physical details of the walk, as well as interesting historical facts. Loved it!
Good read of a less popular Camino Route from Portugal to Santiago.
Some good advice about the practical side of Light Weight backpacking came as a bonus for someone who is generally in the other direction to that side of things.
