Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.

All I need from you is an email address to send them to. Here's the link you need - https://mailchi.mp/fd47a6eb4ae5/patri...

When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.

At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.

Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.

This message is for the author. I appreciate that you can churn out books so rapidly but to my way of thinking maybe you should slow down and concentrate on your editing. The mistakes are numerous and annoying.

I read these book as I had read other books by Steve Higgs and found them engaging and amusing. In this series of books he has managed to create a central character who is an older female. The situation that has her ending up on board a luxury is incredibly contrived but somehow manages to be believable relatable and extremely funny.

Patricia Fisher, the central character is a sympathetic character, constantly pointing out to herself, and the reader, she has no idea what she is doing. She is assisted by Jermaine, her butler from her suite, who also happens to be gay (but one who shows he knows how to fight) and Barbie, her assumed 'dumb blonde' fitness instructor. The growing relationship between them is as entertaining as it is heartwarming.

Each book (there are 10 in all) is a complete stand alone mystery in its own right but all feature the backdrop of world cruise. I read them back to back despite which I did not find that I was bored by the characters or that I needed a break. Overall and individually they are a very entertaining light read.

Too much fun! Join the recently divorced amateur sleuth who managed to acquire a year-long cruise of the world after solving a very important mystery as she has one adventurous sleuthing per book. It's so nice to have them all in one place without having to dig around in my TBR pile! These are such antidotes to stress!

Sigh Patricia

Overall not a bad series, but, why did Patricia get dumber as the series went on? Why did she get more unlikeable? I honestly,y wanted Jermaine and Barbie to be the main characters because they were the backbone of the series, along with Allistair and the security team.

Great stories with brilliant characters. Really enjoyed all Patricia's mad escapades. Found myself cheering her on as she overcame her husband's infidelity to find who she really is. Endearing, entertaining and fun!

Quite a humorous series. I loved Patricia and all her friends in every book. Just starting the second series about her life as a PI. I couldn't put it down until I finished all 10 books. Makes me want to read the other books by Steve Higgs and to try a gin and tonic or two.

I cannot think of a kind word to say about the main character; I did try to like her, but no go. The plot is farfetched and unamusing. I would rather have the story from the butler's point of view.

Only made it through 2 1/2 of these. Probably the worst written book(s) I have ever read. The author should have done some research into how cruises work before writing a series about a lady on a cruise for a year!

Kindle book - there are several "novellas" in this book. Even though this series has a high rating, I found them kind of boring and silly. The first one was kind of cute, but the next 2 or 3 were a big let down--I didn't finish the series.

I finished this book 10 days ago and started the second 10-book set immediately after I finished. Usually, I will write my reviews the same day, but I wanted to give this book and author the Indepth description that they deserve.

The first VERY important thing to note is that yes, I purchased this as the 10-book set, NOT as individual books. There are 10 total books in this set, and I will be giving a review over all of them as a whole, not individually with each book.

Books 1-5
To start, this series is a collection of (pretty short) novels revolving around a cruise ship and its crazy mysteries. The protagonist, Patricia Fisher, discovers her husband of decades has been cheating on her with her best friend. After that, she decides to do something for herself that she had always wanted to do: Go on a cruise around the world.

Patricia gets into all sorts of shenanigans from getting her tickets squared away for the cruise, to her first steps on board. She is a feisty middle-aged woman experiencing her personal coming-of-age moments in these whirlwind novels. There are a lot of lighthearted moments as she gets to know the crew of the ship and make friends on board, but there are also quite a few... crazier moments like when she is suspected of murder on board the ship and is confined to her cabins temporarily.

There are definitely some things that need to be adjusted in the editing period - there were a lot of typos and grammatical errors in this one, but they didn't cause me to lose my place in the story when I stumbled across them. Another interesting tidbit is that the reader will completely understand that Patricia Fisher is NOT a private investigator on this cruise ship - she makes it blatantly clear at all times that she has absolutely no idea what she is doing. At some points the amount of luck that Patricia and her friends experience seems a little TOO much luck, but Steve Higgs is able to balance it out later in the story if you can keep reading.

Books 6-10
There were definitely a few more errors than previously found in the first 5 books, but I am reading on the Kindle Edition of the books so the editing may be different. At this stage of the stories Patricia has made some longer standing friends on the ship - other than her butler and fitness trainer of course! The characterization of two older gentleman, retired police, seemed a bit redundant but was still eagerly entertaining. I did cringe a bit while Patricia and all of her friends were riding in a taxi, and someone passed gas. This continues to be a theme throughout the rest of their time with Patricia, and it does get a little old.

In one of the books, there is an infectious disease that has broken out aboard the ship. This book was definitely written during the covid pandemic, and I get it! It was a great idea to execute, especially with everything going on in the world today. BUT. I was derailed a bit when Patricia was able to walk in and out of the sick bay of the ship so easily, and without a majority of the proper equipment. That's not related to my views of current events, but more so related to my knowledge of medical protocol - which means that the little detail of that really pulled me out of the story for a few minutes when I didn't expect to be.

Closer to the end of the series, things return to the attitude of the first 5 books, a little more lighthearted and jovial than a few of the books in-between - but all together one of the best series I have read in 2022 so far!

As I said in the beginning, I have already started the second book series regarding Patricia Fisher - and I am waiting a couple more days to write the review so that I can give it my best go. If you are on the fence? Just read it. I really think that most people would enjoy this series as much as I did!

This is a series of short novels that are humorous cozy cruise ship mysteries. I loved the way Mrs Fisher got on board and then got tangled up in her first mystery. She’s a courageous middle-aged woman coming of age. These are light and fun farces, with good tweaks to the plot along the way. Mostly Delightful. Book6-7 we’re the low spot for me. I was tired of Mrs Fisher saying she almost peed a little all the time and the old guys passing gas. Both funny the first time, but overused. In book 5, the author uses a doctor character to insert a political statement against masks, claiming “masks are useless.” The author is entitled to his opinion, but when it yanks the reader out of the story and into current events it’s a fail. For the record, surgical masks work for what they are designed to do: protect people with weak or compromised immune systems from YOUR germs. Medical personnel in operating theaters, intensive care units and new-natal nurseries wear them all the time. They do not protect the wearer from other people. You need an N95 or a respirator (properly fitted and correctly worn) to do that. Back to the book. The main problem with the Ebola scenario was that the reader was supposed to be concerned for Jermaine and the captain, yet Mrs Fisher could waltz in and out of the quarantine area wearing a respirator and the attitude of “I’ve already been exposed so I don’t need protective gear like gloves or gowns and I don’t have to worry about spreading it around the ship to my other friends.” If the main character doesn’t react to a deadly virus like it’s a deadly virus, then the reader doesn’t either. Thankfully, books 8-10 were more like the earlier books and I enjoyed the stories and Mrs Fisher’s return to England. One last comment on book 6. Perhaps Mr Higgs should check his female facts. “I found an underwire bra which was a relief to put on” said no woman ever.

Must read this set 1st. It is a REAL WHO DONE IT!!

The Patricia Fisher Mysteries is written by Steve Higgs. I enjoyed Book one (I was not aware of this book set then) of his Patricia Fisher series. It was such a good, mystery, comedy, great friends with NO swear words or blatant sex. Although there were difficult mysteries to solve, more comedy, great friends, love and trust. I felt like I was missing something, there was talk about a cruise and the friends Patricia met and the many mysteries she had solved prior to this book. I totally enjoyed the first book so went looking for another in the series and found this wonderful ten book set. My goodness, this kept me entertained throughout the entire
10 books. It answered all the questions I had about what came before the first book I read.
Patricia is an English housewife who found her husband of over 20 years in bed with her best friend. Needless to say Patricia was flabbergasted!! Racing back home she started packing and in a Gin&Tonic infused rage took all their money and went on a round the world cruise. I can't tell you much more or I will give it away. Just know that this laugh out loud mystery gets better if possible with every page I read. The hijinks Patricia gets herself and her friends into makes Agatha Christy's books seem like children's stories! There is mayhem, murders, unique friendships, lots of in-depth old fashion detective stories that will leave you laughing and wanting more. I couldn't put it down. Steve Higgs is an excellent author who I know I will be reading again and again as will you when you dive into this excellent series!
Happy reading!!

I picked up this series via Prime Reading. I wanted to like it. It really needs better editing. The plot was pretty good and made me want to get to the end of the first book, even if some of the situations were rather far-fetched.

Some of the editing issues I became frustrated with are:
-A "suspect" was described early on as in his 30s. Then a couple of chapters later, he is described again as in his 50s.
-The book is written in first person and some of the narrative "interruptions" happen when another character is speaking, but there is no new paragraph. I'm no expert, but I can't recall reading a paragraph of dialogue and having the narrative not relate to the character who is speaking.
-At one point the characters are reading a news article about a heist and it said the man's "fingers were found at the scene." That threw me and totally took me out of the story. I'm thinking that it should have been "fingerprints." However reading on, I found out that the man's actual fingers were found. It would have made more sense to describe it as "severed fingers."
-An American character used the phrase "in hospital." Americans say "in the hospital."

I was tempted to read the other books, because yes, the plot was intriguing. But the errors were annoying and the character development was lacking. There are too many other books I would rather read.

Since beginning this series last month, I have read a few books to kind of give me a break—reading over 20 books in a series is quite a haul. But I kept getting pulled into the Patricia Fisher character. Kind of like watching 5 seasons of Murder She Wrote in one session. Lol

But I could not pull myself away from Steve Higgs fascinating ability to put on to paper ( rather probably computer) so many stories in such a short period of time and manage to keep the stories and characters so down to earth, comical, loving, smart and kind…….and damned lucky. Lol. Like Steve, I cried at one point (have to read the authors messages at end of each book to know what this is—no spoilers from this reader. But those writers notes are much more interesting than most so make sure you don’t miss them. There’s not pages & pages of thanking so many unknown faces—just short message from author & then about other writings.

But I think I could read months of Patricia & her antics along with her best loved friends and characters. They are funny stories that show a genius wrapped up in Steve Higgs mind.

You need to begin this series at beginning and not stop til all available books are read. How you read them soon and enjoy as much as I have. Going to begin another series of his now but haven’t made my mind up which.

Fun read

Stumbled on these by accident and decided to give them a try and haven't laughed so much while reading in a long time. Whilst some of the storylines are a little bit far fetched, that just adds to the quirkiness of the series, making the books all the more enjoyable. I even ended up being banned from reading them I bed as I was keeping my hubby awake laughing at Patricia and her friends antics.

When Patricia walks in on her husband of 30 years and her best friend of more than 50 years betraying her in the worst way, she decides to empty all their bank accounts and finally take that cruise she's always wanted to go on. In her distressed state she ends up blowing all the money on a cruise around the World for 3 months, staying in the most expensive suite on the ship.

What is supposed to be a relaxing holiday turns into disaster after disaster as she's accused of murder within hours and fights to clear her name, alongside her trusted butler and the gym instructor. They comically, but very accurately, take on mystery after mystery solving each of them. However, nothing is plain sailing and they get into a fair amount of trouble and danger along the way.

Very light hearted and easy read and would happily recommend.

I love this series and Patricia Fisher!

Mr. Biggs wasn't going when he said it would keep you up all night trying to figure out - who dun it?🤔😁
A series of personal growth, self discovery, unlikely friendships, trips around the world and of course - murder. I think I would really like this book as a series on Hallmark Movies and Mystery channel. It wasn't very easy to figure out who the killer was, but the dialogue and situations Ms. Fisher finds herself in are quite funny.

I rather love the book where her "git of a husband" ends up on the cruise and then when he realizes she isn't the same and truly doesn't need of want him, he tells her "I'm leaving you!" 😆

Fans of Ms. Marple, Poirot, and even Murder She Wrote would like this charming series. Great for a rainy day, long flight or drive.

I have never read any of Steve Higgs books before but I saw a video of a lady reading them and she was laughing fit to burst and as they were 99p on Amazon I thought they were worth a look at. To be fair I didn't laugh like the woman in the video, and they were really far fetched but I absolutely loved them. The main characters were really loveable, and I know that I will read more of the Patricia Fisher novels.

Quick blurb - Patricia catches her husband in bed with her best friend, and quickly goes home, empties their bank account, packs her stuff and leaves. She eventually ends up on a round the world cruise, in the best suit on the boat but mayhem and trouble follows her and she ends up being a super sleuth.

I would recommend these books if you like Agatha Christie and Jessica Fletcher type of detective stories x

What fun, likeable characters (well those that are supposed to be anyway), interestiung places and murder and mayhem. Despite these books being basically cosy mysteries it is surprisingly difficult to figure out who the bad guys are sometimes - othertimes not so much. I like a more light hearted murder mystery in between the real serious stuff and usually read one for every 2 or 3 more intense books - but this time I read all 10 Patricia Fisher books one after the other - shows how much I enjoyed them. Basically it is the story of a downtrodden and cheated upon wife who in a moment of rashness books herself into the best suite on a luxury liner, the scrapes she gets herself into and the friends she makes along the way. I am definitely going to read the next series about when she returns to shore and sets up a detective agency.

Loved It, Loved It, Loved It!

Thank you Steve Higgs for writing this fun and addictive series. I bought one by chance and have so far read through these mysteries set on board the cruise ship and consumed all your other Patricia Fisher stories. I loved the way you had middle aged Patricia vent her frustration at her life and take off on an adventure, the characters you introduced to befriend her and the super sleuth skills she has discovered. The books are funny and interesting whodunits that keep you intrigued till the end as Patricia solves each case often in the face of ridicule and doubt. I am eagerly waiting on you finishing the next new book in her adventures but to while away the time had better start on all your other titles!

Patricia Fisher Mysteries: Set of Ten Books by Steve Higgs - I loved these books. Each one is an adventure where Patricia solves a mystery, usually a murder. They are fun reading and short so you can enjoy without investing days to finish the entire book. She finds out her husband has been sleeping with her best friend. In a fury, she withdraws all the money from their accounts and goes on a cruise around the world. She wants to leave immediately so she takes the last suite available which turns out to be the Windsor Suite, the most expensive on the ship, with her own Butler. She finds out she is a competent woman and spends the next nine months cruising and making new friends. I enjoyed the read.

This is ten books! These are fun, lighthearted mysteries and enjoyable to read. A couple I thought were almost implausible situations around the 7-8th books( since I read them on kindle they all run together). I do wish that instead of getting the whole series they would be like most free books, after you read one, return it to kindle and then pick up the next when ready. Sometimes I like to change authors between books or read a different genre.
If you like mysteries with no foul language, a sense of decorum, humor, and just enjoyment you will like this series. I find it refreshing to see an author who has enough command of language that he can describe a situation, where characters are unsavory, without using one curse word, yet you get the point exactly!

What fun!

Take a 53 year old British housewife, a cheating husband, the best friend he cheats on her with, and you have the beginning of a whole new life. Patricia Fisher cleans out her husband's bank accounts and goes on an around the world cruise. It's on the world's largest cruise ship that she discovers a gift for solving crimes and begins to find herself. Each of the 10 books is a different port stop and different challenges to be solved. The Philippine butler becomes her best friend, as well as the bubbly blond fitness instructor. Throw in a handsome captain of the ship, and Patricia Disney's life is just about complete. What wonderful escapism!

Highly improbable but gloriously awesome

So much fun to be able to read all 10 books as one continuous story thanks to Kindle Unlimited. Well thought out escapades with mysteries to solve where I wasn’t immediately guessing the answers and enjoyable cast of characters. Good vacation read, good for a bit of inspiration to get a personal trainer, work out more and stick with it. I enjoyed every book other than the captain’s nephew part - wished that had been different. Then there’s the highly improbable but gloriously awesome final ending that isn’t really the end if there are more Mrs Fisher mysteries to come…

Loved this cozy mystery series!

I enjoy reading cozy mysteries and just happened to stumble across this 10 book series! I read a lot, but due to isolation and eventual quarantine, i have read much more than usual. I put off starting the Patricia Fisher series due to it's length. What a mistake!! Once I started I could not put it down. The twists and turns and humorous descriptions were wonderful. Belly laughs abounded! It was a refreshing change from the usual "formula" adventures of many cozy mystery series. Please don't stop writing...you have a fan for life!
