Don't Bungee Jump Naked and other important stuff

Rate this book
Humorist Jeanne Robertson has entertained audiences for five decades with her original, hilarious stories. In her new release, this “Grandma Gone Viral” with millions of views on YouTube shares some of her classic stories and introduces new ones. Jeanne’s collection of stories, Don’t Bungee Jump Naked and other important stuff is worth the time to sit, read and laugh. A variety of stories included in this collection have served Jeanne well through the years. Most of these older stories have been updated for this book, often with little epilogues that provide, as Paul Harvey used to say, “the rest of the story.” Other stories are based on events that happened recently. A few stories even appear for the first time. All her favorite characters are featured, including Left Brain, Toni - Queen of Everything, “bestest” friend Norma Rose, son Beaver and Jane Tucker from NYC! Some new characters are also introduced - the toothpick man, the young entrepreneur, and a giant marmot - just to name a few. What could possibly go wrong on a trip to Hawaii, an eight-day rafting trip through the Grand Canyon or a trip with your “bestest” friend to Las Vegas? Why shouldn’t you send Left Brain to the grocery store, and how did son Beaver lose his car? Utilizing her charming southern writing style, her descriptive story-telling and her genuine, self-effacing humor, Jeanne provides the reader with answers to these questions and many more. Get ready to laugh, and constantly be reminded to look for humor - everywhere

Some repeats but so funny

Jeanne tells a story like no one else with beautiful comedic timing and that lovely southern accent. Most of these stories I had heard in her YouTube videos but they were just as funny in print and there were some new additions to the stories. Most of them I read hearing Jeanne’s voice in my head.

This began as a DVD created from theater shows. While I do own her entire collection, I was at the taping of the show, so I have not actually read the hard copy. Jeanne Robertson is a former Miss Carolina (1963) and Miss Congeniality, Miss America. Jeanne stumbled into her career as a Public Speaker before she stumbled into her humor career. Many first heard her on Sirius Satellite Radio, and when that went and exploded, theater shows were born.
Sadly, Jeanne died on September 21, 2021, though her humor lives on. Her You Tube channel continues to explode as her fans, old and new, continue to enjoy her everyday humor. Jeanne is well know for her generational humor, taken from everyday life, As she’s known to say, if you look around the Thanksgiving table and you don’t see any ‘nuts,’ then it’s YOU😍😍😍.
OK - full disclosure - my family and I had the privilege of being friends of the Robertson family for more than a decade. We are blessed and I am never at an airport when I don’t half expect my phone to ring and it’s J asking how long I’ve been waiting for my flight,,
So, I promise pure enjoyment in every single book, DVD, CD, appropriate for everyone in your family!

I just finished reading this book. So Much Fun!! I must admit I was a little wary as I know a whole bunch of her stories but I had a little faith that it would all work for the best. My first suggestion before reading this book [which you can do while you wait for it to arrive] is watch or listen to a clip, any clip. My favorite is "Don't line dance in the ladies room" with "Men Don't know the Style in New York City" as a very close second. Listen to her speak so you can hear her voice as you read [I don't know who that other voice is when I read other books but she or he sure is not Jeanne Robertson!]. Then get yourself a nice beverage [hot, cold, room temperature, it doesn't matter but maybe get one that won't stain the floor in case you jiggle as you read]. I have to leave out the part about get it now before the intentional typos are removed, as that might make this review too long. I will however leave in the part about finding out about ice cubes. Who knew? [that little gem is between page ix and page 222]. Go to JeanneRobertson.com [no i in "Jeanne"]. Order it. Get it autographed if you like. You will not be disappointed and you sure will find lots and lots of humor! As Jeanne always says "Keep Laughing!". This book sure will help! ❤

Jeanne Robertson is a treasure. We were fortunate to have seen her “rocking chair” theater show a few years ago, and have watched numerous YouTubes. Reading this book is a great way to honor her memory. We will miss her, but her stories will live forever. I must say I had some trouble reading this book. I found it quite challenging to read when I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard! A very enjoyable book which includes a lot about herself, and those closest to her, and even though I knew most of her stories, they made me laugh over and over. She is a treasure.

I don't often read humour but this book was "clean and fun" and it didn't disappoint me. Four of the 40 stories were especially 'laugh-out-loud' hilarious: "Don't Send a Man to the Grocery Store" (my favourite); "Don't Ask Left Brain to Bring in the Luggage"; "Make a Statement" and "It's Fun to Play Along". The titled story "Don't Bungee Jump Naked" was even inspired by this American author's visit to western Canada. And why was one of her relatives named "Beaver"? That's a whole other story that may or may not have anything to do with the TV show "Leave It To Beaver". You decide.

wonderful

Wonderful humorist! Since I’m from Alabama, I can understand the southernisms she uses. Also I’m in my late 60s and can identify with her that way. My husband and I saw her in Birmingham, AL a few years ago and we laughed until we cried. If you want a good laugh, by a book, CD or video. You won’t regret it.

I had the pleasure of hearing Jeanne speak as well as meet her in person twice before her death. She was in person exactly who she was in stage…friendly, outgoing, down to earth…just a delight. I’m so glad I own this book so I can read her hilarious stories now and then.

So relatable and funny, self deprecating and approachable. I'd love to have met her. She taught me to look for the humor in everything.
