Kids will love this. Good gift if the smell isn't as strong as the new copy I borrowed from the public library. Librarian notes: Thick colorful book with such a strong ink smell I could barely stand to read through it. So many graphic novels are like this too. I think this toxic ink smell ruins the experience. Borrowed from public library and binding was already starting to give way even though in new condition. IMO, it will not hold up to school library borrowing. Sold in trade binding. OverDrive ebook expires in 12 months ($17.50).
One good part is the Lego creations are creative and easy to do. The buildings and creations are put in sections which I like because you can look in the table of contents and turn to a page and it saves tons of time. I also like that there are different skill levels. One not so good thing about the book is that it is mainly pictures and not a lot of word instructions. But mostly, I really like this book. Personally, I am not a LEGO person, but this book was cool. I can see how anyone who likes to build with these plastic pieces would be inspired by this. It includes the author's own history of how he came to do what he does, a history and facts galore about LEGO, and many pages with steps on how to create your own designs. This is a must for any LEGO enthusiast and for any library.
This book looks like it has tons of cool stuff, but my Lego-loving son is probably a bit too young to appreciate it. Despite being four, he flies through Lego instruction books, but he's not as good at improvising when he doesn't have the exact color or piece that the instructions calls for, so this book wasn't the best for him. This book is definitely worth revisiting later!
Cute projects for kids. May revisit the picture frame later (it has the stand on a hinge in the back). Formatted strangely for digital, tons of blank pages in between.
