Bizarre book. The book contains two of Macomber's early stories and the first 4 chapters of s Christmas book by another author. The title must have been picked out of thin air. The two Macomber stories are almost identical. The first is about the widow of a police officer and his former partner. The second is about two divorced parents of 11 years girls who are best friends. Both stories involve extremely vocal and often bratty kids, extreme reactions to sexual encounters, and lots of coffee! Don't waste your time unless you have a lot of it. Quick read.
There are two stories in this book. They both have bratty kids and poor discipline by parents. One is about a widow and one is divorced both with stories that go back and forth—yes I want a relationship/no never. The adults act immature and silly most of the time. The second book did have humorous aspects that made me laugh out loud. Both relationships focus so much on the physical attraction you feel like you’re reading about teenagers. Not really worth the time.
2 novellas & an excerpt from another book at the end.. the first novella I didn’t really like- the dynamics between the 2 weren’t great and the children did not act like their ages at all. The second novella was cute & fun. The excerpt at the end was ok but didn’t hook me.
The most important question I had after reading the book was how the hell the title and cover art was picked, since none of the stories were set in the spring or were by the sea. Very strange.
Worst Debbie macomber book I’ve ever read and the first one I’ve never finished. Firstly I love Debbie macomber books but the male character in this book is an absolute asshole I couldn’t imagine anyone liking him let alone loving him. If it were me and my son and I were widowed god forbid but RUN!!!! I would NEVER allow myself to be in a situation like Lynn’s. The book made me uncomfortable to say the least RUN!!!!
2 short stories by Macomber and a book excerpt by Novak.
The first story kinda made me sick. Should have had a trigger warning that the male character was going to practically force himself on the single mom/widow of his best friend and then be a dick later.
Second story was ok for light, mindless beach reading.
The book excerpt wasn't bad, but didn't make me want to get into the extensive series.
The main male character in the first book gave me major ick. While the author tried to smooth it out in the last few pages, it was too little too late.
The second book was slightly better, but it was still a two star book. The main characters weren't on the same page and suddenly in the last 15 pages all is perfect with barely a conversation. The endings of both books needed more development.
I love when they combine two great stories into one book. Always with Debbie Macomber books she writes the characters so realistic and I feel like I know them, the situations they are going through during the story and always find myself invested in their lives. Great author, great stories.
Both stories were very sweet and full of emotions. Each story talked about how young children/ preteens experience losing a parent and how they find another parent figure in a person that their mom/dad fall in love with.
The kids don’t act their age but just suspend your disbelief and you will enjoy these books! I did! I read this book for the plot of the first story but I ended up like book two better. The romance felt more natural and not as back and forth as story 2(though the quick break ups are a staple of this author) they did happen in both.
Felt the second story just rushed to make it a happy ending. Wish they would have gotten married and blend the 2 families together. A little something missing
I love Debbie Macomber and enjoy her books this one was no different. It took a little bit of time to get into it but once I did, it went fairly quickly.
This was two love stories in one book. Love stories about second loves. Short and easy reading. Not my favorite books of Debbie’s but again, easy reading.
This book is a re-release of two of Macomber's older works (from 1989). I was quickly reminded that her more recent work is far better than her older books. The first story was definitely not up to her current standards; the second one was better than the first, but still lacking.
The book also included a short story by Brenda Novak. This story was not at all in keeping with Macomber standards -- it was a total waste of time and I would not recommend this author.
