What's it like to be a monster in a town full of monsters, who don't know you're a monster?Complicated and a little scary, but doable. What's it like to be the girl who can't die...that everyone seems to always want to kill?Frustrating as hell. What's it like to accidentally raise psychotic alpha vampire everyone fears, who drops a lot of bodies on his first day out as a 'gift' for your troubles?Terrifying, if I'm being honest. What's it like when that crazed vampire tells you he wants you to be the happy little intermission, during an ongoing ancient story, and expects you to use your vagina to draw in a werewolf alpha, a Van Helsing alpha, and a sexual deviant alpha, so he can have his old friends back? That's when a girl has to stop, look around, and question her life choices.I really don't know how this stuff keeps happening to me. Life was simpler when it was just me accidentally blowing myself up while trying to create potions and shampoo.I've lived my life in such secrecy that I've spent most of it lonely. So lonely, in fact, that my best friend is a delusional ghost. I'd rather focus on her than all the crazy things happening in my life at current. Ever since coming to this town, I've had my throat slit by vampires, attracted way too much attention from some powerful alphas, and did a lot of regrettably stupid things because...I'm too gullible for shady monsters. To them, I'm the fool.To them, I'm the naive girl in over my head.To them, I'm the pawn on a worn chessboard, while the seasoned players knock me around.Meanwhile, I'm still left to figure it all out on my own, because, just like me, no one wants to share their secrets.**Reverse Harem**Sexual Content**DARK HUMOR**Cannot be read as a stand-alone (Gypsy Blood is book 1.)**Language warning

Kristy Cunning always loves a good laugh, and lives and breathes the emotions of the characters she becomes attached to.

Though she came from a family of musicians, she has zero abilities with instruments; she sounds like a strangled cat when she sings; and her dancing is downright embarrassing. Just ask anyone who knows her. Her creativity rests solely in the written word. Her family is grateful that she gave up her quest to become a famous singer.

Only a little Freaky...

I finished Gypsy Freak in one day and I can thank the Energy company for helping me out with that. Yes, it sucked me in and had me rushing to find out what would happen next, but, when you have no power for a couple of hours, what else to do, but read. Ok, I probably SHOULD have taken the kids on an adventure, but I was also using it as a bit of a test. I wanted to prove to my kids that they COULD(!!!) survive without WiFi, Xbox and the TV. All around, it was a very successful day and they did SURVIVE!!

Holy Shamoly!! Gypsy Freak sure did pack a punch. We're definitely getting a bit of that reverse harem action in this one. No, it's not a big orgy like I originally pictured but Violet is getting up close and personal with each of the monsters. It's a funny one because I'm not at all uncomfortable with the way it's all playing out. I'm normally the first one running for the hills at the first sign of cheating, but it's not at all like that. I guess you would have to read it to get what I mean.

I was pretty surprised how this one played out, to be honest. Violet is such a complicated character and with each revelation, I found myself wondering what more could she handle. There's this innocence she carries around because of her lack of knowledge and understanding of the monsters and this place she now calls home. The secret that Violet tries to hide from the monsters is one step closer to being exposed and I'm not confident their reactions will be positive. Violet has lost a lot of her loved ones and each additional one seems to leave her further damaged. Her absent father seems to be a bit of a waste of space when it comes to parenting.

I'm pretty stoked that Kristy Cunning is not making us wait long between instalments. 3 weeks isn't a long wait and I'm fairly confident this storyline will be fresh in my mind when I get to #3.

I don't know how to explain Gypsy Freak and do it justice. It's humorous, a little weird and decidedly different from other books I've read in this genre. I was entertained from start to finish and my emotions took a somewhat bumpy ride. These monsters definitely do go bump in the night.

I'm definitely going back for more.

I've never given a Kristy Cunning book such a low rating, but honestly this was just confusing.

The book felt like a random series of events strung together by the thinnest of plot lines. When I think back, I'm not sure what even happened for most of it.

Violet is a bit spineless, and I don't really like any of the guys. This is a far cry from Paca and her men - those were charming arseholes. These are just vague randomers who don't really like Violet and whose mysteriousness is just making me lose interest in them, rather than keeping me hooked.

I can't not read a Kristy Cunning because her writing is some of the best out there, especially because RH is a mostly self-published (and thus very hit-and-miss) field, but I'll admit to some disappointment.

✅ Multiple POVs
✅ Anna
✅ Future RH / Some spice
✅ Werewolves, vampires, and magic
✅🆗 World-building (I still have a lot of questions...)
✅🆗 Plot
✅🆗 Main character
✅🆗 Love interests
🆗❌ BIG SECRET trope
❌ The cover
❗️❗️Trigger warning: mentions of death and ghosts, attempted murder and murders, blood, death of loved one

3 or 3.5 stars

Here is a summary of this book:
-Violet still doesn’t know anything about what being a Portocale gypsy means, or the mysterious curse the guys are victims of.
-Violet is still running around, fishing for answers.
-People are still trying to kill Violet for one reason or another.
-Violet seemed to have forgotten that she needed to figure out who killed her mother.
-Random ghost sickness plotline that seems to be forgotten as soon as it is introduced.
-The last 15% were great and now I am too intrigued not to read the next book.

It’s weird. Objectively, this series is not that amazing so far. Violet is a rather bland main character (although she seems to be starting to grow a spine a little more), and we don’t know much about the love interests to truly grow attached to them. Violet seems to be completely clueless about whatever is going on around her, and while I find myself annoyed with all this vagueness and lack of information in the world-building, I am intrigued and entertained enough to want to continue with this series…

I wanted more angst. The ending of the first book was surprising, shocking, and promised angst after the betrayal Violet suffered. Yet, we quickly find out that she is made to forget that betrayal, and when she finally remembers it, she gets over it pretty easily. She is still pissed at Arion, but the angst and intense emotions I was hoping for were absent.

‘’Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m really dumb or just too damn stupid to live. Then I remember I can’t die, so option number one it is.’’

Violet is not the best, or most interesting main character so far, but she is becoming more and more interesting, so there is hope yet for her. She has the potential to be a real badass, considering she cannot die, but she still feels like a lost puppy running around and trying to understand what is happening, and being unable to resist the guys at times (while being able to resist and ignore them at others). That is not entirely her fault, the guys are not being forthcoming at all, but I am getting tired of her (and me) being left in the dark, and this feeling that all Violet does is look for answers she cannot find.

It's annoying not to know what’s going on, and to have no idea of the direction this series is heading toward. I am ready for her to learn everything there is to know about the curse and the gypsy ways she seems to know nothing about, and for her to be able to focus on something else, like the death of her mother, the fact that ghosts are dying around her because of something her mother did, or the fact that so many people are trying to kill her.

He narrows his eyes. “If you think she’s deliberately fucking with us, why are you in a hurry to get over there?”
I grin. “Because I positively love that in a woman.”

I like the guys, but at the same time, I don’t care for them all that much. It’s weird. I like them as characters, and they all have their vibe and quirks, but I don’t feel that much chemistry between Violet and them. They are obsessed with her for some reason (probably her Portocale blood because it sure as hell is not her dance skills or interesting personality), and she finds them all hot and can’t seem to stay away from them, but there is no true chemistry! I get that this is a slow burn, and I have no problem with that, but I want more sexual tension, more banter, deeper connections, more everything to get on board with the idea of Violet ending in a RH with these 4 guys. Emit mostly feels annoyed because Violet does not seem to care about him, Vance keeps her at arm’s length because she’s a Portocale, Damien ignores her because he’s paranoid, and Arion is still playing his games and while he clearly would not be opposed to having his way with her, I can’t say that I feel sizzling heat between them.

There was a lack of comedic relief due to Anna's absence for most of the book. I know she was over-the-top ridiculous in the first book, but I loved her constant commentary so much! I missed it a lot in this book. I do hope there will be more banter of sass between the different characters in the next book to make up for the lack of obscene comments from our favorite ghost.

On a side note, this cover is horrendous. I don’t know what’s happening with this series' covers, but thankfully, Gypsy Blood’s cover looked better, or I would never have given it a try.

Sexy and humorous!

Gypsy Freak (All the Pretty Monsters) by Kristy Cunning is book two in the series. This is a very humorous book with sexy monsters and lots of secrets! The mysteries are some of the fun parts! Love how all of this is unraveling. Great fun!

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the previous one. It wasn’t as funny although it was still entertaining. It felt at times like it was treading water. We’re no clearer about what’s going on and I’d more or less decided I was done but then the end of the book picked up. Which means I’m moving straight onto the next one.

Violet. What can I say about her?
Nothing good so I’ll let her describe herself.

>‘Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m really dumb or just too damn stupid to live. Then I remember I can’t die, so option number one it is.’

She’s summed herself up perfectly so thanks for that Violet.

This series has so much potential and I’m really hoping it ends well. I don’t mind being kept in the dark as long as the ending is worth it. Please let the ending be worth it.

What worries me is I loved Four Psychos and Three Trials. But Two Kingdoms was unbelievably dull and tedious. It was so bad (in my opinion) that I didn’t even read the bonus scene or the final book.

So I’m crossing my fingers and moving straight onto Gypsy Origins.

Still fun!

Ok, so sometimes Violet can be a bit annoying, it's the only reason why I didn't give this one 5 stars.
Still, Anna is one of the best characters ever, you can't help but love her.

We get a new character though, this Ace guy. I guess his real identity is a bit predictable, but for some reason I like him. I don't know if he'll end up being the bad guy, although I really hope not. Again, he has potential and I like him. Hope he doesn't have to die.

The annoying part is that it ends in a cliffhanger, so I suggest you have the next book before you finish this one or it will definitely be annoying.

I have so many questions...

Gypsy Freak was an okay sequel to the first book of All The Pretty Monsters series. At first, this book started off a bit slow and was boring. I did, however, really enjoy it. I'll admit it, it got a bit better after certain part (or twists) that came up.

Throughout the book.. well, I just had so many questions popping up and shit. It was annoying not really knowing what was going on.. and I still have no idea. I feel like I just want to know more about what happened to Anna.. or what's going on with the ghosts.

The guys were okay in this one as well. I'm glad that they are sort of getting to know Violet more.. but I don't really understand the ending of this book. Like with all the questioning about her and what's her motive. It also really annoyed me when they were comparing her to the other girl before her.

I also didn't like that they have secrets and shit from each other. Like no, talk with each other and let it all out. Communication is key and I have a feeling like shit is going to hit the fan in the next book. Oh lord, can't wait.

I am officially obsessed with this series, i finished it in one siting and couldnt put it down for a second cuz there were so many secrets and mystry. My heart hurt for Anna, i loved her character so much but in this book she is gone. This series is filled with suspense and i enjoy ever second of reading it. The romance between the character are slow but perfect nonetheless, i am so glad for that cuz in most of the reverse harem there is insta love but this series is a slow burn but this book was too slow comparing to the first one. Violet is an innocent girl but her character has so much dept and holds so many secrets, she has a dark side which she doesnt even know and we get to see that side on this book. It was so interesting and so many revelations, the ending got me more excited for the third book which i am about to start asap cuz i have to know about the mystery their town holds and more about Violet. She is the main character but you truly dont get to know more about her, you just have to keep reading to know what she truly is and i love that so much about this series. None of the characters are predictable, you just love them but actually have no idea what they are capable of doing or what happened in their past. Each secret reveals as you keep reading which kept me hooked. I am seriously loosing my mind cuz i am so in love with this series. Probably the best reverse harem series ever. The relationship the guys have is so unique, they used to be best friends even tho 3 of them are monsters and one of them is a monster hunter but centuries ago their friendship broke for some reason but now since they are obsessed with Violet, they have to stand each other and behave nice to protect her.

Even tho this book might seem like normal supernatural reverse harem book, let me tell you, ITS NOT! Its so much more than that. I have read many paranormal RH book and this series is nothing like that. The plot is so interesting and the writing is captivating, as you keep reading you just cant stop and the suspense is a bonus and simultaneously its hilarious.

It was a beautiful sunny day. Warm for January, still you could feel the bite in the air. The House was eerily quiet as I sat in the sunroom, enjoying my Summer Berry Trifle in blissful peace. I wasn't fooled though, I knew the calm could cease at any moment, potential for chaos around every corner. So I ate as fast as I could. I didn't quite gulp my dessert down but it was a close call.

While lifting my spoon full of deliciousness to my mouth a cloud of dust erupted on my right. A few seconds later a new cloud formed on my left. It wasn't ordinary dust, it was Fangirling Dust , the most lethal dust of them all.

I didn't need to look to my sides to know who was there, there were only two people who insisted on using Fangirling Dust , stubbornly refusing to acknowledge that it was basically useless when trying to distract on your away in and/or out of places and that it made them cough instead of the rest of us. Gaby & Jessica had arrived and were coughing up a lung as I covered my dessert.

I continued on like nothing was amiss. I knew why they were here. I run into Sh3lly on my way to the kitchen mumbling about Greek Mythology and listened in when another member talked with her. I knew what was up, as I knew it was a matter of time until those two popped in unannounced on me.

Of course this didn't make it any easier as they just sat there staring at me while I ate. They knew not to touch my food, so they waited for me to cave. Which I did, cause those two can be creepy when they put their minds to it.

"What?" I asked. And I immediately knew it was a mistake although I had no other choice.

They started chirping in stereo, cause of course they would. I didn't catch anything coming out of their mouths. I held up a hand for a time out. They humoured me.

Jessica: "Book #2 is out! I am getting it!"

Gaby: "It is? It is! Should I get it? Hmm I should get it. Maybe I shouldn't. Should I? Peer pressure! I should. I'm getting it!"

"I am aware. I will get to it after I finish my dessert."
I tell them. And start eating again.

"Ok!" They say in unison and proceed to just sit there and stare at me some more, until I finally finish it and stand to leave. They poof out in another cloud of that vile dust and I hear them coughing furiously in the kitchen a few seconds later. I shake my head, releasing a deep sigh as I do, as I go to get comfortable before I start reading, The House once again steeped into a deceptive silence.

I sit, open the book and the next thing I know three hours have passed and I have finished it. My emotions are a little of balance. I liked it and I didn't.

To begin with, I have to express the strongest of displeasures on how Anna's role in this was handled. I absolutely adored her and I am going to miss her something fierce! On a related note: Creepy Triplets, I so approve! We do need them to be moar in the story in Book #3.

The pacing was good. We got a couple of teeny tiny things as far as info goes, although the gaps in our knowledge are maddening. In another case this might have made the read unpleasant but they way this is written helps to just drive you slightly mad instead of raving mad. Silver linings and all that.

I have to say that I adore all four of the guys. Their characters are great and their POVs add so much to the story. Violet has improved in this as well. Gone is the invisible little flower. I quite like how she thinks and how she handles a few things. I really want to see how she further evolves, how they all evolve.

All in all I —

*cloud of Fangirling Dust erupts right in front of me, sound of coughing following in its wake*

Gaby: "We have the other book we have to read. I have been waiting. When do we start?"

"Let me finish this and we can start"

*stares at me with a big smile while clutching book to her chest and shifting from foot to foot*

As I was saying, all in all I enjoyed it, thouhg it is nothing to lose your head over. Anxiously awaiting Book #3 now and if there's isn't a certain amount of Creepy Triplets, Arion, Emit and answers in it, I will fucking riot and it won't be pretty.

P.S.: Yes, I can do irrelevant like a #boss (ヅ)

This book definitely had a bit of "Sequel Syndrome" where it is clear that everything that is happening is only a set up for the next book. Not a lot happens but there is a lot of squabbling and petty drama.

That being said, it was still fun to read and I enjoy the banter and silliness of four guys that kind of hate each other attempting to sabotage one another in the most ridiculous ways ever. The relationships they have with one another are dynamic and fun which is different than many other reverse harems out there where they guys just care about getting their dicks wet and they all get along to achieve that goal.

The first book in the series was definitely funnier than this one.
We continue to follow the story of Violet, the mystery girl who can’t die, as she navigates her complicated existence, with ghosts and monsters surrounding her at all times. There are still so many unanswered questions, and her relationships keep getting more and more tangled. I was very entertained reading this, but I miss the sidekick!

It took me a while to review this because I just wasn't sure when I finished what to make of it.

I usually a pretty impulsive rater so my initial instinct to rate the 4 stars solely based on the ending would have been brash.

Its a massive let down after such a wonderful start in Gypsy Blood I can't say I'm surprised really when the same thing happened with Four Psychos. But hey at least we didn't get bogged down in perfectly perfect imperfections, balance and selfishly selfishness...It was just a different sort of confusing, the kind when I look back I feel a little

Right off the bat there is a distinct lack of comedic intervention from a certain Ghost.

The one lasting thing I will take away is that I now can set in stone my most hated of all tropes and plot devices. The big secret.

So frustrating. Keep the knowledge from the whole world sure, but please don't keep it from the love interest/s. The whole book was filled with secrets, everyone has them. I think this added another layer to the confusion. Looking back I can't even remember what the rest of the book was about other than Anna, the secrets and the ending.

So I wouldn't call that a success

I will continue because the ending did leave it in a better place, so maybe it would be better to put this down to the dreaded book 2 slump

I’m come to the decision that this series is going to follow the same method as Cunning’s previous series - The Four Horseman - and by that I mean completely random, frustrating, confusing as hell, and consistently left with more questions than answers until THE LAST PART OF THE LAST BOOK!

Violet really frustrated me this book - again, same as a Paca did - with her naïveté. She hears one of the hero’s tell the other hero’s how pathetic she is and then just forgets and has sex with them...🧐🤨 Needless to point out, nothing about her came off as strong in this book.

The guys, assholes who don’t have to work very hard to make her putty in their hands.

Also, I was severely turned off and disturbed when Violet let Anna “borrow” her body to have sex with one of the Hero’s and HE WENT THROUGH WITH IT! I don’t care that it was technically Violets body, the Hero pointed out the difference in personality and he was fully aware that it was Anna he was having sex with...AND VIOLET DISNT CARE!!

Sex in this book came off as being nothing of importance that I’m not down with that...

I gave the first book a pass because I figured book 2 will answer all the questions I need answering. It didn't . I am still lost as fuck.

The story telling is excellent, I really like the guys POV's even though the guys are kinda lackluster. The one thing that saved this book was the last 17%, I was about to put it on hold but now I'm already locked and loaded to read book 3.

Second time reading on audio
FYIs for anyone who wants to read this series

ONE: Kristy Cunning is a pen name for the one and only C.M Owens aka S.T Abby

Christy Owens wrote contemporary romance, however she had a heart for other genre
she used S.T Abby to write the amazing Mindfck Games
Kristy Cunning is her alter-ego that loves Dark paranormal RH romance

can this woman be any perfect! God bless her soul :(
We lost her too soon

her RH paranormal romances are slow burns. I absolutely love that because she lets her romances simmer on low heat until you reach the flavorish fingertip-licking relationship

book 1 introduced the characters and the connection between them that brought them together

book 2 is the slow turning of spice in the pan to get all those flavors and smells before adding them to the ingredients

I love everything about this series
how they had to clear the secrets and break the walls that prevent them to trust each other before delving into a relationship

Point 2: the word Portocale (Violet's family name) is the Greek Name for Orange. It is used in Greece and Cicilli. Strangely, in Arabic we use a similar word "Bortocala"

Not nearly as funny as the first part, but a lot more action happening and we get to know the characters a bit more.
Unfortunately, my favourite character dies in this one 😢.
Violet though, will turn out to be the biggest, scariest monster, I'm sure of it.

The cover: horrible. WHO DID THIS? Please hire a new artist.

The editing: aye, ya missed some spots. Go back and fix it.

The book:

Ugh, I am NOTTTTT in the mood for a slow burner.
I was hoping for a little more.

Emit only just makes an appearance as a part of the “harem” at the veryyyyyy end.

I feel like the momentum from book 1 accidentally took a wrong turn when mimicking Shera’s driving capabilities.
Seriously.

This book was nothing as it should have been piggy backing off book 1.

AND ANNA.

We knew what would happen.
It didn’t make it any easier.
The comedy was virtually GONE with Anna’s final decay.
I’m certainly crying.

AND THEY AREN’T TEARS OF JOY.

At least the men are somewhat funny because Violet is straight up one second away from Britney Spears 2007. (If her dance moves are any indication of that)

All in all I’m hoping this installment was the buffer book.
Shit better hit the fan hard next book.
If you get what I’m saying *smiles innocently*

When Violet went mental! Holy shit that was intense.

I don’t even know what’s happening and I consider myself quite the puzzle solver. But not this one. It’s too intricate. So delicate and refreshing and I adore this world building.

Those “Houses” is just the best. Love how well they blend together.

Violet is a delight. Love following her trying to stumble through all her troubles and her attractions to those four insanely handsome alphas.

The Van Helsing house is so cool and collected(Biggest fan of anything Van Helsing related -duh Hugh Jackman😍)

And don’t get me started on the others. It’s such a cool idea.

Read: 29/06/2020
1st rating: 4 stars
Genre/tropes: Paranormal/RH/Romance/vampires/shifters/gypsies/Van-Helsing/Dorian-Grey/Dark
Cover: 1 star - so I feel like it matches a specific scene, but not too keen on the graphics🤷🏻‍♀️ It fees a little messy.
POV’s: Multiple- 1st person
Will I recommend: Yes

Again this was just amazing ! Can I say that I love those characters again ? Well I'll say it ! They are so cleverly dumb it's an art performance. Like one of this contemporary sculpture which vaguely makes sens and then doesn't.

I can't wait to read the next one because this was a cliffhanger ! And our girl is sooo badass, and something tells me that we will find out more and more about her !

GUESSING TIME :
I'm starting to think that she is an alpha herself. That would explain why she can't die.

Once my favorite ghost Anna left the game I'm not gonna lie I was expecting to hate or at the very least strongly dislike the book. Anna really made book one for me and all her one-liners at all the wrong moments were oh so right. But I'll say Violet has grown on me. She has so much inner dialogue hilarity just waiting to be shared that I can't help but to like her. Given she and I share the same talents when it comes to dancing (ie. no skill whatsoever) I had no trouble rooting for her and hoping all Anna's naughty little fantasies for Violet would come true.

In true Anna fashion she leaves Violet in a lurch. In this case, right in the middle of sex with Vance. Awkward and hilarious. Luckily the two get over the moment and everyone got their happy moment. Lucky girl, Vance is not the only guy she lands in bed with, as she also manages to rock Damien's world. Even more so as the poor guy hasn't been able to reach a climax in years. All because of Violet's hidden little secret, you know not being able to die and all. By the end of the book her secret-at least amongst the guys-is out and we see the true monster side of Violet or more like we see the aftereffects of her monster side. I still have no clue what she is or where she channeled whatever it was she did that allowed her to slaughter a shit ton of wolves. I'm also loving the fact most of Violet is a mystery to Violet. Her mother did not perhaps purposely give all the dirty details to Violet for whatever reason and Violet has no clue what she is and so readers are experiencing all this right along with her.

Quite a bit happened in the book and I must say I'm hooked. I'm not to keen on a woman being the Yoko Ono to the guys friendship in the past but in a way I'm eager to see Violet win them all over to her side and make that angry bitch rue the day she crawled out of the ground and tried to mess with them. In many ways I'm glad Arian is not the big bad he seemed in book one but rather he's the fourth in her personal harem of men. Poor Violet doesn't even realize how hooked she has some of these guys and it's fun watching them follow her around like puppies all while she self consciously judges herself over minor things. I can't wait to see where the author takes the series and I am so looking forward to it :)
Side note: I read this via audio so if I spelled any of the names wrong, whoops.

Update from 12/15 I’m updating my review and dropping my rating to two stars as I’ve finished this series and found it be hugely disappointing 💔 it’s got more OW drama than any book I’ve ever read and I would not/could not recommend unless you’re just a glutton for punishment and love to suffer

Original review from 12/03
2.5 ★★⊹ but rounded up for Goodreads

I want to like this series, but ya’ll, it’s really hard.

Right off the bat, didn’t love Vance having sex with Anna, didn’t love hearing so much about Emit’s endless harem of women. I personally prefer my romance reads not to have so many mentions of other women and be so in your face with it all.

All the critical details are so confusing and veiled, while Violet is frustratingly awkward and pitiful the entire book. The guys are all lying to her, and shamelessly using her, which she knows, acknowledges, and is just completely fine with, apparently. I don’t think I’ve ever been introduced to such a pitiful character in any book I have ever read. It’s actually hard to read through some of these interactions as Violet just floats from MMC to MMC while being treated like dirt by everyone around her.

Anyway, for me, the “birthday party” was the kiss of death. It was weirdly written and made Violet seem that much more pathetic to me. Your situationship throwing an orgy in your honor on your birthday isn’t romantic, it’s just insulting. And then he ghosts her?! Shocker. Three poor choices in a row and she surely isn’t getting any smarter as she goes.

I can’t imagine reading four more books when I barely made it through this one, but I’m on to the next with my expectations set much lower.

Okay I am so screwed. I have SO much work I need to do this weekend but I simply cannot put these books down. My god.

Violet, Damien, Emit, Arion, and Vance have STOLEN me. Body, mind, and soul. These characters have managed to suck me into their world and I honestly never want to return back to reality. I’m seriously shocked by how much I am enjoying these books.

This book picks up right where book one left off and the story continues to be fast paced, completely unique, and hilarious in just the right moments. I even cried at one point and I haven’t cried over a book in SO long. I’m so invested.

The world that KC has created here is not only huge but it’s well researched and well thought out. It’s confusing 98% of the time but it’s completely intentional so her mind blowing “WOW” moments are that much more shocking.

The STEAMMMM in this book? Lord have mercy. I’m so excited to see what happens in the next one 🖤😈

Still confusing world-building and incomplete or incohesive plot. Editing errors - repeated misuse of “farther” which denotes actual distance, instead of “further” which is a more figurative, unquantifiable term. I still kinda like the characters, and there is some substantive relationship building, which is so often lacking in modern fiction. so I’ll read book 3, but heaven help me if things don’t actually clear up. Again the author’s note at the end assures the reader that all will be made clear. UPDATE after reading book 3: really wish I could go back and prevent myself from reading this series. What a waste of time. The author’s assurances that questions will be answered is a lie. There is no clarification of the magical details or improvement in the writing. Don’t read this unless you love being confused like the main character. Smh. So done with this author. Never again.
