New author, Thetta James, takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride with her debut novel, Love Hurts. Her characters are relatable and endearing. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me want to punch someone! Her storyline was exciting and dramatic. I would have never guessed this was her first book and I can't wait to read the rest of this series!!

Crystal Stephens has a lot going for her. She's the owner of a successful magazine, has two amazing best friends, and a boyfriend who loves her. Even with that, something is missing. Her humdrum relationship is a little too vanilla for her and she craves more . Little did she know, a misstep will have her falling for Jackson In more ways than one.
Crystal is the type of girl who knows what she wants, and when Jackson gets something in his head he will stop at nothing until he gets it.
Their chemistry is so hot, it's like the pages were doused with kerosene and the spark between them scorched the pages! But what happens when an old flame fizzles out and leaves a path of destruction in its path? Will their love burn brightly or will the fire be snuffed out?
Thetta has a way of writing that speaks to the reader and captivates their attention. She ties up all lose ends and leaves no stone unturned. Her characters are likeable and relatable and the passion between them is intoxicating!
She certainly knows how to write a good story and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us in books 2 and 3. I have become invested in these characters and look forward in seeing more of them.

Wow! This book deserves more than 5 stars. I don't read blurbs and didn't know anything about this book before I read it. Thetta took me for one hell of a ride. She hit every emotion and then some. It pulled me in from the very first page and did not let go. It's been a few days and I'm still thinking about it
One of my favorite things about the book is the way Thetta gave these characters life. It's not the normal romance where the characters are so consumed by the other. No. Not at all. She dives into their lives and makes them seem so real. I felt a part of their world which can be hard to do for even the seasoned author. Thetta nailed it in her first try.
Jackson is amazing and Thetta wasn't afraid to show his flaws. This made him even more attractive. People have flaws and lives and they can get sticky.
Crys is a force, a powerful independent woman. She is a successful and doesn't need a man but life is enhanced with one especially one like Jackson.

The words to describe how fantastic this book is escape me. I can’t believe this is her first book. It had me laughing and crying! Aroused and angry. Crystal and Jackson are perfect. The trouble they have is relatable and there are real emotions created when you read what they have to go through! Thank you Thetta for this sweet, romantic and oh so sexy read. Listen you can't👏🏾 tell 👏🏾me👏🏾 this is a debut story by Author Thetta James. My thoughts are everywhere it was so MF good! First, Detective Jackson Barnes, Yesssss when a man knows what he wants and will stop at nothing in his pursuit of his Queen...swoon! Those green eyes, I completely understand Crystal's dilemma. Crystal Stephens is successful, beautiful, and secretly craving fulfillment. I absolutely loved the sweet and loyal friendship she has with Chassity and April. These three ladies love eachother fiercely, and are the epitome of Ride or Die. Author Thetta James is beyond talented. She sucked me into this addicting story immediately.
I thoroughly enjoyed Crystal and Jackson's journey. Thetta James was outstanding in her world building. I was in Heaven when the author infused suspenseful elements of the Colombian drug cartel, FBI, and S.W.A.T. The chemistry between Jackson and Crystal is tangible and the details are so vivid. Looking forward to reading more
I loved Mina. Thetta can write one hell of a villain and man do I feel that woman's pain and darkness. I dont approve of the things she does but she's still one hell of a character. I applaud Thetta on this being her first book. I even found myself screaming at my tablet to warn the characters like they could hear me lol. Love Hurts will brings a verity of emotions to its readers that will stay with you longafter you finish.
I especially enjoyed Crystal and Jackson's connection in the moments of sadness. Yes they have GREAT steamy passion (have a fan near by) but in the moments when one soul can truly comfort another is a beautiful thing to capture.
I'm normally not a big fan of insta loves but what sets Love Hurts apart from others is this quote "We didn’t give our foundation time to get strong enough to handle issues that arise in relationships." I loved the understanding why trust in a love that happens so fast could quickly become rocky.

Thetta James has instantly hooked me with her sensational debut, the first in the Pure Sin Trilogy. I easily connected with her wonderfully written characters in the first few pages. Love Hurts captures everything that I love in a book. Insanely hot sexual chemistry, the humour found in the friendship between the ladies, real relationship development between the main characters, a suspenseful plot that pulls you right in and all of the emotions that go hand in hand with love. I absolutely recommend that you read this book and I am sure that you will fall in love with Crystal and Jackson as much as I have.

Each book in this series can be read as a standalone. Thetta James is not new to the romance book world community but is a debut author.

Our heroine, Crystal Stephens is beautiful, smart, funny, sassy, and owns and runs her L.A. based magazine, All Things L.A.. She’s fresh out of a relationship that ended on good terms and has been craving a darker, more satisfying kind of pleasure in her personal life. That’s where Pure Sin comes in. The newest hottest sex club in downtown Santa Monica.
One night while at the gym, Crystal meets Jackson Barnes. He is the total package and is a hot as hell detective in Santa Monica. He’s formally from Chicago but moved to LA after a series of unfortunate events..
They agree to meet up at Pure Sin and get to know each other more. She of course will be accompanied by her “sisters for life”, Chassity and April. They met back in college and have been inseparable since.
There are a mixed bag of supporting characters that make this story so great and worth reading. There’s Jeffrey, Crystal’s best friend and ex lover. He’s a sweetheart. Their relationship is very special to the both of them. Then there’s Stephanie, Crystal’s executive Assistant. Charlene, the temp and Mina the cringe-worthy psychopath wreaking havoc on Crystal and Jackson’s relationship. I mean really, the author hit the motherload when she wrote that sick twist’s character. Man, I loved hating her. She’s just so deranged. Sorry…. No spoilers.
The author delivers a trifecta with Love Hurts. It’s jam packed with;
~great characters,
~spine tingling suspense and
~hot as hell, curl your toes, get me a cold drink and/or shower sexytime.
I love bits of comedy in my romances, even the dark ones. Ms. James has a flair for comedy I’ll tell you that. Some of my favorite parts of this story were the one-liners delivered by Chassity and April and involved tapping an ass and another involving beating your ass and lastly one involved a finger. I’m still giggling thinking about those backside/frontside/finger one-liners.
One of my other favorite parts in the story was how Crystal and Jackson met. I was laughing out loud and you will too. Honestly, it’s your worst nightmare of meeting someone at the gym.
So much of what happens in this story made me very happy with this book. There is humor, instant chemistry, a psycho suspense element, undercover aspect and a lost partner and a juicy twist. Throw in hot nasty sexytime and ching ching ching….. We have the makings of an AMAZING story and that’s exactly what the author delivered. She was made for story telling and I couldn’t be more happy for her.
Although I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book, I also pre-ordered my own copy.

Love Hurts. Thetta you must feel proud of this book because it is absolutely amazing. Before anything else while I was reading this, along in my head I heard your voice reading this to me, no lie! It was your voice saying those words as I was reading your story and I could picture you there reading it.
Anyway, I loved Crystal and her roommates so much. What a great group of woman to have as friends, to have your back, to be there through thick and thin. Chas was a bada$$, always ready to defend her friend, and April was the sensible, sensitive, emotional woman I think out of all of them.
Jackson, where are those men these days ladies? He is a dream come true. The attraction between him and Crystal was unbelievable. She was hot for him and vice versa from the start and you couldn’t deny the chemistry was there. Until trouble came knocking. Mina.

Stop the press! There is a new author in town! Thetta James has written a phenomenal debut book.
Love Hurts immediately gripped me and I felt so comfortable with Ms James’ writing style. Insta-love casts a spell on Crystal and Jackson and their journey has all the feels. I love it when characters invade my mind when real life interrupts my reading time, and Crystal and Jackson were never far from my thoughts. Relatable, likeable with normal human faults, they are both memorable and together, captivating. Their connection is intense and beautifully steamy.
I particularly loved the suspense that was perfectly weaved throughout. Events that provoke strong emotions, combined with clever storytelling, this book had me gasp out loud and mirror the feelings that the characters were experiencing.

Wow! What a debut! Thetta James has captured my attention with Love Hurts! You definitely need to buckle up because the pages were lit up by Jackson and Crystal! Erotic and sensual! Add in the suspense and chaos and you’ve got the perfect ingredients for a fantastic book! Heartfelt words of wisdom and explosive chemistry made for an exciting story! Thetta James has knocked it out of the park with Love Hurts.This book had mystery, intrigue, and just the right amount of drama. The chemistry between Crystal and Jackson was downright explosive. And her friends and his help round out a great cast of characters. From looking at the cover I was expecting a nice sweet love story but I got so much more. The writing hooks you from the start and keeps you enthralled until the last word. I love when a book surprises me by giving more than I bargained for.
This may be Thetta James' first book but you couldn't tell from the writing. This woman knows how to tell a story and will be taking the writing world by storm. Love Hurts is definitely one of my top reads of 2020. #2020TopRead

I couldn't begin to relay how happy I am for deciding to read a book. This read was truly awe inspiring. Love Hurts is Thetta James' debut romance. This definitely didn't read like a debut novel because it went above & beyond.
Crystal is a strong, independent woman as well as very successful. She craves something she just isn't getting from her current relationship. This leads her to meeting Jackson, a detective who is working undercover in a club called Pure Sin. This is a place I would love to visit.
This book was magnetic. From the first page, I felt drawn in and didn't want to put it down. I also felt so many different emotions. That is one thing I always hope to find in books because I have trouble allowing myself to feel them in real life. Love Hurts had me feeling everything from being really hot under the collar to wanting to cry and definitely included anger. I was thoroughly impressed, astonished and grateful for every minute spent experiencing this romance. I can’t wait to dive into the next book in this series.

Maybe Insta-love is real
This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster! I didn't even finish the book before I had to message Thetta and apologize to get for calling her bad names as I cried and swore and felt ALL the emotions.
But now that I am finished, just WOW! First Thetta James book will most definitely NOT be my last! The girl knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat. And the steamy scenes???? Careful, because your Kindle might overheat!
Crystal and Jackson's story had a lot going on, but Thetta did such an amazing job at keeping it all perfectly tied together AND set us up wonderfully for what I am sure is going to be another hit with the next book in this series.

Crystal and Jackson's story had a lot going on, but Thetta did such an amazing job at keeping it all perfectly tied together AND set us up wonderfully for what I am sure is going to be another hit with the next book in this series.

This book captivated me from the very first few paragraphs. I couldn’t put it down. The way the author spends time to help us get to know and fall in love with each of the characters, is endearing. This book is wonderfully SPICY, let me tell you! But with that is beautiful story of enduring love, friendship and fatal attractions. Im excited to read more from this author, this is the best book I’ve read in a while and breath of fresh air.

Girllll, u have found ur calling. For a first time author, u got it going on.
The plot had me wanting more right from the beginning. I wanted so much more, I hated for it end. A few misspellings, but a great read over all. A must read.. Can't wait for the next one.. Applauding u for ur greatness..

I honestly can't believe this book is by a first time author. This book takes you through a gamut of emotions. You will feel love, hate, happiness, arousal, amusement and most definitely be completely enthralled with wondering what's going to happen next. Each page gives you something new. Crystal and Jackson have such an intense chemistry from the beginning.

Standing ovation for Love Hurts
Not only was I in great anticipation for this book, I didn’t expect to be captivated right after the first few sentences. Jackson and Crystal’s larger than life characters grabbed me and didn’t let me go. They’re successful, driven and yet grounded; stubborn, passionate and sexy as hell. The story’s are well thought out and I hated to get to the end. I loved it, 2 thumbs up and I’m ready for April and Javier journey. Thetta, you did that!

This is my first time reading a book in the Erotic Suspense genre. To be honest, I was kind of curious about this book and I was wondering what made it an Erotic Suspense. Also, I was kind of unsure about buying the book as I never read such things but when I received this book as a gift I decided I would try it.
It didn’t take me long to fall in love with Thetta James’s characters. Crystal and Jackson have a connection like none I have ever read about. It feels like they are “one person,” which is an amazing thing to have with someone. They feel it right away but both of them have a hard time admitting it. Crystal is a successful owner of a magazine All Things L.A. while Jackson is a detective. And I love that they are established in the work world but as always, true love, the kind that takes you whole and makes you so happy that you can’t imagine your life without that person, happened so unexpected for them that it overpowered them.
As I read their story, I was thinking about how real all this felt. I want to say that for a debut novel, Thetta James has done an extraordinary job with this book. I felt every single emotion. I was ready to run and yell at Jackson for doing what he did to Crystal at one point. There is no way that you can do something so wrong to a person you love!!!! Trust me, this book had me vibrating with every emotion possible. But most of all, I desperately wanted a happy ending for them both.
Honestly, this book brought to light some of my own experiences in love and the advice that April and Chassity give Crystal throughout the book have resonated with me so much. When you find a book that resonates and resembles what you have gone through in your life it is a book that you find an instant connection with. Again, the joy and the hope and the happiness I felt reading the book while witnessing the kind of love that Crystal and Jackson share brought me so many smiles. I absolutely love the book!!!! I love the way that despite everything that Jackson did, he wouldn’t let Crystal out of his sight. He wanted to make everything right between them and that is something I respect. A man who accepts his wrong and tries his hardest to fix everything is someone worthy of respect.
Thetta James, KEEP WRITING!! If you never read another book in your life, read LOVE HURTS: PURE SIN TRILOGY and trust me, you won’t regret giving this “first time author” a chance. Ms. James is a professional writer who tugged at the heartstrings just the right way. And I am proud of her for being brave enough to publish her first book. I will definitely continue reading the rest of the series and I will get paperbacks just so I can start my “Thetta James collection.”

I just loved Crystal and Jackson! This book was not just a page turner, but it was filled with a lot of suspense not knowing what would happen next. Crystal is very independent owning her own magazine. It’s going really well. She lives with her two best friends. All three are like peas in a pod, and they always have each other’s backs. The only issue in life is that she’s dating an ordinary guy, Jeffry. He’s just a plain Jane. She wants something more adventurous. Wait til you see when they break up what happens and what Jeffry tells her! That was a shocker. Jackson is on a mission to find out who killed his partner. He is on an undercover mission, looking into the Pure Sin night club. Just wait til you find out for what. Jackson is also not looking for a relationship after his last one went a little crazy. He will also find out how crazy she is in due time. You don’t want to miss that. Problem is she’s still out there and will be wreaking havoc for Jackson and Crystal. When these two meet, sparks fly right away. The chemistry is electric and off the charts. As they get to know each other, it’s obvious Jackson’s no relationship rule is going to fly out the window. When several unexpected scary events happen, Jackson wants to do everything in his power to keep Crystal safe. What Crystal doesn’t know is that it’s a blast from Jackson’s past causing chaos. When a certain employee of Crystal’s turns out to be someone she’s not, Jackson flips and his relationship with Crystal may be in jeopardy. First book written and first read by Thetta James, she delivers a five star read.
This book is brilliant, everything any book lover needs, romance, kinky sex, pure sin!, corruption, psycho stalker, violence, laughs, tears and an epic twisted plot!.
The strong insta-love between Jackson & Crystal only grew stronger, the friendship between crystal and her best friends was so real, I found myself laughing and crying right beside them. But wait this storyline is so much more than love & friendship, add in a crazy one night stand gone sour and in comes Mina, someone you will develop a hate, love and loathe relationship for, then we get police corruption sounds a lot but it all works seamlessly this authors writing skills will pull on all of your emotions throughout this book and leave your head spinning.
Love Hurts grips you and draws you in from the prologue and keeps you hooked until the very last word.
The storyline is unique, flows and a real page turner. Highly recommended read
Cannot wait to read the next book in this outstanding trilogy.

Hot romance and twisty suspense, makes this one perfect read!
This book popped up in a reading group I am in and I decided to give it a try. And I am so happy I did! This hit all the emotions, gave me the heat of a great romance and the thrill of a suspense. . . All with a happy ending!
I dont want to give too much away, because being book reading is what makes the book even better, but let me tell you these 2 main characters Crystal and Jackson are relatable and feel like real people you know. Crystal is a strong female and completely confident in who she is and what she wants. Jackson is a detective with past that brings mystery and heartache. Love Hurts is the first book in the Pure Sin Trilogy by Thetta James. It is her debut book. And what a debut! I was hooked at the very beginning. I connected with the characters immediately. Crystal and Jackson are instantly attracted to one another. They certainly have chemistry. I thought the characters were well-developed. I liked how the secondary characters were part of the story rather than added as a backdrop.
There is suspense that is well-paced throughout the book. Thetta James' writing style enhances the story. I was engrossed in the book and am looking forward to reading the next installment to the trilogy. Kudos to Thetta James!

Why did I wait so long to read this?! This book was fantastic! The prologue itself had me hooked and invested in knowing these characters and oh boy was it an amazing ride. Crystal and Jackson are one hot and steamy couple but the love they have for one another poured off the pages. I won’t lie, I was a nervous wreck anytime Mina popped up. She was a raving lunatic! I did NOT see that little twist coming, though. Holy cow! This was my first book by this author and I promise you, it won’t be my last. I cannot wait to dive into the second book.
