Don't be misled by the cracky premise and summary. This book is an incredibly poignant and suspenseful survival novel set in a post-apocalyptic world, where humans are constantly at risk from being infected by the mutated animal & plant species of the world and losing their consciousness/will. In this new society, humans must venture out from the base to gather resources, but every time they do, they risk attacks by monstrous mutated creatures and infection. Anyone who has been injured in the field and infected is subject to execution by the Judges, who have absolute authority over life and death.
The story follows a little mushroom, who gains human-like sentience after devouring a dying soldier. His goal is to infiltrate the human base in order to retrieve his spore, which had been taken from him for experimental purposes. In the process, he meets the most-feared and hated Judge on the base, who has the highest kill count and accuracy, and they develop an unlikely bond.
I love the little mushroom as a POV character, because of the alien way he sees the human world and the process of him learning about himself and his emotions. I love how the book explores the concept of the greater good, and the price one has to pay to achieve it. It really digs deep into the philosophy of humanity - is it worth it to survive as a species, if we lose all the good that made us human to begin with?
This is one of my top cnovels I've read in a long time, and I'd highly recommend this to anyone who's interested in post-apocalyptic survival as a genre.

Whoah whoah *running around screaming*
Im glad I gave this novel a second chance, if not I definitely missing out this wonderful journey of a little mushroom.
It has the chaotic-thrilling post apocalyptic world where human race was in the brim of extinction, which keeps me on the edge. And the gentle romance gave me so much feeling arghhh....
I like An zhe, he's naive but not that stupidly naive kind that gave troubles to everyone around him. He's pure and innocent and yet he's a very determined character.
In the battle between human and monster, An Zhe set out a journey to take back his spore from human world.

LITTLE MUSHROOM by Yi Shi Si Zhou
Oh boy. What did I just read? A mushroom in love? No, not really.
This book was voted the most popular danmei novel of 2020. It was in my tbr for a long time, but I was turned away by the blurb. My advice: don’t read the blurb. It was the most misleading blurb ever. It sounds like a fluffy sweet book about a mushroom looking for its spore and stumbling into love. But nothing could be further from the truth. This book is brutal. Destructive. Unrelentingly cruel. It’s about humankind’s losing fight for survival at the end of the world. In other words, this is the kind of scifi romance I always dream to read - a hopeless world where love blooms.
So, what’s a little mushroom got to do with it? Everything. I can’t go in details without leaving spoilers, but imagine this world where animals and plants mutate, under the effect of radioactive exposure. Little Mushroom could take the human form and sentience of a dying man whose body it consumed. It went to the Citadel, one of the last human bastion, to look for it lost pore. There it met The Judge, a cold-blood executioner, who could detect mutants (or gene-infected, as the book calls) and killed them on the spot. Somehow it avoided detection and entered the Citadel. Then began the most bizarre and extraordinary love story I’ve ever read. A love story at the end of civilization, when the world was falling apart…
I was blown away by this novel. It’s full of ideas and plot twists you never saw coming. I suspect some of the scientific aspects of the book are bullshits, but honestly I don’t care. I haven’t had so much fun reading a scifi book in a long, long time.
Note: I read a translation of this book in my own language (Vietnamese), but I learn that there is an official English translation published in the US by Peach Flower House in early 2022. The first volume is called Little Mushroom: Judgment Day.

Read if you like -> pain, a whole shit bucket load of angst that hits you out of nowhere, and having your heart broken apart and messily fixed again.
Random Thoughts/Feelings:
¬ It was beautiful, truly one of the best books I've read in awhile. This might be hovering near the title of the best danmei I've read since MDZS. The last few extras were so soft and precious, my heart slowly recovering from this sob-wracking story of a little mushroom on a mission to bring back his spore.
¬ “He is just…a little mushroom.” To THINK this sentence could make me suffer and cry like nothing before. WHY ALL THIS PAINN.?
¬ Every scene between Lu Feng and An Zhe was literally the cutest things ever.
¬ There are really melancholy undertones to the book, and at time it can can get super heart-wrecking, especially with people dying left and right. My heart feels heavy. ಥ_ಥ
¬ The emotional rollercoaster this takes you on is unreal. Seriously everything is wonderful and adorable and the next the sky is exploding. Can they please catch a break? HUH. Is that so hard to ask for.
¬ The synopsis is so vague and honestly sounded too weird for me to bother reading, but HOLY SMOKES am I so glad I did. Considering I've been neglecting my sleep and instead reading this for 8 hours straight and could not stop for the life of me.
¬ This is extraordinary, absolutely thrilling. The writing and descriptions had me gripped from the beginning.
¬ Interestingly, there is quite some physics (worst subject ever) in this, which was a great touch, if you're smart enough to understand jacksh*t about frequencies and magnetic fields.
¬ Its about the human desire to continue living, however helpless and hopeless everything is. The fear of realizing some things are out of our understanding and we really can't do anything about it, except stubbornly refuse to give up.
¬ I still can't believe I cried because of a mushroom. Again, MAJOR ANGST WARNING.

It's basically post-apocalypse. Mutated insects, infected humans (and a very specific conscientious walking mushroom). They're growing embryos to maintain the population, they're stuck behind huge walls from the terrifying creatures of the wild Abyss. Nowhere is safe. Seriously reading about it was frightening. Real goose-bump raising material. Super good shit 👌.

Characters:
An Zhe: AHHH I LOVE HIMM. He's so soft and delicate and I just want to wrap him up in the fluffiest blanket, and hug him tight. His innocent and curious outlook towards things of the human world was so endearing, and him accepting and enduring with the cruel things happening in the human world, him learning to become a "better" human, all for his little spore. UGH SO CUTE. He's been human for barely a month, struggling to understand their thoughts and emotions, with his limited knowledge of this complex world. In this world he meets the Judge, who almost kills him at first sight, and as the story progresses, they repeatedly meet at different circumstances, unexpectedly forming a bond of sorts that An Zhe doesn't really understand. All he knows is that Lu Feng is a good person. Together, they face this messed up world, and hopefully for the rest of their lives as well.
Lu Feng: the Judge, the Colonel, the supposed Bad Guy. He goes around shooting people (who are rightfully infected), and your first impression of him isn't really the best but then you realize JUST HOW MUCH YOU LOVE HIM. Him constantly teasing AZ was perfection and the light in all the darkness that was this book. He distances himself from everyone, hiding behind a mask of indifference, unfeeling to the death and suffering surrounding him. We have no idea what's going on inside his head, whether he feels anything, and whether he'll ever go mad from all the lives he's taken. However, as An Zhe gets closer to him, we realize how selfless he is, constantly sacrificing himself for the sake of humanity, never scared of facing death. And soon he comes to care for this little heterogenous, something impossible for a judge, tasked with ridding the human world of anything that isn't human. But like An Zhe said, he really is a good person.

This was incredible! Don't be fooled by the summary because this is a story about a dystopian future where a mushroom gains awareness and transforms into a human and he's able to enter a human base without much trouble in a world full of monsters. Seriously, the world building, characters, plot and pacing were done perfectly here and I loved the build up of the romance between An Zhe and Lu Feng as they fought to stay alive. It was so satisfying to read this and it's one of my favourite books this year.
I don't think there were any plot holes and the author did an amazing job balancing all the different elements in this story. I'm really excited to read more of her works in the future!

IM SCREAMING NOT SO GENTLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
Listen, this novel has completely consumed my mind i could not think about anything else for hours until i was done i resented every real life activities that took me away from reading this book I'm a joke to myself.
You know who ISN'T a joke though???? OUR LITTLE MUSHROOM 😭😭😭😭😭😭
World building wise world is very fascinating though delivered somewhat clunkily at the beginning but i got into it right away, it kinda reminds me of Adrian Tchaikovsky's level of world building, specifically I'm thinking of children of time.

Me gustó, no me encantó no por qué la historia no sea buena si no por qué es bastante deprimente y las novelas así me cuestan un poco más de leer tb esta el hecho de que la parte de física no entendía nada e iba perdida tal vez si me lo vuelvo a leer me gusta mucho más al entender ya la historia. Tendré que comprobarlo.
El mundo tiene muy buena base, creo que es de las novelas mejores estructuradas que he visto.
Lo mismo con los personajes bien hechos e interesantes.

Hay tantas cosas que decir pero primero que nada el mundo en que se desarrolla todo uff es increíble es la primera vez que leo algo así por lo que no sabía que me encontraría pero estoy satisfecha me gusto muchísimo, la verdad es que si llego a darme un poco de miedo en ciertas partes por lo mal que iba la situación y el ver tanta gente muriendo en un instante me dejó muy sorprendida.
Por otra parte están Lu Feng y An Zhe, no tengo palabras su dinámica me encanto desde el minuto uno son muy lindos, el desarrollo de su relación me gusto mucho siento que fluyó muy natural y sin darse cuenta ellos ya estaban bien enamorados el uno del otro, por ultimo Lu Feng quien me enamoro completamente ese hombre es increíble y su desarrollo me gusto mucho

I'm a sucker for a good post-apocalyptic, sci-fi setting. A lot of the plot was just going to a location and then a character giving an exposition dump, but it was consistently interesting. I love mutation-based sci-fi worlds, and this didn’t disappoint. There were a few parts that irked me, but I found this to be solid overall so I don’t feel the need to get into it. A few parts were even quite touching. This is neither my favorite danmei nor my favorite post-apocalyptic novel, but I found it to be a pretty satisfying combination of those two things.

Me gustó muchísimo! creo que plantea muchas cosas muy interesantes sobre la crisis climática, es full lo que llaman cli fi (a mi no me gustan los subgéneros de los subgéneros de los subgéneros pero ok). An Zhe y Lu Feng me parecen muy muy interesantes.

Agridulce y tierna pero con final feliz.
No es spoiler, lo describe la misma sinopsis.
Tiene muchos términos de física y biologia, pero no te preocupes si no conoces nada relacionado con estas materias, la historia es tan fascinante que te atrapará al instante.

En un mundo de distopía, en donde la tierra puede llegar a su final en cualquier momento, nos encontramos con An Ze, un hongo que sale de su cueva en busca de su espora perdida. Y luego tenemos al frio e insensible coronel Lu, el juez que asesina a cualquier especie que no sea humana.
Ambos por razones apocalípticas cruzaran sus caminos muchas veces pero no por casualidad, si no que el destino tendrá preparado para ellos una misión.
An Ze es el hongito mas tierno, adorable y bello; el coronel Lu es lo más real que he leido en el genero danmei. Ninguna de sus acciones son justificadas, por lo que a la vez lo he amado y no he podido odiar.

พล็อตแนว sci-fi หลังโลกอารยธรรมล่มสลาย แซมด้วยความรักระหว่างมนุษย์และเห็ดกลายพันธ์ุ
ในส่วนของ Sci-fi เราไม่ค่อยประทับใจเท่าไหร่ จะเอาตื่นเต้นมันก็กระชับรวบรัดเกินไป มีบ้าง แต่ไม่ได้บิลด์ความตื่นเต้นได้ขนาดนั้น ถ้าจะเอาความลุ่มลึกสอดแทรกปรัชญา ก็เหมือนฟังอาจารย์ขึ้น bullet points ให้อ่านหัวข้อ แต่ไม่ได้กล่าวในรายละเอียด น่าเสียดายเหมือนกัน เราชอบเรื่องแนวคิดระบบยุติธรรมในเรื่องที่ขัดแย้งกับโลกปัจจุบัน ส่วนต้นเหตุการล่มสลลายและทางออกของมหันตภัย ก็ดูจะไม่ค่อยสอดคล้อง กับอธิบายยังไม่สมเหตุสมผล มีแตะๆ quantum physic กับ string theory แต่ก็ดูไม่ได้รับกับทางออกที่ค้นพบเท่าไหร่ จบแล้วสรุปได้ว่า สนามแม่เหล็กเทียมชนะทุกสิ่ง โดยรวมคือ ยังสร้างโลกกับกฎเกณฑ์ของโลกใหม่ที่ทำให้เราเชื่อและอินไม่ได้
ส่วนความรัก คงเป็นเพราะเนื้อเรื่องดำเนินจาก pov ของเจ้าเห็ดน้อยเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ซึ่งเหมือนเป็นคนนอกมองเข้าไป ทำให้ไม่ค่อยอิน กับเวลาร่วมกันก็ไม่ได้มีเยอะ เลยไม่ได้ซาบซึ้งไปกับเห็ดและผู้พิพากษาของเขาเท่าไหร่
ไม่รู้ว่าเราคาดหวังมากไปรึปล่าว อ่านจบแล้วแอบผิดหวังนิดหน่อยค่ะ
ในส่วนของ Sci-fi เราไม่ค่อยประทับใจเท่าไหร่ จะเอาตื่นเต้นมันก็กระชับรวบรัดเกินไป มีบ้าง แต่ไม่ได้บิลด์ความตื่นเต้นได้ขนาดนั้น ถ้าจะเอาความลุ่มลึกสอดแทรกปรัชญา ก็เหมือนฟังอาจารย์ขึ้น bullet points ให้อ่านหัวข้อ แต่ไม่ได้กล่าวในรายละเอียด น่าเสียดายเหมือนกัน เราชอบเรื่องแนวคิดระบบยุติธรรมในเรื่องที่ขัดแย้งกับโลกปัจจุบัน ส่วนต้นเหตุการล่มสลลายและทางออกของมหันตภัย ก็ดูจะไม่ค่อยสอดคล้อง กับอธิบายยังไม่สมเหตุสมผล มีแตะๆ quantum physic กับ string theory แต่ก็ดูไม่ได้รับกับทางออกที่ค้นพบเท่าไหร่ จบแล้วสรุปได้ว่า สนามแม่เหล็กเทียมชนะทุกสิ่ง โดยรวมคือ ยังสร้างโลกกับกฎเกณฑ์ของโลกใหม่ที่ทำให้เราเชื่อและอินไม่ได้
ส่วนความรัก คงเป็นเพราะเนื้อเรื่องดำเนินจาก pov ของเจ้าเห็ดน้อยเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ซึ่งเหมือนเป็นคนนอกมองเข้าไป ทำให้ไม่ค่อยอิน กับเวลาร่วมกันก็ไม่ได้มีเยอะ เลยไม่ได้ซาบซึ้งไปกับเห็ดและผู้พิพากษาของเขาเท่าไหร่
ไม่รู้ว่าเราคาดหวังมากไปรึปล่าว อ่านจบแล้วแอบผิดหวังนิดหน่อยค่ะ

Lúc đọc tên truyện tui tưởng ngọt sủng điềm văn gì chứ, ai dè sai bét 😀 Người bị nhiễm gen có thể không có biểu hiện gì nhưng trong thời gian ngắn sẽ mất lý trí mà tàn sát đồng loại của mình, nên Lục Phong người được ủy thác quan sát những dấu hiệu bất thường có quyền bắn chết bất kỳ ai lập tức, và dĩ nhiên không ai có thể kiểm chứng anh giết đúng hay sai, vì thà giết nhầm còn hơn bỏ sót. Điều đó biến Lục Phong thành kẻ cô độc, bị nhiều người thù hận vì giết người thân của mình. Thường tui rất ngán kiểu thụ ngốc bạch ngọt nhưng bé An Chiết ciu quá đáng luôn 🥺🥺 ẻm ngơ ngơ mà lại rất dũng cảm lên đường bước vào thế giới mình không biết, mang lại cảm giác yên tĩnh nhìn cảnh thế giới lụi tàn.
Bạn edit siêu cưng, kiểu "ò" thay cho "ừ", "giũa cái nết", "cái ngữ ấy"...🤣 nghe đúng kiểu nũng nịu của bé nấm không hiểu thế giới con người í 🍄 Góc nhìn từ An Chiết rất cute thú dị, tui hơi tiếc là khai thác nhân vật Lục Phong chưa sâu, dù câu chuyện của Thượng tá Lục là mấu chốt làm tui xúc động nhất truyện luôn (tui không hay xúc động khi đọc truyện đâu fyi) 🤧 Điểm trừ nữa là rất nhiều kiến thức vật lý gần cuối truyện trời ơi =)) tác giả công phu thật sự, bạn edit cũng chú thích kỹ càng nữa, nhưng không hiểu mấy cái vật lý đó cũng không ảnh hưởng nội dung nha mng =))

Reading Little Mushroom reminded me so much of reading Sha Po Lang and Can Ci Pin by Priest, since these novels required brain cells because of the complexity. This novel is a heavy Sci-Fi novel with a lot of science terms and it made me feel so dumb, but it's great! This has an apocalypse setting with mutated creatures rather than zombies. Humanity was about to go extinct and the desperation to survive is quite palpable throughout the novel. The story is heavy and emotional. I felt hopeless myself at one point, thinking how can they survive this world.
An Zhe (MC) is a naïve, pure and innocent little mushroom turned into human and risk his little life to retrieve his spore while Lu Feng (ML) is a cold, merciless and ruthless judge who executed people who's suspected of being infected/mutated. They have opposite personalities but they do have something in common, their determination and firm conviction. When they decided that they need to do something, no one can shake their principle, both as a human and as a mushroom. Their relationship also progressed so naturally. They both experienced tragic things and if I wasn't informed beforehand that this novel is HE, I would have cried even harder. Knowing that this is HE was the only thing that comforted me in the middle of reading the desperation to survive.
This is indeed a wonderful novel. I'm new to apocalyptic setting so I'm not quite used to reading this, but this is really great. Now I understand how a lot of people really loved this. Because I, too, would recommend this for everyone!

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Little Mushroom is a sorrowful but sweet story about what makes us human. It's about the strength of human will and our need to understand the world even in the face of disaster.
While showing human kind's daily lives and survival efforts through the eyes of a mushroom, the novel conveys that little acts of kindness go a long way, that kindness itself is a subjective concept, and that our destiny is often defined by the smallest decisions and - supposedly - random encounters.
I want to keep this review spoiler-free so I won't discuss the reasons behind the apocalypse in the story, but I really enjoyed the author's thinking, especially by the end.
And for last but not least: the protagonist, An Zhe, is absolutely adorable. I don't think I'll ever look at mushrooms the same way. Please be happy my smol child.

เป็นนิยาย Sci-Fi Fantasy ที่เขียนพล๊อตได้สนุก ครีเอตตัวละครและฉากต่างๆเหมือนได้ดูหนังฮอลลีวูดฟอร์มยักษ์ดีๆ เลยค่ะ สมกับที่ได้รางวัล ตอนแรกอ่านชื่อเรื่อง เจ้าเห็ดน้อย แล้วเกือบผ่านเพราะชื่อดูเบาแต่พอได้อ่านแล้วเนื้อเรื่องไม่เบาเลย ใครที่ไม��ชอบแนวสัตว์ประหลาด มนุษย์กลายพันธุ์ การฆ่าแบบนองเลือด อาจจะต้องระวังแต่ก็ลองอ่านได้เพราะถึงแม้เรื่องจะดูหนัก แต่นายเอกเห็ดน้อยอันเจ๋อของเรามันนุ่มนิ่ม นุบนิบ น่าเอ็นดูมากเลยค่ะ

Человечество снова на грани вымирания, исчезновение магнитного поля привело к жутким мутациям и генным изменениям. Животные и растения начали сливаться в новые виды, ранее невозможные. И человек сошел с вершины пищевой цепочки, став желанной пищей для монстров, созданных по новым законам природы. Любой укус, даже размером с игольное ушко, теперь может стать причиной заражения и трансформации человека в монстра.
И даже в этом необъяснимом наукой мире появилось исключение - маленький грибочек, который обрел сознание и впитал гены умирающего рядом с ним человека, чтобы обрести тело и отправиться к людям.
Научная фантастика с элементами постапокалиптики - не тот жанр, к которому я тянусь с большим удовольствием, потому что редко попадаются какие-то интересные интерпретации сюжета нового мира, да и слишком много научных разговоров меня утомляют. Но "Маленький гриб" стал удивительным случаем. С каким же диким интересом я разбиралась в этом мире вместе с Ань Чжэ, который хоть и обрел воспоминания умирающего человека, но все же не понимает столь многих особенностей людей. Почему они, зная, что находятся в меньшинстве, продолжают бороться за выживание, почему пытаются найти ответы и спастись? Разве их род является самым важным?
Именно из-за Ань Чжэ и его некой отстраненности эта новелла так отличается от всего, что я привыкла видеть раньше. Потому что она рассказана не от лица человека, загнанного в угол, а от лица маленького гриба, у которого изначально была всего лишь одна цель - найти свою потерянную спору, вернуться в пещеру Бездны и спокойно существовать там дальше. Ань Чжэ не понимал людей, но попав к ним и став частью их маленького общества неожиданно для себя узнал об их добре и любви к жизни.
Да, люди все еще люди, какими мы привыкли их видеть: порой эгоистичные, праведные, жестокие, а также искренние, честные и самоотверженные. И Ань Чжэ все равно к ним притягивает.
"Люди есть люди", - подумал он. Он знал, что на базе нет лекарств и что это конец человечества. Однако они поистине бессмертны."
А вот со стороны людей мы в кой-то веки не в отряде протестующих режиму, а наоборот. Лу Фэн - полковник и верховный Судья с правом убивать на месте всех людей, которые могут быть заражены. Выдавая человеку разрешение на мгновенную казнь, нужно быть готовым к последствиям. Как часто судьи убивают действительно здоровых людей? И стоит ли этот маленький шанс риска, если на кону стоит выживание всего человечества? Лу Фэн холоден и тверд в своих убеждениях, даже если одна половина населения его до ужаса боится, а другая люто ненавидит. Но "человеческие интересы при выше всего", даже когда Лу Фэн сталкивается с подозрительным Ань Чжэ.
"Судья - это Бог, - Босс Шоу ухмыльнулся. - Жаль, что Бог сходит с ума..."
От части эту новеллу можно описать как игру/сериал Last of Us от лица гриба, со всеми ужасами заражения, с этим человеческим отчаянием и невозможности увидеть просвет. Но все таки эта история еще и о принятии изменений, об адаптации, о том, что может быть на самом деле человеческие интересы не при выше всего.
В моменте чтения я часто думала, чем же может закончиться эта новелла. Довольно логичным, но непривычным для жанра крахом всего человечества? Или же волшебным спасением и началом беспечной жизни без страха? Автор в конце вылила чуть больше научных теорий и объяснений, чем обычно, и я, если честно, просто мысленно кивала и принимала это как должное. Все-таки не ученый, спорить с вероятностью подобных исходов мне не по силам. Но никаких "удобных" для простоты сюжета поворотов не было, как и притянутых за ушу деталей.
Несмотря на жанр, эта история для меня стала невероятно уютной и успокаивающей, при этом оторваться от нее просто невозможно, потому что каждую страницу что-то да происходит. В какой-то степени это found family, где найденной семьей для маленького гриба оказалось все человечество.
Книга получает 10/10 и рекомендацию для всех.

Me looking at the description: haha silly little bl, no way the main character is a mushroom!
Me after reading: this is a profound piece of literary fiction.
But no fr I did not expect it to delve into such deep topics?!
Class inequality, police brutality, talk about reproductive rights, what it means to be human, where the line blurs between control and choosing the lesser evil, should the value of life be measured by what you can offer to the society... just to name the few.
"I often find myself perplexed," she said, caressing Lily's hair softly. "We resist monsters and hybrids, reject foreign genes corrupting human DNA, to preserve our unique human will and avoid being ruled by our primal instincts...Yet, in achieving this goal, everything we do contradicts the very essence of humanity. And the collective we form - all it does, acquiring resources, strengthening itself, reproducing - merely displays the nature of beasts. In reality, there's no significant difference between humans and the monsters outside; it's just that our adaptable minds deceive ourselves into assigning meaning to our actions. Humans are just another ordinary species, born like all life, and soon to perish like all life."

As much as I'm not a big sci fi enthusiast, this one just sucked me in, to the point of reading over 800 pages in two days!

เดิมทีเล่มนี้นอกสายตาเรามาก แต่เห็นกระแสรีวิวฉบับภาษาอังกฤษและจีนดีมากเลยหยิบมาลอง ชอบมากกก เป็นแนวDystopia, Scifi ในยุคอนาคต 2154 หลังจากเกิดสภาวะสนามแม่เหล็กโลกหายไปในปี 2030 ตามมาด้วยการกลายพันธุ์ของสิ่งมีชีวิตที่ปนเปื้อนหรือติดต่อข้าม species กันง่ายขึ้นเรื่อยๆตามเวลาที่ผ่านไป มนุษย์ที่ติดเชื้อจากสัตว์มักจะสูญสิ้นสติสัมปชัญญะและกระหายเลือด มนุษย์ที่เหลือรอดจึงพยายามรักษายีนยิ่งชีพ ใครที่ติดเชื้อแม้จะไม่แสดงอาการก็ยังคงถูกสังหารด้วยเจ้าหน้าที่ฝ่ายศาลพิจารณาคดีซึ่งมีผู้พิพากษาเป็นผู้มีอำนาจเด็ดขาดสูงสุด ฆ่าผิดคนดีกว่าปล่อยผิดคนเพราะเคยเกิดคดีมนุษย์กลายพันธุ์แพร่เชื้อจนเกิดการสังหารหมู่ในฐานทัพทางเหนือและการล่มสลายของฐานทัพเวอร์จิเนีย ทั้งที่เรื่องนี้มีความเป็นวิทยาศาสตร์เชิงฟิสิกส์และชีวภาพค่อนข้างเยอะ แต่เรารู้สึกว่าพล็อตหลักเค้าลึกซึ้งกว่านั้น ให้ความสุนทรีย์ของดนตรี ศิลปะและวรรณกรรม รวมถึงการจดบันทึกประวัติศาสตร์ท่ามกลางความหดหู่สิ้นหวัง แสดงให้เห็นถึงการแบ่งแยกชนชั้นวรรณะด้วยเพียงความสามารถ กดขี่สิทธิเสรีภาพผู้หญิงให้เพียงทำหน้าที่อุ้มบุญผลิตประชากรรุ่นใหม่ทดแทนปรพชากรเดิมที่ลดจำนวนลงเรื่อยๆ

ดราม่าฝ่ายพระเอกไม่ต่างจากที่คาดไว้ว่าต้องโดยฝ่ายต่อต้านโจมตี ท้ายสุดแล้วพระเอกก็หนีรอดมาได้เพราะรูปปั้นหุ่นเสมือนและเพื่อนทหารรับจ้างที่เคยออกรบด้วยกัน ช่วงท้ายก็จะออกแนวสละชีพเพื่อสันติภาพของน้องเห็ดที่นำไปสู่การอยู่ร่วมกันของการกลายพันธุ์ได้อย่าฃไม่เดือดร้อนเกินไปนัก เรื่องนี้ทำให้นึกถึงการรับมือโควิดและการกลายพันธุ์ด้วยวิธีที่แตกต่างกันที่ท้ายสุดแล้วเทคโนโลยีก็อาจจะแก้ไขได้ไม่สำเร็จสมบูรณ์ บางประเทศเลือกที่จะให้เกิด Natural herd immunity มากกว่าการล็อคดาวน์หรือแบ่งแยกคนเป็นกลุ่มก้อนที่ก็สร้างปัญหาความไม่เท่าเทียมต่อการได้รับทรัพยากรที่จะฝำเป็นต่อการดำรงชีวิต เป็นนักเขียนที่ทำการบ้านมาได้ดี ไม่เยิ่นเย้อ รออ่านเรื่องต่อไปแน่นอน

An extremely slow burn, the majority of this book is focused on the science fiction aspect, so there's little romance, but the few romantic moments between the MCs were very cute and heart melting. The translation is quite good save for some grammatical mistakes. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I enjoyed reading it. And if you're a sci-fi fan and love dystopian books, then you'll definitely love this more than I did.

Welcome to my 2020 spiral: danmei novels edition
I really enjoyed this! I've only read wuxia/xianxia so far so the setting was a nice change; I really love apocalyptic scenarios, especially as the backdrop of a romance, it makes everything more fun because the stakes are a lot higher and the chances of hurt/comfort become endless. The world this novel is set in was truly unsettling, mostly because of the huge insects/monsters thing (I hate bugs with a passion).
I really liked the exploration of what it means to be human and of the resilience of humanity in the face of death, it was touching and interesting. The plot was paced really well, it never got boring.
An Zhe is an amazing protagonist, he was so cute and naive but still incredibly brave and it was fascinating to see his journey while he slowly comes to understand humans. His dynamic with Lu Feng was super sweet, I love when a character has to fight against his beliefs for love so it hit all the right buttons. The angst was Excellent™ and so was the fluff.
The ending is perfect for the tone of this novel, which is pretty dark despite the seemingly lighthearted premise. I only wish the author had delved deeper into Lu Feng's character, I don't feel quite satisfied with what we got from him.

He is only little mushroom QAQ.
An Zhe lives in a world that is pretty much entirely hostile to all life forms. Except for him, since he is just a little mushroom that takes human form and begins exploring what there is left of humanity in this place. What he finds seems to be more than any little mushroom should have to deal with and then there's Lu Feng, who teases him, who could possibly kill him at a moment's notice, but doesn't. Lu Feng, who also protects him in his own way, who stole his spore and who's just weird in general. But An Zhe does grow closer to Lu Feng, seeing beyond the cold Judge exterior that keeps most other humans away. Theirs is a somewhat understated but nontheless moving romance.
The first half of the book is just An Zhe coming to grips with his human exterior and human society and how it functions in this world and the second half ratchets up the tension with ever new twists coming along, punching you in the feelings. There's lots of stuff about physics, evolution and other stuff in this that idk how accurate it is to science, but the way the author uses it in this book makes perfect narrative sense.
The translation is a bit iffy at times, but man I'm so glad someone volunteered their time and effort to translate this, otherwise I might never have read this.
