Cold River #5

Cold River Rennaissance

Rate this book
A world in darkness. A community united. A lunatic serial killer in their midst...

It's day 8 of "The Event," a week into an apocalyptic fight for survival following a mysterious nationwide blackout, and the Cold River Reservation--a safe haven for innocent men, women, and children--is under siege: from both cannibalistic invaders and a treacherous serial killer.

A pack of unhinged criminals has holed up at Kah Nee Ta Resort; they're drinking scotch, admiring their trophies--the heads of the tribal members they've murdered (and in some cases turned into stew)--and plotting a harebrained advance across the Deschutes River and into the Reservation.

Little do they know, the inhabitants of Cold River--a union of Indian and Siyapu (white) survivors--is armed and ready for them. Under the courageous leadership of Tribal Council Leader Bluefeathers and Tribal Police Lieutenant Smokey Kukup, the battle to take back sacred lands is about to begin. And Cold River has a battle plan (involving a perimeter of snipers and a tanker full of explosive fuel) so crazy it just might work.

Despite constant attacks from "the bad men," Aaron Standford, a former Air Force pilot who worked as a hydroelectric engineer at the Boulder Dam, manages to bring power back online with the help of a diesel generator--and a team of armed Indian comrades, now friends sheltering him and his family. Meanwhile, the satellites of the National Reconnaissance Office have picked up all the activity on the Reservation. And the Pentagon doesn't want the country to restore order just yet...

Back on the Res, eighty-six-year old elder Martha Coeur d'Alenes knows something... something only she and Laurel, the tribal police lieutenant's precocious 10-year-old daughter--who has inherited the shaman's gift of seer--know. The psychopathic serial killer who has been mercilessly slaughtering entire Indian families, cloaked by the chaos of the blackout, is hiding among them. Laurel sensed him outside the parking lot where Officer Yazzie disappeared. Martha sensed him inside the clinic—the only safe space on the Reservation… And Martin Andrews, the upstanding Siyapu police chief, is summoning all the help he can get to track down the killer.

Before another family is murdered in cold blood.

This author knows how to write!

I just finished Book 5. The last three of the five contain a continuing story, one I hope is not over yet! Compelling suspense and exciting action, vivid scene descriptions, and about 5,000 characters you want to stand up and whoop with! The main characters? I would love to have them all as my friends and neighbors! I hope there will be a book six!

An Extraordinary Saga

This is possibly the most drama filled, possible reality waiting to happen I've read in a long time. Filled with wonderful and terrible characters who live and fight and die because government is corrupt. Breathless action with a blanket of Native magic makes this a must read...all 5 books!

Cold river

I read all the books in the cold river series, and I loved them all. This author knows how to write. Can't wait to read more of his books, I hope the rest of his books are as good.

A great and memorable series.

This is not your typical run of the mill series. It covers subjects and country you haven't much thought about. It's highly recommended.

Excellent job with his best story.

The only problem with this book is that it isn't finished. I'm looking forward for next one. The story was not ended.

Grammar, grammar

I liked these previously. However, the errors in grammar with many obviously overlooked, in this one needs to be pointed out. Needs new editor?
