Do you believe in love at first sight? That it just hits you out of the blue, changing your life forever? That’s what happened to me. From the first time I saw her, I was lost…
The Voyager continues with this short story about Tolli, the spice maker's son, who has loved Ilona Sigurdsdottir from the first moment he saw her. His love was constant, steadfast, and unbreakable. When tragedy befell the woman he loved, he watched helplessly as Ilona shouldered the blame not just from herself, but from her mother as well. A blame that he believed rightly belonged to him. Determined, Ilona flees their island home in the dark of night. Unwilling to let her go alone, Tolli followed after her, determined to protect her and see her safe, no matter where their travels would lead them. Tolli would follow Ilona anywhere as long as he could be at her side. He'd follow to her ends of the earth, to the tops of the highest mountain, and to the furthest depths of the oceans. There was nothing that would keep him from her...

As short as this book is, there are many problems with it. In the beginning, it is unknown if the first person account is given by a man or a woman. Then the story itself could have taken place anywhere anytime, until about 40% when a group of horseman come through the woods. There is a continuity error as the young man Tolli, who follows the runaway young woman, shows himself to her, worried the horseman will discover her. Then suddenly the two young people begin talking to each other and the horseman are completely forgotten with no explanation! The book jumps to another town in chapter two with no lead in as to how the two people got there. The story doesn't even make sense!

I was extremely disappointed in this novella, especially after reading "The Island of Mists" which was an excellent epic tale by this author.
