Mystic Caravan Circus is heading to Charleston and – per usual – trouble is not far behind.
For Poet Parker, who is grappling with saying goodbye to her assistant, she’s looking forward to quiet nights on the beach and quality time with her boyfriend. All that changes when the sea starts giving up its dead … and they appear to be hungry.
Under normal circumstances, zombies wouldn’t be a big deal. They’re slow, lumbering, and easy to dispatch. This infestation is different … and they appear to be controlled by a strange creature long since thought extinct.
Gorgons were believed to be things of myth and legend but one is haunting the beaches of Charleston … in close proximity to the circus and a writer’s retreat. In fact, the nutty individuals spouting fantastical stories and trying to one-up one another in the bluff house overlooking the circus grounds are all suspects because one of them is controlling the gorgon. Finding the individual responsible for causing endless upheaval and death is no easy task, though.
Poet is a fighter but this battle is all-encompassing.
Not every monster is obvious. Sometimes they hide behind human faces.
This time Poet is going to have to wade through layers of darkness to find the light. Surviving to see the final sunrise will take them all working together … and even then they might not be strong enough to claim victory.
Darkness is coming. Will anyone survive to see the dawn?

When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail.
Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.

Another fantastic book from Amanda

I honestly don’t know how Amanda does it but she always has the best books. She is truly gifted and I’m thankful she shares that gift with us. I love her style of writing, snarky sarcasm is my middle name and I love that I get that each time a new book arrives. Poet, Kade and the crew fight zombies from the sea, fend off nosy writers and it was all enjoyable!

One of my major pet peeves in books is when authors use their books for advertising other books they’ve written, but this book takes that to a whole new level. This time the author have gone from promoting other of her series, to promote other authors, to the point where said author ends up as a major side character in this book! To the point where the plot is actually more muddled than usual. I’m sorry, but this is where I jump ship and look for something else to read.

Flipping brilliant!!

Long awaited and longed for installment in the Mystic Circus series, I am so relieved it wasn't a crossover novel with a certain cruise ship... The title had me wondering.

Poet and her circus family have pulled up in Charleston, right next to the beach and conveniently close to a beach house full of authors on a working trip.

The Dreamcatcher is set off in the small hours by what can only be described as "sea-zombies". They despatch the lot but nothing is ever going to be quite that simple, who, or should it be what, is calling the zombies from the ocean? Can they track down the real monster who's controlling it all? Can they avoid the police crew busy with their surveillance mission to watch the circus folk?

Absolutely loved it.. worth waiting for but I still haven't had enough of Poet and her pals.. more soon please!!

Great Escapism

This a great series to read. Magic and love and monsters. The characters stay consistent from the first through this, the tenth. It's an awesome place to escape into.

Excellent

Another installment in Poets world, and it was amazing. The mixing and adding of characters helps expand the world we live in while we absorb the stories. Thank you

Humorous and fun

I really enjoyed this book in the series. The Mystic Caravan Circus has become one of my favorite series to read. It’s a great combination of characters weaved into a fun story.

I really enjoyed the addition of the Gorgon for this book’s sorta villain. That the actual villain was a little trumped upped tirade of manhood was even better. I only hope being male myself, I don’t have many of the horrible personality traits that Chet exhibited.

I liked how this time around the police officer knew about the paranormal world and held them accountable for their actions. Good for when they did it, but called them on it when Poet was going to modify his memories. I understand the premise of why she does it, but therein also lies the temptations to always use it and become the monster she’s trying to keep out of her world.

Having the extra story by adding the other writers on a retreat together was humorous. I wonder how much poetic license she took with each, or if instead she used this story to vent her frustrations on those she didn’t care for? Either way it was enjoyable as the reader.

While telling this fun romp, I am glad she posted the realities of what it takes to be a writer, especially a self-publishing one. Though I am not one myself, I understand that it is not an easy route. It takes a lot of drive, hard work and sacrifice and even then, you may not get to the point of being able to make it your livelihood. To truly be a good writer, you have to start with the need to constantly write. I have always had the fantasy, as many have, of writing a good novel for others to enjoy. I have realized though I much prefer to read someone else’s prose and leave the hard work of writing it, to my dreams. Now, turning my love of reading into possible editorial skills for others, that might be a worthwhile for me.

One point of the story she could have easily pursued, and likely should have was regarding the newbie author’s necklace, which Poet noticed at the supermarket. That she brought up that she was slightly drawn or hypnotized by it, I think should have made that one of the first avenues of potential suspects in their search of the writers. That the character was only brought up for that one scene and then disregarded seemed odd. Certainly they would have seen each other again at the dinner party at the house, where Poet and gang could have ruled her out or in, as the case may be. Maybe she was just giving a new author a roundabout introduction to us as fans, for us to check out their books, which would have been fine, but then why bring up anything about her necklace?

Overall a good story and with each new novel in the series, the characters continue to grow and develop. In this genre it would be easy for an author to just do the same thing over and over, which you have to do to a degree, but a good author knows to develop their characters and expand on the story and characters lives, while still giving the reader the basic story premise that originally drew us to read their stuff in the first place,

Heartbreaking and (Lily)har(harper)twarming

So, Chekov be damned by this story, because there be lots of guns hanging on the wall I hope are shot off in future stories: what's in the water in first coda, what happened to Pompeii Queen, and what is the pen name of Sarah Hilton (because according to kindle, that author writes German porn, which is fine, but I don’t read German :( and I need more stories -even if it involves pimento cheese, which as a girl from 'Sconnie, sounds super sketch). Regardless, it's a hellova story and probably a great therapy session for the author. Or, Lily Harper Hart. Or, something. Made me laugh. Made me cry. Made me wish I could send the author my favorite coffee mug that has a picture of Princess Leia with a blaster saying, "A Woman's Place is in the Resistance." Lenny Mudd, if you're interested. But, I digress. Poet was my first foray into the world of Amanda M. Lee (and lhh). The Mystic Caravan is still one of my very favorite worlds, still brilliant and charming, full of fun and hope. Can't wait to go back. In the meantime, I am very happy hanging out with Scout, Stormy, AVERY, Izzy (And the other Grimlock family), as well as Maddie, Ofelia, Ivy, Harper, etc. Again, thanks for the escape. If we have to be social distancing, so glad to spend the time with you.

Always an outstanding supernatural cozy mystery series

Outstanding supernatural cozy mystery series. An exceptional cast of characters and an awesome action packed storyline. Poet parker is a magical person who is mostly Romani but is actually many other magical traits mixed together. She is second in command of a traveling circus that roams the country entertaining The masses with their shows. They also are actually a traveling band of monster hunters. Most of them are supernatural in someway. They set up a Dreamcatcher around the circus that draws in evil. Evil humans as well as evil supernatural beings. They capture destroy or stop any evil they find. They have shifters mages elemental witches a magical dwarf from another dimension a couple of pixie sisters from another dimension and ancient lamia and others. Follow along as they move around the country saving humanity from evil. An awesome cast of characters that you will fall in love with and look forward to every new book that comes out.
This author has an amazing ability to enter twine snarky wit and humor into her stories that just make them amazing. I look forward to everyone of her series that she writes. You will not be disappointed check them all out.

Unexpected

I've often confused Lily Harper Hart and Amanda M. Lee's books because the writing styles are so similar with similar characters. Lily Harper Hart appears in this book as an author that gets mixed up in the mystery. Maybe this confirms that they are the same person? Anyway the book was one of the better of Lee's books. This is the series that I enjoy the most of hers. I do think the author should diversify her characters between series. There's lots of ways to make fun characters without using the same exact outline for character traits. Honestly, I hope never to meet anyone like the authors main characters in her other series because they would really annoy me. Poet is actually likeable but I'm not into the long lovey dovey dialogue in every single chapter. I do skip paragraphs but many seem to enjoy her style. Lee has a set formula that sells books but I would love to see her expand her characters to new areas and backgrounds. She has so much potential.

I am "freaking" in love with this cover art! While I love all of the covers in the series, this one is my favorite. The ocean is always mysterious - and this cover is certainly intriguing and grabs your attention right away getting you in the mood to dig in to the story. The author has created a cast of characters that are just perfect - through thick and thin, arguments and everything else that life has to offer, this group is the "family" that you make - can always be trusted to have each other's backs. The concept of a traveling circus that provides cover for their other mission - to eliminate evil in all its forms - is just brilliant. The adventures and monsters are always unique and interesting. Love this series and hope it continues for a good long time.

Gorgons and Zombies and authors! Oh my!

This time the Mystic Circus travel to Charleston and bump into an authors retreat. Snarky characters as usual in a different setting. But are all Monsters truly monstrous. Poet and the rest are once again reminded that sometimes looks can be deceiving. I love how her relationships continue to grow. It's honestly an enjoyable read and I would happily let my teen read these books. There is mention of s e x but not graphic. I enjoy the added humour that happens because of who the characters are. Nellie is a favourite - what's not to like at a bearded evening gown loving dwarf from another plane with a love of removing heads with his axe .

The carnival setup up at a beach and is promptly attacked by water zombies, plus a writer's retreat is in session nearby.

What I enjoyed:
* I really liked Lily and Sara, but wow were the rest of the authors awful
* Cole is really fitting into the group
*
* Nice to see Poet handing off some responsibility for a change

What could be better:
*
* I can't remember the last time Luke shifted, that seems odd

Worth the wait

The first Amanda Lee book that I read, was the first book in the Mystic Caravan series. I have thoroughly enjoyed them all since then. Her characters and stories are able to combine humor, sarcasm, and wit. Her subject matter, murder could easily be depressing and her use of the paranormal could be unbelievable, but they are neither. She never takes death lightly or treats it disrespectfully. This book is just fun to read. The only complaint that I have is I read them faster than she writes them. However that has let me read books from her other series which is definitely a good thing!

Another Amanda M. Lee winner! I’m rereading this series as well as her others, though I am ordering the print versions of the Mystic Caravan series this time around. The characters are hilarious. I love love love Nellie. Who wouldn’t like an ax-wielding dwarf in a dress? I would love to sit down with this author while she brainstorms characters. I wonder how much tequila is involved.....

The cover art is awesome too. I’m not sure who her artist is but I like the colorful and doll-like renditions.

Bottom line - if you like fun, paranormal cozy mysteries, go back to number one of the Mystic Caravan series and start there.

I love this series! The author’s writing is snarky, sarcastic, and smart with healthy doses of humor and seriousness alike. The characters, even the ones I might not love, have stayed consistent from the very first book, keeping them familiar to the reader. And there is so much to love in these books… magic, monsters, and romance! One of the things I love most about these books is the revisioning of mythology and lore. In this one, the author blended zombie lore with gorgon mythology, and it made for a really fun read. I also loved the little self-insert of the author’s alter (other author) ego! A fun little Easter egg.

Holy catballs Batman!

This book was written so well that it make you wonder if some of the characters are real. I know Lily is real and the only one online with Sarah's name write German erotica but that not who is described here. This gives the reader an inside the mind and work and lives of author of different genres. It's so wonderfully written that you know the soul sisters of Amanda and Lily are speaking to the readers all over. Very well written and read. Congrats on this one Amanda!!!

Poet an pals face off against Zombies this time around.

The Mystic Circus is at the seaside in this instalment of the series. Only something evil is at work, the sea have begun giving up their dead, in huge numbers. While Poet and her friends are well used to dealing with dangerous supernatural enemies including Zombies, they need to find who is responsible for the Zombies resurrection in order to end the danger once and for all. Only problem they have no clue who could be responsible but they do have an idea of where to look. They just have to hope they are right.

Zombies Oh My

I absolutely loved this book!
The circus comes to the beach and with it comes zombies and writers. Yes writers. You would think this was just another paranormal book about the good and the evil but when you finally read this, you learn that not all is as it seems. Writers can be dangerous and cruel. It is hard to decide who are the monsters but it is a fun read to find out who is calling the zombies. If you like snark, you will find plenty in this book plus all the fun that comes with this group of circus people. Love it.

The friendships between the characters continues to strengthen. I didn’t cry, but my eyes got moist.
This book takes place along the east coast. There are zombies in this one! There are some nods to the history of the area, including Miles Standish. While I remember his name, I have no recollection of why he is in the history books. I was surprised by his character in this story. Now I need to check out a biography on this man.

Isn’t it fun when books make you want to do a deep-dive into the subject matter? HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I am addicted to this series

I suffer from major chronic depression and read a lot. I have become addicted to the Mystic Caravan Mystery series, loving pretty much everything about it. I am looking forward to reading some of the other series when I finish this one. I evidently share Ms. Lee’s sense of humor and snarkiness, and find that her proofreaders are a cut above the usual. I don’t normally leave a review as I just prefer to rate with stars, but wanted to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to Ms Lee and to urge others to read these books.

Fun series!

This series is about monster hunters that travel the country in a circus. The characters are well developed and the conversations flow naturally. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. It is definitely best to read this series in order since the dynamics of the characters change and new players are introduced. Can't wait for the next adventure.

Did it again!

This book was everything I wanted it to be. And I love Cole, he makes an awesome addition to the team. I was kind of hoping Claire would join but I understand why she didn't. I absolutely love you adding in your alter ego as a character in the book. She was fun and snarky. As always you gave your readers a book that sucked you in and wouldn't let go until it was finished...thank you!

Best one yet!

This series is one of my favorites and this book hit it out of the park! I so enjoy the stories where authors are a part of the story as the way they are described here will have you laughing out loud. The Mystic Caravan folks are so fun to read about as they grow and develop more from one book to the next. If you like heaps of snark and healthy doses of romance with your paranormal cozy romances then you’ll love this book!

Beware - Addiction to Amanda M Lee books is highly likely!

Excellent return visit to the Mystic Caravan series - Poet and the circus gang are up against zombies and not just the ordinary variety but possible pirates dredged up from the depths of the ocean. And it all goes down during a writer’s convention, so the reader has plenty of quirky suspects muddying the waters during Mystic Caravans stay in Charleston.

Lost voices

I felt like poets character kept breaking throughout this book and the authors voice kept shining through. Mystic caravan is one of my favorite series and I usually finish it in one sitting. This one took me awhile to get through. There was so much focus on the two authors and very little on the mystic characters. It wasn’t fun and fast paced this dragged with so many unnecessary details that I found myself skimming

Really Excellent Story

Amanda M Lee has written another great story following the adventures of the Mystic Caravan Circus. This time we find our heroes in Charleston by the sea. They meet a group of writers holding a get together close by and become friendly with some of the members. Adventures ensue with paranormal events. The story is well written and keeps the reader interested and engrossed in it. This is definitely a must read.

Really Good Story

The book started off with an episode from Poet's past. That showed me what a strong young woman she was. And she has only gotten stronger. I loved this story. I am not a big fan of zombies, but this one was truly different. What a surprising cast of characters. That was a lot of fun. The ending was very good. It made me a touch sad. But you have to walk in someone else's shoes before you can truly understand their feelings.

Water zombies

Yep this is a new threat to humanity. Zombies rising from the ocean. More monsters to hunt. As the team investigates, they find that the zombies are being controlled by a Gorgon, who in turn is being controlled by a narcissistic douchcanoe of an author. They have to get the talisman from him to free the Gorgon, who really is not a bad sort, when not being controlled anyway. Magic, mayhem, and monsters!
