If you can’t conceal your fire, let it burn.

I’m alone, afraid, and desperate. It’s a terrible combination for an omega, especially one that has caught the attention of the top alphas at school.

I made the mistake of falling for the Boucher twins and their dangerously hot friend, Nik. Then, I ran.

How dangerous? Nik’s dad is an infamous rogue dragon that ran southside. Now that Theo is imprisoned, Nik has inherited his gang. Did I mention that the twins almost became my stepbrothers before my mom died? We had crossed lines that are terribly blurred now.

Dragons. Alphas. Bad.

An unknotted omega on her own, like me, can easily fall prey to their lusts or become victim to the other monsters that prey on innocence.

It’s time for me to turn the hunt around. My heart may still be bleeding from my losses, but I can’t keep hiding. I will use deceit. Entrap them. Make those alphas mine to rule.

Omegas are dragons, too.

Standalone RH fantasy romance.

Interesting premise and had potential, just not for me

So my biggest qualm is that I didn't understand a lot of Shelly's distrust of the guys. It takes over half of the book before she starts to trust them and there's a few details of her past with then be since we don't get much of those details and pretty much the entire book it's obvious from the beginning that not only do they love her but that they can be trusted, it just didn't make sense to me and irritated me. Maybe if the past had been shown more it would've bothered me less. The entire time I was yelling at her to trust them and come clean. There's a perfect opportunity about halfway in and she doesn't take it and just refuses to trust them.
There's also some unnecessary bits where she is all woe is me, they don't want me etc. and certain that when one of them finds the truth that he's no longer interested, that in my opinion was unprecedented and didn't fit her character at all.
There's some interesting elements here, the politics of things and the idea of the age of maturity being 25, the separation between betas, alphas, and omegas could've been more interesting to explore. Also are all omegas female, alphas male, and betas either? That could've been an interesting thing to know.
Some things were left unanswered, like the fact that she was hidden. I guess there might be another book to explain that? I'm not sure. I probably won't read it.
I loved the unique elements of the universe. I loved the guys.
I hated the main characters personality. Her refusal to trust people that have proven they're trustworthy, her refusal to accept help, her insistence that she handle things on her own, her playing hard to get/basically being unnecessary difficult and contrary, and she seemed to have a lot of self hatred for her (not sure what the proper word would be) hidden identity. I could understand some of that to a certain extent because of what happened to her, but some of it seemed to basically be that she thought she was better that other omegas because she was "different." Some of it did seem to stem from how omegas are treated differently, which could've been delved into more but wasn't really touched on.

Low key terrible for many reasons...

Okay, first up, honesty and very very mild spoilers...

a lot of story happened before this book started, but it is not well explained. We are told that there was a previous relationship between the characters but it is actually REALLY complicated and poorly explained. There is a sort of casual attitude towards romantic interludes in the book, that is to say, all characters are very active with many many romantic partners, and the FMC is only minimally jealous. It is not clear if that was going on while they were in their prior relationship. Let's just say this was all over the place, secondary characters were scant and never developed, the world building felt incidental and I never got invested in the plot.

So, so happy I found another new-to-me omegaverse series!

This book had a long, complete storyline, the right amount of angst, a satisfying steam factor & strong chemistry between main characters you loved to root for. Yeah, they were jerks sometimes & liked to keep their secrets hidden longer than I wanted them to but... they were dragons, of course. *shrugs*

The only odd thing about it was what Lucien revealed about himself at the 85% mark... It felt rushed & like it was an unnecessary side-plot point since it literally amounted to like two pages of the book.

I also wish it was a skosh longer at the end (because I'm a greedy b*tch & wanted more knotting, more detailed reactions from their classmates after they came together & to know the identity of Shelly's dad) but overall, it was really good.

On to the next book in this Hidden Dragon Omegaverse series, Phantom Orchid! Different characters, I believe, but it still sounds like a goodie.

I really struggled with this book...the first part drove me up a wall and I ended up with a headache because I felt the heroine was all over the place and it felt really slow....I almost DNF'd numerous times.
Then the story picked up and I got into it, still slow moving but I got it. Unfortunately, it started to fall flat again toward the end. The heroine constantly "gushed" between her legs and the guys lost some of their appeal and never really fulfilled their "alpha" roles (IMO).
I teetered between 2.5-3 stars but then there's a weird non-ending that completely ruined it for me. Also, there were some things that needed addressing but were just left out there with a one or two word ending.
Overall, just not a win.

Overall I really liked this book, but there were some parts I skimmed over when it just seemed to drawn out. Nice take on the omegaverse genre.

Disappointing.

I really wanted to like this book and was looking forward to it because of the amazing reviews and the recommendations from my book group.

However, it didn’t hold my attention well. There was a lot of confusion, a lot of parts that weren’t explained properly, some typos, and some contradictions.

I think my biggest issue was the contradicting bits though. If she’s hopped up on suppressants, it makes zero sense that she would respond as an omega at all.
Auguste said he’d be able to find the “omega” by kissing or smelling her arousal. Yet, he was in several situations where she was aroused and had no idea.
The intimacy was unrealistic and difficult to follow.

Please explain to me what woman gets her heart broken, complains in her inner monologue constantly about being humiliated, yet jumps into intimate settings with said boys that caused those problems?

Overall, it wasn’t my cup of tea. If you like a weak female that gives into whatever and a story that contradicts itself repeatedly, then you’ll enjoy this.
Otherwise, read something else.

Origionally I dnf at 14% and reviewed it as a one star. But then I came back to it and dnf at 63% and rated it 3 stars. It got better, but not enough to make me stay.

Alphas are powerful dragons who have fancy jobs and are at the top of the economic, social and political food chain. Omegas are their broodmares who enjoy sex and nice things (though it is mentioned that they grow up and educated to behave this way), omegas have weaker dragons. Sexuaul needs/desires drive them. Betas are basically human. There are more betas than dragons, so they have some say (they are not just "prey") so they govern and make laws.

The world is interesting, for that I gave it one star. Another star because of timeframe and building the story. The third star is because I dont think it deserves 2 stars.

FMC is a omega pretending to be beta using hormonal suppressant pills so she doesn't jump the alphas with sexual need. Though she emits enough pheromones for me to wonder.. how do they not know? Harem (3) are powerful Alphas.

I disliked the harem, they were pushy and too alpha. FMC and harem didnt not connect on any level excecpt sexual. The entire book is based on their sexual needs. Some plot to move it along.
I disliked how there was only vague mentions of FMC's supposively TW past but no triggers or ptsd or flashbacks.. just a vauge mention and a bad guy. FMC is able to want and have sex at an excessive rate despite past... with no problems. Just bugged me.

**3.5 Rounded Up**

I LOVED the idea of a Hidden Omega, and the reasons WHY she remained hidden, even though she lives in a world that caters to her kind. Once that becomes clear, it starts making more sense, though the world itself is still a jumble.

There is a lot to love here, with ideas and basic plot, I just wish it had been put together a bit better. Shelly has a scarred past she is trying to save her sister from, and the Alphas she once called family can help her achieve that goal. That part is phenomenal, but getting from point A to point B, and understanding the journey, is chaotic and often troubling. Honestly, for almost half the book, you really don't know what is going on - or why.

It also needs a good spit polish in regards to editing, though the errors are not annoying enough to stall the narrative, simply noticeable.

As for the dynamics between the group, it's an Omega-Verse book, and comes with all the bells and whistles such a genre requires. If you don't know what Omega-Verse means, look it up BEFORE you read or buy. It's not bad, just a different kind of kink than some. I am on the fence with the Omega-Verse.... sometimes, with some stories, I love it. Other times, I find it degrading and dismissive. This was more of the former category, though it still bleeds plenty of Alpha vibes along the way.

Not thank you.

I can’t, the only reason I this book even gets two stars is because it somehow managed to make me read until the very end. I dislike the sex so so much in this one. It is overly violent and doesn’t come off as sexy at all. At least not to me. The whole thing kind of feels like they are trying to hard, it kind of feels like a vanilla person is writing what they think it is like. It falls flat and honestly just makes me uncomfortable.

In more than one spot the story had me confused about what was happening. It feels like the author said one thing but then another thing happened. I had to go back and read it again.

Also can someone please explain to me why they took so long to find out she’s an omega? Are they all deaf, dumb and blind? It is so easy to tell and to see, then you add in the fact that these people are supposed to have heightened senses and they still couldn’t do it. It was beyond annoying to see.

Then things that characters should have big reactions about gets hardly any reaction. Things that are really ridiculous get this blown out of proportion reaction.

The sex sucked, the characters are bland and unimpressive and I don’t understand why this book is over 400 pages. It’s too long.

Not to mention at the 87% mark we get this giant thing to surprise us and then it doesn’t even really get resolved at the end of the book.

Just no.

*UPDATED Again*. I tried. I really, really, really tried. I couldn’t get over the fact that in the last 12 pages there were 13 references to this main characters ovaries. Honestly, if this was meant to be a fun trope or something for us as the readers to laugh about because this quirky main character talks about her ovaries all the time, and it becomes a punchline with the men she’s with? This fell flatter than Joe Koi about Taylor Swift. DNFed at 70%
*UPDATED* Made it to 47% and there were literally 20 references to ovaries. Look. It’s incredibly detracting. I would recommend a thesaurus, the urban dictionary, or read some spice to get more variety. At this rate? I will DNF if it continues. 103 uses of the word. 103. 103. I just can’t………

I really wanted to love this story. Really, truly did. Nearly DNFed it at 30%. Why? Because of a personal nitpick. If the phrase “my ovaries” was used one more time - and it was overused to signal that attraction Shelly had - I was just going to abandon it. The biggest feedback I have is that these characters are written as though they are teenagers yet they are adults. This can be explained away as dragon biology, but it’s grating. It detracts from a story that actually could be amazing. All of the characters are compelling. But. The overuse for Shelly about her ovaries exploding and her constant repeat about her hidden omega status - we get it, dear author… it tarnished this one for me.

Omegaverse dragons

Not a bad stand alone book. It was plenty steamy with a plot which didn’t seem shallow or trivial. The plot itself with Shelly and her uncle, was rather dark and can be triggering to some readers so be mindful when picking this up.

The book did take me a while to get in to and gain momentum. The first few chapters actually had me confused as to what exactly was happening and the significance of the characters being introduced and their relationship with each other. After a few chapters, some background information was given which made the beginning make more sense but it was almost enough for me to call it quits so it was good timing on the author’s part.

The steamy is super hot but lies more on the BDSM spectrum than I had expected. There is bondage, orgasm permission and control, toys, spankings, and clamps. I was actually surprised with the alpha dynamics between the 3 alphas in the group. The alpha leader Nik would command his fellow alphas and they usually took the command without argument which seems oxymoronic. While the steam was plenty spicy, I did struggle to get behind the sincerity of the relationships. I can’t exactly pinpoint a reason why though so it may just be my frame of mind.

This story pulls you through to the end. The author warns that there may be triggers. The subject material can be sensitive and people should pay attention to the warning. The story was a little darker than I cared for, but it was easy to finish the book.

Nevertheless, the story has a definite plot and carries you through to the HEA. It does seem that some parts are a little contrived, but overall the plot is logical. There is a lot of the world in which this story takes place that the author assumes the reader already is familiar with for example an Alpha, Omega, Beta, and knotted. However, the context is sufficient for anyone to figure it out and most readers would already have the cultural references to figure what is meant. Also the author does explain these things as the story progresses.

The heroine is an older sister trying to protect her sister and finish her schooling all while hiding her true nature. She has a complicated back story involving the heroes in this reverse harem urban fantasy romance.

(DNF like 60%) This book is pretty boring and makes little to no sense. One moment the mc is ranting about how she could never forgive the male leads for what they are doing to her another moment she's literally happily letting them boink her in a classroom. I get she's an omega and hormones will mess with her but it still doesn't explain her dumb behavior at least other mcs that have the same issue tend to at least fight back when they can she doesn't she just accepts what they giver her. Then the men in this story are uninteresting and fail to capture your interest, not to mention everytime they switch perspectives it is painful how much of the authors personality bleeds through each character despite them being apparently drastically different people. Every time she writes shit like "that's so gangster," or, " she doesn't need to know this gangster side if me. " It makes me cringe and tells me all that I need to know about this out of touch author. The premise would be interesting if maybe someone else wrote it.

*Spoiler Alert*
Shelly (FMC) is a multi-faceted character. Not only is she an Omega dragon posing as a Beta (because of how Omegas are treated amongst other things) but she is also on a course of revenge against her ex-stepfamily (or would have been). In particular brothers - Auguste & Lucien. As well as their friend Nik except they all bring a new set complications being that theyre trying Alphas and they are trying to sniff her out (literally!!). Which kicks off a steamy game of cat & mouse with Shelly & the guys. Theres also a dark backstory that runs along side this one that focuses on a paedophile, murder and death threats. Which all adds to the tension of the book even if its hard to read in places. A pretty good read though. I really liked Shelly's stubborn, no nonsense attitude and the way the guys kept up their pursuit of her was not only steamy but funny too. A great read

The only con I found in this book is some bad editing, like words missing/omitted or incorrect words. Sometimes the book went off course for a moment, causing confusion. Lastly, the most irritating thing of all, is the author's obsession with alliteration. About every other page mentions alliteration. Alright Mercedes, I am glad you are aware of how to use figurative language, but it is overused in this book.

I loved the spin of alpha and omega by using dragons. It was unique and interesting. I actually wish this was a series because I liked the characters and the world the author built. Although, the storyline wrapped up nicely, especially with the epilogue, I believe a series would still be an option. I found this book by accident, and it was a nice treasure. Overall, it was well written and thoroughly enjoyable.

2.5 stars Blah

Got to the 45% mark and just couldn't keep my interest. The plot didnt resonate with anything beyond pettiness of the whole blackmailing scenario. Then there were times I was so confused about what actually went on. Some scenes were straight up ridiculous and I didn't find it funny how it was meant to. Shelly seems bipolar and childish 99% of the time. I didn't like her at all. The world building was introduced in ways that seemed like after thoughts to make sense in specific situations to explain away the crazy. I should have thrown in the towel after the first chapter, because boy was that nonsensical... but tried to push through, and I just can't any more. It's a chore to read.

Weird flow

The story is interesting and everything, but it’s hard to get into because right off the back there is so much extra information that isn’t needed. It makes the story read very choppy. The information needed to establish the characters and the plot don’t flow together.

For example, as the fmc is introducing the male main characters and the problem....there is so much information about their looks and relationship in a way that’s distracting and seems young. Shelly talks about Auguste being her weak spot right out of the blue, like in the middle of her trying to get out of a situation. (Sorry vague but I’m trying not to give spoilers)
It makes the book and all the characters read younger than they are.

I don’t even have words

This was my very first omegaverse book and I have to say I’m thoroughly impressed. It’s also my first book by this author and I have to say she’s an amazing writer. I was hooked from the beginning of the book, and I didn’t put the book down until completion. Shelly is a complex character and I just adored watching her get some closure on her past, and finally acknowledge who she is. Nicholas, Auguste and Lucien are amazing men and I absolutely love their devotion to Shelly. If you’re looking for an intro to omegaverse books, this is the one for you. I felt it gave a solid understanding of the genre whilst also providing good world building and strong character development. I highly recommend this book!

Inconsistent males

I wanted to like this book, I really did. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t any development for the characters. No real backstory to how they all know each other. Just that she’s in lust with them all and that they lust after her too. Also doesn’t seem to be any real poly relationship because one male character is seen as the lead and the other two are pushed back. I DNF at 60 percent because the constant talk about her ovaries was too much. Really? Your ovaries are what’s controlling your very needy attraction to these men? I could say more but I’ll leave it at this: don’t read it if you’re hoping for a developed character or anything really outside of subpar sex scenes.

Really good omegaverse

Before reading, I had my doubts because I am picky with what I like in the theme "omegaverse". As usual, Mercedes stayed on top with this book. After 5 minutes of reading, I looked at the number of percentage remaining and I already knew that I didn't want it to end. I no longer count the times when I laughed all alone and knowing that it is a stand alone I forced myself to slow down my reading and sometimes even reread the same pages twice. If you want a good reverse harem treat yourself and read it! And when you finish reading and want some more see her other series specially Fairie series you won't regret it.

I enjoyed this omegaverse book. It was different than the other ones I've read before, mostly it's how the world and classifications are set up but it made an interesting world that I would like more from. The only thing I didn't like was how confusing it seemed at times, especially regarding Shelly's plan for the guys and how it seemed to change some as the book went on. I liked all the main characters and how they all seemed to be stronger together even if some of them fights that a little more than other *cough* Shelly *cough*. Hopefully we get more from this world in the future, maybe with Susie one day.

Not bad, could use some editing

This is more like 3.5 stars but can't do halfsies. I don't want to be too hard on the book because it was definitely readable and entertaining but it was not perfect.

The plot was interesting and there was a lot going on but toward the begining it was not conveyed very clearly. It was extremely difficult to follow based on what was written, a lot had to be intuited.

The editing was not good. Again, you could still figure it out if you made assumptions about the expected sentence structure but it was pretty bad. Im not an English professor by any means but there were many times that I thought to myself, "I don't think this is a complete sentence," or just thought that a sentence was difficult to read. There was times that the wrong word seemed to be used. For example, consciousness instead of conscience was used. Grammatically, both words were correct in the sentence but the meaning is clearly different and the one not used made a LOT more sense. Also, there were many times that an exclamation mark was used to end a sentence which would have been much better ended with a period.

The main female character seemed to suffer from extreme and unexplained mood swings. One moment she was angry and then immediately sweet. There were some instances of this that were obviously sarcasm but more often than not they seemed random and sincere.

There was also a massive over abundance of the word overies. Constantly talking about ovaries and follicles... It was incredibly over done and unnecessary. Kinda gross really....

I felt the whole book was a little unsophisticated in general. It read like a draft of what could be a really good book. It wasnt bad but it needs some work to iron out the wrinkles.

Pleasantly Surprised

I have never read a book from Mercedes Jade, or read a book about this in depth with knotting (not new to me in other shifter books, however, none really explained how it felt). It was a great story and I easily loved all the main characters. This is not really a bully book, but has some bad boy feels. Each character seems to have a secret of some sort and this book was a welcome of fresh air. This story is complete and I would definitely recommend if in a slump. Enjoy! The sexy scenes are wonderfully delicious and had to reread some of them! Yes please haha.

Could there be more??

Like other books by this author, you want more. Her characters become your friends; they make you laugh and their problems and struggles become your own. I found myself emersed in the world-building of this book. It doesn't quite fall into the Omegaverse trope, but there are the elements there. It's good on its own and worthy of more books for these characters because I'm not done with them. They have too much potential and. . . dare I say character to be limited to one book. Please give me, umm I mean us more.

I really enjoyed this one!!! It’s got me wanting more more more!!!
I wish it had been part of a series and that we got to have more Shelly, Nik, Auguste and Lucien! Loved the omega and alpha side to it all!!! Especially the dragons! I’ve never read an omega verse book with dragons so this was new and awesome!
I wished we had more knotting though ;)
Gotta say i don’t think i had a favourite! Her mates were all really great!
And Shelly was amazing!! I loved her fire! She fought back but underneath it all, *mostly* submissive to her alphas and I loved that!
I really wish it was a series!!

Great omega book

This book was good. It has some triggering content it does not go into details just hints. Shelly is a strong sassy flawed character who is doing everything she can to get the 3 bad boys of the school to owe her a favor. Said bad boys are trying to do everything they can to get Shelly to finally admit the truth about her feelings. There are twists and turns. Tons of sexy times. Some humor and heart jerking moments. I hope the author writes more in this universe. Well done.

How?

How am I just finding this author? This was such an interesting read my complaints aside from some trivial grammatical errors, are that this book didn’t start at the earlier time period and build to where this female is now. It didn’t feel fully developed because it was missing the beginning, the start of her mom dating mr. Boucher her hiding her status. There’s so much potential with this book that I REALLY want to see. Also I needed a little more steam but holy cow what was there I liked.
