Hot Brits #1

One Hot Chance

Rate this book
I am cursed. One Friday night, after a horrible day at work, I decide to cheer myself up with a one-night stand with a hot stranger. The guy who propositions me has a scorching bod and a sexy British accent. Cheered up? Check. Until Monday morning, when I walk into the office, and there he is.

My one-nighter is my boss's ex-husband. And her newest business partner.
Raisa Volkov is the toughest, most successful divorce attorney in New York and the woman every aspiring female lawyer wants to be. As her paralegal, I do whatever she tells me to do. And guess what? She just ordered me to help her win back her ex. Lucky me.

Trouble is, Chance Dixon doesn't want his ex-wife. He wants me. My brain warns me to say no, but my body has other, much naughtier ideas.

I'm so getting fired.

One Hot Chance is the first book in the Hot Brits series of contemporary romances.

Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that’s the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad’s job as an instructor pilot. She’s lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska—and now Ohio.

As for her writing, Anna has always invented stories in her head, but she didn’t write them down until her teen years. This book is both good and not good...

What’s it about?
There’s this woman named Elena has very bad luck and has her whole life. She meets this guy named Chance one night but after they bang in an elevator real quickly she thinks that they won’t ever meet again because Chance doesn’t call her.
When she goes back to work her boss wants Elena to get her ex-husband to come back. That ex-husband? It’s actually Chance... and he is crazy about Elena!

Pros:
The characters are well written and likable. I found myself actually caring about the characters (well except for Elena’s boss/Chance’s ex-wife, she was a total bitch).
This book has a good amount of comic relief moments, it works pretty well. I got a surprising number of chuckles out of this one.
The romance is very cute! It’s a relationship that is trying to succeed against several obstacles, I like that.
I should note that this book is an erotic romance so expect plenty of sex but don’t worry, it is very hot and well written.

Cons:
The story is kinda meh itself. Like if it wasn’t for likable characters, cute romance and hot sex, I would have hated it on just the plot trying to stand alone. To be fair, due to good writing I didn’t quite hate it but the plot alone just isn’t great I guess.
This book is somewhat boring. I don’t know quite how to word it but I found myself losing focus and beginning to not pay attention (though to be fair my mind has been easily distracted and not able to focus lately... because of stupid shit too (for example, old commercial jingles))
description
(If you can’t hear that picture you either don’t live in the US or didn’t watch TV in the 00’s)
This book is very predictable.

Overall:
As a cute fluffy romance story, it works. As particularly good literature, go elsewhere.
If you like romance this is cute and humorous but if not, don’t bother.

What happens if a good girl takes a chance and has a hot one-night-stand?
She discovers that the hot Brit is her boss’ newest business partner and also her ex-husband.

Mostly a sweet and fun story with little conflict. Excellent narrated by Shane East and Vanessa Edwin.

While I enjoyed most of the narration done by Vanessa Edwin and Shane East, I just couldn’t get into the book.

The story of Chance and Elena is part workplace romance with the boss’ ex and part instalove thrown in for good measure. I just wasn’t feeling it.

The workplace romance fell flat for me after their initial one nighter before either of them knew who each other was. It was a hot sizzling meeting though.

The rest of the book was a bit wordy for my taste when it came to sex. I kept hoping for more swoon factor or heat, but I didn’t get it. Elena’s brother was pretty fun though and you got to meet Chance’s brothers for future books.

If you enjoy the narrators, you may enjoy this. They kept me invested.

Cute, short, and hot. Good little novella. I always find reviewing short novellas hard but it was satisfying. The characters were likable and the story kept moving. The narrators were excellent as per usual. You can't beat a bit of Shane East. Teamed up with Vanessa Edwin, it's a winning combo.

This was an okay book, I'm just not sure exactly what I just read.

I guess I would categorize this as insta-lust/love because the way Chance pursued Elena, it seemed like he was already in love with her. There meet cute I say was more like a meet hot because things went from 0 to 100 in a manner of seconds; also Chance did a major faux pas, never answer a phone call in the middle of happy fun time especially if it is your ex calling.

Chance instead of acting like a mature lawyer around Elena, Chance took every opportunity to seduce Elena, now it must be stated their boss, Raisa, is Chance's ex-wife who he recently divorced. I just couldn't get into this book, it felt too immature; they could have done the professional as well as adult thing and told the truth, but no they decided to hide until they couldn't anymore. Now don't get it mistaken I am not a fan of Raisa at all, she was a crazy woman who brought all her problems to work and took it out on her staff, as well as abused her power and position especially with Elena.

Honestly felt like I was reading a high school book where the main characters are saying their studying in their room, but are actually hooking up.

Also must you have sex in the living room knowing you brother lives with you and can/will walk in; yet you are still scandalized.

This was a good fit when I was looking for a short (4 hours), sexy listen. Especially since I know how much I like Vanessa Edwin & Shane East.

The office romance between Elena & Chance definitely moves at warp speed. Elena attempts to keep things professional – but that barely lasts a week and then there’s numerous steamy scenes to enjoy. Chance’s ex, who is also Elena’s boss, threatens to ruin their happiness and they resort to sneaking around.

The ending felt a little over-the-top for the length of time Elena & Chance were together, but the epilogue solidified the HEA. It also introduced Chance’s family and set up the foundation for Reese’s book, One Hot Roomie.

Vanessa Edwin & Shane East were both terrific here. They both do a good job of keeping voices & accents consistent and I enjoy the way each portrays the character of the opposite sex.

Note: This is being combined into an audio box set of all three Dixon Brothers books.

Book 1 in Hot Brit series by Anna Durand.
Narrated by Shane East and Vanessa Edwin.
Chance is a attorney that goes back to work for his ex-wife to help out while she finds another attorney to stay to employ. While he’s there he meets Elenain a bar and they have a very steamy encounter but when Chance turns up to work next day he comes face to face with her again and she works for his ex wife as a paralegal that is very hard-working and passionate about her job.
I absolutely love this story and really enjoy operation narrator for a British character only thing I find a little weird is Chance isn’t a popular British name and I do think a more English name would be better.
Vanessa Edwin does a fantastic job at a British accent when it comes to her parts in the box absolutely love this box set and can’t wait to work my way through more in the series

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧 Entertaining & Steamy🔥

One Hot Chance
Hot Brits, Book 1
Written by Anna Durand
Narrated by Shane East and Vanessa Edwin

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book, from Anna Durand’s wonderful writing style to the storylines and characters she created to Shane East & Vanessa Edwin’s fabulous narration. The interesting storylines grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters are likable and easy to relate to. I adored Elena Linwood, she is working as a paralegal for the woman she idolized, Attorney Raisa Volkov. She is not an easy person to work for but she loves the job. After a rough day she looks to unwind and find herself someone to hook up with, she heads to the hotel bar near her job. When she is approached and propositioned by a gorgeous man with a British accent she goes for it, the two head up to his room, unable to keep their hands off of each other their elevator ride turns into a hot and steamy one. But the elevator ride was as far as it went, Elena went on her way and Chance went his. Chance Dixon is in town doing his ex-wife, Raisa, a favor, she needed an attorney to help with cases. When he arrives in the office he is surprised to see Elena and he is thrilled when Raisa assigns her to work with him. Elena is not happy with her circumstances, not only that she had a fling with her bosses ex but now she has to work with him too. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, but Elena does not want to risk her job or her reputation and then Raisa complicates things even further. I loved how everything plays out in the book, the story is fast paced and there is never a dull moment with plenty of drama, a bit of angst, some heartfelt moments and some hot romance. Anna Durand fit an impressive amount of story into her novella and I enjoyed every word of it. Thank you!

I listened to the Audiobook edition, Shane East and Vanessa Edwin are talented narrators and voice artists. They do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧

Lovely high speed romance story. But when you know you know, right?
Chance and Elena fall head over heels in love but have to fight against the stuborness of Chance's ex-wife.
The story is greatly written, more on the steamy side, that's for sure but easy to read and ending with HEA.
If you love something short in between along and heavy books this one is just perfect to so so.

You know it's going to be a good book when you are highlighting lines in the first chapter and hitting rewind just to hear Vanessa Edwin say "...silky British accent and a husky voice that makes me wanna crawl onto his lap..." YES!!!!! Anna Durand knows what to write and who to hire to narrate such fabulous lines. Vanessa absolutely captivated me as Elena as the character's unlucky streak in life just keeps on rolling. I wasn't expecting some of the twists that Ms Durand gave to this cute plot with adorable characters. And oh the yummy things that Shane East gets to say to us as Chance made sure I would be putting this on the "Need A Happy Repeat Listen" pile for the future. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the next books in the Hot Brits series!

Anna Durand creates unique and endearing characters, put into hilarious stories ending with HEA.

At first, I had a hard time relating to a woman who would have sex in an elevator with a man she just met, but she grew on me. Elena Linwood, born on Friday the 13th, believes herself cursed. She had been accepted to Law School, but couldn't go because her mother had just died from cancer and she was left with debts and her younger brother, Kyle, to take care of. But aside from being smart, she has a positive attitude and ends up in NYC, sharing an apartment with Kyle, who is now in college and working as a paralegal for a Raisa Volkov, a woman who she both admires and fears. After only 2 days at the job, she is drained, depressed and in need of booze, which is how she ends up in a hotel bar and meets Brit, Chance Dixon and ultimately in said elevator. But Chance ends up being her boss's ex, who is in town temporarily to fill in for an attorney who quit abruptly. Raisa had been unfaithful, the reason for the divorce, but wants Chance back. Chance is only interested in Elena. You know where this is going to go, but it is such a delight to read, because of the characters and fun banter. And since Chance has a number of brothers, we get a glimpse of the men who will appear in the rest of the series.

I read an ARC from the author. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

This was a pretty good novella and really enjoyable for how short it is. I liked both the hero and heroine and thought they had decent chemistry and it had none of the tropes that usually annoy me. Even the ex wife isn't portrayed as a one note villain and is given some character. There's a moment when the heroine walks in on the ex throwing herself onto the hero and kissing him and she runs away but not because she got the wrong end of the stick, but because she didn't want her boss to see her there. Amen for adults who use their rational brain.

The only negative thing I can say about this book is a nit-pick with the way the author uses British slang. She clearly did some research but I don't think she consulted someone who was actually British because there were times the slang wasn't used right or in the right context or were just overused. I also just feel like a guy from England who had been living in the states for at least a decade wouldn't ask an American for a cuppa because he would have figured out that they would have no idea what he's on about. I think the author wanted to show off her research to be honest. Also, no Brit would use the microwave to warm up water for tea because it's wrong on every level and gross.

I really liked this story. The one-night stand that becomes more due to instant attraction. Elana and Chance’s chemistry is hot right from the start. I enjoyed the two main characters and their interactions. It’s one of those reads that takes you along for the ride and provides you with laughs. It’s not a book that I would read for character development or growth, but more just for a good time. The author also included two chapters at the end of the book in the opposite character’s viewpoint, which was interesting to read.

I understood the role of their boss in the story but wasn’t impressed with how quickly she had her epiphany – it didn’t feel realistic and felt too rushed. Especially since she was the main struggle that was in the way of the romance both directly and indirectly.

I listened to this book on audio and highly recommend that you do so as well (especially if you don’t have a good imagination to do the hero’s voice with a British accent – I sure can’t). It added to the experience to hear the male narrator speaking with a British accent. Both narrators were enjoyable and changed their voices enough that you could distinguish when they were speaking for another character.

Another one bites the dust, well in a good way. i listened to this book and audio books still count as book, i get more reading done that way, i drive alot for work.
ANYWAYS
This book was cute and short, at least it felt like it when i was listening to it. Elena has sex with a guy in an elevator, personally not something i would do. then ends up working for him. cliché but you know its a cute book. she loves his accent cause its British, personally i havent been swooned by one so i wouldnt know what that sounds like it. its a good story as a guy who is over his ex wife who cheated on his repeatedly and realized too late that she wanted him back. it was quick to the point, they shagged alot. im still gonna listen to the other books and i bought all three of them. curious to see what happens when one of the brothers who lives in london moves to New york, which he took over Elenas apartment.
also do people really get married that fast? like 3 months? is that normal. i guess when you are an attorney money really isnt an issue. geez cant we all find our true love who happens to have a huge bank account.

Hot, humorous and interesting

Elena is a paralegal who just started a new job for a famous female divorce lawyer who recently just got divorced herself. Needless to say that lends to the lawyer being extremely moody demanding and rude. Elena seeks a reprieve after work and heads across the street to the hotel bar. She encounters a very handsome British man named Chance. His attraction to her is off the charts and he invites her back to his room. He gets her into the elevator and has sex with her on the elevator because he feels so intensely attracted to her. Unfortunately just after their encounter on the elevator he answers his phone. She gets off the elevator annoyed by his decision to take the call. They have many challenges and turtles to overcome which leads them in a few different directions. The two main characters are strong, clever, funny and smart.
Their chemistry sizzles and their ethics excellent. Their journey to each other is heartwarming, clever and creative. I really enjoyed their story.

I found this book for free on Amazon via Freebooksy; this is my honest review.
-Good balance of everything all through the story. Fun, despair, lust, love, romance, etc. No drama on Elena's part when she saw Raisa kiss Chance. Thank you Ms. Durand!
-I didn't know what to make of Raisa, Elena's boss and Chance's ex-wife. Seemed a bit overboard. Yes she has feelings and all that but she's not to make them appear when it's inconvenient or embarrassing, especially at work where she's the bossy boss.
-There are some good word of play on Chance's name and they were funny.
-LOL moments: Every time Chance and Elena think there's no one around when they are in the elevators. Did you ever think there's no camera??? Someone is watching the action in there...
-There are a few instances when there's talk about harems, checking out who's the best lover, etc. and I thought it was of poor taste since Raisa was not faithful. It was not funny at all.

This story is a very quick read. It is a little over the top in terms of unbelievable scenarios, but, hey, it’s a work of fiction so just leave your reality checker at the door. If you do that, this book is good fun. Elena is a paralegal who just got a job working for her career idol, Raisa. It turns out Raisa is a horrible boss. Blowing off steam, Elena hooks up briefly – and intimately – with a stranger who ends up complicating her life in ways she never imagined. Chance seems like a good guy, but I don’t feel that I learned very much about him aside from his relationship history with Raisa

For me, the story moved too fast to let me develop any kind of connection with any of the characters. It’s well written, with some smart dialogue and witty moments. But it’s like all frosting and no cupcake, if you understand what I mean. Not my favorite book by this author, but not bad either, and I will definitely read the next in the series.

(audiobook+ebook) Don’t get me wrong, I liked it. But don’t expect deep character development or complicated plot. If you’re here for the sexy, though, you’ll get what you want: short, steamy story with a side of feelings.

The drama was at minimum level, but not absent completely. It isn’t pure erotica and you don’t get bored by a dull story.

Due to the shortness of the book, it was lightning fast instalove–which is a bit too fast for me. But even in those circumstances, it was a slow burn, since after their first encounter, Elena refuses to have a relationship with Chance. Talk about contradiction!

Quickie

- Series: Hot brits #1 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #office romance #forbidden romance #instalove #one night stand
- Triggers: some abuse from a boss
- Main couple: Elena Linwood & Chance Dixon
- Hotness: 5/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + deliciously sexy short read
- – too instalove/instalust for me

This steamy hot romance starts off with a bang (pun intended) and never lets up. Add together instant attraction, a scheming ex-wife, a ban on co-worker extra-curricular involvement, a boss from hell who also happens to be the ex-wife, and the difficulty of a navigating a superior/subordinate on-the-job relationship and you have the makings of a fun romp in the Big Apple. Elena and Chance are meant for each other, but ex-wife Raisa is hell-bent on getting Chance back. Since both Chance and Elena work for her, she demands that Elena help her out, creating a triangle with one mismatched leg and oceans of misunderstanding. Well-written and plotted, with people you'll probably recognize from real life, the story centers on the three main characters and moves swiftly and inexorably to the conclusion. There's never any real doubt as to the HEA, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. An excellent start to a 4-book series. You'll want to read them all. Highly recommended.

Don't miss this Chance!

After a quickie meet-cute, Elena and Chance are awkwardly paired up at the office. She's a brand-new paralegal/assistant, and he's the ex-husband of her boss, brought in on a temporary basis to fill in for an attorney who left so abruptly his caseload needed immediate attention. Raisa, the boss/ex-wife, is hoping to maneuver Chance into a reconciliation and enlists Elena to help.

Needless to say, hilarity and steamy hot interludes ensue, leading to a delightful HEA that includes a look at one of the characters in the next book in the series.

I love this author's writing style, how she brings so much heart to the characters. Chance's devotion to Elena, even when she's trying to keep things professional, was swoon-worthy from the start. I loved the chemistry these two had, and was rooting for them right from the start. There's a lot of fun packed into this enticing romance. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Chance and Elena met in a bar, had a seriously hot encounter in an elevator, and as they were progressing to a night of more hot encounters, Chance gets a call and has to leave. Disappointed at not having more time with her British hookup, Elena goes on about her life. When she sees Chance in her boss’ office, they’re both caught by surprise. Turns out Chance is Elena’s boss’ ex-husband, and she enlists Elena to help her get him back.

I loved how Chance and Elena met, and as they get to know each other both professionally and personally, their feelings grow. There are a few twists, and some really hot scenes between Chance and Elena.

Shane East and Vanessa Edwin did a wonderful job narrating. This is my book by Anna Durand. I really enjoyed it, and can’t wait to get to the next one in this series.

Chance was so completely charming from the very beginning, it is no wonder it would be nearly impossible for Elena to resist him in spite of finding out he was her boss’s ex-wife that wanted him back. He was unapologetic about his attraction for Elena. He described her as having a light that no one else had.

Elena is a top notch paralegal and met Chance before he became her boss. She is sensual, playful and loving and does try to keep it professional - they both do - but sometimes the right thing interferes with something better.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book that had a good mix of light moments, relationship drama and passionate nights. I look forward to the next book which I am going to guess is about Chance’s brother, Reese.

This is my first Anna Durand book. I read/listen to it because I'm a fan of Shane East and Vanessa Edwin.
The story is short, which makes developing the characters a challenge for the author. However, it still very entertaining.
The romance story started with a one-night stand between Elena Linwood, who considered herself as "very unlucky" in both life and love, and Chance Dixon, a handsome Brit who she later found out was her boss' ex-husband and who became her boss. Now, that makes for sticky situations, and the fun rolled around from there.

The narration was excellent. Kudos for Shane East and Vanessa Edwin.

My Ratings:
Performance: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love it!
Story: ⭐⭐⭐ It was okay
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I like it

*Audiobook Review*

One deliciously sexy insta-love treat.

This was my first book by Anna Durand which I really enjoyed. It´s a “Chance” meet that turns into more, a short fun sexy steamy love story with a bit of drama but also giving you all the good feel moments in the end. Entertaining and easy on the ears 😉

Yes, it's short but sometimes it depends on the quality not the quantity and in my opinion, this is a very well written novella that left me with a smile on my face.

Love the sizzling chemistry and insta-attraction between the two main characters which are deliciously voiced by one of my favourite pairings in audio, Vanessa Edwin and Shane East. I just love Vanessa´s male voice, it gives me goosebumps and I always love listening to Mr East.
