It's not the book, it's my reaction to this book. It's interesting and well written but I just can't. I think I have too much Tr*mp/Qanon PTSD. The conspiracy theories spouted in this book are just too close the a lot of the stuff those wack-a-doos actually believe that it is bugging me away to much for me to continue.

Whoa a really cool sci-fi read. Kindle Unlimited. I decided to read this, since a sequel has come out, now that I also want to read.

You've got a former army ranger Captain of special ops, in Crystal aka Crys, who becomes a bodyguard to potential POTUS member Abigail, and a sizzling attraction between them. But more than that is the conspiracy theories surrounding the way of the world and how it's being ran, and other beings who have their own interests in planet Earth.

It's slow to bloom the full ideas happening, and yet still incredibly exciting and suspenseful. I was on the edge of my seat, especially towards the end, and I'm really looking forward to the next installment!

If you like sci-fi, conspiracies, competent army chicks, and a highly principled politician who is motivated by truth and justice - then I think you'll enjoy this story! Highly Recommend!

Described hot looking special forces Captain(rtd) and a soon to be POTUS meet and take on us a ride of campaign trails, assassination attempts and to cap it off, ETs are in town...
It certainly was an entertaining read, I sure wasn't expecting ETs but somehow the author did a good job engineering a feeling of human against the ET emotions and all the human unification thing.

An entertaining read!

An exciting adventure of working to save humankind led by a strong intelligent woman. Add a sexy female ex-Ranger bodyguard and a little romance. What more could you want? An entertaining read!

The first three quarters of this book is like the lacroix of science fiction, basically a typical bodyguard romance with a little hint of conspiracy theory. Then it goes FULL X FILES for the last quarter. The romance is like that too, it's flirty looks and then all of a sudden they're deeply in love. I felt like I missed part of the book. I do like a big muscley military lesbian but there's not a lot else to recommend this one. Even the aliens plot line is pretty standard. I don't know why I even finished it except I kept hoping for better and then I was almost done anyway.

This is a truly terrible book. Nothing in this story works. So disappointed because the author's other books are not bad at all. This one is horrid. A US Presidential candidate needs a body guard. The sexy ex-soldier who takes the job becomes her lover. In the mean time, the candidate reveals a grand conspiracy involving an alien invasion by a group or species referred to simply as "the Red Eyes." An assassinated Senator is brought back to life, and when the ex-soldier body guard is killed trying to protect the candidate she is brought back to life also. Finally, in the Epilogue, the candidate asks the body guard how it feels to be captain of her own starship. Then it's "let's go kick some intergalactic ass. Love you, babe." Lastly, if you are going to write characters who are born and bred in the United States, best not to have them use expressions and vernacular from "down under." I think the author is Australian. Sloppy. Ugh. Terrible.

Wow. What else can I say but a huge WOW.
Yup, I read the what the book was about but never in a million years I thought I was going to find this story. The beginning was a little bit slow for my taste but once the action started, crazy stuff kept me reading until I was done. The first from the author for me but not the last

This was a fast paced adventurous scifi read. I liked both main characters almost immediately and found their relationship quite refreshing. No angst, just an easy acceptance of mutual attraction. It was the one stable thing in a world falling apart. There is plenty of action here too and a mixture of government secrets that are built in nicely. I got through this in an evening as I simply wanted to keep reading. A good scifi read.

Beautiful with a Bad Attitude

I whole heartedly enjoyed this book. I’m not a big sci-fi fan but this book has an important message for our society today. We don’t even know what being human really means because we have been told over and over what human should be and we believe. A must read for readers questioning their place in the world. Bravo !

Another Great Book!

What a great book. It kept me turning the pages. The characters were great and made you fall in love with them. What a huge twist at the end that I never saw coming (A couple actually). Great job! You'll have to read it to see what I'm talking about. You won't be disappointed!

This book actually reads fairly well, but the tin-foil-crowd nature of the story drags its star rating down to 2½ for me. The whole way through the story, the nature of the enemy was hidden except to the extent that they were made to be a boogeyman, and then at the end in a deus ex machina, a previously dead character comes to the rescue with an incredibly super-advanced starship, killing all the troublesome aliens at the rescue point and taking our heroines to space, saving the “dead” main character. Because of the lead up to the ending, the feeling I had was the story couldn’t muster as “real” and the finale was “fake” or unbelievable.

As far as lesbian characters, the two FMC’s both seemed to have a real relationship, but the sexy actions were mostly sweet or fade to black in the story, so not much steam.

So I got to read this book through Amazon's wonderful kindle program without which I would not find a lot of books. I thought this book was great. It goes on my LBG shelf and it should probably be on the sci-fi shelf too but that would be a spoiler. Captain Thor is bodaciously butch, competently combative and looks out for her charge the passionate Abigail Christensen and the story leaves you hungry for more instalments of thier upcoming adventure together. The book starts off on your typical bodyguarding romantical premise then literally swings into leftfield and drops you into a fantastic sci-fi cubby hole experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will definitely recommend this and look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Whenever Natalie Debrabandere writes a new book it should be read. Her women are strong, somewhat broken, loyal, passionate and willing to give it all. Crystal and Abigail made a delightful pair. Their coupling was months down the road and the timeline didn't get bogged down in the daily details but happened through scene changes. Well written, quick paced and because I'm a fan I couldn't put it down until it was finished. This was definitely over the top. If there is a sequel I'll happily wait.

Above All, Human (Captain Thor Book 1)

Brilliant and awesome story, that flows from the beginning - middle to the end of the first book . Hopefully a great series cannot wait for book 2.
Captain Thor retired who is hired by Senator Abigai l who is hoping to become the next President of the U.S.A.. But an organisation called Global Network is trying to stop her.
Natalie Debrabandere yet again has written another number 1 book. She knows how to keep her fans enertained.
Highly recommend this plus 5*****Stars

Great cause, needs better characters

I devoured this book, supporting the cause and the action entailed. I also loved the IDEA of the characters but didn’t get enough of their backstories to understand what drove them, and there was no development of the MCs’ romantic relationship — one kiss, with little buildup, and wham!

I finished the book and feel, like its cause, it holds much potential; but I’m disappointed in its depth. Beyond checking each book’s synopsis, I doubt I’ll invest time in the series.

Saving Humanity

Representative Abigail Christiansen is running for President and her mission is planet wide. She is making powerful enemies and gaining in popularity. Captain Chrystal J. Thor, US Army Ranger (Retired) is very happy to be out of the business of war. When she is offered the job to be the close protection officer of the candidate she starts immediately on meeting. A sci-fi adventure and love story. Love the author.

Every time I read a book by Debrabandere I think "where do these ideas come from?" The stories never follow the typical plot-line. They are action packed.

spoiler:

I found the epilogue to be particularly timely as I read this during month 3 of quarantine and protests. Eerily so.

Not what I expected it was better

I wasn't sure of lesbian science fiction with aliens. The book had great pacing and everything fell in place. When I started the book I wasn't expecting aliens but everything built up to that and it seemed well thought out. This is one heck of a great read. Book 2 is my next read.

Amazing

Another amazing story from Natalie. I love that both Abigail and Crystal are fearce strong minded women and as far as I am concerned including a sexy hard as nails ex soldier is always a winner. Couldn't put it down, a brilliant sci fi love story.

Lesfic/syfy

I absolutely loved it. The storyline, the characters, I hope for a sequel! I feel like there is so much more to be told. It would be cool if Crys, and, Abigail meet/join the others from the human resistance from Natalie's other books.

Liked the Story

I enjoyed the twists and turns within the plot. The characters' support of the new world building was engaging. Enough support to ease the reader into belief of the possibility.

Sci Fi and romance

Off to save humanity Capt Crystal Thor and Representative Abigail heat up the Earth as they fight off the aliens. While I enjoyed the story, for myself it could have more science fiction elements.

conspiracies abound

This was a fairly fast paced thriller, with a small touch of romance on the side. Main characters were interesting, with quite good chemistry. Looking forward to the next book.

Above all, human is a science fiction feast with a side of heart melting romance. Conspiracies and intrigue kept me guessing, while the spark between the main characters kept me hoping for a happy-ever-after.
