Let My Daughter Go

Rate this book
Rogan Sneed is spending life in prison for the mass shooting he committed at Pioneer Square in Portland, Oregon. The copycat shooter who attempted a similar attack on the anniversary of the event is dead. Time has passed. Wounds are healing.

But then a blip on the screen.

A teenage girl is kidnapped in Portland. Her diary says there may still be someone out there who helped plan the original attack that killed 21 innocent people.

A local plumber is a person of interest in the girl’s disappearance, but Portland PD Detective Wayne Deetz believes something much more catastrophic is simmering beneath the surface.

Close to retirement and still struggling to tame the demons of his anxiety, Deetz is forced to explore the chilling underworld to which he vowed he’d never return.

But when a daughter's life is at stake, vows are broken—and demons are crushed.

Creston Mapes grew up in northeast Ohio, where he has fond memories of living with his family of five in the upstairs portion of his dad’s early American furniture store - The Weathervane Shop. Creston was not a good student, but the one natural talent he possessed was writing.

He set type by hand and cranked out his own neighborhood newspaper as a kid, then went on to graduate with a degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University. Creston was a newspaper reporter and photographer in Ohio and Florida, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for a job as a creative copywriter.

Creston served for a stint as a creative director, but quickly learned he was not cut out for management. He went out on his own as a freelance writer in 1991 and, over the next 30 years, did work for Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola, The Weather Channel, Oracle, ABC-TV, TNT Sports, colleges and universities, ad agencies, and more. He’s ghost-written more than ten non-fiction books.

Creston has penned many contemporary thrillers, achieved Amazon Bestseller status multiple times, and had one of his novels (Nobody) optioned as a major motion picture.

Creston married his fourth-grade sweetheart, Patty, and they have four amazing adult children. Creston loves his part-time job as an usher at local venues where he gets to see all the latest-greatest concerts and sporting events. He enjoys reading, fishing, thrifting, bocci, painting, bowling, pickleball, time with his family, and dates with his wife.

I found the first book in this series excellent, so was delighted to get my hands on this one. However, I found it a bit disappointing. It seems that good writing and character development were sacrificed for the sake of speed and suspense. Too many characters going too many places too fast (both literally and metaphorically) to suit me...but then again, what can I say? It's a suspense novel, after all.

Wow, could not put this book down. Intense, heart stopping, constant action. My favorite character, hands down, was Leena. Read the book to find out why! Oh and the best part, Jesus was with them all the way. I love Christian fiction. Entertaining and uplifting and points us to Him.

Compelling and suspenseful. There is one major scene where I am not convinced Deetz acted in a manner fitting with being an officer with 34 years on the force in a big city. All evidence would have been invalid for proscuting the case and charges could/would have been brought against him and his sons for their actions. I will grant poetic license since he was desperate to find his missing daughter with time ticking away.
Mechanically, the book could do with some polishing. The pagination and format of the book seemed a little amateurish and there were some errors sprinkled throughout. (For example, one character named Betty and on the next page she was Becky. One instance where personal was used in place of personnel. That kind of thing.)
But, the writing was great! Enjoyable read with good characterization and plot and some Christian content. I did not have any problem with reading this book without having read the first in the series.

Just amazing! This is the first book I've read by this author, but I will definitely be looking for other novels. This one kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. This is truly an exciting reading experience.. The narrator is also amazing. Happy reading and listening!

Proceed with Caution

This story grabbed me from the very beginning and kept me turning pages as fast as possible. It tells the story from several views. In this case, the eighteen year old girl, daughter of a police officer who the young woman believes has wronged her, goes off the deep end because of her bad judgment with the young kid she talked into helping her commit crimes. Willow doesn't like to get her hands dirty. The story gets complicated, but never boring. It's all tied together well. Great author! Not a book to miss if you like thrillers.

Wowzaa - I couldn’t put this book down!

I just finished reading the book “Let My Daughter Go” and enjoyed turning every page in my kindle app. It was a fast paced thriller. The only complaint I have is that I wish the story was longer and more detailed in the end- I happily would have read another 10 chapters or so! I connected to each character and would like to read more from this author.

This second book in the series is even better than the first one. Deetz and Tyson are hero’s of the everyday sort! Very suspenseful and entertaining. I couldn’t put it down! I’m looking forward to the next one!

Mapes once again delivers everything his most dedicated disciples have come to expect — inspiring heroes and despicable villains, plenty of action and non-stop tension — all crammed into a timely, relevant story and glossed with his signature-style message of faith. BRAVO!

Kidnapping in Portland -Exciting Christian Thriller
This is the second book of a series that needs to be read in order as the events build upon each other. This story is faith-filled as both victims and families lean on Him to get them through the darkness. The plot is very good with very little turning out how the reader would guess. While the story kept me on the edge of my seat, it was nothing that would cause nightmares. There is no swearing, no sex, or gore. Even the blood was kept to a minimum. I am now going to read book 3!

This story has all the elements a lover of mysteries looks for. There are enough bad guys to go around, plenty of innocents, and the good guys trying to maintain law and order. The author creates tension for everyone and our hero has enough to almost do him in. It is well written and suspenseful.

Sequel to Signs of Life introduces Leena, Wayne Deetz' daughter. Another page turner & riveting suspense! Kelsey Stonegate is kidnapped & Deetz is on the case. One of the captors has ties to Rogan Sneed from the first book. Leena's character is worth the whole book!

Mr. Mapes I am not happy that I have to get up for work in less than 2 hours. However, I do have to thank you for a tense ride that I just couldn’t quit until it was done. After book 2 in this series I can definitely say I am a fan. Bring on the next book!

Fast-paced, especially the second half. This one was saved by the sections written in Leena's POV. Great character.

Definitely a Christian book. The scenarios were simplistic to some degree and not extremely realistic but I enjoyed the book.

Diversity, inclusion and thrilling adventure

This one was teeming with suspense. It kept me flipping to the next page in anticipation. But more than that it made me confront my own biases regarding differently abled individuals. God speaks through anyone if we only open our👂🏾 👀 and hearts 💕

Thrilling continuation of "Signs of Life." Who would have thought there would be a mastermind behind the mastermind of the terror attack from the first book? I loved the character development in this story, from Deetz's daughter, Leena, to the evil mastermind and her sidekick. By the end of the book, I almost felt sorry for the mastermind. But not quite. On the edge of my seat the whole time.

Another good read

I’ve only recently became aware of Creston Mapes but he has fast become one of my favorite authors. Some of his stories are a bit fetched but not so much to make the eyes role.

The Signs of Life of series competes well with the Crittendon Files as two series I’ve recently been enjoying. The protagonist is Signs of Life is Wayne Deetzen a cop who is nearing retirement but has a couple of tough cases of recent. He is a family man, that is rare in many series today, most are drunks, guys who got kicked off the force or have some other pitiful history, but not Deetz. Looking for ward to number three in the Signs of Life series.

Hot, hot, hot!

Could not stop reading this story! Read it in less than a day. Carried over from book 1, the story unfolded in such a rapid pace, I couldn’t set it down. Intense drama and police work, so worth the read. I’m not giving any of it away. Enjoy!

I am currently "binge reading" books by Creston Mapes. They deal with some sensitive subjects, but aren't quite a scary because they are Christian fiction. I am loving this "signs of life" series even though it is quite deep and deals with some tough subjects.
