Dirty Blood #4

Blood Rule

Rate this book
Forty-six. That’s how many hybrids survived the Hunter attack in the woods after I revived them with an injection of my blood. That’s how many followed me home to Frederick Falls. And that’s how many were now mentally linked to me through a blood bond.

Two days. Three valium. Fourteen hours of sleep.

That’s what it took to realize I wasn’t losing my mind as a result of the noise in my own head.

Sixteen.

That’s how many days have passed since I almost killed Alex. That’s how many days I’ve sat by his bedside, waiting for him to wake up. To ease the guilt, to understand his betrayal, to remember the exact shade of brown in his eyes.

Zero.

That’s my chances of skating by with Gordon Steppe and the Hunter Council. They want me for questioning. I’m afraid what’ll happen if I give them answers.

Four stars: Shocking new developments leading up to another brutal cliffhanger!

Tara these days finds herself hiding out in the woods, leading her new pack of hybrid wolves. Forty-six wolves survived the attack, and now are bonded to Tara thanks to her healing blood transfusion. Tara is trying to grapple with her new werewolf abilities and her status as the alpha of the pack. If that isn't enough, she is now wanted for questioning by CHAS, the hunter committee. Gordon Steppe, the leader of CHAS is out to eliminate all werewolves, regardless of the treaty, and Tara and Wes have become his number one targets. Can Tara save her own hide as well as her packs'?

What I Liked:
*Ms. Hildenbrand's Dirty Blood Series continues to impress me with its originality, likable characters and exciting story line. I am loving how far this series has come and the new direction it is taking. If you are looking for an entertaining and entertaining werewolf series that is original and thrilling, definitely check out the Dirty Blood Series.
*I am enjoying Tara's transformation. When I first met Tara back in book one, she was an ordinary girl, until the night she was attacked by a werewolf in a dark alley. Tara then learned that she was actually a Hunter, a human who hunts and kills werewolves, but there is so much more to it. Tara is a child of mixed heritage, her mother is a Hunter and her father was a werewolf. Long story short, Tara has come a long way. In this latest installment, she is trying to adjust to here werewolf side while leading a whole pack of hybrid wolves that are prone to turning rabid. Tara has been forced to make some hard decisions while fighting desperately for those she loves. I am happy for the most part with her growth, and most interested to see where she goes from here.
*The romance, while complicated, seems to be settling out and the love triangle appears to be decided. I hope that Tara will stick with her decision because I am tired of her being wishy washy. No more love triangle innuendos, please.
Wes continues to be awesome. I am growing more and more fond of him with each book. I appreciate how he is learning to give Tara space, and how he is putting aside his jealousies. I always love how he comes to the rescue. Wes is terrific.
*Aside from Wes and Tara, there is a solid, full cast of secondary characters whom I am enjoying getting to know. I love the new roles that George and Angela have taken on, and I am liking the addition of the new hybrid pack members especially Chris.
*I appreciate that Ms. Hildenbrand takes the time to provide plenty of recap for those of us who suffer from amnesia between books. The refreshers are enough to jog your memory but they don't mire down the story.
*I love the strong focus on family and friendship in this series.
*The overall story continues to evolve and become more complex. There are several new complications introduced in this one, I won't go into them as I don't want to give spoilers, but I will say this, things are looking pretty grim for the werewolf folks. I love how Ms. Hildenbrand continues to think out of the box and how unique her ideas on werewolves are. If you are a fan of werewolves and you crave something different, try this series.
And The Not So Much:
*After all the epic developments in book three, Blood Bond, I was prepared for more thrills and excitement, but this one didn't quite deliver. Mostly because it was shorter, and after the initial conflict in the first portion, the second half of the book is mainly quiet without a lot happening until the dramatic conclusion which ends on a cliffhanger. Still there are some major shocking developments.
*Another cliffhanger. Seriously, Ms. Hildenbrand, you are killing us with the cliffhangers. This one especially ends on a dire note with the fate of some of the main players hanging in the balance. I am glad I procrastinated to read this one because the fifth book is due out in December.
*As much as I have enjoyed Tara's growth, I didn't like that she got a bit wishy washy in the latter half of this book, and I especially didn't like some of her rash decisions. She needs to make a firm decision between Wes and Alex, she says one thing, but I am not convinced she is firm in her choice. I hope that in the next book all hints of the love triangle are gone and that Tara will make more rational choices, ones not based on emotion.

Blood Bound is another solid book in the Dirty Blood Series. I am liking the new developments and I am curious to see how the story will evolve from here. I continue to appreciate the creativity and originality of this series, especially when it comes to werewolves and hunters. If you are a fan of the furry creatures, I suggest you check out this series.

Favorite Quotations:
"Even if I don't ever step foot here again, I'm already home. You are where my heart is."
"I thought he might also have missed the memo on not wearing socks with sandals but I didn't say so."

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.

Honestly this was a lot of nothing but the writing in these books just keeps getting better and I love the characters so it didn’t feel boring. I think this was just kind of setting up the plot for the final book in the series, and I can’t wait! 4/5 ⭐️

NA ReviewMy Thoughts
Note: Blood Rule is the Fourth book in the Dirty Blood Series. There will be series spoilers in this review (not spoilers from this book) You can find out more about the series, Dirty Blood HERE
There are some series that you can write spoiler free reviews for and some series that are so action packed, and that you must read in order that it is nearly impossible to write reviews of the later books without giving anything away from earlier books, so I am going to make it easy for you. These first two paragraphs will tell new readers everything you need to know about why you should read this series and the following couple of paragraphs are for people that have started the series already.

If you have not read the Dirty Blood series you are completely missing out. Tara is a kick butt heroine who is called a dirty blood because she is part werewolf hunter and part werewolf. You must read the books in order because there are so many things that go on in each book and they each pick up right where the other one left off. I recommend binge reading them all. They are that good. There is a love triangle and I am now firmly on one side (even if I fear it may be the losing side.) but both guys are wonderful and I give my stamp of approval on this as a love triangle done well. Heather Hildenbrand can write paranormal romance so well. Her characters, her action, her suspense is all spot on. All in all this series is one of my favorites. And I am petrified to read the 5th and final book because I don't want it to be over.

Ok if you are new to the series, you have been warned. There will not be spoilers from Blood Rule, the fourth book, but there will be mentions and spoilers from the previous books in the series. I can't find any way around that. Read on at your own risk. Blood Bound picks up right where the 3rd book left off. It took me a moment to get my bearings because Heather Hildenbrand has created such an immersive world with so many complex characters that it was a lot to be dropped back into after 1 year reading break between books. Tara has taken control of the pack of hybrids and she is having a tough time with them. I felt for her more in this book than any I have read yet, because it really seemed like the weight of the world was on her shoulders every single page.

Heather Hildenbrand tore my heart in shreds every time I had to watch Tara visit Alex in the hospital and he remained in his coma. It was too much, and I'm so not touching the love triangle aspect of the story because I just know I will give too much away. I like Wes. I like Alex. I like Alex more. That's all I'm saying. Like with the previous books, we get lots of answers and even more questions. I have no idea where Heather comes up with all the twists and turns and new layers of development, but she can write a book that will have you sitting so close to the edge of your seat, you will fall right off of it.

The fifth and final book in the Dirty Blood series just released, which is good because now you can read all the books one right after another. And trust me you will want to because they are beyond excellent and because they each have wicked cliffhangers. (this one included.) Here is a teaser from the fifth book, Broken Blood. I am sharing it because it features my wonderful Alex! Enjoy...and read this series!

hmm... So I've been loving this series but I must say I was a little bit disappointment in this one. The plot was still great, the characters amazing, but a few things bugged me. Firstly, that it was so short. Seemed like the book was just really starting when it ended with a cliffhanger. Second, Tara just seemed panicked and useless this whole book. Everyones listening to her but she can't do anything right. I think Astor nails it when he says "your jock friend is better at this than you are." And he totally is, how come George can figure out all this bond stuff in his mind but Tara is so lost. Shes just weak, and I can't stand a weak useless heroine. Anyway I guess I'm still holding out hope for Tara cause I will be waiting for the next book.

We left off in book 3 were Tara finds out about Miles plan. HYBRIDS

She finds Astor to help with George and find a cure and/or save his life in some way. Miles told her that her blood was the key to saving him. But since Miles was crazy she is hesitant to believe him and risk George’s life.

Once Tara figures out that her blood holds a lot of power and secrets she has to make some sacrifices for the Hybrids. The blood bond threatens to overwhelm Tara and she needs to figure out how to dial it up or down, some kind of control. She is linked to all of them. She felt the pain and loss of all the hybrids killed in the Hunter attack lead by Alex and Kane.

After biting Alex he is now in a coma fighting for his life. Now Tara must wait to find the answers to his betrayal and to ease her guilt of almost killing a close and trusted friend.

Gordon Steppe (Head of CHAS) is on a WOLF HUNT. He wants them all dead and now has the evidence to eradicate all werewolves from existence. Anyone not with them is fair game. Even if they have done no harm.

He wants Tara for “questioning” she knows she will never leave breathing and now THE CAUSE members and anything with fur is in danger. They must run for survival. From everything and everyone. No one outside of The Cause can be trusted. And you must remember everything is a trap.

This story leaves you with another cliffhanger and you want to dive right into Book #5. It leaves you with questions. What is going on with Alex? How will Alex play into the next part of the story? Will Tara and him share a blood bond? Will this particular part of the bond bother Wes? Can Tara save her pack from Gordon? Can Gordon be stopped? Can Wes’s name be cleared? Which side will win in the end and how many lives will be lost with that win?

Dammit! Another cliffhanger. I don't feel like this book answered any questions, it just created more.
Tara sure has stubborn end her ass into quite the dilemma ... Now she doesn't have her safety net there to save her. Everyone is on the run and hiding from Superprick Steppe and to ensure their safety they had to split up. Unfortunately for Tara her group did not include her normal go-to people like Jack, Fee, Vera & her grandma. She has to figure out if she truly is the leader everyone thinks she is or if she is going to chose the other path & her eventual death.

Honestly, this book took awhile to get going for me & then seemed to stall out on the whole bond thing. I felt like more questions could've been answered if she would've just quit grousing about the lack of bond issue. I don't know. It just didn't do it for me like the other books did.

I was given a complimentary copy by author Heather Hildenbrand for an honest review. This is book 4 of The Dirty Blood series by the author.

It seems like everything is coming crashing down on Tara and her group. Tara just can't seem to get a step ahead of anything as more things happen to her and the group

I did not think that the story could get any better or get more action but it did and WOW. I thought I enjoyed the other books but this shoots the other books out of the water.

This book is for any paranormal romance reader who likes action and drama in their read. This book starts where book 3 ends so it is best to read the books in order.

This story continues to keep me on my toes and wondering what could possibly happen next. And when I think I might know, a surprise is thrown into the mix I never would have expected.

As Tara finds her place concerning the hybrids with the help of her friends, an entirely new world opens up to her. She discovers what it's like to be a leader and how huge the part is that her wolf plays in all of it. After the tragedy that ended the last book, Tara is left picking up the pieces and trying to overcome her need to take the blame for all of it. A new villain is revealed, and a more dangerous plot comes to light as we move through this story. And throughout the story, Tara continues to grow and come into herself as human, wolf, and leader. But as with all good stories, not all is as it seems. And just when she thinks she has the upper hand, the cards are flipped to reveal how vulnerable she truly is.

I felt myself so drawn the to characters in the story. The more the author wrote, the more I each of them opened, showing new and different facets and helping me to see the importance of even the smallest of parts. This is a well-woven tale of not only the paranormal but the constant changing relationships between adversaries and friends. I've already started the 5th book in the series because I can hardly wait to see where she takes these characters next.

After taking a really long break between book 3 and book 4, I dove back in, determined to finish this series via audiobook. Man, this is tough.

We spend the entire book in Tara’s head, and she is going through a lot. I get it. She’s got a lot of voices in her head from her dysfunctional pack of hybrids. She’s also got a love triangle plaguing her. Oh, and let’s not forget – SHE MAKES THE WORST DECISIONS EVER. Really. Maybe I should have accepted it as typical teenager behavior but it was infuriating most of the time. I definitely need to recalibrate my tolerance for nonsense if I want to continue with this series.

So, back to where we are in the larger plot: Gordon Steppe is the leader of the Hunter Council and he’s moving all the pieces around like a chess game. Unfortunately nobody really sees the larger picture and is only trying to stay out of his way. All of that changes when he forces their hands, running away with everything she had. The end of this book is a cliffhanger, too, so you should be warned going in. Tara is clearly on a larger journey that is not wrapped up here. I’m hoping for some good resolution (especially of the love triangle variety) by the end of the series.

Blood Rule Review on K-Books

The Dirty Blood series is one I started so long ago, back when I first started blogging. It’s a beautiful shifter romance and I honestly don’t know why I didn’t finish the series back then. In a bid to catch up on my unfinished series, I finally picked Blood Rule up. This is the fourth book in the series, so there may be some slight spoilers for the previous books in the series.

I am so glad that I finally picked up Blood Rule. I forgot how completely addictive and fantastic this series is. I was immediately thrown back into this world of werewolves and hybrid wolves. This book is dark and dramatic, right from the start with Tara and Wes in danger, preparing for war and doing their best to save the hybrid wolves. Tara is coming to terms with being the alpha of these dangerous wolves, and having a mental bond with all of them is taking its toll on her.

I enjoyed every moment of this book. It’s a very quick read sitting at only 226 pages. I pretty much devoured the entire book in one sitting. It is fast paced and action packed and it had me on the edge of my seat dying to know what was going to happen next. Heather Hildenbrand is such a fantastic author. She really sucks you in and has you ridiculously anxious about what is going to happen, in the best way possible. I read the earlier books in this series almost 10 years ago but somehow, without re-reading as well, Heather jogged my memory superbly and made me feel like it was only yesterday I was reading those books.

Blood Rule was a fantastic instalment in an incredible series. The ending of this book left me completely reeling and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next, in the final book of the series. While I won’t be jumping straight in (as I am not a binge reader), I will definitely be picking up the final book in this series within the next month or so. I can’t wait! If you love shifter romance novels then I highly recommend you to pick up this series.

The Excitement Just Escalates

Wow, this is a great 4th book. Packed full of action and excitment, twists and turns. It was extremely hard to put down. I flew through this book, I just wished it was longer. If you've read the other books, you won't be disappointed by this one. Some of the plot lines are resolved, just to have others pop up. It's kind of a cliff hanger, so you'll have to get the 5th book to find out what happens, but that doesn't bother me.

In this book, Steppe comes up a lot more, and you can see he is just plain evil and has his own disgusting agenda. Tara and Wes, along with the rest of The Cause goes into hiding. Tara makes a call, and chaos ensues. Astor makes an appearance again, and is his usual trippy self.

Overall, another good book in this series by Heather Hildenbrand. Her werewolves and hybrids are kind of cool. I do enjoy different authors take on popular genres. Looking forward to reading book five.

Traitors Abound

This series must be read in order. The first book is "Dirty Blood". The second book is "Cold Blood". The third book is "Blood Bond". This is the fourth book. I can't wait to read "Broken Blood"!

Having her own Pack of Hybrid Werewolves is hard enough to deal with, especially since they are constantly in her head. It makes things with her boyfriend Wes strained to say the least. At the best of times she feels stretched thin. Worrying about Alex in the hospital from her bite makes things worse. How will the Hunters react to her being a full on Hybrid? Will they disavow her now that she can change forms? Will she get kicked out of school again? Can she have any future with CHAS? Or is that door closed to her? Did she even want it to begin with? Why does it feel like there is another shoe to drop? Will Vera ever get better? Or is she going to die soon as everyone thinks?

Book 4. More enemies emerge for Tara and her group, and she’s dealing with all the new hybrids that she saved in the last book. The Hunter council is a joke of a council ruled by a crazy, racist person, Gordon Steppe. He’s a tyrant and most of the Hunters are idiotic and can’t think for themselves, so they don’t see how manipulative he is or they just don’t care. Still not connecting with the characters, but the story does entertain. Still not enough growth in Tara for me, but I appreciate she’s a fighter. Things are really looking bad for Tara and her group in this one; lots of danger. This one ends on a cliffhanger, so you’ll need to read the next one for the conclusion. This series isn’t quite my thing, but I do like the action and there’s some interesting ideas. I had the boxset with books 1-4, but not book 5, so I’m not quite rushing to read the last book yet, but I’ll keep an eye out for a good price on it. I don’t like to leave a series unfinished.

Tera has been through a LOT during this time. Her friend Alex is in the hospital after she bites him at the attack at Olive's place. Not sure if her helping him will save him or not he goes into a coma. Then Steppe causes a lot of trouble for The Cause and grandma is playing both sides only to have something major change. Also Vera falls very ill and not sure if she is going to live or not. Tera also loses her pack and that puts a lot of stress on her. Wes is accused of killing someone but he had nothing to do with it as Steppe was behind this as well. Read this series if you want a different view of wolves and hunters.

Tara is becoming an idiot!

I know I said in past reviews of this series that Tara acts stupid. However, by the end of this book I wanted to lock her up myself. They never should have told Tara who was coming up with the passwords to the safehouse. Or figured out a way for Cambria to stay away from the person who creates them. This bond that was created for 46 wolves is weird! I get that it sounds just like a.normal wolf bond. However when she picks up.sentences it's weird. Plus I feel bad for Wes always feeling like he is vying for Tara's affection. First there was George, Alex now 46/wolves he has to share her with. It's asking too much in a mate!

Of course Heather Hildenbrand has stunned me once again with this series. Just when you think the series couldn't get any better, it does! Plus she leaves you with another cliff hanger making you want more Tara, more Hybrids, more everything...

Tara really seems to find her true self even more that I would have thought in this book. She is a kick ass heroine who takes down anyone or anything that steps in her way.
This book was a really great read and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the Dirty Blood Series, Broken Blood.

I listened to this book on my audiobook and I was so happy with the content. I love supernatural books and movies mostly with werewolves involved. I loved this way this author told this entire story but the end has me on the edge of my seat because I now have to see if there is another book since I was able to read these 4 books in the series. I cant wait to see what will happen next if anything will. I don't want to spill what the story is about but it is a great read.

This is the 3rd book in the dirty blood series. And, like the other 2 books before it, it's beautifully written. This is an addicting YA Fantasy read.
The bond between Tara and Wes is swoonworthy.
This book features magic and werewolves. As a side feature; there is pack bonding made by the transfusion of blood. If you have a weak stomach for blood, I do not recommend this book to you then.

The start was ok but the romantic destiny-forced love was a terrible storyline. All the 'good' characters made bad decisions time after time and often the same bad decision never learning and leading to life-endangering events.
Unfortunately, I purchased the box set of 4 volumes ... for $4.99 July 2022 from Amazon.

the books are really good

The books are really good however I would say that the main character should have been older to shoulder such a responsibility. The story line though is very good and easy to follow.

And the book covers are freaky, the girl on the cover usually appears to not have the blacks of her eyes so it’s not very attracted.

OMG!!!!! Tara is the stupidest woman on the planet!! she refuses 2 think things through so she constantly fucks things up. I can't believe that bullshit she pulled in most of this book!! I'm disappointed cause a main character is supposed 2 have brains and not do stupid things constantly and rarely listening 2 others when she needs 2 fully listen. Book 5 better b better!!

I preferred the books before in this series. I found this book rather boring. This book was also the shortest out of the series and I recon if this book and maybe book 5 were as one book rather then two it may have worked better.

However I didn’t enjoy this really at all. I don’t know if I’ll read the last book

So far this is the “quickest” read of the series. It has a ton of action, angst, heart wrenching moments and lots of big feelings about what’s happening throughout.

We have moments that you want to go oh no and some where you want to be there to teach some characters lessons!

On to book 5 !
