Is this Shame kink? I think this is Shame Kink.
I've read and watched a lot of weird stuff in my time here on earth, -This book for example.
I kept wanting to quit, But I just had to figure out two things: What the ever lovin' hell is WRONG with this book, and Why is it giving me the creeps to the point of revulsion? I've seen incest porn, and this has all the ingredients of incest porn, but it's not quite, or not completely just incest porn.
Well there are a lot of layers to this yucky onion, so lets get peeling.
First off, I started this book thinking that the MC was a complete loser, Then I started thinking he was a total chump, but that's not exactly right. What the MC actually is a vehicle for shame, and he is sexually aroused by shame. As a quivering bucket of humiliation, this dude is a champion.
Yes he loses more fights than Worf on TNG, but only when losing will metaphorically pull his pants down.
Is the MC a chump? Again, not exactly(but also yes). The MC get seduced, worked up into a state of sexual frenzy. Then he gets pushed away and shamed for being aroused. At this point the woman Either his step mother or step sister will gas light him and claim that he was not being seduced, but imagined the whole thing.
I'm serious, That is the meat and potatoes of this book. 1.seduced 2.aroused 3.rejected 4.shamed 5.gas lit. This happens over and over.
That would be creepy enough all by it self, even without the incest element but here is the crux of the matter. The MC actually gets off on shame. He says so in those exact words half a dozen times.
So here is the deal. -If he gets off from humiliation, and especially sexual humiliation from a direct female family member, than this guy is a king boss champion winner.

Now, I do not want to kink shame your shame kink. (except, uh wouldn't that get you off?) God knows if that's what gets your rocks off it must be vanishing rare to find material that presses those buttons. But the rest of you out there might want to be fore warned. What lurks under the blankets in this book might not be to your taste. You might want to find some straight vanilla incest porn instead of this creepy deviant incest porn.

This is the first harem fantasy fiction that I have read from a female author. I am just making that assumption because of the name and the writing style. There is definitely a difference between the writing style in this book as compared to all the others I have read from this genre. The biggest difference I think is the pacing. Most of the other books in this genre get to the sex pretty quickly and sometimes it comes from out of nowhere. That didn't happen in this book. This book was mostly foreplay. Mostly teasing about what could happen and what it would mean if it did happen. This worked pretty well for me in the first half of the book but got kind of old in the last half of the book.

The story follows Damon Al-Kendras, a 22 year old swordsman who works as entertainer with mock duels and battles. His father passed away a long time ago and he grew up as an orphan in a house with 2 girls and a house mother. His father died leaving a lot of debt which Damon needs to pay back. The people he owes money to have found out where his foster mother lives and have threatened her. He needs to go back home to make sure she is safe. When he gets home he also meets both his foster sisters again. One has become prim and proper and is a lady in waiting to a princess and another is sort of a mystic warrior. There is a lot of sexual tension in this family.

The overall story was lacking. The foster mother was happy Damon came home because she needed his help along with his foster sisters. She never said with what. Then she tells him to leave because it will be safer for him, and then comes and gets him in the end. The world building wasn't great and neither was the explanation about magic.

Took a chance on this one and was pleasantly surprised. Action/sex ratio could have been better (imo), but it wasn't bad. I'm not sure I like the MC, as he straddles the line between being assertive and too pushy regarding sex, but part of that I think is external magical influence so I can cut him some slack.

I do have some advice for him that he could have used before: never do an enemy a small injury. Insufficient data on the other holders of his late father's debt, but based on what we've seen I suspect he'd be better off just killing them all if they're going to threaten his loved ones.

Mixed feelings

Mixed feelings is the best that I can describe this book. I enjoy books and stories that have a mystery plot, but not a book that is just a complete mystery. From the start I'm led to believe that the MC is an exceptional swordsman/"gladiator", but he is anything but that. He loses the first actual fight in the book, and it is the first, because the other first fight that gives his "exceptional" swordsmanship is choreographed with him as the victor. I don't mind the taboo stuff but the MC flopping between being the victim and the aggressor is confusing. I would also like alittle more back story on the "Gods" and the Crests. I gave this book and story a shot, enjoyed the erotica to an extent and some of the plot, but was confused and at times annoyed. I'm gonna have to pass on continuing this series.

Pretty poor offering

Considered giving this three stars as it's not awful. The main drawbacks are a ponderous uninteresting story and a main character whose chief skill (swordfighting) isn't good enough to win him any fights. When the encounter does go his way it's is due to intervention by other characters. I didn't manage to finish, but did give it until over 90% read. The justification/motivation for the main characters to go home, stay a few days and then return to where they came from was pretty lame. If you're not paying for this then try it maybe it's just not to my taste. If you're considering paying hard earned cash don't bother.

So... The story isn't bad but I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of story it's supposed to be. It seems like it's all about some guys awkward Mommy issues and the blue balls that accompany it.

I heard the series was good though so I'm gonna push forward though if the whole book is just the MC awkwardly rubbing against his Sisters and Mother every chance he gets, then simultaneously feeling guilty about it, then I'm not gonna make it to 3.

Dude needs bend his adoptive Mother over and tell her he's the Daddy then give her ass a slap. That or stop being a pervert, but don't do half of both.

MC is a beta simp

I know it's a smut novel, but c'mon. Guys like the MC don't win at anything, and they certainly don't become gladiators or fighters. Using beta types as main characters is so cringe. Those types don't take risk, and don't attract women, it just doesn't make sense. I know it's intended as self insert fantasy for boring people... I just wish it wasn't a trend.

Third of the way in and still waiting for a story.

There is nothing here to keep my interest. This is relying on an incestuous relationship to keep a reader on the hook and nothing else. ALL books need a good story, else what is the point.

Hard to finish

The mc is the weakest chsracter of every other peron in the book. He gets beat up and injured repeatedly. Too much relationship tension.

So bad. The MC just keeps getting his ass kicked. And the whole time everyone brags about what a master swordsman he is.....

Incredible and Imaginative

I wasn’t exactly sure as to what this book might entail by its title but now I’m quite sure I made the right decision to read more. The book offered a mix of adventure, emotions, and sexual dilemmas all wrapped with an interesting storyline that takes place in a medieval fantasy period. The author has set the stage for what I hope will be a continuing series. The well established premise introduced in this first offering has my mind wondering what will come of Devon, his two childhood friends and his mysterious foster Mother as they try to wind their separate ways yet seem to converge when least expected and most needed. I highly recommend this book. It’s easy to read and flows nicely.

An old man I used to chat with told me earnestly that a book HAD to have plenty of action, sex and interesting characters. My reply to the old coot (he was 10 years older than I am now, I was 15); noted I expected a plot that made some sense and reasonable vocabulary. We shared a good laugh.
This book meets all of the above criteria. I like the characters, the world view is interesting, plenty of action and the sex...is realistic.
This is a VERY promising author, one of the very few new ones I admit I will follow and read everything she have to offer.
Obviously NOT for anyone who has not reached puberty.

Very well written taboo erotica

One of the best taboo erotica i'v read.
Slow bulid-up is really antagonizing and exciting at the same time. Yeah it' gets to the base fairly quickly but there are romance, intimacy and acknowledgement of love brewing. Affections and reasons of hold-ups are well set. Buyable. Very well can put my feelings in it.
And it also well sets up the suspense of background story. Whether it will be good fantasy story or not I don't know yet but the start is good.
I didn't expect this depth of depiction of feelings and emotions of characters from a male protagonist harem fiction. Happily surprised. Keep up the good work, writer!

Damon, a gladiator, owes his deceased father’s gambling debts and is threatened. Not only himself, but his aesta Malon and adopted sisters Vel and Ria. He returns home to defend them but must overcome many tribulations on the way and once arrived. He renews his acquaintance with Vel and Ria, and Malon. They are threatened and fight back with mixed results. There is constant relationship tension with one virile man and three luscious women that simmers and often boils over. It’s an engaging, captivating story full of eroticism, guilt, and unbridled lust, and will continue for eleven more books (Hooray!).

A story about a "gladiator" who is said to be one of the best, but loses every fight he gets into. He literally loses every single one, even against a single boar in the forest, while armed with a spear. He is saved countless times by people around him with no fighting experience. I think he should have stayed a farmer. The only fun part is "forbidden" romance, which isn't at all forbidden. Neither his adoptive mother or sisters are related by blood. The character constantly feels guilt over nothing and I just want to pound his head on something hard

Secrets and more secrets

Fantasy harem adult situations
MC Damon is a gladiator- trained swordsman, and an orphan raised with two other orphans - the blonde, literate Velamar; the dark-haired, clanless Remenai (elf) spellblood (mage); all cared for by the red-headed sorceress Malon. All three women love Damon, and even when they indulge in their desires (even partway), they dance around their feelings. Damon is skilled, but hot-headed. And each woman keeps their secrets leading worsening the overall situation. Curious where this will go, so buying book 2.

Entertaining and Fun

It isn't a masterpiece but does exactly what I want ; entertain!

There is a good foundation here for a good world and storyline. The intimacy events could decrease by 50% and still be a great mix and allow for more time & pages to move the story where the author wants!

Overall, it's a fun and light read book that keeps you entertained! Look forward to additional books to continue this world and storyline!!

Is It Taboo?

Damon, a theatrical gladiator, has a lot of trouble on his mind. The girls he grew up with are full grown beautiful women. He is attracted to them in a way that is not brotherly love. Even though they are not related by blood, he has qualms about this attraction. His deceased Father's debts plague him as unsavory characters try to collect them from him. I like the action, humor, and love/romance. I look forward to the next book.

Interesting, unconventional

This is a book that definitely feels like it toes the line of taboo more often than not. The author had such a way of writing this that it triggered the same shameful yet erotic reactions that the characters were experiencing. Not only were the adult bits written very well but the action wasn't lacking at all. There did seem to be some pacing issues but overall I am very much looking forward to the next installment.

Holy moly.

I enjoyed reading this book. I had an idea of what to expect before I started reading, but this was so much more. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. I imagine that their relationships only grow more complicated as the story progresses. I look forward to seeing where the story goes next. If you're interested in something on the wild side then check this series out.

Fun, well written fantasy

If you enjoy well written fantasy mixed in with your erotica I highly recommend this book. Yes it is smut but as a fan of fantasy fiction the fantasy elements were just as enjoyable as the sexy ones. This book isn’t cheap prose and choppy sex scenes, it’s interesting magic and world building and slow built sexual tension that pays off and goes together perfectly.

Started off pretty good but seems to get bogged down in the details. Trying to draw out the sexual tension in the relationships, but has become unrealistically extended. The premise of the story has been interesting but The authors to be drawing everything out Creating a story that Becomes frustrating to read.

I had this book for a while now, and didn't touch it.
I guess what I read in the blurb is true.

Nothing fantastical happened as yet. This was "meh".

Don't think I will continue with the series. The story is just there to further the harem, instead of the harem being there to further the story.

I read Castle Town first and really loved it except for the last couple entries, but this is even better I think.

Anya Merchant is a master of slow-burn/tension, and though you might call it formulaic if you were being less than charitable, she definitely has a style and it really works for me.

Like a Roman fantasy

This was an interesting story with some unique world building. A lot of great fantasy elements. Only issue was the passage of time during the story is fairly vague. Otherwise a great read, looking forward to the next one!

Really good.

In my opinion this book is really good. I wished it was longer, good characters and story that kept me reading. The intimacy was also done well. I enjoyed the read, looking forward to book 2.

By far

One of the best series starts I have found this year. Properly steamy, brutal where it needed to be, and very human.

Also, first time I have read something from this author. Let's see what else we have....

TTFN!
