USA Today best-selling author Morgana Best survived a childhood of deadly spiders and venomous snakes in the Australian outback. Morgana Best writes cozy mysteries and enjoys thinking of delightful new ways to murder her victims.
The second book in this series is as entertaining as the first.
Amelia Spelled is the worst person to have inherited a cake shop since she is totally unable to cook anything without burning it or, worse, setting fire to the surroundings. Luckily, she has her assistant, Thyme, who can bake as many perfect cakes as you could wish for.
As well as the shop there is a sentient house which I love. When a dead body is found on the porch there is even a moment when the house is a suspect! After that Amelia herself is the main suspect so she sets out to clear her name along with Thyme's help.
Lots of fun, two beautiful cats, and a promise of even greater magic for Amelia, even if she never learns to cook. I will be continuing with this series.
Amelia Spelled was still unable to cook, so it was fortunate that the cake shop she'd inherited from her aunt - along with the house - came with her now good friend Thyme. Thyme was an excellent cook, with cakes, cupcakes and the like turning out to perfection. Amelia only succeeded in setting the oven on fire.
When Amelia discovered a dead body on her front verandah, she was horrified. The police were suspicious of a new resident in town, Dianne but once they'd cleared her, Amelia became a suspect. Who was sending photos to the police with her and the victim together? Amelia had never met him before. Could she discover the culprit before she was jailed for murder?
Dizzy Spells is the 2nd in The Kitchen Witch series by Aussie author Morgana Best and it was fun and entertaining. There were several suspects, some witchy spells and two adorable cats (Amelia's familiars). But the best character of all is Amelia's house! Recommended.
In this second novel, new Witch, Amelia Spelled is still learning to bake a cake, and not succeeding at it. Through various fires etc., her patient employee and friend, fellow witch, Thyme continues to try and teach her. After all, Amelia does own the Cake shop.
To add to the stress, there is a new 'psychic' in town, Dianne, and she is very mixed up. She gives Amelia a warning and then the poor girl, Amelia that is, arrives home to find a dead man on her porch. Who? What? and Why?
The plot thickens as the police in Bayberry Creek, Australia begin to look at Amelia as a suspect in the death. Someone is setting her up. And, why is Alder Vervain so interested in her and also investigating her for some unknown client?
With the protection of her house, her cats, Willow and Hawthorne, and the love of her new 'witchy' friends, Amelia will prevail.
This is a quick read, fun and entertaining. You do wonder the 'why?' of this murder mystery. It was fun to see the house' personality change. What am I talking about? Be sure to read volume one for the answers. Enjoy.
I am loving this cosy mystery, any cosy witch mystery I jump on straight away. I am sad about the love interest though, he seemed like such a decent guy.
Amelia and Thyme are in town doing some shopping to celebrate Amelia's latest attempt at baking. One of the new stores in town is Madam Dianne's Shop of Mystery. Madam Dianne claims to be a psychic. even if a few of her visions and predictions prove to be slightly incorrect. When Amelia returns home, she finds a corpse on her front porch.
The corpse is that of Thomas Hale, a real estate salesman from a nearby town. Dianne admits to the police, Detectives Harrison and Sassafras of the Homicide Squad, that she had met the victim once when she hired him to see about buying a house. The house she was interested in is Amelia's, but Amelia had never met the man. When Dianne insists that the police consider her the prime suspect, Amelia says she will try to help. Meanwhile, it becomes evident that somebody is trying to frame Amelia for the murder. To complicate matters even more, Alder Vervain, whose ancestors were notorious witch hunters, is following Amelia everywhere she goes.
Who killed Thomas Hale? Why was he killed? Who is trying to frame Amelia and why? Can Amelia and her friends sort things out and identify the killer?
The story is well written with plenty of humor and twists and leaves you looking forward to more books in the series.
Book 2 of this fun series. Of course there is a murder but Amelia and her new friends start investigating especially as the body appears on her porch. They have lots of suspects to try and narrow down just who was the murderer. Highly recommend this book.
What a load of tosh! Fluffy nonsense. Was it actually a children’s book? No, that’s unfair to children’s authors. Must are greater care in impulse buying from bookbub.
Dizzy Spells is book two of the Kitchen Witch series by Morgana Best. Amelia is worried her spells are improving, but she is still having problems with her baking, and she needs to improve to save her business. However, this was soon forgotten when the body was dropped on her doorstep, and her friend became the prime suspect. Amelia decided to investigate to clear her friend and find the killer. The readers of Dizzy Spells will continue to follow Amelia to discover what happens.
Dizzy Spells is a lovely, cozy mystery, and I engaged with the story from the first page and continued to the end. I love Morgana Best's portrayal of her characters and how they interact with each other throughout this book. Dizzy Spells is well-written and researched by Morgana Best. I like Morgana Best's description of Dizzy Spells' settings, which completed the book's plot.
I love Amelia and her friends. Amelia is learning to accept her magic and trying to learn to bake without causing a fire but can't quite get the hang of it. A new psychic in town is throwing things a bit off balance, but that's nothing compared to Amelia finding a dead body on her front porch. Once again, it's up to Amelia and her friends to find the murderer. Since it's determined that he died of an overdose of insulin, it would seem that narrowing the list of suspects would be easier, but nothing is ever easy for Amelia and her friends.
Book 2 in the Kitchen Witch series is just as good as book 1. I’m hooked.
Although Amelia is adjusting to being a witch, her baking skills have not improved. When a man is found murdered on her front porch, Amelia and her friends use a little magic to determine who done it.
Her first crush in town turns out to be a lemon and her house agrees as it throws him out but one person who seems to be looking out for her is hated by her friends. And her new physic friend may not be all she claims to be.
Building on the characters from Book 1, this is an enjoyable read! You learn more about Craig (possible boyfriend material) and Alden (possible witch hunter or boyfriend). I started to wish I lived in the magical House! Oh-and there's another dead body, 2 detectives and another snippet of news about Amelia's hereditary gifts. I'm enjoying getting to know the characters as I settle in for a binge reading of this series!
Didn't love this one quite as much as the first, but it was still enjoyable. The cast of characters is fun, and the dark and mysterious Alder Vervain is someone I'm looking forward to seeing more of.
i just love this series. the characters are so engaging. amelia's friends are so positive and supportive. she needs it as she gets into the most awful situations.
as the series progresses, we gain more individuality and insight into ruprecht, camino, thyme and the others. we also start to gain more characters, all with their own quirks and attitudes.
This was a fun and humorous adventure in Australia. Amelia’s baking has not improved, but she is surrounded by a good group of friends that help her out of some complicated situations, including another dead body. At least this time her baking doesn’t seem to be to blame. It was a bit disjointed, but still enjoyable. I’m curious to see how the news from Adler will impact the next book in the series.
Hilarious, I laughed so hard reading this book! Madame Dianne is truly something and the mail lady too, I enjoyed this mystery very much. Although I knew quite early who was the culprit, it was enjoyable to see Miss Spelled solve the case once again with her special way. I like her friends very much and can't wait to read more about her, them and whatever will happen next!
4/5 stars for this Cozy Mystery! Once again, don't be fooled by this cover, this is such a great series! I highly recommend The Kitchen Witch Series for any fans of cozy mysteries, with a bit of magical realism thrown in. I love the characters and the story! The audio is great! These should totally be turned into Hallmark Movies....hmm, wonder who I should contact about that....
Quirky Cozy Mystery Amelia is still trying to learn the art of baking with limited success. Her luck is not all that great either when a body is found on the front porch of her quirky home. A crazy postal delivery person adds to the already complicated murder situation. Alder reveals some interesting information to Amelia. A great story to keep the series flowing.
I love everything about this book, it keeps you guessing at every turn and my mouth water for some cupcakes from the cake shop. I am intrigued by the witches and spells and insight to herbal uses . It's a must read with plot twist and colorful charchters
No, a baker she is not! Amelia tries and tries, but fails every time… There’s so much humour in this book, and there’s lots of quirkiness! It was entertaining, and the mystery kept me guessing. Twists and turns made this an enjoyable, surprising read.
Who wouldn't want to have their own magical home? Although all the characters are wonderful my well written, great storyline, and a magical home that is a delightful character in its own. There are alot of cupcakes and cakes in this book. Read and enjoy!
I really enjoyed this book! Amelia and her friends are amazing! Someone comes to town to make trouble but they persevere and justice is served. Someone else is not who he seems to be, but all is well. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I get really annoyed when there are grammatical errors and words missing from sentences..at least a dozen words were missing from sentences throughout the story. It's really frustrating. Was there no proofreading? It feels really rushed compared to the first book. Disappointed.
So glad I found this series! I love each twist and turn. The main characters are funny, smart, and quirky. I will be reading the next one in this series.
I like this book. She is a great author!! Easy , quirky read!! For anyone who loves a good laugh , a little mystery and paranormal activities.. this is a good series
