When Violet calls Cassie over to investigate a murder in Mayfair, Cassie figures it's going to be a pretty easy solve, especially when they immediately hone in on a main suspect. But things get a lot more complicated when it turns out the suspect has an airtight alibi.
Meanwhile, things at home are going to get more hectic for Cassie when Jake has a brand new surprise to show her. And why do the nightmares that started when Cassie was officially registered as a doctor refuse to go away?
Between everything going on at home and inside her head, will Cassie be able to help Violet solve the case, or is it all going to be too much for her?
The Cassie Coburn mysteries are a cozy mystery series featuring a Sherlock-holmes style sleuth. If you want a light, fun, modern mystery featuring a San Francisco girl totally out of her element in London, and a crazy French woman who happens to be very good at noticing things, then this is the series for you.
Samantha Silver lives in British Columbia, Canada, along with her husband and seventeen-year-old dog named Terra.
When she's not writing cozy mysteries, Samantha loves travelling (she's most recently been to Egypt, Jordan and Florida) skiing, eating Dairy Queen, and complaining about how hard running is.

This should be a 3.5 because of the animals in the story. I did not like the resolution of the mystery as I couldn't guess the outcome and villain of the piece. The story again involves Cassie and Violet who solve a murder that baffles the police. There was a lot of plotting by the murderer and I was again fooled when the killer got unveiled. I liked the animal interest in this story an was happy to read about them as a subplot or just for change of pace. I enjoy the whole series- the fact that there is a female detective who can rival S Holmes for reading a customer, a scene or putting facts together is a plus in my book.
This is my least favorite of the series so far as it didn’t keep my interest as well as the earlier books. It was fine just not up to par. Much of the book dealt with the adopted dog. As long as it was on dogs, my mind kept wandering to the corgi owned by one of the suspects but ignored but for that fact. Speaking of ignored, the poor cat, Biscuit, adopted in an earlier book was regularly walked. No more. Poor Biscuit. If the next book is no better than this one I’ll probably give up on the series.
This book was just okay. Why is Cassie troubling over a chosen specialty? Didn’t she decide in the last book to do emergency medicine? Also, when did she finish her degree? Suddenly she is a doctor without going to school to achieve her final credits? And why is she having to do surgery on Violet in every story? This book seemed rushed and recycled from previous storylines. I did enjoy the side quest of the foster dog, and liked the addition of a therapist to Cassie’s life. Other than that this book was a dud.

When I first started reading the Western Woods series I bought a few of the other series as well. I was the first book in the Cassie series on Amazon s daily deals and thought why not. I have been let down!!! The mystery and humor that makes him this series is what makes me read it in one sitting!! I'm hoping that I don't really have to wait a whole year for the next book but I will!! And just reread the series again!!!
Violet invites Cassie to join her in what should be a simple case as Cassie is going through some things and needs the distraction. A Roman history teacher has been murdered and there are not too many suspects. But the case becomes more interesting than either one thought ending in Violet getting seriously injured, and the new Dr. Cassie Coburn has to call on her medical knowledge to save her friend's life.
I don’t agree with previous posters, I found this book delightful! The writer took a new way to spin us and I am here for it. Incorporating the animals was heartwarming and I enjoy that the writer gives us a big mystery and a mini mystery in the mix. I just started her books in January 2025, and it’s only February 2025 and I am done with book 7!!! She is a fabulous writer and I am enjoying her! I look forward to reading all of her books!
Loved these books. They are fast reads and you can’t wait to find the next book. I’d recommend starting on the first book to make better sense of the way these two women connect. It’s nice when you read about two very different types become fast friends and over come differences.
Very good entry into the series. Cassie learns some things about herself and together with Violet, they track down the murderer of an esteemed academic. I enjoyed the twists and turns and look forward to the next in the series.
This is an amazing series! I aspire to be Mrs. Michaels in my later years! I hope that Theresa will become a regular character and that Cassie and Jake will adopt Sequoia. Definitely looking forward to the next one!
The dynamic between Cassie and Violet is fun to see develop. I like that Cassie is finding her niche in medicine and her romantic life is moving along.
I love this series. The main reason for this is that most cozy series by book 7, have established the main character and her main man (usually the police detective in a small town) as the crime solvers. This series is about Cassie and Violet. Period. It's 2 incredibly smart women working together and solving crimes. It's about THEIR friendship. The man in Cassie's life is a side part of the story even in books where he's actually appeared or been helpful to the plot. The relationship isn't the focus and it is refreshing to see.
