OHKUBO Atsushi

Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.

Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.

The plot goes on and I got no beef with that but here Okubo shows- again I’d say- his somewhat childish take of character’s personalities. The two Hajima minions are really caricatural and hence totally uninteresting.

4/5 Stars (%76/100)

Licht "delivers" Shinra to Haijima Industries which apparently has ties to the Church and is more than it shows. Around this time we also learn that Nataku, one of the boys Rekka gave a bug, became the 6th pillar. Thus, the whole volume revolves around retrieving Nataku. We have Haijima, the 8th, and also Ashen Knights. The Ashen Reaper Kurono is introduced and he is super interesting in my opinion. It is also said that he is as strong as Benimaru, the man who is regarded as the strongest. I think it was a good chapter overall.

Potentially the next pillar looks like it may come to Fire Company 8…or at least I hope so. With Nataku calling out to Shinra for help, it may potentially be the case that unlike Inca, Nataku will willingly join the hero’s side. What remains to be seen, however, is if the Rekka Hoshimiya obsession he has is going to affect him on some level to permanently keep him out of commission and operating as some kid they have to protect. I actually do hope he joins the main duo of Arthur and Shinra as he does have some potential (that is of course until we see what Nataku’s awakened abilities are).

The other part of the volume felt a little bit messy. Nataku seemingly was this teddie bear of sorts that was passed from person to person as the battle royale of sorts was underway. What the battle did indicate was that the pillars working under the evangelist aren’t necessarily connected with Hajima as everyone suspected. If they were, why were they fighting for possession of Nataku, and further why would characters suggest teaming up to go against familiar baddies?

Of course it could all just be really messy writing, but I don’t want to write it off as that at this point in time.

Otherwise excellent volume and we got or female character fight, it would have been interesting of course if it was main protagonist female version a male protagonist instead of the genre’s usual leaning toward the girl power fight, though we can only hope for a change in the future.

Overall great volume.

I hate Huamea and Inca. Of all the 3rd gen powers, I find theirs particularly unbelievable, and now we’ve added Ritsu so I have another one to hate. I’m not sure yet if Inca was brainwashed or if she’s just an idiot going along with the evangelist, but I guess she’s no longer struggling against being told what to do. Too bad Maki didn’t get to kick Arrow’s ass any further.

I did wonder what happened to the kid - I guess Company 1 just handed him over for experiments and everyone forgot about him. Looks like Haijima is full of trash people, so hopefully Company 8 cleans house a bit. Too bad Rekka traumatized the kid so badly that he sees him everywhere.

I don’t see the point in the evangelist trying to collect all the pillars in such an obvious way. She hasn’t really gone after Shinra, so why go all out to collect the new ones?

Very cool volume. Kurono is introduced as a character on par with Benimaru as the strongest, and his powers are fascinating. The entire volume centers around retrieving Nataku, the newly awakened Sixth Pillar from one of Rekku’s bugs, which has Haijima, Company 8, and the Evangelist’s white knights trying to snag him. I wanna say the best parts of this volume are with Kurono for how twisted he is. Overall decent entry and I am again excited for the next one.

Read as part of Omnibus Vol 6:
Not bad, probably 4 stars. But there is way to much of this guy who abuses children and likes it. The guy who looks to fight the weakest person first. If he is going to do that he needs to have stronger teammates. Then there is the whole using a child as a football in a game (Rugby?) tossing him in the air and all is not cool.

Otherwise, plot advances and another fight begins.

So now Haijima and Company 8 are teaming up against the Evangelist....? Even though Haijima works for them? That's strange but okay.....get Nataku back! Inca needed a guardian as twisted as her, I guess! Wow!

Great as always.
It's funny & terrifying how he uses PTSD to show the horror of being in some real deep shit.
Sometimes, surviving a horror can be worse than death.
PTSD is some real deep shit and even if I have my owb struggle, loved to see it portraited like this

I love getting more of Licht’s pov, he’s a really interesting character he claims to have no side but has clearly become very emotionally attached to the 8th company. I also love watching Vulcan get to attack Haijima.

Child abuse, some creep and three faction fight. Kind of messy, but everything is moving forward and got to see Archer from Evangelists again, it has been a while.

Przeszłość jeszcze bardziej motywuje go do przerwania trwających tam prac.

Company 8 investigates reports of child abuse at the Haijima laboratory. The reports are correct as we meet a character who refers to himself as Death and openly admits to enjoying beating up kids. His fire powers seem to be kind of dumb at first but turns out they're stronger than they look.

But of course, nothing can go off without a hitch in this series so we have some uninvited guests at this party who are guaranteed to be a thorn in the side.

This series has 34 volumes.

This volume was action-packed.

Very entertaining and kinda messy at a time but it was very funny. Love the basketball references, they were great. Incredible figh scenes and display of habilities. It seems the new characters is going berserk in the next volume, i'm really intrigued.

Haijima seems to be doing all kinds of wrong but we don't see all of it. I want to know more about them.
